guts

It is interesting when you get a fresh perspective of yourself from a new acquaintance. Even at this reasonably accomplished age, I am still able to find myself anew.

Recently, I have been fortunate to gain the friendship of an interesting character. A smart, quick-witted, young “old chap” of a guy whose creativity and open-minded ideals speak volumes for his generation. At his age I was not nearly as wise, worldly, cultured, present, or relevant as he is. Even now his intellect far exceeds my own, and his ability to perceive others astounds me. He is very deliberate with his words, often taking what seems to me to be far too long to respond to my often off-kilter banter. But always following his reflection, he delivers an astute, provocative discourse on whatever topic I had mindlessly rambled into. Seriously, the guy can talk me under the table…and that is saying something.

And I must admit he is a bit off, as well. Regardless, or perhaps in spite of those facts, I find him very interesting.

As it goes with most new friendships there is the crush period. The time where everything about the new friend is fascinating and we often try to find a bit of ourselves in our new pal. And so my new friend has attempted to find fascination in me, and has asked for the privilege (his term, not mine) of reading some of my writing. I initially waved him off, figured he would find what he wanted or give up. But, after the third very polite request, I obliged.

It is strange; I can write for an unknown audience without fear. I can put it out there for the world to read, all of it…without a second thought. Yet when I directly hand over a few poems to my new friend, I am paralyzed.

As I said, my new friend is very perceptive. So, when I stuffed a few of my poems in his hand and continued on about the weather, he immediately detected my insecurity. He saw in my rushed speech and downcast eyes that I was nervous. And while I waited for him to speak, to interrupt my prattle, I reeled. He placed the pages face down on the table, then said “Ah yes, I see I was correct. You are an exhibitionist and shy, both.”

Which really put me to thought…what purpose am I serving with these characteristics, if characteristics do in fact serve us?

I suppose that those opposing characteristics, that in my case are so apparently extreme, benefit each other. I can only imagine that my unchecked exhibitionism would undoubtedly lead me to my depraved end, and that my need to slap the world in the face keeps me from becoming a total shut-in.

p.s. what you got in you; what it takes.

mayo,

well, i have spent the evening discovering that there are, in fact, no tarot websites that i really like.

*sigh*

it is not so great having all your decks safely in storage 2400 miles away.

just in case you needed to know that.

have a good night, mayo. take care, and sweet dreams.

Thanks anon and Ergo. I had heard the wreck made the "big" news. I'm just so glad that there were only minor injuries. The people they interviewed said it "was suddenly just a wall of white". How scary that must of been.

Well off to take my mom out for the day. No school since it's a legal holiday and she has a list. LOL

HAPPY LUNDI GRAS, everyone!!!!

Hello Mayo, SS, Ergo, Elena, TJ, MissT, Amy, kings, queens, dukes, duchesses, court jesters, grand marshalls and all those who enjoy the pagentry and masquerade of Carnival!!!!

How are you all, today? Well and happy, I hope!!!

Me? I'm cold. Thanks, so much, for asking!

:P

My poor parrot is going to freeze his little tail feathers off tomorrow morning! And, so am I!

I think I better take 3:04's advice and wear my heavy coat over my costume!

I was reconsidering the costume (since it will be in the 30s F tomorrow); but, Bre has decided to be her Nanny's first mate! It seems she has a pirate costume she wore (for something or another) a couple of years ago. So, YAY and ahoy me maties!!!

Permission to "climb aboard" granted!

;)

Ergo: A very good morning to you!!!

I hope you all had a wonderful Valentine's Day!!!

Stay safe and warm, everyone! And, enjoy the evening!

Hugs and Love,
~Namaste~

Was going to visit a friend today, after running about town again, but after driving through one stretch of water on the road, and confronted by another stretch underwater, knowing there are creeks before her place and being unable to even see the road well through the rain, I decided not to.
Funny thing is, it isn't raining in other places! I drove about 5 mins and was out of it completely.
Such unstable weather at the moment.

Good Night

ergo, you know they say you should never drive through water-covered roads! tsk tsk.

'course my sister speeds up when confronted with large puddles, just to get the splash, so i can't really speak from any prudent experience...

ergoproxy said...

I could see the road still, it was only flowing over it in a wide shallow sheet, but the next bit was a lot longer and as it was still raining I thought it prudent not to go further esp as it was still raining. Now it's bucketing down here, and I rang a neighbour to say I didn't know if they'd get home if they didn't try soon, they have to cross a little creek just after their gate.
We have a small river running down our yard and a little waterfall on our hill!

ergoproxy said...

Oh I said it was still raining twice, well it was raining a lot, so it needs saying twice lol

Mayo

Just wanted to pop in and say that I hope you are well. Holy crap that sounds so formal. “I hope you are well”…

Yeah well I do hope that so whatever.

Think I’ll go watch another episode of Hoarders. I’m not sure why I find the show so interesting, maybe because I’m always a bit worried one day I will end up on the show. I’m not to that point by any means but I am a collector. Well, I used to be, now not so much. Anymore I’m kinda in reverse mode. I get a wild hair and start getting rid of stuff that was once very important to me. I don’t toss it, I donate it. (The Salvation Army loves me). I give them some really nice things that I know will generate money for them so I do feel good about that. But sometimes I go overboard, getting rid of things I will probably want later on. I do this until I come across something my dad gave me and then it all comes to a standstill. I hold the item in my hand and suddenly I remember perfectly the day he gave it to me. It’s so weird. Dad gave me so many antiques (he was a collector too) but still the memory is so vivid. I can remember where we were and even what he was wearing. I see him in my mind and while the memories are happy they make me miss him so damn much. (I had to smile when I realized I said I remember what he was wearing…..Dad always wore plaid shirts) So while it might seem silly saying I remember what he was wearing it really isn’t. I can remember what plaid shirt it was.

I know he would tell me to stop being silly. That’s it’s just a cup and saucer, a postcard or a Nippon bowl but I can’t help it. I know that it made him happy that I loved the item so the item becomes something important. The item is a memory I can’t let go of.

Okay, well anyway, take care.

Night Mayo

good night, elena. it's good to have memories like that, however you choose to hold on them.

ergo, if you actually have a waterfall then yes, it truly is worth repeating twice!

ergoproxy said...

hey elena, sweet dreams and it is wonderful to have the memories, you keep them close to your heart.

TJ it doesn't happen often, but we got about 2 inches of rain in about an hour, the ground is sodden so it all just runs off, looks pretty cool.

toujours said...

that's definitely alot of rain! every time that happens over here, you'll see pictures on the news of flooded streets. it's just so weird to think about that much rain coming down at once.

better than frogs, though, i guess!

ergoproxy said...

Much better than frogs, we ahve a huge green tree frog on the veranda, he sits on the sill at night, he's so cuddly. I love frogs.

We are lucky the rain can all run off, cities get a fraction of the amount we do and get flooded, as happened down south just yesterday, nowhere to run off so it builds up.

toujours said...

a frog sitting on the sill is much better than one falling out of the sky!

here at my folks', they have a itty bitty creek running through their backyard only when it rains heavily. it actually does drain down through the woods to the creek there.

makes extra work though when the dog is out running through the yard. they go through alot of towels then. :)

ergoproxy said...

Oh yes you would! I keep old towels by the door as whenever you go outside you end up with mud on your feet and/or wet shoes.

toujours said...

oh yeah, the towels are just awful afterwards. but here's the thing, sometimes i think the dog is got this all figured out, because she gets a little doggie treat after having her paws wiped off. it was supposed to be a reward for good beahvior, but now it's automatic, and i swear soemtimes she goes outside just to come back in and get her paws wiped off!

mayo,

there's this thing i do, i've done it for years, ever since i was a teenager. every once in awhile i'll get an urge to do research on myself, to take some sequence of events and write them down in linear form, a timeline rather than a story.

it's completely redundant; i keep a journal. but somehow i get a hankering to sort out certain stories.

*heh*

i guess i'm making plot outlines, just out of the events of my own life.

i have one detailing the points of my development as a pagan; that one's massive, it starts when i was a little kid. it ran out steam when i caught up to myself. they usually do. it's research after all. you can't research the present.

i have one for the blog, i remember i made one for the first year of my relationship with my ex, and oh man, there was even one back when i was big ol' trekkie.

(well, that just embarrassing. *grin*)

anyway, i had the hankering to work on one of them tonight, polish up the verb tenses, make sure the dates were all accurate.

i don't know why i do these, not really. part of it i guess is that i really do like doing research, and part of it also is probably because it feels like i can make sense out of certain threads of my life story. there's a feeling, too, that i'm recording something for posterity, like a scientist taking notes on an experiment. just the facts, ma'am.

it's probably some sign that i'm wacko, huh.

*grin*

oh well.

have a good night, mayo. take care, and sweet dreams.

mayo,

wandered off, wandered back, ended up getting caught up in reading back through the early posts.

it's weird to realize how long ago that was. so much has changed, and i mean not just here on the blog, but with everyone. we're all different people now, aren't we?

it's good, though. it means we're growing, becoming more, and (because deep down i am really just an optimist) becoming better.

i'm glad i've been a part of this, i'm glad i've had the chance to become friends with people from around the world without leaving my chair. i'm on a completely different path than i would have been, and though it's rocky right now, i'm glad to be heading in this new direction.

and i'm very glad to have been able to read your posts, mayo, all of them -- the scary ones, the silly ones, the stories, the riddles, the beautiful prose, and the beautiful poetry.

you're the author of this blog; you started it, and the ending belongs to you.

and so i'll be hanging out here until then (because i'm kind of silly loyal like that) and when i'm not here on this comfy ol' couch of yours i'll be out exploring that new beginning i found here.

hope you did, too.

take care, my friend. good night, and sweet dreams.

I'm watching videos of Les Miserables on youtube Ergo. I went to see it last week in Manchester. Brilliant. I can't stop singing the songs though.

ergoproxy said...

It is a brilliant show, I have seen it on tv here, there is a channel that shows a lot of performances, operas, Gilbert and Sullivan (which I love) ballets, concerts it's really good as we don't get the chance to see things as we're so far from the capital cities.

Have you seen Blood Brothers Ergo. I'm hoping to go and see it again soon. I live about and hour and a half away from the nearest theatre. I love musicals. mayo,

today when i went out and got the mail for my folks i just couldn't stay inside. i dropped it on the counter and headed right back out.

it wasn't that it was a gorgeous day; it wasn't. it was overcast and windy and cold. the snow's mostly gone, and what's left is dingy. the ground was dull and brown and muddy.

but i needed to be out there. i was hungry for the wild air, hungry for the bare woods. i had a head full of thoughts that could only be answered by the empty spaces behind my folks' house.

i ended up spending a lot of time looking at rocks at the creekside, pocketing tiny quartz beads of water-smoothed stone, admiring the rest, kneeling on the wet ground, my face so close i could smell the earth and oh...i had forgotten how good it smells.

and when i had one pocket jumbled full with damp pebbles and the other pocket cradling two fossil stones, i walked.

every time i go to the fallow field on the other side of the woods, it's different. today i stood in a hollow and the land rose around me like arms enfolding me, a comforting embrace. i stood there for the longest time.

came back muddy and scratched, a little later than i should have but still in time to be astonished by the intensity of a strawberry quik-colored sunset.

and now i have rocks. and fossils. and a few answers for my poor brain.

and the utter certainty that it is in the empty places that i am the least alone.

good night, mayo. take care, always.

FIRST TIME SEX
A girl asks her boyfriend to come over Friday night to meet, and have a dinner with her parents.

Since this is such a big event, the girl announces to her boyfriend that after dinner, she would like to go out and make love for the first time.

The boy is ecstatic, but he has never had sex before, so he takes a trip to the pharmacist to get some condoms. He tells the pharmacist it's his first time and the pharmacist helps the boy for about an hour. He tells the boy everything there is to know about condoms and sex.

At the register, the pharmacist asks the boy how many condoms he'd like to buy, a 3-pack, 10-pack, or family pack. The boy insists on the family pack because he thinks he will be rather busy, it being his first time and all.

That night, the boy shows up at the girl's parents house and meets his girlfriend at the door.

"Oh, I'm so excited for you to meet my parents, come on in!"

The boy goes inside and is taken to the dinner table where the girl's parents are seated. He takes his place at the table and quickly offers to say grace and bows his head. A minute passes, and the boy is still deep in prayer, with his head down.

10 minutes pass, and still no movement from the boy.

Finally, after 20 minutes with his head down, the girlfriend leans over and whispers to the boyfriend, "I had no idea you were this religious."

The boy turns, and whispers back,

"I had no idea your father was a pharmacist."

Mornin' all!

Miss T. I hope you're settling in alright. Looking forward to hearing from you. Take care luv.

Thank you all for the good wishes for my friend and her twin babies. They're all doing well. Nel the smallest of the twins was having a few problems, nothing serious, but they're just keeping an eye on her. They should all be allowed home in a few days:)

Now Mayo and S.S. where the hell are you?
Do you know what I think? I think you've both come over to Wales to look for Welshie haven't you. 'Cos I heard a rumour that two men had been found totally disorientated on Mount Snowdon. Apparantley you can hear their cries in the distance "Welshie, Welshie, come save us. We promise to make a new post every day if only you can get us off this blooming mountain."

Well lucky for you I've got a day off today.
Don't worry Mayo and S.S. I'll find you. Eventually. Mount Snowdon is pretty big you know and Welshie's only licl. It might take some time!

*puts on walking boots and waterproof coat*

Right I'm off. Wish me luck everyone :)

Good Morning

Wow did yesterday turn out to be just beautiful. It got to 54 degrees, which was a heat wave for sure. It was great getting out and walking in the sunshine.

Of course today it is right back to cold and it’s raining. LOL

Oh well, that is just how the cookie crumbles. It is Feb in Kansas, now if he can just dodge the snow they are calling for on Sunday. One station went so far to say we might get anywhere from 6 to 20 inches of the white stuff. Holy crap they better be wrong.

Anyway have a great day everyone.

Hi Elena, let's hope you don't get too much snow.

Anon, couldn't watch your links sorry. Blocked in the U.K.
Typical.

O.K. back to climbing this damn mountain!

I'll keep this short because I know the kind of drama it stirs up with you and turns blues into anons and makes everyone mad. But I feel.... Like I just have to say it because I made a mistake.

I still sometimes go to Kap's journal. I read about the guy and.... I was one of the people who picked on her about his age. I thought he was 19 and I said that here. It started some rumors. Or added to them. I looked up the chinese new year she was talking about and did the math. An animal comes once every twelve years. If she's not lying, and her guy is a tiger and this is the year of the tiger, he has to be 24. Not 19.

I think she is STILL alot older than him. I personally would never go out with someone that much younger. She is in her 30s. He is in his early 20s. I don't know why it bothers me. Men go out with younger women and no one cares. That doesn't bother me either.

But I wanted to make ammends. He is not 19, he's 24 (if she's telling the truth).

Looking at pictures of them together, they look happy. She actually looks..... sweet. Maybe he calmed her down. Maybe he tamed the fire, who knows. I just can't think of her as bad.

Maybe it doesn't matter anymore.

But I am sorry for the drama I caused her and for saying he was 19 or underage. I still think it's weird but if it works for them, they are both adults and whatever.

Sorry for making it seem like something it wasn't.

I hope this doesn't get you people too riled up. I just had to say my peace.

Welshie said...

Hi anon. Like you I also go to Kapunua's journal. I find her to be very interesting and funny. (funny haha not funny peculiar!!)

Do you know what it makes no difference to me about the age difference. They look very happy together, so in my book that's all that matters.

My neighbour married a guy who was 16 years younger than her. They now have two daughters and are blisfully happy. Like she says "You're as young as the man you feel" :)

I have to say it's nice to see someone apologising for past wrongs. I think it was very gracious of you anon.

Anonymous said...

I agree with Welshie, that was very gracious of you, anon. I applaud you for wanting to make amends. It is never to late to acknowledge mistakes and try to correct them. And speak to Kapunua as much as you wish, anon. Speak to anyone for that matter. But if I may? You could have tried to retain your manners for the 'you people' here by more politely wording your last two sentences. If you don't want to rile people up, I wouldn't recommend quietly jabbing at them. Even if those around you do the same. You are trying to better yourself, are you not? :)

Anonymous said...

I disagree with the anon and Welshie. Kapunua doesn't deserve anything. No apologies from me. Not until she tries to make amends for the wrong she and her friends did to OPJ and for laughing at Amyranth when she was only trying to help.

Not to mention the constant ignoring of those she didn't think were worthy (who didn't "shine as bright" as her friends), for brushing people aside, for shutting people out, laughing in their faces, and all around being nasty.

Nope. She gets nothing from me. I don't care how "sweet" you think she is. LOL, you must not have been here for too long.

Welshie, I know you're new, and you missed all of that. The things her and her friends did. The endless poetry just to annoy others. Countless times after they were asked to stop. The veiled comments. The snobbishness.

You would have a much different view if you had been here when her and her friends were regular commenters.

Anonymous said...

Um, I thought Welshie was here then, she just lurked.

Anonymous said...

What pictures? *curious* I don't see any.

Anonymous said...

"Like she says "You're as young as the man you feel" :)"

LOL Welshie!!! Haha.

Anonymous said...

Not going to help you 2.20.

Anonymous said...

There's nothing wrong with her friendship with a much younger man. He could be like a younger brother to her.

Anonymous said...

She could be like an older sister to him. There's nothing wrong with them hanging out together.

Anonymous said...

She could be like his mother figure.

Thanks Wendy sweetie.

Just a quickie, have you missed me? I'm on my uncles computer. I'll be getting my broadband up by the beginning of next month.

God it's been hectic, so much travelling and it's so expensive starting from scratch.

I have a nice place but it's strange getting used to new noises in the building when I lay in bed at night.

I have missed you all so much.

I gotta go now cos my uncle has just made me my supper and it'll go cold.

Loads of love to all of you. Can't wait till I get my own computer back and can chat more.

*huge hugs and snogs* xxxxx

Anonymous said...

Sorry anon. I just say what I see. I find her and her ilk both creepy. Always have. And her lusting after this man is what I call creepy. 19 or 24 doesn't matter to me. It's just creepy.

4:58 this is exactly what I meant when I said that it gets you all started. I just came to correct a mistake I made and say I was sorry for making it.
