I need to borrow this I don't have much time.

10:57pm

Tell me about a memorable dinner you have had? No...on second thought, I don't want to hear about the entire meal...just describe the appetizer. I will imagine the rest. It is more fun that way.

p.s. no insights today just retort a fucking headache and my only defense to make amends with future earnest offerings.

Good evening, Mayo

Allez venez! Milord

Mayo, if it's you, whoever you are,
everyone fails but there is a huge difference between failing and being a failure.
No one is perfect and anyone who pretends they are will end up exhausted from the effort, and then that becomes just one more thing they fail at.
If you accept your faults you become a better human being, and can accept others, with their faults.

Martha Smith-Jones said...

I know what you mean SDock10 I have a hard time opening up to those around me, I even have a hard time here. But some how I am able to do it.

I have no words that I can give you to make you feel better. I have my days when I am like you. All I can do is wait to see what the next day will bring and hope that it will get better. Or I just come here and hang around with you guys.

hey kapunua, i went all secret agent over to lj today to find out what the line-up was. here's the list i compiled:
leathermouth (of course!), the color fred, saves the day, new amsterdams, anathallo, single file, color revolt, and one or two other smaller bands, no one could remember the names of.

pretty cool, huh? :)

XD

Anonymous said...

Yo TJ! I've just got here, do you know if SS was right about all those bands. I haven't heard anything at all. Not that I doubt you SS, I would just really, really like to hear what bands played so I can compare them to the bands I wrote on my list from the fox/zombie story.

Martha Smith-Jones said...

To Mayo did you ever stop to think that constantly moving could cause failure also. At least if YOU stop it can be on your own terms. If you keep moving you never know what you may have missed.

thanks TJ, so we knew about saves the day, the new amsterdams and the color fred cos they were plastered everywhere. Hang on, I will get my list. BTW does anyone else think it's kinda modest that Leathermouth didn't feature in SS's story?

Martha Smith-Jones said...

Hello to all who have just entered and hello SS.

Martha Smith-Jones said...

I think that would have made the story way to easy for us. I think SS enjoyed seeing how are minds work.

That is pretty modest.

OK the bands that were advertised as playing were

the color fred
the new amsterdams

the ones from the story were

single file
anathallo

I think he wrote the story cos a lot of angry anon people (and purple unicorns)were doubting him. I mean, these bands are so unknown that people have trouble remembering then even AFTER the show! LOL. I'm sorry but there is no way he could have known that much detail. Not that I ever thought you were a bored 14 yr old girl SS!

Anonymous said...

I am afraid to stop moving, because if I do I will collapse into reality. And what frightens me the most about that is…I will find failure.

Sure, sweetheart. If "peace" ="failure."

Lookit. Reality? It's great if you give it a chance.. There are fun people to be with, good music to hear, awesome food to eat, great books to read. Great movies to watch. There's ice cream and jasmine and the Orionids. There's Halloween and dancing and convicts doing "Thriller." There's the magic of biology and diversity, walks through cemeteries, quantum physics and the mysterious "theory of everything" that even Einstein couldn't put his finger on. There's Jackie Chan and Leonard Cohen and Nick Cave, there's Leathermouth and Star Wars and Blade Of The Immortal.

I seriously could go on all night, but I have to bail. Just, whoever you are, give it a chance, huh?

Trust me, SS did not spend time writing a story to convince the skeptics among you. I doubt he feels the need to prove anything at all. It is in his own interest to maintain an element of reasonable doubt and for people to continue to dispute and question his identity.

He did say that he wanted you to have fun with his story and I have a feeling he was psyched to see just how much fun you all had! Some amazing (and amusing) detective skills were displayed. The way everyone embraced the challenge with enthusiasm and determination was impressive, but it was the sharp wit, humor, camaraderie and teamwork that really made his day.

The story was written as a gesture of goodwill, an affirmation to those who do believe and have faith. By definition, faith is holding a belief that does not rest on logical proof or material evidence. He knows how hard it can be to keep the faith when those around you seem hellbent on destroying it. I have no doubt in my mind he is blown away by your unwavering support and loyalty and wanted to return the favor and show his appreciation. I think he just gave the discerning among you a nod and a wink!

Hey guys, Mayo!

Just caught up, I think.

Headache....is something weighing heavy on it?
Make amends with future earnest offerings: re-building a friendship???? It's worth it!

Your not talking about sex are you, it's that initial feeling isn't, when you feel invincible because you are loved. That feeling that there is only the two of you in the world and no-one else matters;you are no longer alone!

I long for that;dream about it!

We all stumble and fall, sweetie! It's by picking ourselves back that we learn and grow. We are all only human, but if you stay true to yourself and those you love, how can it be failure?

Misst:

I totally respect your opinions on the alcohol/addiction thing. I had similar views myself once!
That is until I realised my dad is an alcoholic. Has been a functioning one for many years; in hindsight I can see it!

Is non-functioning now, don't think he will be around too much longer.

I have wished he had cancer or something similar and was not destroying himself, 'cos I think I could deal with that better!

There, that is one of my secrets! Only those close to me know that 'cos I'm afraid people may judge him! (Second secret!)

He does battle everyday... with the demons he seeks to suppress, with himself, with life!

He is still my hero!

Third and Fourth secrets; very similar to sistermidnite, except it was six years and I should've got out sooner!

SS: Thankyou, you are a true gentleman! Nod and a wink back! And a kiss too; on the cheek, of course!

Anonymous said...

I understand your fear. When you suffer from chronic anxiety you need constant stimulation to avoid this gnawing fear. And facing reality can trigger those empty, despairing feelings again.

And your fear of failure may always lurk below the surface because you cannot control everything that surrounds you.

However, you need to stop, take a deep breath and REALLY THINK before making life changing decisions. Please try not to make future ones based on avoiding fearful emotions.

This is a story like a scar. Like flesh knitting together to close and heal the wound. Once upon a time there was a zombie called Leonard. If you ignored the stench of his rotting gangrenous flesh and the fact that one side of his face was falling off, you would soon realize that Leonard was a really great guy. He was 74 years old, he was smart, kind and funny and he had the same appreciation and lust for life that he had when he was 20.

One sunny October morning, Leonard was taking a walk, contemplating whether or not to grab a coffee from Starbucks on the way home. Coffee was Leonard's only vice and he wondered if he had already had too much caffeine that morning. 'How much is too much?' he pondered as he thoughtfully stroked his chin and ignored the small chunk of green flesh that came off in his hand. He was walking past an old abandoned factory when something caught his attention. Up ahead he saw a large house with an overgrown garden and there was something moving in the long grass. He cautiously approached and saw a fox in the garden. The fox sensed his presence and looked up at him. The fox made eye contact with Leonard for a few moments before tilting his head to one side and saying 'Hey dude! 'Sup?'

Leonard gasped as his jaw dropped in disbelief. 'My name is Fred' said the fox nonchalantly. 'What's your name, dude?' Leonard hesistated for a moment before responding. 'Leonard....my name is Leonard.' The fox moved closer. 'Pleased to meet you, Leonard' he beamed, exposing a toothy grin. 'Do you live here?' Leonard asked the fox. 'No, I live at the cemetary with my wife and cubs. Our homes are graves.' Leonard could not believe what was happening. 'Aren't you afraid of me?' he asked in surprise. 'Why would I be afraid of you, dude? And please, call me Fred - my name is Fred!' the fox replied. 'But...' he stuttered 'but...look at me...I'm a zombie...I'm grotesque....just look at my skin....' Leonard trailed off, his voice filled with despair.

Fred gave him a quizzical look. 'Whats wrong with your skin?' he asked, genuinely unable to see why Leonard was so distressed. 'What's wrong with it?' he exclaimed in dismay. 'It's falling off everywhere, that's what's wrong with it!!! It's rotten.... and it smells......and the color, Fred, look at the color - who has green skin?' Leonard slumped to the grass and held his head in his hands as he started to sob. 'Hey, I know a lot of frogs that would kill to have skin the same shade as yours.' quipped Fred. Leonard looked up at him and choking back his tears he said 'I wish I wasnt a zombie Fred, I get so lonely.' Fred rested his head on Leonards lap and looked up at him with big brown eyes. 'Leonard, you are unique. So you're a zombie, so what? Stay what you are. This is a giant floating world and every person is put on this Earth for a reason. So, whaddya say? No more sad face?' 'No more sad face.' replied Leonard, a smile breaking out across his tear stained face. With that, Fred jumped up, gave him a wink and before Leonard had time to thank the fox or even say goodbye he had disappeared through a hole in the fence. As Leonard walked home, he replayed the mornings events over and over again in his mind and made a mental note to switch to decaff.

Anon at 5:28, I really thought the first part was so right on. If the guys didn't show, I am sure it was a tough decision. Maybe they wanted Frank to have his night and knew their presence would distract from Leathermouth. If that is the case, then I am sure the guys felt sad not seeing him.

by 8 Stops 7
album: In Moderation (1999)
Ever since I was a child
You always said that I should understand the rules
You take some and give less
Sit high above the rest...don't you

As I ask a simple question
Cuts me off with his reply
He's been practicing for decades
Now he thinks I have the time
He flows in and out of riddles
Looking me straight in the eye
But it seems like something's missing
From the days when he was more my size

Chorus:
Ten years older and I've finally found my pride
This old man comes rolling home to die
Old feelings make it hard to decide
Just what it means to me

Everything exists 'tween black and white
You can twist and distort the most blatant of lies
Or just offer up solutions
Practiced only in your mind
I lost half my life to wisdom
So forgive me if I

Come off sounding bitter
If my words push you away
If I seem surprised to see you
Lying here in front of me
Just consider what you're asking
And give me a little time
I'm still having trouble breathing
Cuz up to now I've never seen you cry

(Chorus)

No son of mine Should I be sleeping
No son of mine As if you never understood
That I don't need your help
Don't have to save me from myself
Or take me out to prove
That I should live my life like you

As I ask a simple question
Cuts me off with his reply
He's been practicing for decades
But I am listening this time
He flows in and out of riddles
Stories change without the wine
But at least he seems much clearer on
How it feels to be my size

(Chorus)

Ten years older and I've finally found my pride
This old man comes rolling home to die
Old feelings make it hard to decide
Just what it means to me
What it means to me
What it means to me
What it means to me

This probably has nothing to do with the story but I googled how much is to much and this is one of the results: Caffeine: How much is too much? - MayoClinic.com

And to think I wasnt even going to give you a clue! It seems I can't say no to you guys!

This is your third and final clue:

All things in moderation?

^Hang on! You only gave us 2 clues, not 3.

1. question everything
2. all things in moderation

anima said...

MJ, that is too funny!

MissTottenham said...

Those song lyrics are the song question everything.

Entropy said...

Maybe the random seed was a clue.

MissTottenham said...

Anonymous, did I find the right song?

Any true manc is blue!!!Ha Ha!

Actually, not a football follower!
Match days irritate 'cos it takes me three times as long to get to the gym!

We had a works xmas due at Man City last year and one of my colleagues husbands refused to go as he could not bring himself to cross the threshold.

My sister is avid Arsenal.

anima said...

He gave three. "Plant the seed" might be one.

Martha Smith-Jones said...

Thank you.

Entropy said...

Ok,so is it the song? That has to do with the story?

Anonymous said...

so we think the question is how much is too much, cos it is a) a question and b) fits with all things in moderation clue.

How are there 3 clues? I am lost again.

MissTottenham said...

Arsenal Boooooooo!

I had to go to a do at the Sheffield Wednesday ground last year. Although I'm spurs I'm from Sheffield and I can't stand Wednesday. Crossing the threshold just felt wrong.

Anonymous said...

thanks entropy and TJ I totally missed the random seed clue.

anima said...

Now, I'm confused. DG, I do not understand what you just wrote. Am I really that tired or just stupid?

MissTottenham said...

relates to the story. It's past midnight here and my brain isn't up to that.

Fimble Star said...

dei gratia said...

Ha Ha!...sorry guys, knew that would stir you up!

It is something I am frequently told; only by city fans though, I must admit!

Fimble Star said...

Where did 'how much is to much' come from?
wasn't the clue 'question everything'?

dei gratia said...

Yeah....just stirring up some soccer banter!

Goodnight all!

MissTottenham said...

Anima, yes its football.

Fs, When you see that players go down, don't you wnat to be the one who runs on to apply the magic sponge to the groin ha!

Martha Smith-Jones said...

One of the clues from SS was about moderation. So I went back to read the story

Coffee was Leonard's only vice and he wondered if he had already had too much caffeine that morning. 'How much is too much?' he pondered as he thoughtfully

anima said...

DG, thank you. I thought I was losing my mind. Ha!

Goodnight. Sweet Dreams.

sdock10 said...

Anon,

Are you just going to leave us hanging here?

'sup with that, dude?

Entropy said...

Oh! Thanks martha.

Martha Smith-Jones said...

No problem but this Is what I got when I googled Caffeine: How much is too much? - MayoClinic.com

Fimble Star said...

Anonymous said...

wow you people sure like to investigate things.
Perhaps a career in forensic science would fit for you people

anima said...

MissT, whenever I hear "football" my mind immediately jumps to what I know as Football (which I do not enjoy whatsoever). I love soccer, always have, but I do not know the names of teams. I watch a lot of college soccer, not a lot of pro.

sdock10 said...

Yes, we are going to work on cold case files as our next project.

sdock10 said...

Beats self analyzing any day of the week...don't ya think?

MissTottenham said...

Anima, as you don't like football, you won't be offended if I say this.

My nickname for American football is gay rugby. Cos it's similar tou our rugby game but we don't wear all the (not the face) padding ha!

Entropy said...

So when you said "question everything" you meant the questions in the story?
(if so i was on the right track,ha)
'Cuase you wanted us to see the question"how much is to much?" to lead us to that band?
Was that band also at the show?

Am I getting it?
C'mon, hot or cold here?
anyone can answer.

Anonymous said...

you are all making me blush!

I think it was sdock10 that came up with the question 'how much is too much?' and entropy and TJ that pointed out the random seed clue which I totally missed first time round. I googled it and got the band 'death in the park' and it said they are a new up and coming band so I strongly suspect they played at the gig on Saturday.

I get such a rush from this!

sdock10 said...

Yeah Meese, we make a kick ass detective team!

Anonymous said...

yup entropy you are right, the question everything was so that we would look at the questions in the story. I did google them when you first suggested it but didn't get anything. Has he gone? It's gone awfully quiet.....
