guts

It is interesting when you get a fresh perspective of yourself from a new acquaintance. Even at this reasonably accomplished age, I am still able to find myself anew.

Recently, I have been fortunate to gain the friendship of an interesting character. A smart, quick-witted, young “old chap” of a guy whose creativity and open-minded ideals speak volumes for his generation. At his age I was not nearly as wise, worldly, cultured, present, or relevant as he is. Even now his intellect far exceeds my own, and his ability to perceive others astounds me. He is very deliberate with his words, often taking what seems to me to be far too long to respond to my often off-kilter banter. But always following his reflection, he delivers an astute, provocative discourse on whatever topic I had mindlessly rambled into. Seriously, the guy can talk me under the table…and that is saying something.

And I must admit he is a bit off, as well. Regardless, or perhaps in spite of those facts, I find him very interesting.

As it goes with most new friendships there is the crush period. The time where everything about the new friend is fascinating and we often try to find a bit of ourselves in our new pal. And so my new friend has attempted to find fascination in me, and has asked for the privilege (his term, not mine) of reading some of my writing. I initially waved him off, figured he would find what he wanted or give up. But, after the third very polite request, I obliged.

It is strange; I can write for an unknown audience without fear. I can put it out there for the world to read, all of it…without a second thought. Yet when I directly hand over a few poems to my new friend, I am paralyzed.

As I said, my new friend is very perceptive. So, when I stuffed a few of my poems in his hand and continued on about the weather, he immediately detected my insecurity. He saw in my rushed speech and downcast eyes that I was nervous. And while I waited for him to speak, to interrupt my prattle, I reeled. He placed the pages face down on the table, then said “Ah yes, I see I was correct. You are an exhibitionist and shy, both.”

Which really put me to thought…what purpose am I serving with these characteristics, if characteristics do in fact serve us?

I suppose that those opposing characteristics, that in my case are so apparently extreme, benefit each other. I can only imagine that my unchecked exhibitionism would undoubtedly lead me to my depraved end, and that my need to slap the world in the face keeps me from becoming a total shut-in.

p.s. what you got in you; what it takes.

Bunch of drama queens pretending not to be so that they can impress two pretend rock stars who don't even read anymore.

I was a little bit offended by that anon because I'm not trying to impress anyone let alone two rock stars! I mean, come on, do you or anyone else here think that a rock star would be impressed by what I have to say here? No. I don't think they'd give a toss about a mad Welsh girl that lives deep in the hills of Snowdonia.

good morning!

hey welshie, I double check doors all the time, same thing, remember locking it, but maybe I somehow unlocked it when I checked it, or am remembering checking it yesterday not today.
I get back up otherwise I'll lie there wondering.
That is awful about the girl, we had a child abducted and murdered, not near us in a totally different part of the country, but I know so many people who kept waking up to check their kids afterwards. Have the caught the person who did it? They got the one here, he knew the family, as they so often do.
things like that prey so heavily on your mind.

and once again, in case "you all" missed it, I do not post as an anon, is that clear enough?

Now now Ergoproxy. Don't look at Mayo & SS in that tone of voice.

You say anon like it's a dirty word.

Don't judge an entire group of people by a few.

7:03 I'm sure those I'm referring to know who they are, in case it wasn't clear enough, I am referring to those anons who consistently accuse "you blues" of "signing out and posting as anons" or any other way they choose to insinuate that.
If Mayo or SS have ever considered it possible, I'm sure it is clear to them as well.
And to anyone else.
Anyone who hasn't ever been involved in that type of comment can rest assured it is not referring to them.
I hope that is enough clarification.

Did I miss it, or did no one comment on Warhol for the arty anon?

Alright then, I feel he was both a rare visonary artist & a trashy capitalist. I believe he was taking the piss on society with his "pop" art. But that's just one uneducated opinion. He could have been either a genius or an absolute tool for all I know. But I sure liked his wallpaper. :) Thanks for the stimulation other anon! Goodnight ladies!

I don't believe you personally, but then I don't care either. Just pointing it out.

Thanks for the four opinions on Andy Warhol. I see a consesus. I agree with the consesus.

I think Warhol was both a true artist and a trashy mass production artist. A genuine talent who felt no shame in persuing fame and fortune. A genius. A master manipulator of the ordinary who delighted in the extraordinary.

He had no qualms about "shock art". If his use of soup cans as an aesthetically pleasing subject, deserving the title of masterpiece, weren't proof enough of that his voyeuristic films certainly are.

Blowjob anyone?

It's not even eyebrow raising worthy now. But when the film debuted it was considered very shocking.

i just had the weirdest sensation: i closed my eyes while waiting for the page to load (because i'm tired and it takes a l-o-o-o-o-o-n-g time to load), and there were eyes in my head, open eyes watching me, from inside my head!

freaky.

i must be more tired than i thought...

i hope.

anyway, hello everyone. :)

i found some awesome new sites tonight. i've recently become addicted to the artist thalia took -- i just go to her site and look through her illustrations, over and over and over. so much beauty. ♥

and tonight i checked out her links page. awesome stuff! something called artmagick.com, which is basically pre-raphaelite stuff and lots of poetry, another that is all illustrations from early-century fairy tales, from artists like kay neilsen! oh man.

happy little surfer am i. :)

Please excuse me now. I worked up an appetite typing my Warhol analysis.

oh hey hi, artsy anon. :)

i think he might have had o.c.d, a little. i remember reading his autobiograpy and thinking that there was something a little off-kilter about him.

ergoproxy said...

hi TJ, hi Artsy

bye artsy enjoy your dessert

Kay Nielsen is wonderful, that sort of incredible detail is something I love. I have a book on faeries with the most gorgeous illustrations, the one of the selkie is so fluid and graceful but still otherworldly, it would be one of my favourites.

ergoproxy said...

The artists are Brian and Wendy Froud here, they worked on Dark Crystal and Labyrith as well
and Alan Lee his Tolkien works

ergoproxy said...

sorry, Asrai not selkie, it's on the same page, I just checked

toujours said...

ooh i love the frouds! you really feel like they aren't making fantasy paintings, you know? it's almost like brian froud is painting from life.

and coooool, alan lee pics! his stuff is so amazing, it really reminds me of the illustrations i loved as a kid. i've always been a sucker for fairy tales. :)

thanks for the links ergo!

It is a fabulous book, I have had it since it first came out in '78, it is jast called Faeries, it's quite a well known book if you ever find it.

I am really good, busy afternoon though, I'm just cooking some bread and some fruit buns before I head off. We are having minestrone for dinner and I thought crusty bread would go perfectly. We have the Wii until tomorrow afternoon, I have defeated the Roc on Donkey Kong too, :]

how are you?

i know that book very well! i might have checked it out from my library as a kid, just once or twice. *grin*

it sounds like you've enjoyed the wii. i'd love to be able to play my playstation again.

mornin'

artsy anon I loved your comment about Warhol. Makes me a bit embarrassed about my comment though, "um yeah it was sort of ok". Sorry 'bout that:(

Ergo, thank you, thank you for the link to Brian and Wendy Froud. I loved it, loved it. It's just the type of thing I like:)

You and TJ mentioned Kay Nielsen. I remember some time ago on this blog someone posted a link to his work. Oh my god I was just mesmerized, mesmerized I tell you! I've just had a quick peek again this morning, and I so love 'The Deliverence of the three Princesses', it makes me think of me and my two sisters. I'm the one on the end looking away:)
Oh and I loved 'Scheherazade and the Sultan'/Arabian Nights. I loved the strong colours:)

I think that the same anon also posted a link to Gustave Dore. I might be wrong, could've been someone else, but I loved the site. I remember saving a few of the prints 'cos I liked them so much. One was of the grim reaper sitting on top of the world and I also remember liking the castle in Camelot.

I remember as a child having to eat boxes and boxes of cereal so I could collect the coupons to get an illustrated book of Fairies. I loved that book and would spend hours just looking at the pictures. I so wanted to be a fairy, a little welsh fairy:)
I think my mum was quite pleased because up until then I'd been fascinated by the pictures in a book called Tombs, Graves and Mummies!!!

Bloody 'ell I've gone all arty farty on you all. Who'd 'ave bloody thought eh? hahaha.

I guess artsy anon it just goes to show that you don't really have to know anything about art to be able to appreciate it:)

3 Dustbin Men, the driver and two other men, are going on their rounds asking for christmas bonuses which they do yearly.
They stop at the first house and one man runs in and a women gives him £5. They move on to another house and a bloke gives him £6.
They pull up to the next house and the man runs in knocks on the door and a women answers and says "oh yes..come upstairs with me"..without reply he goes up and she gives him a good shagging! Once they are finished she says now go and get your mate and tell him to come in for his 'bonus'. He goes out, tells his mate "go in get your bonus, she'll show you a bloody good time, one hell of a bonus!" He goes in, she shows him upstairs and true to her word he gets a good fuck.
When their finished she says "go and get your driver and send him in for his bonus", off he goes and says to the driver- "driver its your turn now, go on my son its one hell of a christmas bonus" so of he goes. He steps in the door very excited and instead of taking him upstairs she takes reaches for her purse and pulls out £5 and gives it to him. He says "what the hell is this, you give my two friends the time of their life and you give me this?!"
She turns round and explains "I had strict instructions from my husband, he said 'give a fiver (£5) to the driver and fuck the other two!!!'"

At an art exhibition two women were staring at a painting entitled, "Home for Lunch".
The painting was of three very naked, and very black men, sitting on a park bench. What was unusual was that the men on both ends of the bench had black penises, but the man in the middle had a very pink penis. The two women were standing there, staring at the picture, scratching their heads and trying to figure this out. The artist walked by and noticed the women's confusion. "Can I help you with this painting?" he asked.
"Well, yes" said the one woman. "We were curious about the picture of the black men on the bench. Why does the man in the middle have a pink penis?"
"Oh," said the artist. "I'm afraid you've misunderstood the painting. The three men are not African-Americans, they're coal miners, and the fellow in the middle went "Home for Lunch."
lotsa love EP xx

Hello Mayo, SS, Amy, Ergo, TJ, Welshie, Elena?, art enthusiasts, everyone!

How are you all? Well and good, I hope!

Ergo: What's this about a puppy? Awww... I love puppies!!!

MissT: How's it going, lady? Handcuffed any prospects... umm, I mean suspects, yet?

;)

That really is an interesting and informative little film.

What's really disturbing is how the propaganda machine is still alive and well today (and working overtime).

How long before tobacco is illegalized? How long before another "class of criminals" are born overnight?

Smokers of tobacco are already treated as second class citizens.

There is too much control done under the guise of public health and welfare.

Much too much control.

Well, I think there is! This new "open container" law in Louisiana is a pain in the arse!

Do you know how difficult it is to get someone (the passenger friend), from the NOLA area, to put their drink down before getting in the car? It's darn near impossible and only leads to loitering!

Which then could, very well, lead to parking lot arguments which may lead to fights!

Which could lead to trips to the emergency room and jail. Costing the tax payers of Louisiana hundreds of thousands (maybe even millions) of dollars.

The LA legislature really should have thought this new law and the ramifications through just a little bit more.

:P

We shall see how our first JAZZ FEST season goes over with this new "open container" law. Ummm, hmmm.

Well, I suppose that is my "freedom of expression/freedom of choice and power to people" rant for today! I hope you all enjoyed it (whether you argee or not).

Have a great day, everyone!!!

Hugs and Love,
~Namaste~

One more thing, JAZZ FEST: YAY!!!!

~~The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival

Mahalia Jackson, often called the greatest gospel singer, returned to her hometown to appear at the first New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival in April of 1970. While attending the Louisiana Heritage Fair in Congo Square (then known as Beauregard Square), she and Duke Ellington, who also appeared at the event, came upon the Eureka Brass Band leading a crowd of second-line revelers through the Festival grounds. George Wein, producer of the Festival, handed Ms. Jackson a microphone, she sang along with the band and joined the parade…and the spirit of Jazz Fest was born.

This spontaneous, momentous scene—this meeting of jazz and heritage—has stood for decades since as a stirring symbol of the authenticity of the celebration that was destined to become a cultural force.
~~

And so The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival was born!

You can hardly see
The manner of matter that splits with the words I breathe
And as the rain drips acidic questions around me
I block out the sight and the powers that be

I wind up in a rusted world with eyes shut so tight that it blurs into the world of pretend
And the eyes ease open
And it’s dark again

At the core I’ve forgotten
In the middle of my thoughts
Taken far from my safety
The picture’s there
The memory won’t escape me
But why should I care?

In the memory you’ll find me
Eyes burning up
The darkness holding me tightly
Until the sun rises up

Listen to the sound
Dizzy from the ups and downs
I’m nauseated by the polluted rot that’s all around
Watching the wheels of cars that pass
I look past to the last of the light and the long shadows it casts
A window grows and captures the eye
And cries out a yellow light as it passes me by
And a young shadowy figure sits in front of a box
Inside a building of rock with antennas on top, now
Nothing can stop in this land of the pain
The sane lose not knowing they were part of the game
And while the insides change
The box stays the same and the figure inside could bear anybody’s name
The memories I keep are from a time like then
I put on my paper so I could come back to them
Someday I’m hoping to close my eyes and pretend
That this crumpled up paper can be perfect again

mayo,

a good day today, lazy and green, but now...

i came across this movie on tv tonight, started watching it just to see what it was about and got drawn in. jodie foster in the aftermath of a brutal attack, sinking into vigilantism. not an action film. violent and solemn and tense and now i can't shake the mood of it.

i'm like a sponge sometimes, i pick up the taste of a book or a film and carry it along for awhile, like a glass of water with a drop of ink. so now i have her bruises and her anger and her sorrow, and they echo mine, they call up my own, even though they aren't, even though they are nothing alike.

her voice is flavoring my thoughts. it's odd.

and it makes it difficult to want to be social, so i'm thinking it's best that i make my good night to you now, and find some art to look at, or music to listen to, to clear my spirit and bring back my own voice.

good night, mayo.

you are also missed.

'calm down Welshie, calm down'

Ok now I'm officially worried about Elena:(
Let us know if you're ok luv.

Can I just thank the anon who posted the videos of The Dead Weather. I'm bloody lovin' it!
Ta very much!

TJ I never watch films. I just don't enjoy them:( I can't sit still for a couple of hours and just lose myself in a film. If there's ever a sad part I just keep saying to myself "they're acting, it's not real, just acting", or I tend to visualise the actors standing there with scripts in their hands acting out a scene. God I wish I could stop myself sometimes and just enjoy the bloody thing!!!
And yet I can sit on my stone at the bottom of my garden for hours and hours on end just imagining how different my life could be. Sometimes I visualise myself travelling alone across the world visiting places I'll never get to see in real life; the Pyramids, the Taj Mahal, the great Wall of
China. Other times I just visualise my mam and dad still being alive and what sort of relationship we'd have. What they'd even look like now. Would I be a different person if they'd been around when I was growing up?
I lie there making stories up in my head that I'm the Welsh Lara Croft and I end up going on dangerous missions you know!!
Aahh I love that stone, it's magical you know!

Hahaha! Lara Croft? Me? hahaha!

One day a blonde was driving on the highway and got pulled over by a cop. The cop said "Why do you keep swerving?" The blonde replied "I turn one way and there's a tree, I turn again there's a tree, and then there's a whole bunch more trees popping out of nowhere." The cop replied "Ma'am I think you'll find that's your air freshener."

Two friends, a blonde and a redhead, are walking down the
street and pass a flower shop where the redhead happens to
see her boyfriend buying flowers.
She sighs and says, "Oh, crap, my boyfriend is buying me
flowers again."
The blonde looks quizzically at her and says, "What's the
big deal, don't you like getting flowers?"
The red head says, "Oh sure, but he always has expectations
after giving me flowers, and I just don't feel like spending
the next three days on my back with my legs in the air."
The blonde says, "Don't you have a vase?"

It's just a matter of time a few days ago
I saw you, you were fine
Remembering what you said
About the book you read
The one I got you
The Beginning of the End
Oh how we'd talk
For hours upon end
What I would give
Just to do it again
But you're lying there
In this hospital bed
Won't you open your eyes
And let's talk once again

If you fly away tonight
I want to tell you that I love you
I hope that you can hear me
I hope that you can feel me
If you fly away tonight
I want to tell you that I'm sorry
That I never told you
When we were face to face

Well I've been here all night
And I'm watching you
Breathe in and breathe out
Is it really you
Or just a machine
That's giving you life
And it's making it seem
That there could be hope
I could say to your face
If it weren't for you
That there would be no grace
That's covered my life
You took the time
To speak into my mind
And my heart
Words of life

So goodbye for now
And I'll see you again
Some way, somehow
When it's my time to go
to the other side
I'll hold you again
And melt at your smile
Now all I have
Are the ones that I'm with
And you taught me not
To take for granted
The time that we have
To show that we care
Speak into their minds
And their hearts
While they're here
And say I love you

It's up to them to floss or not.

Sometimes it's an act of kindness to tell someone just because a person says hello or makes small talk with you, that doesn't mean they want to fuck or marry you.

It's called being sociable. It's called be raised right.

All my little plans and schemes,
lost like some forgotten dreams.
Seems that all I really was doing
was waitin' for you.

Just like little girls and boys,
playing with their little toys.
Seems like all we really were doing
was waitin' for love.

Don't need to be alone,
No need to be alone.

It's real love, it's real,
Yes it's real love, it's real.

From this moment on I know,
exactly where my life will go.
Seems that all I really was doing
was waitin' for love.

Don't need to be afraid,
No need to be afraid.

It's real love, it's real,
Yes it's real love, it's real.

Thought I'd been in love before,
but in my heart I wanted more.
Seems like all I really was doing
was waitin' for you.

Don't to be alone,
No need to be alone.

It's real love, yeah it's real,
It's real love, it's real,
Yes, it's real love, it's real,
It's real love, it's real,
Yes it's real love, it's real,

No, I don't miss everyone who left. The difference is if someone else came in and said they missed someone, I would have the common curtosy to not come in and say, "Well, I sure don't miss them". There is no need for that. As you say, that is not acceptable.

A young blonde woman is distraught because she fears her husband is having an affair, so she goes to a gun shop and buys a handgun.
The next day she comes home to find her husband in bed with a beautiful redhead. She grabs the gun and holds it to her own head.

Don't corner me

Raise your hands you're a sinner

Is this everything you wanted

You never hear a word I say

So pray
