guts

It is interesting when you get a fresh perspective of yourself from a new acquaintance. Even at this reasonably accomplished age, I am still able to find myself anew.

Recently, I have been fortunate to gain the friendship of an interesting character. A smart, quick-witted, young “old chap” of a guy whose creativity and open-minded ideals speak volumes for his generation. At his age I was not nearly as wise, worldly, cultured, present, or relevant as he is. Even now his intellect far exceeds my own, and his ability to perceive others astounds me. He is very deliberate with his words, often taking what seems to me to be far too long to respond to my often off-kilter banter. But always following his reflection, he delivers an astute, provocative discourse on whatever topic I had mindlessly rambled into. Seriously, the guy can talk me under the table…and that is saying something.

And I must admit he is a bit off, as well. Regardless, or perhaps in spite of those facts, I find him very interesting.

As it goes with most new friendships there is the crush period. The time where everything about the new friend is fascinating and we often try to find a bit of ourselves in our new pal. And so my new friend has attempted to find fascination in me, and has asked for the privilege (his term, not mine) of reading some of my writing. I initially waved him off, figured he would find what he wanted or give up. But, after the third very polite request, I obliged.

It is strange; I can write for an unknown audience without fear. I can put it out there for the world to read, all of it…without a second thought. Yet when I directly hand over a few poems to my new friend, I am paralyzed.

As I said, my new friend is very perceptive. So, when I stuffed a few of my poems in his hand and continued on about the weather, he immediately detected my insecurity. He saw in my rushed speech and downcast eyes that I was nervous. And while I waited for him to speak, to interrupt my prattle, I reeled. He placed the pages face down on the table, then said “Ah yes, I see I was correct. You are an exhibitionist and shy, both.”

Which really put me to thought…what purpose am I serving with these characteristics, if characteristics do in fact serve us?

I suppose that those opposing characteristics, that in my case are so apparently extreme, benefit each other. I can only imagine that my unchecked exhibitionism would undoubtedly lead me to my depraved end, and that my need to slap the world in the face keeps me from becoming a total shut-in.

p.s. what you got in you; what it takes.

But Evertime the bell would ring
You'd catch me playing with my dang-a-ling

Now this here song it ain't so bad
Prettiest little song that you ever had
And those of you who will not sing
must be playing with your own Dang-a-ling

Chuck Berry won't mind the changes to his lyrics. He likes his dangly bits. The proof is in the song.

Puttin' in the shirt studs

I'm steppin' out, my dear
To breathe an atmosphere that simply reeks with class
And I trust that you'll excuse my dust when I step on the gas

For I'll be there
Puttin' down my top hat
Mussin' up my white tie
Dancin' in my tails

Why you should never lie to a girl

There was a naked man resting and enjoying the view on the beach. He saw a little girl coming toward him, so he covered himself with the newspaper he was reading. The girl came up to him and asked, “What do you have under the newspaper, Mr.?” Thinking quickly, the guy replied, "A bird."

"But what were things on the side of the bird" she asked.

"The bird's eggs" he replied.

"What was all that hairy looking stuff Mr."

"The bird's nest. Now go away and leave me alone, little girl."

The girl walked away, and the guy fell asleep. When he woke up, he was in a hospital in tremendous pain. The police asked him what happened. The guy says, “I don’t know. I was lying on the beach, this little girl asked me a few questions, I guess I dozed off, and the next thing I know is I’m here.”

The police went to the beach, found the girl, and asked her, “What did you do to that naked fellow?” After a pause, the girl replied, “To him? Nothing. I was playing with his bird and it spit on me, so I broke its neck, cracked its eggs, and set its nest on fire!”

Wendy, again, I am so sorry about Miss Bingles. I hope you are doing ok, and know she knew she was loved and had a wonderful life with you.

Elena, feel better soon, woman. It's like your body said, "Hey, look, that huge toothache that Mr. Elena has, that looks like fun. Let's do that!"

Ergo, let's team up on that thrift store shopping. If only we had a transportation machine so that we could pop in and out of each country whenever we wanted.

*must remember to check Goodwill for transportation machine parts*

Oh, we got our package yesterday. Thank you! We have one of the note pads on the fridge, and J. has the ladybug key sleeve, and I have the butterfly. And we are going to use the runner for Christmas. You will have a package in a few weeks too!

Amy, congrats, congrats, congrats! Tell Mr. the same and hello.

Miss T., Ghost Hunters Live! Wow, I am really envious. I would love to see that. You have to give us a report when you get back home. Is Stuart still with them? Poor thing, he was always the one they sent in to the worst of it, and the one who seems to always get smacked around and scared shitless by the ghosts.

Anyone who watches Ghost Hunter, do you remember when Stuart was in the barn and they were looking for the spirit of a witch? Derek was there too, and Stuart got kicked in the chest by something, and was crying and screaming for them to get him out? Even Derek looked scared. And the next day, Stuart had this huge bruise on his chest. I know that some of the ghost shows are faked, but I really think that one was mighty real.

Anima, Hey, and good to see you. Hope you are doing ok.

Everyone else, have a great day, and I may talk to you later tonight, depends on when I get back. Our friend with MS is having treatments today and I'm going over to cook dinner for her and stay for a few hours to make sure she is alright. Someone has to be with her at all times when she has the treatments so if something happens, there will be help.

Love ya,
L.

Mayo,

I do like this post, and it explains a lot. It can be hard to turn over your words or images to someone.

I actually have the opposite problem. I can easily allow my friends and family to look at my work, maybe because I know they will be gentle even if it's crap. But strangers? They will be honest, even if it's harsh. When I was in school, one of our art projects was to paint murals on downtown windows for Christmas. I was in a team of three, and we worked for a week, a few hours each day after school. I was very aware of the people who passed by, who watched us paint. I found myself second guessing each part, and pushed myself to make it better. I was never sure if that was a good thing or not, if I was trying to please everyone, did I lose what I really wanted to paint?

That's how I am in most things. I want to please everyone, but that can't always be done. I have had to learn when to draw that line, when to say "no, this is what I want to do, for me, not anyone else".

Always the two sides pushing and pulling at each other. I think you probably have a good idea of what I mean. It's hard when the battle's inside. You have to tear into yourself before you can even see what you are fighting.

Keep fighting, Mayo.

Love,
L.

Original Punk L said...

S.S.,

How's it going? Are you coloring, or driving? Or both?

Just don't do both at the same time, you might ruin your picture.

I have to share this with you, just cause I think you will get a kick out it.

For several days my Mum has been trying to get rid of a rat that somehow got into the house, to no avail. So for some reason, she decided to O.D. this rat. You heard me, valiumize it. She crushed up a valium in a bit of cheese, and put it under the bathroom sink, which is where it has been hanging out. Sure enough, later that day it was gone.

Now here's the best part. Yesterday, Mum went into the bathroom and was quite startled to see, yes, the same rat run out from under the sink and behind the dryer.

They found the hole it was using to get into the house, beside the dryer hose, so that has now been patched.

So now, you know that giving a whole valium to a rat will just mellow it out. I imagined it wandering around the bathroom night before last, going "yeah, man, iz all cook, yeah, oh, look, cat food, and uh, yeah, dude..."

Have a cool day, dude!

Love,
L.

Greetings blogvania!

I have a favor to ask.

I know many here are literary minded.

I'm writing a book on palmistry for this publishing company.

Long story short: Writing this even though the market is saturated because so many books are bogged down with unnecessary ranting and they're hard to follow.

If any of you get the chance, I'm going to post a sample chapter on my blog. (Think I can do that as long as I take it down before book is published)

Let me know if it is easy to understand and follow.

If it is confusing and you don't know what I'm referring to, please please let me know.

I'm trying to write this in such a way that anyone can begin reading palms in minutes.

Thank you, guys.

BTW, L wants me to clarify something from her "to everyone" comment. The show she was calling "Ghost Hunter", she meant "Most Haunted". Too many ghost shows on, dang it.

Original Punk J said...

I liked The Sweet, too, Ergo, and David Bowie of course, and Iggy Pop--love me some Iggy!

Anonymous said...

Four times? Must have enjoyed yourselves :) I didn't go, although, TBS & Linkin Park would have been good to see.

ergoproxy said...

I saw some other ghost show last night, but the poeple were pretty annoying in it

I also watched "Storm Chasers", however I think, seeing as it happens to the TIV every episode it should be called "Storm Just-Missers"

ergoproxy said...

oh yes David goes without saying! there were so many short lived bands too, all the one hit wonders of that time, some were pretty good

Anonymous said...

4:45's music list sounds definitely like Wendy's.

Anyways, hi guys!

Original Punk J said...

Ergo, was the show called "Ghost Adventures" with some clown named Zack? Did he make you want to egg on the ghosts and say, 'Come beat this motherfucker?'

Never watched "Storm Chasers", seems kind of repetitive.

Anon, we DID enjoy ourselves during PR. The best show we saw was in Indianapolis, MCR was really on that night. The energy coming off that stage from them was amazing. TBS was good, we saw them all 4 times. We like Linkin Park, just by the time they came on we were exhausted and wanted to take showers and sleeeeeeeeeeeeeep. :)

Original Punk J said...

Hey BC! Long time no see!

ergoproxy said...

hello BC how are you?

I am wondering if elena posted any list

shuffle is funny as out of the hundreds or thousands of songs on it, heaps from bands you listen to all the time, it can bring no songs people might actually associate with you

ergoproxy said...

J it could have been, a young guy, they were in a jail and he kept yelling at the ghosts, yes we did sit there saying "oh just whop this dude!!"
they did EVP's and such and it allegedly said "I'll kill you" twice, ghosts obviously felt the same way we did!

Anonymous said...

Hi ergo, I'm doing pretty good, thanks for asking. And you?

Hi J, so good to see you? How iz you doing?

ergoproxy said...

I'm great thanks BC, beautiful day, if a bit hot

J it was him, I just wiki'd it

Original Punk J said...

I actually thought 1.47 might be Elena's list.

Yep, sounds like Zack! Rather young, sort of blondish, really tall, and bossy. I wanted to stab him in the eye several times.

I iz ok, BC, how about you?

ergoproxy said...

I wondered 6:39 , so we obviously have no idea!

Original Punk J said...

Anybody ever watch "Ghost Lab"? They take the most scientific approach of any of the shows.

We were just talking about "Ghostbusters", saying how they were the original "Most Haunted"!

And, L just told me she saw a Christmas ornament yesterday of the Swedish Chef. To beat all, he's being held over a pot by the Mexican lobsters. O_o

Anonymous said...

That's good J, glad to hear. I'm doing okay too thanks

ergoproxy said...

oh I totally want that ornament!!

we don't have Ghost Lab on here, it may be one day I'll look out for it

we just got a heap of new pay channels so I'm enjoying "How Do I Look" each day. I'm not saying I always dress brilliantly but some of the people on that show...holy cow

Original Punk J said...

BC, what's going on with school for you? Have you decided anything yet?

Original Punk J said...

Never seen that one, Ergo. I imagine it's a makeover show? Kind of like "What Not to Wear".

ergoproxy said...

yes it is, it's not as good though
it's on at lunchtime so it's one of my channel flicking shows. I usually watch the start to see how they look before, then the end, to see the after. The middle part is a bit dull

Anonymous said...

J, to be honest, I'm still trying to decide my options.

Original Punk J said...

L's got me into watching cooking shows; me, the one who does not cook. This may be why I'm getting the Suzy Homemaker vibe lately, wanting to make things. My favorite one is "Ace of Cakes", they make the coolest cakes I have ever seen.

ergoproxy said...

our year 12's just finished their schooling here, it's now what they call Schoolies Week, were thousands descend on popular beaches for a week.
It's a time you just don't even consider going there lol

Original Punk J said...

We have the same mad riot of children here. We call it Spring Break. MTV likes to televise it. Sooooooo many parents find out what their kids are doing via TV.

BC, what about that job interview you had? Did they reschedule that, or have you found anything else?

Anonymous said...

Get a Martha Stewart Magazine. It automatically lures you to cook.

ergoproxy said...

yep that's what Schoolies is like, kids up here tend not to go as wild though as those further south, but I know some parents who are a bit tense

I like Ace of Cakes, they are brilliant, I saw them do a set of bumper cars for a wedding, such a clever idea

Original Punk J said...

We saw one where they made the Hogwarts Express on top of the tracks over the mountains for the NY premiere of "The Half-Blood Prince". They even got dry ice to make smoke come out of the smokestack! Amazing.

Um...Martha Stewart only inspires me to throw up. She's too fucking prissy for me. :P

ergoproxy said...

I'm with you on MS, I don't like the ways he speaks

you know I have found that I prefer chefs who chop stuff up on a board then scrape it into the bowl, pot or whatever. People that chop, then pick bits up and take about 3 trips to put them in annoy me.
I like ones who cook like normal people cook

Anonymous said...

J, I lost the interview altogether lol.

Anonymous said...

Ya don't know what you're missing J.

^_~

Anonymous said...

I'm with you on MS, I don't like the ways he speaks

he ?

ergoproxy said...

she speaks, not he lol

Original Punk J said...

Computer froze. Again. Grrr.

Sorry, anon, I think I might! :D I'd rather eat sandwiches than have MS cook for me or around me or at me or whatever. No offense to you, though. :)

Ergo, I don't care for chefs that over-touch the ingredients. Like Paula Deen, she just digs her hands into everything and never washes them. Ick.

Anonymous said...

It's okay Ergo. It's easy to mistake her for a man *giggles*.

Who are your fav chefs J?

toujours said...

hello. :)

i am proud to say that i am now 100% martha-free, and have been for years.

Original Punk J said...

Guy Fieri and Rachael Ray. Guy's funny, and just goes in and throws everything together, and there y'go, dinner.

Rachael's kind of like that, too, nothing fussy and she's no-nonsense about the cooking.

Anonymous said...

It's far too late for me Toujours. I now have a terrible addiction :)

toujours said...

it is easy to fall into anon! i will confess i still linger a bit when her holiday issue comes out...

but i remember watching her show was like having a fairy tale to escape to, you know?

i harbor no ill will to her, though i am in full recovery. :)

ergoproxy said...

hello TJ

toujours said...

hi ergo! did'ja bake your cookies yet?

Anonymous said...

It's nice to have a touch of fantasy in your life Toujours. She maybe prissy, but it sure looks pretty.

Original Punk J said...

Hey TJ--you must be strong and withstand the Stewart temptation! There was an episode once where she was making a tray, and told her viewers to get the flowers they had pressed LAST YEAR to put under the cover or whatever.

They'd never last a year in my house. I doubt they'd last a DAY in my house!

toujours said...

i agree, anon. (i still have to steer clear of her, though, given my weakness to matched linens.)

:)

6:39 said...

No winners yet.

toujours said...

i'll do my best, j.!

although i do have a calendar from one year where i copied out a bunch of her to-do lists...like make rosehip jelly, harvest and dry rosemary...

*heh*

Anonymous said...

OMG, I simply love matched linens! And matched Tupperware containers. And crisp bedlinen. And fresh flowers. And...she just makes you go out of control ;)

ergoproxy said...

I sure did TJ they are very nice :]

Original Punk J said...

6.39, give us some hints, please?

Anon...do you need a private moment? <.<

toujours said...

aw, i wish you could send me some, ergo. :)

anon, one year i was inspired by her and made these itty bitty little fairy cakes out of a recipe of hers, i even found candied violets to top them with. they were a hit at the beltane potluck i went to. :)

Anonymous said...

*smirks* um, no J. I have regained my composure.

I bet they were Toujours. Everyone there must have been very impressed too.

ergoproxy said...

if I could wrestle them from DH and BG I would!

Original Punk J said...

Girls, I'ma gonna leave you for now, its my bedtime. It was fun talking with all of you!

Goodnight Ergo, BC, TJ, Anon/s! Sleep well.

Goodnight Mayo, hope your Sunday is pleasant and you can do something you enjoy doing.

xo jen

Goodnight J sweet dreams

toujours said...

good night j. :)

no fair ergo! tell dh and bg to stop hogging the cookies! *pouts*

thanks, anon. :)

ergoproxy said...

goodnight J sweet dreams :]

Pardon my brevity I'm on the phone

Anonymous said...

Who is DH?

Original Punk J said...

Dear SS,

Sadly, I don't have any fun drug-addict-rat-on-cheese stories for you. What could top that, anyway?

(I'd suggested that the next time, L's mum should try soaking the valium-stuffed cheese in moonshine. It'd either kill the rat, or send him on a Trip he'd never forget. ;D)

Hope you can enjoy your Sunday, too; do something relaxing and/or fun, maybe both. Kick back, drink a beer, read a book. Color some more. It'd be cool to see one of your finished coloring-book pages, if you have one. Hint hint. ;)

Goodnight, baby. I love you!

My heart to yours, always.

toujours said...

dh is ergo's husband. i believe it stands for "dangerhands".

ergoproxy said...

TJ is correct anon, that's my man! :]

Anonymous said...

Oooh. Is he a little touchy, feely ?

Fun times for Ergo then.

ergoproxy said...

no complaints from me anon!

Anonymous said...

That's right Ergo. You should only complain when they don't touch you :)

toujours said...

oops, it's definitely time to say good night. i'm a sleepy internet addict. :)

good ngiht ergo, good night anon, and good night bc if you're lurking!

sweet dreams you guys. :)

ergoproxy said...

too right anon!

phew, off the phone again

so do we have any idea who
1:47
4:45
5:43 and
6:39 are?

ergoproxy said...

sweet dreams TJ, see you tomorrow

Anonymous said...

Golly gosh, have no idea.

toujours said...

mayo,

i'm okay during the day, but somewhere in the evening hours when distractions peel away i feel it again.

i'm lost and i can't hear anything. i'm not sure i belong anywhere, so even though i can't stay here, i don't really know in what direction i should head.

i'm not even sure i deserve anything, you know, like those happy, cozy homes? what if that is something i'm not meant to have?

i tried to write about this in some pretty way, but it just wouldn't cram into some little good night essay.

so this is tonight, this is the truth of it. i have happinesses, but underneath them is this.

writing this is stupid isn't it? but it's all i can find.

ok.

my apologies. i'll be better tomorrow.

good night mayo. i wish you well, every day i do, and sweet dreams through every night.

Anonymous said...

Maybe that wrinkled ol' prune joined in with the game.

ergoproxy said...

have to make it that if 24 hrs has gone past since you posted your list and no one has guessed then you fess up

ergoproxy said...

ok maybe Mayo could be 6:39

Anonymous said...

Could be Ergo.

An old man needs some fun too.

You know, before senility sets in ^_^

ergoproxy said...

lol anon, I think you're right, I can see him grooving around in his slippers and dressing gown to "sexyback" as he makes his night-time warm milk

elena said...

Mayo

Just popping in to tell you goodnight. Mr Elena just called to wake me up and tell me to take my pills so here I am. I didn't take the pain pill because right now I'm painfree. We will see how this goes.

Hope you had a wonderful day and I hope tomorrow finds you healthy and happy.

Take care

Night Mayo

Elena

ergoproxy said...

hey elena, glad you are pain free at least for a whole, hope it is less each day

ergoproxy said...

whole = while *sheesh*

Good very early morning or late night to Mayo, SS, Sweetcheeks, L, J, Ergo, Elena, Amy, Martha, TJ, MissT, Anima, Possum, SC, KI, MS anon, 1:47, 5:43, 6:39 and all other spinnin', shufflin' and hustlin' folks!

I shall end the suspense ~ right now. Yes, I was 4:45 anonymoose! I know. That was almost too difficult to guess, wasn't it?!

;)

Excellent detective work (and/or memory skills): 8:08, Ergo and Sweetcheeks/BC!!!

As for our remaining music shufflin' anons, I'm going to post four guesses for each (and probably will not get one correct)!

1:47 ~ Amy, 7, Mayo, SS

5:43 ~ Amy, 7, Mayo, SS

6:39 ~ Amy, 7, Mayo, SS

:P

I did not guess anyone who has signed in and posted since 1:47.
Ergo, Elena, TJ, Sweetcheeks, KI, MS anon: Ya'll would have 'confessed' if one of you had posted your list, correct?!

~~~~~616,
Oh no, what happened to Miss Bingles Bunny? =(
~~~~~

Possum: My little Miss Bingles Bunny has hopped off to those great green meadows, hills and fields of the afterlife (aka: Heaven). She was pretty old for a little dwarf bunny. She was nearly nine; but, I thought/hoped she still had a lot of 'hop' left in her. She was such a precious, fussy little thing!

L: I'm okay, thank for asking! Thanks (also) for sharing that 'rat on valium' story! LOL!!! Your mom will have the most relaxed, chilled rat in the neighbhor hood! Of course, that rat may now look at your mom as his 'dealer'. He'll find another way to get into the house. Just you wait and see! Tell your mom NEVER give away the good stuff! They'll just keep coming back for more. Try some over the counter stuff next time!

Elena: I hope you feel better soon! When is your (ouch) root canal scheduled?

Sweetcheeks: Where have you been? It must be getting pretty darn cold up around Chicago! Bundle up, Sweetcheeks!

Ergo: I love Ace Of Cakes!!!! Of course, I don't think I could bring myself to actually eat those cakes. They're too gorgeous! I loved the Poe themed cake and that carousel they did. The amount of detail and the intricate designs... all the work! I think I would have to find a way to 'preserve' those cakes!

J: Did I tell you how good it is to see you back a chattin'? Well, it is!

TJ: I hope today is much better for you!

I think that is all, for now. Goodnight, everyone! Sweet dreams to one and all!

Hugs and Love,
~Namaste~
6/Wendy

Hi PJ, BI, EM, Miranth, Redrum, Oranges anon, DA, Wish, It's Me and NO!

Anonymous said...

Aha! I knew I got the 4:45 answer right sugarplum. I hope you're well. Sorry to hear about Miss Bingles Bunny. Are you doing okay? *hugs*

Well actually, it's been kinda pleasant here the last couple of days, and today will be nice, but this week we expect colder temps and maybe snow. Oh well, I was born and bred here, I'm used to it.

Take care sugarplum *blows kisses*

And goodnight to anyone else about. Goodnight ergo.
