guts

It is interesting when you get a fresh perspective of yourself from a new acquaintance. Even at this reasonably accomplished age, I am still able to find myself anew.

Recently, I have been fortunate to gain the friendship of an interesting character. A smart, quick-witted, young “old chap” of a guy whose creativity and open-minded ideals speak volumes for his generation. At his age I was not nearly as wise, worldly, cultured, present, or relevant as he is. Even now his intellect far exceeds my own, and his ability to perceive others astounds me. He is very deliberate with his words, often taking what seems to me to be far too long to respond to my often off-kilter banter. But always following his reflection, he delivers an astute, provocative discourse on whatever topic I had mindlessly rambled into. Seriously, the guy can talk me under the table…and that is saying something.

And I must admit he is a bit off, as well. Regardless, or perhaps in spite of those facts, I find him very interesting.

As it goes with most new friendships there is the crush period. The time where everything about the new friend is fascinating and we often try to find a bit of ourselves in our new pal. And so my new friend has attempted to find fascination in me, and has asked for the privilege (his term, not mine) of reading some of my writing. I initially waved him off, figured he would find what he wanted or give up. But, after the third very polite request, I obliged.

It is strange; I can write for an unknown audience without fear. I can put it out there for the world to read, all of it…without a second thought. Yet when I directly hand over a few poems to my new friend, I am paralyzed.

As I said, my new friend is very perceptive. So, when I stuffed a few of my poems in his hand and continued on about the weather, he immediately detected my insecurity. He saw in my rushed speech and downcast eyes that I was nervous. And while I waited for him to speak, to interrupt my prattle, I reeled. He placed the pages face down on the table, then said “Ah yes, I see I was correct. You are an exhibitionist and shy, both.”

Which really put me to thought…what purpose am I serving with these characteristics, if characteristics do in fact serve us?

I suppose that those opposing characteristics, that in my case are so apparently extreme, benefit each other. I can only imagine that my unchecked exhibitionism would undoubtedly lead me to my depraved end, and that my need to slap the world in the face keeps me from becoming a total shut-in.

p.s. what you got in you; what it takes.

Well, no, Jennicula isn't on my hate list, because I don't have such a list. Pity that you do seem to have one.

We're supposed to get snow again by the end of the week. Wonder if we'll have a white Christmas?

elena said...

TJ next time we get snow I will make a snowman just for you and take a pic.

Last snow was great. I made snowballs and would throw them for Jake. He would take off running and just not understand why he couldn't find the "ball".

Allow me to explain this to the comprehension stunted, thick anons TJ.

. the world isn't that black and white, and mostly it's only people who are mentally stuck in adolescence who think so.

That means people like you; anons who view the world in strict colors of black & white are stuck in adolenscence/immature.

Emotional children and self absorbed adults do not see shades of grey.

For the anons who brought up who called whom what

one woman's bitch is another woman's retard or douche

one woman's cunt is another woman's psycho or idiot

one woman's scum is another woman's piece of shit

one woman's rot in hell is another woman's you can't talk about a loved ones death. you're using emotional manipulation if you do

one woman's God will strike you dead is another woman's your God is stupid, I would laugh in his face

The offensive natureof each of those words or phrases is in the eye of the beholders.

See how that all works anons?

No? Well you anons must be hypocrites if you don't.

Do not try to paint any one side as the poor innocent victims. That is bullshit.

Cats and snow are fun. Mine do the lift their paws high thing too.

Last year when we got a heavy snowfall poor Sweater Boy walked out and didn't realize where the deck steps started. The snow made them impossible to see. He walked right off the deck and sank into the snow. He was NOT impressed.

toujours said...

sorry couldn't share your obsession, anon. :(

And of course pointing out the obvious when they don't want to hear it always means "trying to start trouble".

it's true because the truth does hurt.

December 19, 2009 11:36 PM

This last sentence took me back to being a shy twelve year old. You see I'm shy, no I mean really painfully shy and timid. I can't help it. I think it's because I'm the youngest of three girls and they did everything for me. Their friends were my friends. They always used to speak up for me. I was so shy as a small child that I always hid behind my mother's back if someone tried to talk to me.

I realised a few months ago that except for my sisters I don't really have any friends of my own. Not real friends you see. I know now that I can't depend on them all the time. That's why I started commenting here. To try and make friends of my own. It's a start isn't it and I really started to enjoy it. People would say "Hi Welsh" and it felt good. I've met some wonderful people here.

Now back to that sentence and I think to the beginning of my utter lack of confidence. I was in my Physics class daydreaming as usual when a lad who was next to me said "What you looking at?", I just put my head down. Then he said "You know what, you're really, really ugly". I looked away again. Finally he said those words "the truth hurts doesn't it". Everyone started laughing and I felt utterly humiliated. Well damn it yes it did hurt and it still does. Seeing those words again on this blog upset me so much. I know they weren't directed at me but the memories of that day came flooding back. I'm starting to feel that this blog is doing me more harm than good.
Seeing Toujours and Jennicula being hounded last night was terrible. Why does it give someone pleasure by humiliating someone else?

I now know that I have to pick myself up and try to be more confident in real life. But where the hell to start I don't know.

I'm sorry Mayo for all this drivel. Feel free to delete it.

Anonymous said...

As one victim of bullying to another...

I love ya Welshy!

Anonymous said...

I did not see Jennicula be hounded here last night. I just saw someone say they know her for what she is.

I thought I was the only one to notice.

Jennicula has been horrendous to other regulars here. She has been the anon who uses the word redicoulous. I have seen her use it here as an anon, at VVs as an anon and, most importantly, at her own blog. I guess people don't realize

It saddens me to see other regulars greet her as a nice person when I know how she has spoken to and of them.

elena said...

Sadly people want to call a blog just pretend. It isn't. Many times it is just like "real" life. Made up of people who at times can be good but hey, we're all human. At times people are bad. I am sorry seeing that line brought back bad memories for you. I understand because I too went through a lot of shit when I was in school. I never quite fit in. And when we moved to the town where I live now I was 15. I started a small school were everyone already knew each other. I was the outsider they didn't want to let in and many of the kids made sure I knew that.

But I hope you realize that there are a lot of people here that are happy to see you. I've enjoyed the times we've chatted.

I guess what I'm saying is that this place is just like being out in the real world. You're gonna encounter negative shit. Sometimes a lot of it. But you're also gonna encounter some really good people who welcome you. I hope you don't give up on this place because I would miss you.

Take care

welsh anon, the truth hurts when it is told by blunt people who think that only they know what the truth is. unfortunately, we seem to attract a few of that type here.

but i wanted to let you know that even though i hardly ever respond to your comments (blame the time difference and the fact that i am usually too lazy by the time i get here), i like that you're here, i like reading what you write.

i spent several month in the u.k. back in my college days, mostly studying in london, but travelling a bit, too. i was only in wales for one day, but the people i met there still figure largely in my memories of that time.

and when you wrote about shrewsbury! well, i spent a day there, too, wandering around by myself, and i loved the place for exactly the same reasons that you wrote about.

your comments always remind me of good things, and your "voice" is a kind one, so please! keep writing here. you are making friends, even if some of them (...one of them...) are mostly quiet.

elena, ergo, i wanted to thank you both. *hugs*

mayo, just stopping in on my way offline. i don't know what my day is going to be yet; i've only been up for a little while (and have only had one cup of coffee *horrified gasp*). hope yours is shaping up to be a friendly, happy one (no matter how many cups of coffee you've had).

Has anybody seen (500) Days of Summer? It's one of those critics' darlings kind of films and it's probably going to get lots of Oscar noms and it was directed by Marc Webb (of I'm Not Okay, Helena, GOY and Teenagers fame). I don't think we'll be seeing any more MCR videos directed by Marc Webb. :(

It's a really good movie and you all should check it out. Oh yeah, and that Matthew Gray Gubler guy is in it too!

quite simply, a vagina punch.

Kapunua said at VV that it was a coincidence and it was "erotomania" to think that Frank took the word from her.

Anonymous said...

Erotomania is when someone thinks that a celebrity or some other out of reach person in love with them. They read signs and clues of that person's love in insignificant gestures or words. Clues that really aren't there.

Kinda like OPJ and Frank.

Boy, are you unobservant. The "protagonist" that Kapunua was talking about was the woman in the book, Pattern Recognition by William Gibson. Her name is Cayce Pollard. Kapunua was summarizing the things that happened to Cayce in the book.

Anonymous said...

And of course Frank uses words she has made up...

Funny as fuck, in all manner of ways.

December 20, 2009 5:42 PM

No OPJ because then I would have to believe that Mayo was Gerard and I would have to have not known that she was talking about a specific book.

Erotomania is you thinking you are going to get into Frank's pants.

Anonymous said...

How typical. You can't stand the fact that you were wrong about the book so you go to the next best thing, accusing people of being someone you hate.

Anonymous said...

Persons with erotomania often send the person of their obsession unsolicited gifts. They think they have a special connection with them, even though they may have only met them once.

More often than not, the person suffering from the disorder is harmless, but in severe cases they can become dangerous.

How long have you been on the internet, 6:04? Words and phrases develop and become part of the vernacular in record time now.

Kapunua thinks she invented the phrase and who knows? Maybe she did. If enough people picked it up and went with it. It's totally possible.

Anonymous said...

LOL Are you serious with that excuse 6:02? You can't be.

What are you calling an excuse? It's a possible explanation. One that makes complete sense.

You aren't interested in anything but trying to make someone you hate look bad. So stop pretending otherwise. Besides, you argue very, very badly.

As it appears Kapunua and her crew are here for the evening I am off. There will be no reasonable discussion only name calling and insults.

In fact, Choppy probably went to VV's and made the first comment about Frank copying Kapunua. Then, when she got a response from K, she came here and posted it so she could accuse Kapunua of coming here to post anon.

Mayo, what is the point of this?

This all started because Frank used a term that was used a lot here. Used by someone that the majority of those here hate.

You saw what happened when you agreed on the book that Kap was reading.

These people obviously think you are Gerard Way and Frank Iero is SS. This is what YOU and SS drove them to. This behavior.

Why don't you just tell them to stop, that you are not who they think you are..... or why don't you end this?

You let this go on for YEARS with these people believing you are something you're NOT. And because of their belief they lost their minds. This place is disgusting.

Is this what you want Mayo?? Is this what you had in mind.

No, actually, I was on the phone, setting up an outing with a parent of my son's friend and then came back to read your very funny comment.

I don't really feel the need to justify myself to you, but I can assure you that I'm not the one abusing anyone. But think whatever you need to think to get you through the night.

Anyway, my son is finished with his drums so I am off. And unlike some other people here (whom I will not name), I really am off.

Russ ended up winning the audience favorite and got a hundered thousand. I'm glad about that. Man the guy really wanted the title of Sole Survivor.

Do they still film the I'm a Celebrity show?

ergoproxy said...

oh yes, the British series was in Australia last month. They were in the "jungle" in the south of Queensland

also known as the rainforest of Springbrook National Park

I've been camping there and there are heaps of walks and waterfalls and stuff, they were in a more isolated spot though. It is very pretty
the winner and runner up though got charged with animal cruelty as they killed and ate a rat, lol

elena said...

Wow charged for eating a rat?

So like are rats endangered?

ergoproxy said...

no, it sounds silly doesn't it, but the killing of animals for entertainment is illegal and because it was a show and not supervised etc..
the case hasn't gone to court yet

and there was one where they told them they were swimming in a lake "infested" with crocodiles, it was on our news, had shooters and all "in case"
thing is it is so far south, and up in a mountain range, there are no crocs anywhere near it!!
They really preyed on people having no idea about where they were.

Though we were menaced by a blue crayfish on our yr 12 camp up near there.
There was a group of us on a walk, and it was quite wet (hence rainforest - lol) and I was always at the back even then going "ooh look at the fungus!" "oh wow, look at that little liverwort" and the girls in front rounded a bend and came back screaming, I thought "snake" but when I looked it was this big blue crayfish standing with his claws in the air (about a 1/2 foot long) I'm sure he was feeling very proud of himself until I walked towards him and he scuttled off. They walk around picking up fruits and such in the leaf litter when enough rain has kept the ground nice and damp

this is one they are only found in the 2 national parks down there

Hello Mayo, SS, Ergo, Elena, Sweetcheeks, MissT, TJ, a few anons!

How are you all? Good, I hope!

Where to start? Hmmm...

6:46 ~ Hi right back at you! I’m so sorry to disappoint you once again; but, the “partying, Vodka drinking, sex toy suggesting anon at 6:45 was not me. Yes, once again; you pointed that finger of yours in the wrong direction! Some of you “anons” really are so darn good at doing that!

Let me be PERFECTLY CLEAR for you and yours: I WAS NOT 6:45 anon. Got it?

Will it help you “get through your night/week/holidays” believing it was me? Is so, please do and please continue to mistake other people as being me. But, believing it doesn't make it true or accurate!

Now that correcting your recent case of “lets incorrectly name the anon" is out of the way; I would also like to say that I think your statements at 6:49 pm (or 6:49‘s statements IF, by chance, it was not you):

~~~Didn't drink any vodka so I'm a bit more lucid than you (but then, that's obvious).
The only person I see evidence of being here day and night is you, Dear Choppy. Despite your claims of partying. The vodka drinking, I believe.
~~~

are absolutely horrible statements to make on a blog where many people (blue bloggers, anons and Mayo, himself) have had the courage to admit they had/have problems with alcohol. Some have admitted to being alcoholics or addicts. Some are in recovery and some are not. Regardless, it is lifelong battle and the struggle to beat those devils/demons is a daily one. Thankfully, it is one battle I have not had to fight myself. However, I do have many friends who do have to fight that daily battle.

As I have said before, some of them have won their battles ~ some of them have lost not only the battle but the war as well.

I think it’s “disgusting”, “vile”, disgraceful and very disrespectful of you to use their disease/illness to try to “take a shot” at me.

It shows a complete lack of maturity and understanding concerning a very serious problem that plagues many decent, good people in the world today.

In fact, I lost a cousin, on December 4th, who “lost” his war. He was 25 years old. Blonde, handsome, 6 foot 4, athletic, well loved and as sharp as a whip… but, his demons won. Even after four stints in rehab he could not defeat those inner demons that called to him ~ non stop. They were too loud for him, I suppose.

One of my best friends (who is like a brother to me) is also, currently, engaged in an intense battle with prescription meds. And, that happens to be what I spent my Friday night doing. Talking to him most of the night.

6:45 ~ I’m happy to hear you had so much fun this weekend!!! Just, be careful out there and don’t overdo anything!

To the "anon" who left the facebook link at my blog on Dec. 16th, THANK YOU! I mean that. I really do appreciate it. It's great to know that "Bob" is still alive, kicking and rockin'! I love that guy and I just might have to set up a face book account just to get in touch with him again. It's been way to long!

Elena and Survivor anon: I agree with the both of you!! Natalie so did not deserve to win. She didn't do a damn thing except ride Russ' coat~tails and shed a few tears to get the jury's sympathy vote. Her winning is just WRONG!

Well, I do believe that is all I wanted to say. Goodnight, most everyone!

Sweet dreams to most of you!!!

:)

Hugs and Love,
~Namaste~

To whom it may concern:

It has come to our attention that a certain person (I shall not mention any names) is neglecting their Photobucket and their friends. (And yes I still believe that is what we are, damn it – friends) Shit it kinda feels like we have traveled a long and often bumpy road together and that we’re survivors.

Whoops sorry I digress.

It would be appreciated if you would handle the Photobucket situation ASAP. (Of course that has nothing to do with missing a certain combustible painting)

It would also be appreciated if you would take a moment to simply let those concerned know that you are well.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.

Okay, let me just start by apologising to you all for my pathetic rant yesterday. I'd had a bad day. No excuse I know but I wanted to explain. You see my sister has breast cancer and she's just coming up to the end of her treatment. I was told yesterday that two more members of my family have been diagnosed with cancer. Just when you think things are getting better this happens. It was such a shock and I stupidly took my anger out on the people here which was wrong. I'm very sorry.
Thank you TJ, Elena, Ergo and anons for your kind words yesterday.

Welsh, don't ever apologize for how you feel. Sometimes it's very hard to see the good that come from this place, or any other gathering spot. And we are all wishing you, your sister and the rest of your family the very best of health, life and luck. It's nice to see you again, Welsh. You do have friends.

May life give you and all you care for, all that you need and desire, Happy Holidays. <3

Welsh anon, no worries, we can all have bad days and you sound like you've had a lot to cope with. I hope your sisters treatment is successful, my mother is a breast cancer survivor, though a good friend was not so lucky.
I have this poem on my blog, I wrote it over 2 years ago, after Pink Ribbon day & I'd like to share it with you

Balloons

It is dusk
And I drive home.
I see pink balloons,
Floating in the dim light,
Over the grassy park,
Onto the road.
They represented
Women,
Who all were victims.
Who all battled.
Some won,
Some lost,
All fought,
Breast cancer.
A friend,
Fights now.
No one can tell us,
If she will win.
It has been so long,
And the cancer,
Is no longer,
What it was once named.
Now her treatment,
Maintains a stand-off.
My own mother,
Too was called,
To the front line.
She won,
But only through,
Radical mastectomy.
But now I live,
In uneasy,
Silent fear,
Of my own body.
That something,
That partly defines my gender,
Gives pleasure and shape,
Nurtures a child,
Can change,
To an enemy.
Another,
Asked my mum,
How she could lose,
Something that made her a woman.
She said it was easy,
It was going to kill her.
I think,
I would choose the same.
So I wear,
A pink ribbon,
For the hundreds,
Thousands,
Tens of thousands,
Of women.
To remind
And remember.

I hope your other family members are successfully treated also.

I find it laughable that Wendy of all people would come here and lecture anyone about saying "vile" things when she is one of the vilest, nastiest people I've ever had the misfortune to run across on the internet.

People shouldn't come here and post things when they're drunk, regardless of whether or not they have a drinking problem, because then say things like, "May you and yours rot in hell for eternity." That was a vile thing to say. Telling someone that vodka makes them less than perfectly lucid? Not even close.

Funny thing to me, Chopper comes in here making fun of people, telling them they are crazy, accusing them of having no life, insinuating that they are bad parents (based on the fact that they defend Kapunua) and copying and pasting comments back and forth from another blog just to cause trouble, yet Wendy seems to see nothing at all wrong with that. The only thing she takes exception to is someone suggesting that perhaps Chopper might have had a bit too much of that vodka she was bragging about.

Hmmm.

It's also odd that Wendy is the only blue who even bothers to acknowldedge Chopper. The others seem to be aware of the fact that Chopper just makes everyone here look bad.

Hmmm.

Just an observation.

Why don't you just admit to it Jennicula? We all know it's you.

I don’t know what I did to get dragged through the mud the last few days. I told everybody to have a nice weekend on Thursday and I came back to a shit storm. I spent a nice long weekend shoveling 2 feet of snow and playing Nintendo with my son.

Who pissed in somebody’s Cheerios over the weekend? It certainly wasn’t me. Oh wait, has school finally let out for the holidays and now the trolls have more time on their hands? Do you really “see me” for the real me? I doubt it.

I was never the Karen or Choppy anon. I have not bashed the OPs (either one), MJ, Wendy, Mya, Andrea, or Amyranth (or anybody else who might have been mentioned.) Mayo knows it wasn’t me and I don’t care if he backs me up or not. He knows it and I know it.

I haven’t visited VV’s in well over a year. I think the last time I posted there was in 2007. If they think I’m an idiot over there – oh well. You can’t please everybody.

An anon did tell me that they hope “you and your family rot in Hell for all eternity” after I told them to question their government. I don’t remember when it was and I don’t have time to look for it. I’m sure somebody can find it if they really want to. I would thank the anon who pointed that fact out, but I’m sure you will all think it was me being an anon sticking up for myself.

You’re going to believe only what you want to believe. It doesn’t matter what I say. So what can I do? You want to hate me and put me on some kind of “hate list?” Knock your socks off.

You don’t have to like me. That’s ok. My friends like me, my family likes me and I like me - that’s all that really matters in my world. (And no, I’m not making up family and friends. I actually have some.)

I’m not going to apologize for something I didn’t do.

Now, if you’ll please excuse me. I’d rather staple my tongue to my desk rather than debate my integrity with this hostile anonslaught any longer.

Have fun on your witch hunt.

(BTW – the word “ridiculous” is a pretty regular word and I do use it. Here, I’ll use it again – this bullshit is ridiculous.)

For those that can appreciate this....The record label told Willie this song was not releasable as a single, that it would fail miserably. They told him no one would know what to do with a song that only had guitar and vocals and none of that ridiculous 'Nashville Sound' crap they were churning out. What great song. Willie had to leave Nashville and the 'experts' behind to make his masterpiece.

Welsh anon, I had to laugh when I saw your comment with the wombles lyrics cos my mum has been moaning that none of her crimbo CD's has the wombling merry christmas song on them. And can we heck as like find it enywhere. It reminds her of being younger, I just nod and agree with her, it's easier that way hahaha!

On a more serious note, I'm so so so sorry to hear that more members of your family have been diagnosed with cancer. I really wish this evil disease could be erradicated once and for all. Stay strong sweetie, it can be beat.

Anon, those amityville sites are so interesting. I Have seen the documentary about when the psychics went in with the police to say what they felt there? Someone took that photo of the boy that night. It's a great picture isn't it and so spooky?

Ergo, I used to watch The Goodies when I were little, they were great.

Thanks so much for the Aussie christmas blog. I absolutely love it.

Well, I dunno what to say. I have been reading what has gone on these past few days and I'm gobsmacked.

People constantly accusing other people of being other people. It makes my head spin. It baffles me how someone can be so adamant that an anon is someone else. Maybe I am naive that I take everyone at face value. But I'd like to see this stop.

My wish for the new year is a new start to this place. It can be a good place for making genuine friends. I can certainly say that my postage costs have gone up since I came here hahaha!

Maybe we can let all past arguements be left in the past and start anew. We have ALL said mean things in the past. Let's acknowledge that and start again on an even footing. It does no-one any favours to keep raking up the past.

Let us bring fun back to this place. So many of you have said how you miss it. Let's make it happen.

Mayo gave us this place, let's have fun with it instead of creating misery.

I'm off for now. Take care guys.

I watched a Charlie Brown Christmas for probably the hundredth time in my 26 years last night, and the effect and the message are never lost on me.

When Linus quotes the passage from the Bible about Jesus, and the birth, and then says "That's what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown." I cry. Every time.

It never ceases to amaze me that in this time of year, for years before me and for years after I'm gone, that there is the hope that one person can put into motion the change that there needs to be in this world.

Christmas, at it's very core is about hope. The hope that tomorrow will be a better day. The faith that if you just keep going, things will get better somehow.

The joy that comes from the birth of a child, and the hope that this child will be part of the good changes we all need to enact in this life, to make things better for us, and for everyone after us, is staggering.

It doesn't matter if that child is holy or not. Silver spoon, or lucky to get food, every person on this planet is sacred, and everyone does something at least once in their lifetime that will contribute to the catalyst that will make this place a better place for all.

That's the hope this season represents. And that's the hope we should all have.

Peace.

Joy.

Love.

Christmas.

That's what it's all about, Charlie Brown.
