guts

It is interesting when you get a fresh perspective of yourself from a new acquaintance. Even at this reasonably accomplished age, I am still able to find myself anew.

Recently, I have been fortunate to gain the friendship of an interesting character. A smart, quick-witted, young “old chap” of a guy whose creativity and open-minded ideals speak volumes for his generation. At his age I was not nearly as wise, worldly, cultured, present, or relevant as he is. Even now his intellect far exceeds my own, and his ability to perceive others astounds me. He is very deliberate with his words, often taking what seems to me to be far too long to respond to my often off-kilter banter. But always following his reflection, he delivers an astute, provocative discourse on whatever topic I had mindlessly rambled into. Seriously, the guy can talk me under the table…and that is saying something.

And I must admit he is a bit off, as well. Regardless, or perhaps in spite of those facts, I find him very interesting.

As it goes with most new friendships there is the crush period. The time where everything about the new friend is fascinating and we often try to find a bit of ourselves in our new pal. And so my new friend has attempted to find fascination in me, and has asked for the privilege (his term, not mine) of reading some of my writing. I initially waved him off, figured he would find what he wanted or give up. But, after the third very polite request, I obliged.

It is strange; I can write for an unknown audience without fear. I can put it out there for the world to read, all of it…without a second thought. Yet when I directly hand over a few poems to my new friend, I am paralyzed.

As I said, my new friend is very perceptive. So, when I stuffed a few of my poems in his hand and continued on about the weather, he immediately detected my insecurity. He saw in my rushed speech and downcast eyes that I was nervous. And while I waited for him to speak, to interrupt my prattle, I reeled. He placed the pages face down on the table, then said “Ah yes, I see I was correct. You are an exhibitionist and shy, both.”

Which really put me to thought…what purpose am I serving with these characteristics, if characteristics do in fact serve us?

I suppose that those opposing characteristics, that in my case are so apparently extreme, benefit each other. I can only imagine that my unchecked exhibitionism would undoubtedly lead me to my depraved end, and that my need to slap the world in the face keeps me from becoming a total shut-in.

p.s. what you got in you; what it takes.

I think it should be springing, damn it.

It must be close they were testing the tornado sirens today.

Ive been singing it for the past hour, Elena. Took it as a sign.

Its a sign to run out and buy the White Album. ;)

elena said...

Oh I would love a muffin, Ergo. Thanks so much

ergoproxy said...

They do warn you they are testing don't they, it'd be a hell of a shock otherwise.

Beatles anon said...

N0thing signals spring like the annual hooting of the tornado sirens.

Thank you, Ergo, a muffin would be lovely.

Too late, anon, Ive already got it. ;)

elena said...

Actually they test the first Wed of every month but for some reason they didn't last Wed. It was sorta shocking at first because I had the radio on and they did it as they would if it was real, listing all the counties under the warning, then at the end they said it had been a test. I was not pleased.

elena said...

Me too Anon. I have every Beatles LP. Got records and CD's. Love the albums.

Beatles anon said...

Sounds scary, Elena, that "testing" on the radio.

I have several Beatles albums, both on vinyl and on *gasp* cassette. No CDs yet.

elena said...

Well I understand testing is a great thing but damn it was almost like suddenly getting a pop quiz.

Especially since today was rainy. For a few minutes I really thought we were under a warning.

I do know they are forcasting we will have a very stormy Spring. I kinda think we will too. Soon it will be time to get the dungeon ready with candles and such.

Beatles anon said...

Sorry I have to go so soon, but its an early day tomorrow. Goodnight ladies, maybe this weekend we can all get some rest. :)

ergoproxy said...

Goodnight anon, hope you sleep well.

I only have the CD of Beatles #1's, all the other ones were my Dad's so they are with him. He saw them when they toured Australia too.
The album I would really like to get is Sgt Peppers, I remember my Aunt had the piano music book of it so I could sing along with it all. as a kid.

elena said...

Bye Beatles anon

Glad you stopped by, take care.

elena said...

Oh Ergo you should have all the Beatles CD's. There are so many great songs esp on The White Album.

ergoproxy said...

I just don't have the copies myself, I do have some cassettes I dubbed from the albums, but they are all pretty much dead now. I must look into it.

elena said...

You must, you must, Ergo

I think I shall play some Beatles music right now. LOL

toujours said...

there was a time when the beatles were almost the only thing i listened to. i guess that's why i'm a little gun-shy about listening to them these days, but they wrote extremely good songs, no question about it.

i have to say i do not like tornado sirens, indeed i do not. we don't have naything like that back in seattle, so the first time i heard them here? i would've freaked, if i hadn't been at the shop and trying to keep a calm face for the customers. lol

how are you guys doing, aside from tired and baking? :)

ergoproxy said...

I can't it's afternoon kids tv time lol

elena said...

Hey TJ

Right now I'm on a hunt for Mr E's glasses he had to go to work without them because they are nowhere to be found.

ergoproxy said...

HI TJ! Oh I imagine it would scare the hell out of me too, even if I expected it. At a weekend to celebrate VP day (and of war in the Pacific) they had an airshoww in Townsville and fireworks, but before they turned all the city lights off and had searchlights at the old gun installations around the town and had air raid sirens going off, I tell you it sent chills down your spine, you just expected to hear the whine of Spitfire engines any second!!

...and apart from baking I cleaned and watched gossip shows and Bridezilla's on Dr Phil lol

ergoproxy said...

^ end of War in the Pacific ( WWII )

toujours said...

elena, put a little dish of milk down by the back door, and then go to the last room you remember the glasses being and politely explain why you need them back.

who knows? it might work. :)

oh man, ergo, talk about setting the mood! i can easily imagine how that would've made you feel like you had been taken back in time. very clever, very effective display!

ergoproxy said...

Asking is worth a try TJ!

elena said...

TJ I would try that but I'm pretty sure the cats would love the idea, drink the milk and still there would be no glasses.

toujours said...

well, the milk is just a nicety, but even just asking usually works. :)

elena said...

Okay to be honest I've already asked the ghost. Good thing I'm here alone cause I'm pretty sure it looked strange talking to an empty room. But so far no glasses.

ergoproxy said...

That's ok elena, we wont tell anyone

elena said...

Oh honestly it probably wouldn't surprise anyone. LOL

toujours said...

that makes sense. :)

if i could've remembered it, i would've suggested the prayer to st. anthony. i lost my contacts once at my in-law's, and after we looked everywhere to no avail, my ex's mom said that prayer, we looked again, and voila!.

even catholic magic is magic. :)

toujours said...

the asking the ghost makes sense, not the surprise being no surprise! i'm slow tonight, no offense intended.

ergoproxy said...

I once found a ring weeks after I'd lost it when I was dating DH, I'd stayed at the farm and we'd looked everywhere, everyone helped but I gave it up for gone, then weeks later I got into bed and felt something, it had ended up inside the mattress cover right down the bottom!

elena said...

It's okay TJ

You know I'm crazy! LOL

toujours said...

that's where you think it had ended up, ergo...but who knows who was playing with up until that point? shiny things are difficult to resist. ;)

if you're crazy elena, then i guess i must be next in line for the straitjacket! lol

mayo,

daffodils are up, and so is what is apparently the other sign of spring for the area -- thunder storms. watched a doozy of one last night. couldn't sleep through it so i just stood at the window instead, watching while half-afraid and half-excited, reflexively squeezing my eyes shut at the bolts overhead like flares, and wondering if the thunder that rolled and rolled and rolled through the sky without stopping might not actually be a train (or even an earthquake, it had that sound).

and the other night, i was up late reading, and when i took my customary peek out the window before jumping into bed, i saw a glow low on the south-eastern horizon, an orange ember burning through the night clouds...i couldn't figure it out for a long moment and then realized it was the waning moon, rising. spooky, though.

maybe i shouldn't be looking out the windows at night, hmm? maybe i should just be a good girl and close my eyes and pull the covers up.

but i kind of like the spooky night, so watcha gonna do.

hey mayo, take care, be safe, be strong.

good night, and sweet dreams.

elena said...

Wow what a beautiful picture Good Morning Anon. Thanks

Uh moaning??? Really? I can't see a speck of moaning in what I said. The fact that you do seems kinda strange. Oh well, whatever. Have yourself a nice day anon.

No wait, I gotta say this - I have made some really great friends here and I've made that clear so many times. And yeah I include Mayo in that. He's just a weird, seldom seen friend but he's why I have all the great friends cause this is his place. I'm sure I would never have met these people if it wasn't for him. So yeah, that's how I feel. If you have a problem with that I think maybe you should ask yourself why. Not trying to start an arguement with you. Just wondering why you think like you do. Anyway, I really do hope you have a nice day.

Mayo,

What the fuck's up, fucker? That much, huh? Well, let's see, I haven't read your post in a few months. Should I reread and give you my thoughts? Nah, the moment has passed, and I really have nothing new to spew.

What have I been doing? Oh that's so nice of you to ask. Enjoying myself. Been to lots of shows, in fact, I'm going to one tonight. Yeah, it's Marty Stuart. You probably don't know him even though I tried to introduce you way back when. It's gonna be super duper amazing.

Mayonaise Kills--yeah it sure does/did...whatever. Don't know what you mean. I love The Kills though, and The Killers, and American Psycho. You, Patrick Bateman, fucker you.

blah blah blah...so yeah

I'm gonna just hang here for a bit, and kick the dust off this blog.

Hi Welshie! Hey Solly-chan!

Soooo Solly. I don't know why I'm broaching this here except that it JUST hit me.

So like, umm. 30 Seconds To Mars is playing a show out here in April. April just happens to be my break from school. So like, you know, if'n you and Principessa were serious about coming up for a few days? Maybe, sort of, a 30 show would be a decent enough excuse to get us all together.

If you wanna, I mean.

And if there are tix left. O_O

kapunua said...

BUT! I guess that's kind of huge. No worries. We can talk about it on Facebag if it's at all possible. ^_^

sdock10 said...

Jules/Welshie/Anons/Mayo/SS, have you watched Burn After Reading? I'm sort of in love with that movie.

Kapunua said...

I agree about EOTC, I saw them a few times and they were pretty great. Also, they are homeboys. ^_^ Must be something in the water out here.

So what you all don' today? Me, I am cleaning fish tanks. I got some lovelylovely fish and taking care of them makes me weirdly happy.

Except, my beautiful orange swordtail named Kenshin died this morning. :( Ruined my whole day.

sdock10 said...

Jules, I'll have to run it by Smoke and see. That sure would be fun.

Welshie, I made a very good sad person. I don't even know why I was so damn sad and lost all the time. I guess it was just the easy/comfortable thing to be at the time. I thought it was all mine to be and that it set me apart and that my pain was somehow different, WHAT A LOAD OF HORSESHIT! Pain/sadness/melancholy is not something you wear like a badge of honor. You stop being sad when you realize that you don't have a fucking thing to be sad about, really.

sdock10 said...

I'm sorry about you fish, Jules. That sucks. Fish are beautiful but very hard to take care of.

I'm supposed to be getting ready for Marty Stuart right now. We're driving to Augusta (like 3 hours away). SUCK!

kapunua said...

Thank you, Solly-chan. It's funny, how fish can come to mean so much. Their little personalities and all.

Solly, I am so damn glad that you're not so blue anymore. Having known you for a few years, I can see how much you've changed. But, you've always been a beautiful, lovely person.

Welshie said...

Kapunua I didn't see you there. How are you? Sorry about your fish:(
Oh and how's your mum? Is she o.k.?
Gosh you both type so fast. I have to think about what I want to say, then translate it in my head, then type it all out with one finger! Takes blooming ages I tell you.

kapunua said...

Hey Welshie! Mummy K has a job, and, well, we are hanging in there best we can. Some days are still really hard in that "Can this really be?" kind of way.

BUT. Most days are doable. :)

sdock10 said...

Thank you, Jules! That means so much. I'm glad that I've changed, though I like to think of it as more of an awakening. You don't realize how stuck you are until you get unstuck, and like I said, it's really only because I got comfortable. You only decide to change when things get uncomfortable or you're forced to, and I'm so thankful for every single bit of shit that I've been through(which is NOTHING, NOTHING compard to others) because it's made me a better/happier/calmer person.

kapunua said...

I'm glad you're both hanging in there Kapunua. It's not easy is it. It's Mother's Day here on Sunday so it'll be quite sad really for me. Still you carry on don't you.

kapunua said...

In that case, Carri: Trust And Betrayal. Oooooh, make sure you get this one and not Seishohen (Reflections) which is ridiculous or plain old "Samurai X" which is like a side-story.

Sadly, Tsuiokuhen is out of print but you can get a used one.

I just lent my copy out to Sifu. I won't sleep soundly till I get it back.

kapunua said...

Actually, we could get into trouble if we got caught sneaking into Camp Hero and going under the fence to look at Einstein's and Tesla's old computer room. :D

Oooohhhh! Adventure! Trouble! We'll have soooo much fun, Jules! *ssqqquuuee*

I want Marty to sing that creepy song about killing that girl. Was it a Carter Family song?

kapunua said...

Oh, so the 21st! I'm sorry for the mistake. The 19th then must be my last day of school for this term.

Thank you, anon!

sdock10 said...

Yessssssssssss, Smoke, wouldn't that rule? I might cry tonight. Just puttin that out there.

Jules, you and Jack White would get along so well. He's mad into Tesla and all things scientific and stuff.

Smoke said...

I soooo wanna go see 30STM! I hope we can work it out. My little cousin wants to go sooo bad but I don't know if it's gonna happen.

I want to hear Jared sing Hurricane and Capricorn!

DILEMMA!

sdock10 said...

Jack shows Meg his Tesla coil

Welshie said...

Of course I meant Amy Winehouse not Winehoue!

You know I'm no good is a great song K.

Aaahhh! Smoke! Is that really you? Do you still have your tiara and mirror? (I told you I lurked, hee hee)

Smoke said...

Well Mayo,

Hope you are doing okay. Haven't talked to you in awhile. See you around, okay?

SS,

You too! Hope all is well with you and yours!

See you guys later! Gotta go finish getting ready. ♥

Smoke said...

You know it, Welshie! Mayo tried to steal my mirror once but I got it back. ^_~

LOL! Later!

Blogger is still being what I believe Jules would call a "douchewhistle" to me, and my big guts are eating my little ones, so I'm gonna go eat some lunch. Have fun guys, it was nice hanging out again.

Welshie said...

My god I'm exhausted trying to keep up with you lot!! haha.

It's teatime here so I rummaged in my freezer for something yummy to have for my tea and the lid of the freezer slammed down on my head!

Welshie is seeing stars at the moment!! Bright and beautiful stars.

sdock10 said...

In honor of RW, and for Welshie hitting her head...

O_O

kapunua said...

Auwe, Welshie, we have the fastest fingers in the west. ;)

IN THE WORLD.

Solly, you know, that was strangely captivating! Too bad it was out of sync though. They're pretty cute!

Kapunua said...

Blogger IS being a douchewhistle because it gobbled my comment. I think I said that, Welshie, we have the fastest fingers in the west.

IN THE WORLD.

And tha tSolly's video was strangely captivating and that those two were cute. :)

kapunua said...

Drat it all!

I'd also like to add--in case I didn't mention it already--that the power level is

over NINE THOUSAAAAAND.

Within the year
Spring has come again;
The one year:
What should I say: that it's last year,
Or that it's the year to come?

Welshie said...

I'm so clumsy you know. I punched myself in the face the other day trying to catch a grape! Don't ask!

Oh I've missed those googly eyes!

A catalpa bow:
Pulled and released: this spring

In spring, the dawn – when the slowly paling mountain rim is tinged with red, and wisps of faintly crimson-purple cloud float in the sky.

sdock10 said...

Yeah, Jules, it's bad out of sync, but still pretty neat. We started watching It Might Get Loud last night and I swear, just when I think I can't love Jack White any more than I already do, BOOM! He does something that just makes me admire him that much more. It's so cool when you find an artist that is just as big a fan of music as you are.

Well, Gals, I gotta go pick up Smoke and head to Augusta to see Marty Stuart. I've only been dreaming of this since I was 11, so it's kind of a big deal for me. I just hope everyone else enjoys it too.

Mayo, who knows, I might just run into you there. *wink wink* If not, see ya 'round.

SS, hope you're well.

Everyone else, just laugh your asses off. Cuz shit is funny as hell, I swear.

Jules, Welshie, Carrie, Smoke, nice to chat with you. Hope we get to do this again someday.

Byeeeeeeee!

sdock10 said...

Welshie, I once stepped on a rake (cartoon style) and gave myself a black eye.

It was awesome.

I was like this o_O.

Byeeeeee!

kapunua said...

Good bye my dears! Also gonna bail. Gots ta water plants and fold laundry.

This was fun, you guys.

And remember.

Over NINE THOUSAAAND.

Welshie said...

You stood on a rake? hahahaha. sorry but I had to laugh.

Have a wonderful time Solly and Smoke. It's been a pleasure talking to you. Oh I had to google Marty Stuart. Never heard of him sorry.

Anonymous said...

I don't know what the point of this was.

Welshie said...

Bye Kapunua. It's been a pleasure talking to you as well.

Take care.

I think Carrie's been kidnapped by blogger!

*Goes to get piggy bank*

"Hey Mr Blogger give Carrie back."
*Hands piggy bank over to Mr Blogger*.

Welshie said...

Right I'm off to eat my tea.

Ta ta everyone.

They're just helping Mayo's comment count reach 10,000?

They all grew a wild hair up their asses on the same day?

They got bored where they were?

The loved the watching wishing waiting comment?

They're day tripping and time warping?

Anonymous said...

They discovered the cure for the common cold and came to tell Mayo but forgot?

They wanted to be here for the first eva 9000th comment?

The missed the blog and everybody here?

Anonymous said...

They found the weapons of mass destruction?

Captured Bin Laden?

Found a new source of power?

One of them is pregnant and they wanted to invite Mayo to the baby shower?

They want SS to be the baby's godfather?

They came to dust off the furniture and clean out the blog cobwebs?

Pick one or two.

Hell. Go wild and pick three 2:01. ^_~

morning

Can't say good as I was woken up by a knock on the door from a guy needing my phone to report a really bad single car accident up the road.
All the emergency services have just arrived. Tragic that in a short while peoples lives are going to be irrevocably changed, someone didn't make it home.
Just so very very sad.

they wanted to be pain in the ass.

Exactly. some people have more important things to think about than posting random quotes and poems. I mean its nice to have a empathy and think of others.

"
The missed the blog and everybody here?"

Are you SERIOUS? Did they even say hello to "everyone here"??

Nope. Not that I saw.

Anonymous said...

I didn't like the 900 thing. Not my humour I guess.

Anonymous said...

Forgive me for being particularly fond of this one

Anonymous said...

Nobody said hello to them.

Does it matter.

Anonymous said...

Now THAT is good humour.

Fimble Star, sign in. No one said hello to you because we weren't here. And maybe because you never say hello to us and we knew we'd be ignored if we tried.
