guts

It is interesting when you get a fresh perspective of yourself from a new acquaintance. Even at this reasonably accomplished age, I am still able to find myself anew.

Recently, I have been fortunate to gain the friendship of an interesting character. A smart, quick-witted, young “old chap” of a guy whose creativity and open-minded ideals speak volumes for his generation. At his age I was not nearly as wise, worldly, cultured, present, or relevant as he is. Even now his intellect far exceeds my own, and his ability to perceive others astounds me. He is very deliberate with his words, often taking what seems to me to be far too long to respond to my often off-kilter banter. But always following his reflection, he delivers an astute, provocative discourse on whatever topic I had mindlessly rambled into. Seriously, the guy can talk me under the table…and that is saying something.

And I must admit he is a bit off, as well. Regardless, or perhaps in spite of those facts, I find him very interesting.

As it goes with most new friendships there is the crush period. The time where everything about the new friend is fascinating and we often try to find a bit of ourselves in our new pal. And so my new friend has attempted to find fascination in me, and has asked for the privilege (his term, not mine) of reading some of my writing. I initially waved him off, figured he would find what he wanted or give up. But, after the third very polite request, I obliged.

It is strange; I can write for an unknown audience without fear. I can put it out there for the world to read, all of it…without a second thought. Yet when I directly hand over a few poems to my new friend, I am paralyzed.

As I said, my new friend is very perceptive. So, when I stuffed a few of my poems in his hand and continued on about the weather, he immediately detected my insecurity. He saw in my rushed speech and downcast eyes that I was nervous. And while I waited for him to speak, to interrupt my prattle, I reeled. He placed the pages face down on the table, then said “Ah yes, I see I was correct. You are an exhibitionist and shy, both.”

Which really put me to thought…what purpose am I serving with these characteristics, if characteristics do in fact serve us?

I suppose that those opposing characteristics, that in my case are so apparently extreme, benefit each other. I can only imagine that my unchecked exhibitionism would undoubtedly lead me to my depraved end, and that my need to slap the world in the face keeps me from becoming a total shut-in.

p.s. what you got in you; what it takes.

So the doctor gets him to drop his pants and takes a look.

'Incredible'he says, 'there is a £20 note lodged up here.'

Tentatively he eases the twenty out of the man's bottom, and then a £10 pound note appears.

'This is amazing!'exclaims the Doctor. ''What do you want me to do?'

'Well fur gadness sake teyhk it out, man! 'shrieks the patient.

The doctor pulls out the tenner and another twenty appears, and another and another and another, etc.....

Finally the last note comes out and no more appear.

'Ah Dactor, tank ya koindly, dat's moch batter. Just out of interest, how moch was in dare den?'

The Doctor counts the pile of cash and says '£1,990 exactly.'

i used to know some pagans back in seattle who celebrated the 17th as the dionysus' day (apparently, it actually is). they'd still dress in green, but with purple added, and they'd party it up with wine instead of green beer.

still got completely drunk, though. *heh*

At the shop and just got finished watching "Grand Torino". Damn that was a good movie. Now Mr E is making me a hot dog. While life isn't all that great right now there are times like this when you realize that it might eventually be okay. Then again, maybe not. LOL

Oh well that sums up life in a nutshell, doesn't it?

Hope life is treating you well, Mayo. I really do.

enjoy dinner elena, sounds like a nice way to wind down

we are still under threat, TJ it's a long way off the coast but tracking is predicting it may hit somewhere around us or south of us on the weekend. Problem is they are so unpredictable, we are getting gusty winds though as it's a big system. Poor Fiji just got slammed by one yesterday, they formed together that one a bit further east than the one heading our way. Getting prepared but you can't do a lot at this point but keep watching for what it does, it's a 4 (highest is 5) so it's a concern, wherever it crosses if it does and at that strength won't be good.

mayo,

didn't get to sleep until about 3 am last night, so i'm actually well past ready for sleep tonight. here's my newly hard-won advice: never think about your finances when you should be sleeping. mental math is not conducive to a good night's rest.

in fact, i freaked myself out enough i couldn't settle back down to sleep. i ended up putting in my headphones and laying there in dark listening to essentially an aural security blanket until i had sufficiently forgotten the trauma.

but still, getting back on my feet is going to be hard. there's no way around it.

and i'm scared.

but daylight brings back a sense of determination. it doesn't reduce the fear but it makes it a little easier not to flinch, you know?

and even if i can't see very far down the road right now, i'm pretty good at believing in the impossible and the improbable. (after all, i'm still writing these good nights just as if you were still reading them...)

so, just: no budgeting in bed.

and always remember how i got to madison square garden.

(magic, remember?)

take care, mayo. hope you're doing well.

sweet (math-free) dreams.

Happy St. Patrick's Day to you all.

Ergo I loved that joke:)
I read it in my best Irish accent. So bloody funny. haha.

Thank you 'Good Night anon' for the photo. You're spoiling us:)

I have to say I'm not too keen on cats to be honest.

I always wanted a pony when I was little but my dad wouldn't let me have one:(
One day I came home from school and he gave me a cardboard box and inside it was a tiny white kitten. Well the kitten kept scratching me over and over again and I thought at the time she didn't like me and knew I was disappointed because I really wanted a pony you know!
Anyway I named her 'Winnie Jane'. Don't laugh, I was only little and didn't know that cats should have proper names like 'Tiddles' or 'Tiger'!!!
Anyway as time went on Winnie Jane and I became quite friendly.
Then one day I came home from school and I found my little Winnie Jane squashed on the road. She'd been run over by a bloody tractor!
Bloody typical just as we become friends she goes and throws herself under a tractor, not under a car mind, oh no she didn't want to just get injured and be nursed back to health by me you know, no, she wanted to die, saw the tractor and jumped, right into it's path!
As you can tell I took it rather personally and to this day I keep clear of cats, especially white ones:(

Oh my god I have to stop typing now 'cos I know I'm boring you all to death, but seeing that photo of the cat reminded me of Winnie Jane.
My fingers were possessed by the ghost of Winnie Jane, she wanted to tell her story. hahaha.

Hmm, is a bit worried about what the next photo will be. Is it going to bring back memories and I'm I going to start rambling again?

Oh anon I do like dogs though,

and ponies:)

very dramatic pic, anon. thank you, and good night. :)

ergoproxy said...

thanks anon that looks like roads I get to drive on! goodnight

Tj I find it a sipping beer, to be enjoyed slowly. Lighter ales are more for thirst quenching to me. If it's too strong try a dark ale they are a bit less intense then a full guinness style. I like Tooheys Old, but you may not find that over there it's an aussie beer

ergoproxy said...

(they may be called black ales as well)

toujours said...

i thought it looked like australia as well! :)

ergo, i'd actually like to find an ale i could drink and enjoy. i don't have much of a taste for beer as i once did (not after my mishap with german beer!), but ale is the most authentic thing for my s.c.a. persona to drink.

is it possible to find an ale that is low in hops? those weren't an ingredient until after my time period, and i find it's the hops that gives it the flavor i now dislike.

elena said...

TJ

Mr E says to try Chaucer's Mead

toujours said...

oooh, that sounds promising! i definitely will, elena, and thank mr. e for me!

ergoproxy said...

I am pretty sure wheat beers have less hops used and pale and white ales are usually less as well I think, the ones which don't have the bitterness are the less hoppier I believe, and I don't like bitter beers at all. Maybe if you try lighter coloured and in clear glass. I'm pretty sure Chimay from belgium uses less hops, and it's very nice too, not the white though it was the one I liked least, I liked the red. Also try largers they tend to be less bitter.

ergoproxy said...

I have Maxwell mead here! It is soooo yummy

found this
lower IBU apparently good indication of hoppiness

toujours said...

ok i have googled it and it's on the list. :)

there's another mead that i'd like to try, one of the labels from rabbitfoot's meadery. they get excellent reviews and are run by an s.c.a. family.

mead's not authentic for my persona, but after a sip, she doesn't much care. lol

toujours said...

oh excellent link! thanks ergo. :)

i've heard that ales with less hops are sweeter, too, which seems appealing.

ergoproxy said...

you could try the low carb beers too,they are a lighter style and I'm a big "can I have a taste" person if I'm with friends and someone has something different

toujours said...

that's a good idea, and at events there's always some brewing guy showing off his latest. i've had some very good ciders and perrys that way.

i just want something authentic for when i get back into the game. i mean, my persona is essentially a farmer's daughter from the midlands. when would she have come across whiskey or brandy?

so i have to find an ale whether i like it or not. lol

ergoproxy said...

I have never tried perry but I'd like to, I've seen it on tv, I'll have to look at whether it's available, there are lost of ciders so could be.

ergoproxy said...

and to end the evening talking about my persona, of all thngs? i don't even know if i'll ever be in a situation where i'll be able to play in the s.c.a. again...

but even though there aren't as many of us talking here as before, conversations still sometimes take (happily) weird turns.

mayo,

got online this morning and for some reason nostalgia hit hard. i've been reading old posts and comments, both here and ones i've saved.

man, i am so glad to have been a part of this! i cannot even begin to tell you how much. i'm so very grateful that you became a part of my life, even just as words on a screen.

but words that had an impact, in large ways and small.

sometimes i almost blush to read some of the things i've written -- so embarrassingly heartfelt! but nothing that i still don't mean, so what can you do? i guess i'd rather be a sincere fool than a cynical one. *grin*

and though i'm struggling all the time with fear these days, i can say honestly that i have nothing to do with any regrets, and stand by all my words, the silly ones, the sincere ones, and even the boring ones. i am who i am. i'm a mess, but somehow i just keep on going, even when i want to give up, so i guess there's hope for me yet, right?

i should really just get "tally-ho" tattooed on my wrist, and be done with it. *grin*

anyway, i have to get ready to go to work, but i just wanted to sit down here for a minute, and talk at your portrait over the mantel, like i used to.

i will always believe in the man i met here, through your words. he's a good man, and a kind man, and i think he's been learning how to be a new man, too.

i will always have faith in your ability to shine.

be happy and healthy.
be safe and strong.
be hale and whole.
be bright and blessed.

According to actor Ian McKellen, the first of the two Hobbit films will begin shooting in July.

A spokeswoman for New Line denies the start date, but McKellen claims the ball is rolling.

"Casting in Los Angeles, New York City and London has started," said the actor. "The first draft is crammed with old and new friends, again on a quest in Middle Earth. The director Guillermo del Toro is now living in Wellington, close to the Jacksons' and the studio in Miramar."

It's rumored that Peter Jackson is scrambling to finish the second script. McKellan claims that the films will take a year to make.

Wonders what God charges for blow up doll sex. Can't be more than a dollar.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
5:45 ~ Sorry it took me a little while to get back to you on that one. I had to hunt down my "costs of sin" list!
It, appears, you are correct. Sext with a blow up doll (and/or an anatomically correct device of any kind) is NOT more than a buck (a shot)!
The cost of that one IS more than masturbation; but, less than stealing a bag of chips.
$0.66!!! Not too bad. Just remember... it adds up!
;)
That was a GREAT video clip by the way!!!
Elena: It took a nice stroll along the cliffs, today. It was such a gorgeous day. I couldn't wait to get outside and enjoy the view.
The lighthouse is looking great!!!Good choice of contractors/construction workers, too!
;)
TJ: I'm glad to hear your first day of (sort of) work was a good one. Those 'orientation' days are always such a hoot!!! You're right. It's nothing more than "let's give them all a look at the new person/people".
Ergo: I hope that cyclone is staying far from you! Having to keep your eye on the waters (and what's brewing over them) is not such a hoot! That's more of a "here we go AGAIN" type of sinking feeling.
Well, I hope that cyclone justs burns itself out!
I think that is all, for now. I hope you've all enjoyed the day, so far!
Hugs and Love,
~Namaste~
Well heck! It appears to be 'add a t" day for me.
*edits:
5:45 ~ SexT with a blow up doll (or any anatomically correct device of any kind) actually cost $0.06.
Since, no diety is exactly sure what SexT is (but, it does sound sort of sinful so God does have to charge something)!
SEX with one of those aforementioned "things" is $0.66!
Elena: The IT that took a nice stroll along the cliffs would be ME (as in I)!
Okay, I think I'll be able sleep tonight since I corrected those errors.
Have a great night, everyone!!!
Hi Ergo! It sounds as though you have the hurricane (cyclone for you) preparations under control!
Do ya'll have an emergency generator? Make sure ya'll have the oil for that thing too!
(I remind you of that because I always forget about the oil.)
I hope the intensity of the cylcone slows down, greatly, before it comes ashore.
I, also, hope you and your family stay safe and suffer no property damage.
Well, I hope no one suffers any loss of life or property damage...
I must get back to my/Bre's drama now.
It seems she has made her decision in the Chris/Daniel/her triangle.
She was supposed to "come down" this weekend for Chris' initiation into his sorority. Well, that is not going to happen.
Her decision was Daniel and poor Chris will get the phone call tonight.
She's dreading this phone call; but, she knows it has to be done.
I feel so bad for Chris. He's such a good young man and I (all of us) really liked him. But, she must do what makes her happiest.
And, I've seen pictures of Daniel and may I say:
DAMNNNNNN!
:P
Okay, putting the shallowness of the moment aside...
Who knows? She and Chris have been down this road before. It still may end up being him (further down road)!
I shall let you get back to your emergency preparations and I shall get back to "nanny standby" mode.
Oh, don't forget to axe to break through the attic (if necessary)! And don't forget to put fur baby food in that attic ~ and water and you and family food, of course!
*Please disregard that entire paragraph if you do not have attics in Australia.
Stay safe, Ergo (and everyone)!!!
Just a quick hello
Ergo it is nice to know the man’s name. I’ve thought about the accident often. It just seems nice to put a name to him. My heart goes out to his family.
Wendy I am glad you enjoyed your walk today. The lighthouse is almost done and yes I must agree some of those workers are not bad on the eyes. Not that I chose them that way…LOL
TJ I loved what you wrote today. Yep I really do.
Hello everyone else. Sorry I can’t stay but I’m getting ready for the KU – K State game. Go KU !!!!!
Take care
ergoproxy said...
lol thanks wendy. I will have to disregard attic stuff, some do but we don't. Latest advice has it down to a 2 which is a lot better than a 4 but still, have to be prepared.
Shame about Bre and her predicament, but she has to make a decision and letting him know, though difficult is the right thing to do,
have a great night/day
I hope someone told them, too. Otherwise they would never know. It's hard to count to "two".
Maybe you should be the one to tell them. I'm sure they'll both want to thank you for your insight.
well i'm chair-dancing. shuffle just went from "heaven help us" to a live version of "famous last words" so i was kind of caught up in the moment.
toujours said...
that took a long time to load (computer must not like the media player tonight) but it was worth it. :)
toujours said...
...and then journey comes on lol
ergoproxy said...
oh hey TJ how are you? I have been reading a Dean Koontz book, started it yesterday and I'm hooked
toujours said...
hey ergo hi! i'm good, how are you? all battened down, just in case?
getting hooked on a book is fantastic -- when you think about it when you aren't reading it, an dcan't wait to get back to it? yeah, that's the best. :)
my recent reading jag has waned, i got hooked on the rpg i was playing, and all the books i had checked out from the library and hadn't read yet kinda lost their sparkle.
ergoproxy said...
I haven't had time to read properly for ages, no, not quite true, I've had time just not felt compelled enough, but elena sent me a great book a while ago and that has spurred me again.
I am mostly battened down, moved a lot of outside stuff. Bigger things need to wait for DH. The cyclone has weakened which is good, still a strong system but not as strong winds. Car fuelled, got groceries in case we get cut off or lose power. Feels silly doing it all as it's sunny and not even very windy, but they predict we'll feel major effects during tomorrow.
toujours said...
well, i hope the "major effects" are much less so than people expect. storm go poof please. :)
that's how it is with me too, one good book and it's like the hunger is awakened. i remember a latin phrase i always liked -- the latin escapes me atm, but the translation was "devourer of books".
ergoproxy said...
that is a perfect description, I do devour books, I just want to keep reading to find out what happens. This one is called Sole Survivor, I'm about 2/3 of the way through so it's exciting.
I hope it goes poof too, they still can't really say where it'll cross as it's too far out still, they are getting some pretty major surf on the beaches to the south though so some are happy!!
(in cyclones the southern side is the worst for winds etc apart from the area directly in it's path because of the clockwise way they rotate)
toujours said...
well as long as the surfers are happy lol
ergoproxy said...
theya re the important ones lol
sorry I take a bit to reply the net keeps wavering
Outside it is a bit eerie though as you can see the clouds moving around the edge of the rotation
toujours said...
my only excuse for delay is that i'm still chair-dancing, so i think you've got the better reason!
that must be so strange to see...i'm not used to that sort of weather. that one time a tornado came near when i was visiting elena was an eye-opener!
ergoproxy said...
chair dancing is pretty good fun, so I don't blame you!
I just finished the book, I was more 3/4 of the way through when I looked
It's just come over raining now, not heavy but I put a sweater on as it got quite cool
toujours said...
i always find that i tend to read the end of a book faster, especially if it's one i'm really into. it's like i'm reading downhill!
and now i must admit that chair-dancing is quite exhausting. so i'm going to head off for the night.
take care ergo -- i am still keeping my fingers crossed for poof!
mayo,
when i first caught up on the comments tonight, the song lyric snippet set me to thinking.
ever since i first saw "easy rider" i've wanted to just travel across the country...i used to imagine myself behind the wheel of a karmann ghia, a cat in the passenger seat, and a tape recorder for my stories.
i've had a taste of that now, in somewhat different form, and naturally, i just want more.
but these days, i mostly feel stuck, and so when those lyrics put that song in my head, the first thing i wanted to do was pack a bag and just take off. running away has so much appeal.
i have to solve this problem another way though; this isn't a gordian knot that i can escape so easily.
but i still want adventure.
it's got me to thinking about how. there's gotta be a way to be the person i was out on the road while mired here. i just have to figure it out.
yep. all that from a snippet.
take care, mayo. i hope you're well, and finding adventures of your own.
good night, and sweet dreams.
Well I feel such an idiot this morning. I've actually got up an hour too early!
I thought I'd heard the alarm, got up, showered, had breakfast and was running out of the door when I felt that something wasn't quite right you know! I never put the radio or the telly on in the morning 'cos I just get distracted.
Well I've got an hour to spare now so I've been watching the BBC News and apparantely The National Trust is employing a more 'interactive' approach to encourage more visitors to its stately homes. Great I love visiting stately homes. You can touch everything, lie on the beds, play the piano, and TJ, TJ, you can even read the books in the library!!!
Cyclone Ergo, have I missed something? I hope you and your family stay safe.
R.I.P. Jon.
Thank you for the photos 'Goodnight anon.' One of my favourite photographers is a chap called Pierino Algieri. He takes beautiful landscape photos especially of Snowdonia.
Hi Wendy:)
Hi Elena:)
Hi Mayo and S.S.:)
Hi everyone:)
Welshie said...
Hmm, isn't sure if all this National Trust touchy feely thing is just for this weekend or a permanent thing. Will have to check.
And there was me imagining myself and Miss T. dressed up as ladies having afternoon tea on the lawn, then strolling around the gardens with our parasols and finally going into the drawing room. Miss T would sing sweetly whilst I accompanied her on the piano. *sigh*
We'd be dressed up like Emily and Florence on Little Britain. Hahaha. Emily used to play left back for QPR, and Florence has a moustache.
*checks upper lip*
I guess I'll have to be Florence then. hahaha!!!
ergoproxy said...
Oh I love Little Britain!
How are you welshie? bit of a bummer getting up an hour early!
Yes we have a cyclone heading toward us, it's due to cross the coast on Sunday morning, most likely north of us but close enough to bring severe weather.
I've most prep done, taped the windows just before dark, bit of heavy stuff DH and I will do tomorrow.
But, on a different note, I'd love to visit some of those stately homes over there, they are just so beautiful, like the one in Brideshead, and all the lovely gardens.
Did you see the guys from Cornwall "Fisherman's Friend" that have got a recording deal? I thought of you and your love of welsh choirs, these guys sound wonderful, check them out if you haven't.
have a good day :]
You're right Ergo I love Welsh male voice choirs. I think it's because my dad and my taid (grandfather) were in choirs.
I knew today was going to be a bad day when I got up too early. I thought I was alone at work this morning and suddenly for whatever reason I started singing OKLAHOMA! God knows why.
And when we say, hey! a yippy-i-o-ey
We're only sayin' You're doin' fine Oklahoma,
Oklahoma, O-K-L-A-H-O-M-A,
Oklahoma.
Shit I could've died when the others walked in laughing their bloody heads off!
Can you imagine me singing that with my strong Welsh accent? Not good!
Little Britain; what can I say, HAHAHA, oh god sshh Welshie, *whispers* hahaha.
Lou and Andy; "Yeah I know"
Daffyd; "I'm the only gay in the village."
Anne; "Eh eh eeeehhhhhhhhhhhhh!"
Good Morning
Okay first off I went back and read my comment from last night before the game and yep I goofed. KU played Lehigh. I thought I’d messed up but that’s what happens when you try to do six things at once. I just wanted to get done so I could watch the game and yep, KU won!
Welshie you have given me the first giggle of the morning. I can just imagine you singing Oklahoma (see I am assuming you have an accent) Sing louder I really want to hear it!!!
Ergo please stay safe. Mr E and I have been tracking the storm and we’re hoping you don’t get any severe weather.
I was supposed to be going to Omaha this weekend on a book-buying trip but they are calling for snow. Yeah, snow. I mean it was only 64 yesterday so of course we’re supposed to get snow and up Omaha way they are supposed to get more. Now braving snow wasn’t all that bad but as Fred and I were discussing it my car overheated. I took this as a sign. And when I called Harrah’s to cancel my reservation I was shocked to hear they didn’t have a reservation for me. Don’t know what happened but I think the whole trip was cursed from the beginning. It’s okay the change in plans now means Stormy is going to take me out today for lunch and a movie.
Hope everyone has a great day.
hi welshie, nice singing!! I though Fisherman's' Friends were lozenges until the news last night as well,lol
Elena sounds like you were better not to be going on the trip for sure
Well I'm not blown away yet, done most that we really can, now waiting..glad I don't live further up where they predict it'll hit, heaps of poor tourists evacuating islands and the resorts up there, it's the big area that services the Barrier Reef. Still a 2 but with masses of rain, so that'll make a change :/
Welshie said...
Ergo I googled and then listened to Fisherman's Friend. Whey hey they're brilliant!!! .
The Cornish language is similar to Welsh. We use a lot of the same words but with slightly different spellings.
Welsh - Dydd Da. Cornish - Dydh da. Good day.
Welsh - Nos da. Cornish - Nos dha. Good night.
I'm watching Sports Relief at the moment. Annie Lennox is about to sing.
Keep safe Ergo.
ergoproxy said...
I thought you might like them, apparently they've been singing together for years, just fishermen and similar to entertain tourists, and now they ahve a record deal!
Annie Lennox has a fabulous voice too
Thanks too :]
Hi Ergo and Welshie
Well just got home from a full day with Stormy. She took me out for my birthday today since we both had time today. First we went to the Fork and Screen (lots of fun you watch the movie while they bring you food) and saw "She's Out Of My League". Then we went shopping then Stormy talked me into getting my hair cut (about 4 inches and well, now its a different color too) Not sure about it but she likes it.
New Hair
Anyway we are preparing for the 3 to 5 inches of snow headed our way. Oh joy! But Mr E and I are gonna hang at his shop and watch "The Big Lebowski" which I've never seen and "The Kentucky Fried Movie".
Ergo stay safe. I'll be thinking and worrying about you.
Take care everyone. I'll try to pop in later if I can.
Hey Mayo - Work is almost completed. Just thought you might want to know.
Welshie said...
Annie Lennox just has a presence about her doesn't she? Her voice just captivates the audience. She sang Bridge over Troubled Waters. Lovely.
A lot of Sports Stars are doing silly sketches to raise money for Sports Relief.
I have to say though that they're also showing footage of children dying of malaria in Africa. God it's heartbreaking.
I had to go and raid my piggy bank. Hey it's not much but it might help.
Welshie said...
I love, love, love your hair.
Is it your birthday today?
Well, between what we got back (there) and the tassles...
LMFAO again Wendy. You'll be the death of me.
Miranth, it was soooooooo good to see you back here. Sounds like you've had a bad time but I hope you are getting back to a happier place sweetie. You've been missed.
Elena sweetie, I saw a lighthouse on TV the other night and immediately thought if you. That made me smile.
Welshie, have I ever told you how much I love reading you here? Sometimes as I sit here at my puter talking with everyone here, knowing all the different countries you all come from, I feel like I'm in a foreign country with you all. Whenever I see you Welshie, you make me feel like home.
how are you? is the storm still poofing?
ergoproxy said...
not poofing unfortunately, probably pretty much opposite :[
toujours said...
oh yikes, not good, not good. didn't the storm get my message?
i know you're all battened down, and as safe and secure as you can get, but i'm still going to be sending you "be safe" vibes.
ergoproxy said...
It must have missed your orders TJ, thanks for the vibes, very gratefully accepted.
You wouldn't really know anything is up as yet, it's expected to cross after 1am tomorrow, which is about 10 hrs
toujours said...
waiting for a storm is always so nerve-wracking. you want to be able to do something, but there's only so much that's in your power.
ergoproxy said...
That's the thing, we've done pretty much all we can, have thought of contingency plans for during and after depending on what it does.
Elena knows the best way to get me at home, as we'll likely lose power and we have no mobile service, so I'll try to touch base with her tomorrow if I can.
The area has disaster plans and all in place as it's a normal risk, so we are all kept very informed, plus everyone looks out for each other.
All we can do is wait now.
so otherwise, how are you? Been having a good week?
toujours said...
here's hoping none of the plans will be needed!
as for me, it's been a busy week, that's for sure. i still can't figure out if i like this job yet or not. i've never felt so conflicted about one before. it's very confusing.
the work itself is going alright. it's basic stuff i learned back in college for the most part, the fiddly bits are learning all the shop's systems.
and unfortunately, i really ought to be getting to bed! i was off today and tomorrow i start three days on, but because it's spring equinox i'll be getting up at dawn to celebrate.
i might be tired later on lol
hope you'll have done all your storm prep for nothing, ergo, and that i'll get to chat with you again tomorrow.
hope you have a good night.
oh geez! before i forget -- i've been writing all night and I almost did! argh -- elena, loved your new femme fatale look! and stormy is so beautiful, she's really growing up!
good night all!
mayo,
do you do anything to welcome spring? (forget balancing an egg on its end; you can do that any time of the year if the egg's really fresh.)
when i was a little girl, i loved coloring easter eggs. i loved the vinegary smell and the mystery of not knowing exactly how the egg would come out from the dye. and then looking for them was so much fun -- this is one of those holidays for which i have very strong memories of my dad. he always hid the eggs the best.
once, i remember it was an easter we had to stay inside (actual spring weather didn't always show up with the equinox in montana, you see), and the whole time my little sister and i were looking for eggs, he just sat in his recliner.
finally i got suspicious, and starting looking over by the chair...i remember he was grinning, but he didn't say anything. and you know what? he had hid an egg in his shirt pocket! he didn't do anything when i found it, just sat there like there wasn't an egg in his pocket.
there's a photo of me standing behind the recliner holding up the egg in triumph, and the look on dad's face is just this side of laughing. i don't know how he kept a straight face. *grin*
springtime was always for me and dad anyway, what with both of our birthdays in the spring, and so close together. we were the spring babies in the family. maybe that's why i remember him so strongly between easter and the end of may....
of course, i don't celebrate easter anymore, and so all my spring memories of him surface now, with the equinox, and the eggs i make for my gods.
i never really talked to him about my religion, i don't know how much he knew. it wasn't a secret -- i mean, he was at my wedding, which was a pagan handfasting! and my grandmother (his mom) knew, she and i talked about it all the time, using different words for the same concepts. it never bothered her one bit that i was a pagan, even though she was a born-again baptist. i don't think dad would've been upset that i don't celebrate easter...he was never anything but proud of me, i know this in my bones, i can close my eyes and see the look he had for me even now, as clear as anything.
oh gosh! i have no idea why all this is coming out right now. i've been writing up my ritual for tomorrow morning, and when i sat down to write my good night to you, all of sudden i remembered him sitting in that recliner, letting me look all over to find that egg.
i miss him. the one thing that was absolutely certain in my life was that he loved me, even over the years when we hardly saw each other. i was without a doubt, daddy's little girl.
tomorrow i'll take an egg and go out to greet the spring and the sun, and it will be good. taking the time and making the effort to contact my gods always is.
but i guess i'm wishing i was looking for clever sneaky hidden eggs instead.
take care, mayo.
sweet dreams.
Welshie said...
Miss T. I meant to ask you yesterday but how are you enjoying living in London? Is it o.k.?
Hey have you come across any killer bagpipes yet? Well I'll let you into a little secret. You see there's only one way to destroy the bagpipe.
First you have to pick it up with your left hand and swing it three times above your head. Then you slam it on the floor and karate chop it three times with your right hand, like this;
*raises right hand*
Hi Ya, *chop*
Hi Ya, *chop*
Hi Ya, *chop*
No more than three times mind 'cos that'd just be mean.
Recap:
Left hand, swing, swing, swing,
Slam
Right hand, chop, chop, chop,
Got that?
Hope it helps:)
P.S. As a last resort, say if all the swinging and chopping doesn't work, tell that Scottish Bagpipe it's his turn to buy the drinks. You'll never see it again!!!!!
Well Hell!!!!
Woke up this morning to find overnight we got five inches of snow. Yeah just last week all the lilac bushes had budded out and now this. And we are supposed to get five to seven more inches today. This blows…
damn
Was talking to Ergo last night and while she was getting ready for the cyclone we were already getting raining ice. It was great to talk to her though and I also spoke to BG. What a sweetie! After she gave the phone back to her mom she whispered that I sound like Hannah Montana. LOL
Stay safe Ergo and Family!!!
Good to see you MissT and good to hear you are doing well. Keep up the good work.
TJ I loved what you wrote about your dad. I think our dads were pretty much alike. Mine once hid an egg under his ball cap. Totally not fair! LOL
Welshie I’ll be pulling for Wales in the rugby game. Thanks again for the comment about my hair. I’m still kinda undecided this morning when I got up I glanced in the mirror and for a moment was shocked that was me. Mr E is calling me Natasha (from the Bullwinkle Show) That’s fine I’ll just call him Boris.
Well off to sweep snow off my car. Take care everyone.
Legal drama.
Joan Jett vs. Jackie "Fox" Fuchs round 4
"Fuchs tried to have the ... film halted, and has demanded to see the script, even though there is no character based on her," claims a lawsuit for tortious interference with business relationships, quietly filed against Fuchs in December by Jett, her label Blackheart Records and music producer Kenny Laguna. Jett and Laguna are executive producers on the Floria Sigismondi-directed, Apparition-released film.
SYDNEY (AFP) – A tropical cyclone smashed into Australia's northeast coast on Sunday, with winds of up to 200 kilometres (124 miles) an hour damaging buildings, downing trees and cutting power to thousands of homes.
Cyclone Ului made landfall near Queensland's Whitsunday islands, a popular tourist destination on the Great Barrier Reef, leaving 60,000 properties without power, state Emergency Services Minister Neil Roberts said.
"The early reports we're getting in is minor to moderate damage in a number of homes, power outages across the region," Roberts told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.
Officials are assessing the impact that Ului, which has been downgraded since making landfall near the tourist town of Airlie Beach, has had on the region.
One resident described the storm, which had been building off the coast for days, forcing the evacuation of residents and tourists from some low-lying islands, as "pretty wild".
"I live in a pretty rickety old house and she was jumping up and down on the stumps a bit -- I've got an avocado tree through my dog kennel," the caller told ABC radio.
The Bureau of Meteorology said the storm was continuing to move inland but was now below cyclone strength after weakening rapidly when it hit land.
"Damaging winds are no longer expected," the bureau said in a statement, adding that heavy rainfall and flooding were likely in some coastal areas while surf conditions were expected to be dangerous.
On Friday, a 19-year-old ironman competing in the Australian Surf Lifesaving Championships in Queensland died after he was knocked unconscious and disappeared in wild surf whipped up by the cyclone.
Hundreds of tourists and residents were last week evacuated from islands on the Great Barrier Reef thought to be in the cyclone's path, and dozens of popular tourist beaches were shut due to dangerous surf conditions.
Just got off the phone with Ergo..
They lost power but luckily no severe damage just a very long night of listening to huge gusts of wind and rain. She wanted me to thank those who were keeping her families safety in your thoughts and prayers.
That's good news about Ergo. TY Elena.
That's horrible news about that 19 year old ironman. :(
Glad to hear Ergo is going to be alright. I worry when I hear about those storms, especially when I remember how she told us about hiding in the bathtub under a mattress when she was a kid. If I'm not mistaken, the roof came off the house.
Takes a lot of balls to live in OZ, for sure. :S
mayo,
well, my morning rite wasn't all that dramatic (except for the two cujos who threatened me as i crossed the field. neighbors here think it's cruel to keep their dogs "locked up"), but i'm glad i got up and went out.
and there were moments of magic, of course. it was a spring morning, after all.
hope you found some, too.
take care, mayo, and good night.
Mayo
Well here I am enjoying the first day of Spring..NOT. So far we have a total of about 9 inches of snow. Damn it I am so ready to stop feeding the dragon but alas that’s not gonna be happening for at least another week. I’m so tired of snow I could just spit. And as of matter of fact when I trudge through the white stuff on the way to the basement I just might. Who knows it might make me feel better. LOL
Oh well that’s how it goes. I’m just sorry I’ve lost all the lilacs that had budded out. I was really looking foreword to their sweet smell. When we have a perfect Spring the smell of the lilacs during a gentle rain is such a beautiful thing.
Maybe next year.
At least today had some good news. I was so relieved to hear Ergo’s voice and to learn she and her family had come through the cyclone safely.
Hope today held some good news for you too. Gotta remember to focus on the good, don’t we?
Take care
Night Mayo
Elena
