Theory of Degeneration.

For as long as I can remember, I have collected little bits and pieces of people. Not eyeballs and arms, or blood and guts, but their lives, their actions, moments and movements…the way they walk or speak. I watch and listen, collecting fragments and still-frames of lives of which I know nothing. I keep these parts, and then when I am ready I attribute my own perceptions to their actions; I make up stories. I am a thief. And from what I collect, I assemble.

The way a woman, carrying her child on her hip, hesitates while crossing the street. Wrapping her hand protectively around her child’s head, she holds her breath and second guesses the crisp-suited businessman will run the red light because he is distracted talking to his mistress, and he has only five minutes to make plans with her before he meets his wife for lunch. The woman knows this because her husband left her last year for his secretary. He told her over lunch.

The way coffee shop patrons cast questioning glances at the man sitting alone at the back of the room. His eyes are downcast, and he is spinning an empty cup. He rarely moves, and never speaks. Across from him sits an empty chair, a full cup of coffee, and an uneaten pastry. Patrons avoid him, falsely assuming he is homeless or insane, because of his sour body odor and dirty clothes. It is true; he hasn’t changed them in six days, the six days since his wife died, the six days he has returned to the table at the coffee shop where they met. The same table they called “ours” twice a week.

The way a classroom full of students, half paying attention, all consider the quiet kid in the back to be a dolt. They see a girl who rarely looks up and never raises her hand. The kid isn’t ignorant or lazy. On the contrary, she has already correctly answered the question in her head. She simply can’t get past the fear that, once called upon, she will fumble through her speech and answer incorrectly, drawing upon herself the jeers of her classmates. She so fears the embarrassment of being wrong that she sacrifices achievement. She will later beat herself up because she didn’t raise her hand, taking over from where the others have left off.

No Longer Lost.

I don’t have to look for you anymore.
Not in faces that resemble yours
Round and rugged, shadow of a beard
That always seems present, but never more
Than a scruff. Is it you?
I never asked, but wonder.
This time I could not help myself.
Are you?

He told me you drowned yourself,
And that in the end they had made you a beggar
Boxed in pine, without proper notice.
It had been 20 years, but still I looked for you
Because you were kind when I was afraid.
But, I think I don’t need you anymore.

Right now, that is all prosthetic.

A lack of sleep and unending thoughts will either drive me to excuse myself from my obligations or thrust me headlong into achievement. Everything around me spins on, and I remain pushing my way through to the very end.

And that is where I remain, soldered to the front end of a rogue missile.

p.s. that is what makes it rock.

Mayo

Wish I had time to chat tonight but I came home and have a very sick Mr Elena to tend to. But I did want to share a few pictures I took today. The first is a graveyard in the middle of the city. The graves actually border the road and the side yard of some houses. It seems strange but I'm sure it was there first and the city simply grew up around it.

graveyard

This photo is of a grave decorated for halloween by the family. I think it is sweet they remember to do this for their loved one.

Halloween grave

And last but not least a beautiful tree. The photos are really nothing special but they made me happy so I wanted to share them with you.

Halloween Tree

Well must go be a nurse now. Hope you are well and feeling happy. Take care.

so pretty lazy day

your day was good?

toujours said...

yum, homemade bread! that always makes the house smell good. :)

today was a good day, actually. there were times that the shop was swamped, but they weren't too overwhelming. and it was nice to listen to mcr all day, and funny to try to keep the customers from hearing the "colorful" part of the lyrics. *heh*

ergoproxy said...

oh I know that problem, I listen in the car and you have to sometimes sing a loud alternate word for some songs (not just mcr either!)

yep, and there were times that i forgot, and was just blithely singing along...only realizing after the fact that i had just sung "motherfucker"...

oops.

good night ergo, hope your bread turns out delicious!

toujours said...

mayo,

here's what was really neat about listening to mcr today (aside from just having it playing, of course):

at one point this afternoon, a regular came in to pick up a few more yards of something for her current project. while i was cutting the material for her, she made a comment, something about how i had decided to be "hardcore" today.

well, that threw me for a little bit of a loop. what had i done differently today? sure, i was wearing my new shirt from maxwell's, but it was hardly an extreme design...nail polish was the same, make-up was the same...

and then my brain kicked in and i realized she was referring to the music. she was accustomed to my usual selections, the bands i felt i could play safely at work -- a lot of the decemberists, a lot of the shins.

she meant mcr.

and all of a sudden, i heard it the way she must have, i heard the music as i had when i first began to listen to them. the loud guitars, the louder lead singer, the fast beat, faster than your heart.

over the years since those first songs, mcr has become the language with which i hear music, and today when my customer smiled at me and commented on my choice, for a moment, it became a brand new one again.

what could i do, but smile right back at her?

*grin*

good night, mayo. sweet dreams.

Earlier this week, 1.5 million people filled the streets of Berlin, Germany to watch a several-day performance by France's Royal de Luxe street theatre company titled "The Berlin Reunion". Part of the celebrations of the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Reunion show featured two massive marionettes, the Big Giant, a deep-sea diver, and his niece, the Little Giantess.

the photos are amazing. imagine how wonderful it would've been to see this in person!

New video from THE JADE! YAY!

~~~THE JADE ~ King's Cross~~~
(Awwww ~ fond frozen flashbacks.... I really love them!)
Hyvää huomenta (and Terve too!) Mayo, SS, Ergo, Sweetcheeks who could be in Texas by now, Martha, J and L, Amy, MissT, Elena, TJ, various anons and distinguished lurkers!
How are you all on this lovely (and cool) Saturday? Good, I hope!
Did you all have a good week? I had grandparents' day, at my nephew's school, yesterday! It was fun (as usual). First, we went to mass (where we found out there are M&Ms in heaven ~ according to Father Walter's mother). So, I know that marshmallow statement I posted a while back HAS to be true too.
Then, we met his teacher (a lovely woman who looks as though she would be an 8th grade student).
Next, we picniced on the school grounds. I wanted to go on the swings; but, they were all taken!
:(
Oh well! It was still fun even though I was not able to swing. The slide looked very tempting too; but, I thought that might be a bit much! Maybe not, since a couple of adorable little girls asked me if I was Jude's sister (waves to Bre). LOL!!!! Kids are so darn adorable!
Amy and Ergo: All those baked goods sound so... well, good! I don't suppose ya'll could send a care package to me?
;)
I think that is all, for now. Have a great Saturday/Sunday, everyone!
Hugs and Love,
~Namaste~
Good Afternoon, Everyone!
Hope you are all doing great, and enjoying the day. It's raining here, had a few storms last night, but still warm. Just the right weather to open the sliding door and take in the fresh air, sipping a cup tea. I love it.
S.S., or "Sinister",
I love what you have done with your blog! Elena will love the graveyard scene. You never fail to make me smile.
Anons from this morning,
love the songs! Rise Above is my all time favorite Black Flag song, and the others are just as great. Thanks for the jolts.
Amy,
Happy Canadian Thanksgiving! Are you knee deep in baking today?
Mayo man,
"Sinister" just upted the ante, so what do you have planned for us for All Hallows Eve?
Love you guys,
L.
Original Punk L said...
Hey, Wendy!
Nice video, and really good song. The lead singer is beautiful too. You got to see them in Finland, didn't you? :)
Sounds like you had a good day so far too. How are you doing?
Got a question for anyone, anons and all.
I'm trying to make a homemade tomato pasta sauce for a dish tonight, and I need an old world, authentic Italian recipe. Does anyone have one of those "this is from my mother, grandmother, etc. kind of family recipe" that I can have?
Thankyu muchly!
L.
Original Punk L said...
TJ,
Those pictures were just amazing! That would have been incredible to see in person. I can't imagine how much planning went into that event, especially spread out over so many days.
Elena,
I hope Mr. Elena is feeling better. Is he being a good patient? I got the Get Well card yesterday too. Thank you so much!
Everyone else, have a great day, and I'll talk to you tonight.
Love ya,
L.
Anon616 said...
L!!!!! How are you, lady?
Thank you (on behalf of The Jade)! Yes, I did get see them in Finland. I think the night of the Rokkers' Ball was the coldest night there. But, it was great!
I'll go hunt down my grandmother's recipe for you. She was a great cook (and, my 'paw~paw' ~ my mom's step dad ~ was from Italy)!
Hi SS!!! I must go have a look at this "sinister" thing too!
Anonymous said...
Once again SS has shown his friendship towards the OPs at 3:30.
Anon616 said...
Ha! Luckily I know just where my grandmother's recipes are!
;)
Italian Meat (or not) Sauce:
1 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup chopped bell pepper
1 pound ground beef or italian sausage
2 cloves minced garlic
2 large fresh tomatoes (diced) OR 1 can (16 oz) diced tomatoes
1 6 oz can tomato paste
1/4 cup snipped parsley
1/4 teaspoon brown sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon crushed dried oregano
1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
one pinch dried basil
1 bay leaf
1/2 teaspoon monosodium glutamate (well, that's up to you too)
1/4 teaspoon Tabasco (we are Cajun ~ afterall)
Combine onion, meat, bell pepper and galic and cook till meat is browned and veggies are tender.
Skim fat and add remaining ingredients and two cups water. Simmer, uncovered for 3 hours or until sauce is thick. Stir occasionally.
Remove bay leaf before serving.
* (People just don't seem to like seeing LEAVES in their food.)
Don't forget to have the Parmesan cheese on the table!
*blows kisses to blog believe, for now*
PS for SS: That picture is sinister looking! YIKES!
Anon616 said...
Ooops! That recipe will serve six!
:)
Original Punk L said...
Thank you, Wendy!
I printed the recipe off, and will use it tonight. I will let you know how it goes. I'm going to chop shrimp and combine it with ricotta and herbs to stuff pasta, and bake it with the meatless sauce tonight, with green beans and garlic bread on the side.
Gotta get started!
Love ya bunches,
L.
official site
they are currently on lap 31
ergoproxy said...
Mt Panorama, it's not mine lol
toujours said...
too many wheels, ergo. imo, a race is only exciting if the drivers have to straddle their machines. ;)
ergoproxy said...
ooh TJ!!!
lol
how are you?
i'm doing okay, how are things for you? is your favorite driver winning? do you have a favorite driver?
ergoproxy said...
oh it's started raining and they are on slicks
change tyres guys!!!
ergoproxy said...
I don't have a particular driver really, Craig Lowndes or Garth Tander probably, I just like watching it.
It's been going 45 years, most of the drivers aI really liked are retired now, lol
Garth's wife is also racing, first woman in 9 years. He's in 3rd but she is much further back, but just finishing it is a huge deal, it's the hardest of the V8 supercar series
and I am really good thanks, bit of a cooler day today, just lazing about watching the race (it takes close to 6 1/2 hrs)
Amyranth said...
Well frig.
The chocolate chip cookies came out more like chocolate chip chips. And I only got 16 hallowe'en cookies out of a (not great) recipe that's supposed to make 24. Thanks Martha.
Back to the drawing board, I suppose. *sigh*
toujours said...
hi amyranth! "martha" as in martha stewart? i could never make her cookies come out to the suggested number, either.
ergo, that's how i am with motogp -- i have racers that i like, but really it's just the engines and the speed of it all. :)
and that's fantastic about garth tander's wife, more power to her!
Anonymous said...
:) Hi
Amyranth said...
Teej, yes Martha as in Martha Stewart. The recipe itself didn't really come out the way I had expected either. The butter might not have been soft enough before I mixed it in because the cookie dough came out of the fridge all crumbly. I had to actually rework it with my hands in order to get it to become rollable.
And the chocolate chip cookies somehow didn't get enough flour, even though I put in two cups to a cup of butter. They're quite flat and really greasy. Not impressed.
Of course, I have heard rumor that baking in this province is actually greatly affected by the weather. Something about the barometric pressure going up affects the rising of the baking power in baked goods. Or maybe that was just someone who was a bad baker, I dunno.
ergoproxy said...
hi anon!
too right TJ I love the noise and the power, I really want to get to a big drag meet again, I LOVE the sound of those cars
oh Amy that is a shame, perhaps call them Halloween Choc Crisps and make out that was how they are supposed to be?
Amyranth said...
Hallo Guy Smiley @ 11:03!
Amyranth said...
Ergo, that's a fantastic idea! Hallowe'en Chocolate Crisps. I wonder if they're marketable.
toujours said...
hi there anon. :)
amyranth, i've heard that atmospheric conditions and the weather can indeed affect one's baking. when i was a kid in montana, we had to make adjustments for altitude. maybe you just need to tweak the recipe for your region?
ergo, my dad did a little stock car racing when i was a kid, so saturdays were spent out at the local race track...it really was a very exciting place!
ergoproxy said...
weather does affect baking a lot, humidity is really bad, temperature and pressure. Even the brand of flour, I always buy good flour to bake with, cheap flour is just never as good. But that sounds like a bad recipe, was it just a basic choc chip cookie recipe?
Amyranth said...
Teej, I'm starting to think that might be the case. Montana is just south of Alberta, right? I find during the spring and summer, chocolate chip cookies come out just right, fluffy and thick. In the winter and fall, it's a little more flat, right when I want them to be fluffy and thick.
I bet you it's the baking powder. Bugger that for a lark.
Amyranth said...
Ergo, it's the same recipe I use every time I bake chocolate chip cookies. Most of the time it works but it seems like sometimes it just says "No man. Seriously, no. I'm not gonna bake."
toujours said...
yeah, we were about six hours south of you. i remember that sometimes in home ec the cookies would come out like yours, maybe try reducing the butter?
ergoproxy said...
I use these 2 a lot
1:
4 oz butter
4 oz sugar
1 egg
tsp vanilla
8 oz self raising flour
or
125g butter
90g sugar
1 egg
250g SR flour
but I also have:
1/2c butter
1/2c sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla
1 egg
2c plain flour
1 tsp baking powder
I just tend to use self raising flour, but have to put more in sometimes as my eggs are bigger so mix is too wet
toujours said...
the last one is similar to the one i used to make, ergo, but a martha stewart recipe is sure to have fussy bits.
ergoproxy said...
OH!
you aren't using white choc chips?
white chocolate doesn't bake well in cookies, it separates
Anonymous said...
Good Night
ergoproxy said...
those are basic cookie doughs, you can then add anything, about 90g worth
or swap a couple of tbs flour for cocoa
if the butter was to soft it might not cream well too
Amyranth said...
Teej, I was going to use a Williams-Sonoma recipe for the sugar cookies, until it called for a whole vanilla bean. They're $12.99 for six at Safeway. Bugger that hedgehog as well.
Ergo, the one that I use is:
1c flour
1tsp baking powder
1/2tsp salt
1/2c softened butter
1/4c sugar
1/2c brown sugar
1tsp vanilla
1 egg
1 pkg chocolate chips.
And I frequently double it from there, as Mister can easily eat 12 cookies in one day. Small wonder he's not diabetic yet.
Amyranth said...
And no, I don't use white chocolate, great for the casual nom, but I don't bake with it because (like you said) it separates way too quickly.
toujours said...
wow, anon. just: wow.
that's the standard recipe, amyranth -- all i can figure is that something was going on with your climate. but! you know that they'll still taste good...it's difficult to mess up a choc chip recipe enough to render it inedible!
toujours said...
my comment got all de-spaced. :(
i must've hit a wrong key, sorry!
Amyranth said...
I love that picture, by the way.
And you're right Teej. A cookie is a cookie, and it's usually still edible.
Except for the time I used really old brown sugar, thinking it would be okay once it baked.
Oh, it baked alright.
I could have sold that batch on the black market as weapons.
Anonymous said...
:)
toujours said...
lol amyranth, i think i've seen those cookies used in action films. they always do terrible, terrible damage.
Blasted doubleposting.
ergoproxy said...
don't you have it?
I use it all the time for baking, it's just easier than bothering with baking powder
I'll google to see if it has a different name over there
ergoproxy said...
apparently there is a Brodie's Self Raising flour made by Smucker foods
toujours said...
i had never heard of self-rising flour until i went to england. i think that although you can find it here, it's just not used very much.
Amyranth said...
It's probably on the shelf somewhere here Ergo, but I've always just bought the regular bags of flour. Good ol' Robin Hood flour, in the bright yellow bag.
If you use the self-rising flour, how do you find gravy comes out with it? Or did you say you always use cornstarch for your gravy?
ergoproxy said...
I always have plain and SR flour here
if I do gravy/white sauce/cheese sauce I find it makes little difference but I will usually reach for the plain flour
it's just so much easier when baking to grab one cup of, instead of needing flour/baking powder/salt plus it's already in the right ratio and mixed in well so no need to measure and sift.
It also doesn't seem to get that slightly odd taste that baking powder sometimes gives things.
ergoproxy said...
I sometimes use cornstarch for thickening a casserole for eg, I prefer to make a mix of plain flour and butter and thicken with that.
I also use a gravy mix just to be quicker if I don't have pan juices
Amyranth said...
Someone said online that baking powder has aluminum in it.
I wonder if that has anything to do with it.
And I should give it a try. Even if I just buy a little bag and make one or two batches. If they don't turn out, at least I know.
toujours said...
i never like using cornstarch much, i could always taste it. i did like making sauces with flour though, once you have the trick of it it was easy-breezy.
the self-rising flour sounds nice though. maybe i'll try it when i have a kitchen again!
ergoproxy said...
I pretty much always make a roux of butter and flour, cornstarch can give it a taste, but it is very handy for emergency last minute thickening
amy I make cookies all the time with it, it would be one less variable, use the same recipe, just leave out the salt and baking powder when you substitute
Makes easy cakes and everything too
easy choc cake
1c SR flour
1c sugar
1 tsp vanilla
3 tbs cocoa
3 tbs soft butter
1/2c milk
2 eggs (but I use 3 to be fudgier)
mix all and beat 4 mins, bake at 180-200C for 45 mins
OR
Amazing Mug Cake!!
in a big coffee mug mix (in order):
4tbs SR flour
4tbs sugar
2tbs cocoa
1 egg
3tbs milk
3tbs oil
tiny bit vanilla
(optional 3 tbs choc chips
mix in mug, microwave (1000W) 3 mins
AND IT WORKS!!!!!!!
toujours said...
i gave that mug recipe to my boss back when you were trying it, ergo, and she was all ooooooh!!.
mayo,
i want to share a poem with you. i found it this afternoon -- saturdays are short days at the shop, and so i usually take advantage of the free time to walk over to the library.
today i had such a craving for mythology...but this library had very little to offer. deepak chopra is not mythology.
so i wandered down to poetry instead.
and while grazing there, this is what i found:
What to Remember When Waking
by David Whyte
In that first
hardly noticed
moment
in which you wake,
coming back
to this life
from the other
more secret,
moveable
and frighteningly
honest
world
where everything
began,
there is a small
opening
into the day
which closes
the moment
you begin
your plans.
What you can plan
is too small
for you to live.
What you can live
wholeheartedly
will make plans
enough
for the vitality
hidden in your sleep.
To be human
is to become visible
while carrying
what is hidden
as a gift to others.
To remember
the other world
in this world
is to live in your
true inheritance.
You are not
a troubled guest
on this earth,
you are not
an accident
amidst other accidents
you were invited
from another and greater
night
than the one
from which
you have just emerged.
Now, looking through
the slanting light
of the morning
window toward
the mountain
presence
of everything that can be,
what urgency
calls you to your
one love? What shape
waits in the seed
of you to grow
and spread
its branches
against a future sky?
Is it waiting
in the fertile sea?
In the trees
beyond the house?
In the life
you can imagine
for yourself?
In the open
and lovely
white page
on the waiting desk?
this poem grabbed out at me, mayo. while i read it, it became all my focus, and the words sent my skin shivering.
maybe it was exactly what i needed to read. poetry, like dreams, is how the gods speak to us.
but i stood there in the aisle for a long time afterwards, holding the book open against me as if embracing it, as if it was something dear and long-lost, newly returned.
i don't know what you'll think of it, i don't know if it's to your taste, but this poem made me hungry and fed me all at once, and i wanted to pass it along. i wanted to give it to you, regardless.
take care, mayo. have a good night, and sweet dreams.
Good afternoon/evening (whatever it is, wherever you are) Mayo, SS, Amy, Ergo, Sweetcheeks, L and J, Martha, Elena, TJ, MissT, Cookie Monster (I have a feeling he's lurking around here, somewhere, with all this tasty temptation!), assorted anons and lurkers!
How are you all, today? Well and good, I hope!
Sweetcheeks: I'm so happy to hear you made it to Texas safely!!!! Another e~mail is on the way and my phone is, now, charging so I can text you! Have fun, Sweetcheeks!!!!
L: How did the sauce turn out for you? That shrimp and ricotta stuffing sounded delicious!!!
Ergo: Who won the race? I'm with you on SR flour! It's existence is a baking miracle!!!
Amy: I made sugar cookies capable of decapitating someone (or at least cracking a few teeth) one year. Darn Betty Crocker sugar cookie mix in a bag. 'Stick to homemade lesson' learned!
Elena: How was the Creed concert? Lucky you and Stormy!
TJ: Beautiful poem!
MissT: Any word from the powers that be yet? If not, I feel word coming this week!
Moonpies for Misfits anon: I just LOVE the name of that band!!! I think they have excellent literary taste!
I think that is all, for now. Have a great 'remainder of the day', everyone!
Hugs and Love,
~Namaste~
amazing isn't it anon? I gotta admit this blog gets quieter everday. Good afternoon guys. Hope you're well. Sugarplum: I shall be waiting for the texts and emails. Hope you and your fur babies are well. It's cold here in Dallas. No kidding. *blows kisses*
Hope you're having a good time
Hi there ergo. Yeah most of the time dallas is hot but i guess the almanac is right that this year will be downright cold. First for everything i guess. Whats happening with boyzone?
Hey BC. Hey Ergo.
Can someone roll me over to the fireplace? Just use a book to stopper me and I'll be fine. I think I ate too much.
Apparently they WILL put anything on TV.
Ergo? Amy? You still here? Hello!
Original Punk J said...
Well, ok then.
Amy: Happy (Canadian) Thanksgiving! Hope you and yours had a good time together.
Ergo: We read a little about the guy from Boyzone. Neither of us had ever heard of them, but the poor man just going like that...I'm sure they'll have to do an autopsy for info.
BC: So you're in Texas? Is it true what they say? IS everything bigger and better? We want pictures! ;D Hope you're having a good time.
Wendy: L made your grandma's sauce today and we had it over shrimp-and-cheese-stuffed canneloni for dinner. MAJOR YUM! Great recipe, and L's turned out really well! Thanks!
Elena: Did you survive your Saturday night? Do you REMEMBER your Saturday night? ;D
Miss T: How are you, luv? Everything going along all right? I miss talking with you, and our snog-fests!
Martha: Where are you, woman?
Yeah, I'm still here Ergo! Wandered off for a minute. Dinner was great. We also had a salad of butter lettuce and fennel with a lemon/olive oil/salt/pepper dressing. And for dessert, a key lime tartlet (store-bought).
I iz ver' full.
Hey TJ!
OH! I finished my Halloween story tonight! I've asked L to do some sketches for the pics, she'll probably do those in the next couple of days (I hope!), so then I'll start posting parts.
It turned out rather well, don'tcha know. ;)
it's this detective show i've stumbled across on our pbs station. the sergeant has a very dry sort of humor, reminds me of someone i knew in england.
Didn't you notice what happened to the group of people who did that?
No. The people left here would never allow that to return.
It doesn't matter to them what the content is, if it's boring, or fake.
All that matter so these people is that THOSE people are gone.There's more Mayo and SS for them now. Now everything that SS does they can say "that was for the OP's", it can't be for anyone else because all the people they hate are gone.
There's no way anyone would dare to post a lot of poetry, quotes, games physics or science or anything, not unless it was one of the people left here, one of their "crowd".
Which they might do once in a while to make it look like "see, we really didn't mind it when the poetry was here.... But those people were still cunts either way"!!
toujours said...
she is, j. :)
so what are you guys gonna do for halloween?
Anonymous said...
Maybe you don't realize that the OPs or ANYone else here don't HAVE to pretend that SS is their friend. And that he does do things for them. As a one friend to another.
ergoproxy said...
have you guys ever taken ghost photos of yourself?
I am just playing with my camera, I'll show you one in a sec
Original Punk J said...
Probably stay in and watch movies. We're so poor we can't even pay attention, so it's a low-key night for us. You?
Original Punk J said...
I don't think I even know how, Ergo! But I'm interested to see how yours turns out.
ergoproxy said...
Original Punk J said...
EEEP! Ergo, you haz give me a scare!
How cool! How'd you do that?
toujours said...
how did you do that ergo?! that is cool!
j., i'm hoping to spend the day out in the fields and woods back behind my folks' house (weather permitting). i'm saving my first woodswalk of the post-tick-and-snake season for the day, it should be nice. :)
Anonymous said...
11:34, SS did things for everyone, not just you and your friends. But most of those people are gone now, and it's probably due to the harassment that went on. Why did the harassment go on? For no other reason than that Mayo and SS spoke to them, instead of speaking exclusively to you and yours.
ergoproxy said...
well I just concentrate on becoming ectoplasmic......
LOL
you do it with a long exposure, anything that doesn't move gets in the final picture, you could set a camera for hours and have people walk past it all the time but you'll get a photo with no one in it, that is how they can et pics of buildings etc in busy streets, as long as something moves it won't show up, it gets exposed over, if you get what I mean
so if you are still for a short time, it'll only get a bit of you
so that was set for 10sec, I walked in and sat on the chair for about 4 sec then got up and walked out, but you only see when I was still and it fades as the other stuff is exposed over it.
It has explained a number of reputed ghost photos when they ahve been set cameras on long exposure. I saw it on a show about ghost photography
Anonymous said...
11:53, why don't you go whine about it with them at their secret blog if it still upsets you that they're gone.
You lost. Put on your big girl panties and deal with it.
Original Punk J said...
That sounds like a nice day, TJ. Just strolling through the woods, enjoying the sunshine and leaves and small furry animals!
How cool is that, Ergo? As I was reading your explanation, I was thinking, "I'll bet that's how they take pics for paranormal programs." :)
Don't know if you know realise this but you're funny 11:29.
toujours said...
i knew abit about different exposures (from amateur astronomy) but i never would've figured out how to use it like that -- very nifty! i want to try it now, but i don't have a camera that has that option!
Hi blog and bloggers.
i've got my fingers crossed that there will be sunshine that day! we're having quite the blustery autumn, as well you know. i can do rain, but probably shouldn't be out all day in a storm.
or so i'm told.
toujours said...
hi bc, how are you doing? how's the trip so far?
and hello there, 8:43. :)
Anonymous said...
I'm glad you think it's funny.
And you can call it "whining" if you want. But what about all the "whining" you and your friends when Mayo and SS were enjoying the poetry? All the "whining" and the harassment? I guess that was different.....
ergoproxy said...
TJ I think you should try the photos in the woods
I bet you'd have great backgrounds, and your hair would look cool
evening is a good time to do it, as the light is nicer, also it's less likely to overexpose (I had to avoid windows and turn the fishtank light off or they come out really bright
J there are heaps of them that people have tried to pass off, thing is it's a very easy technique and not always easy to discount
but it is fun to do, you should try it too
most cameras have a way of adjusting the exposure time, in a manual mode
ergoproxy said...
what options does your camera have TJ? If it has a night mode it'd give you a few seconds in dim light if you can keep the flash off
Original Punk J said...
BC, maybe you should look more closely, and in different...areas. ;D What's shakin' down Texas way?
Hello 8.43, how are you?
Yeah, TJ, I like wind (as long as my hair's up), but storms? I want to be inside for those.
ergoproxy said...
oh hi BC! I missed you there, was the trip ok? Your butt gotten it's feeling back? lol
Anonymous said...
ooh, i think it does have a night mode, ergo!
oh yes. this is going to be fun.
Still being funny 11:29. Stop. You're slaying me.
Post a poem or music quote. Post a physics theory. Post something besides complaints, accusations, and revisionist history.
"
Not after what happened to the others who did that. The worst thing that could happen to them was Mayo and SS acknowledging them. Then came the Fix, the Guidelines, and me and everyone else fining out way too much about the people who were being acknowledged.
Lives got changed in a bad way over poetry, quotes and physics. I'm not stupid enough (no offense to the others who did) to post any of that because I would want to post it, and pick a name to go along with it and I can just see it getting dragged through the mud if Mayo or SS ever spoke to me.
No thanks.
Anonymous said...
"Post something besides complaints, accusations, and revisionist history."
The only revisionist history is yours. You "won" the blog and history is written by the victors. This is the perfect example.
Good thing that everyone saw how you all behaved. You can say all you want that you didn't but it is still all back there in those pages.
I think you're actually lucky that Mayo and SS don't actually care, because I'm sure they would remember too. If they cared enough to pay attention.
ergoproxy said...
hi and goodnight anon
Original Punk J said...
Original Punk J said...
8.43, I iz well, as well. Thanks to you for asking, too. Have a wonderful day tomorrow.
Goodnight. :)
Anonymous said...
Mayo and SS don't care? I beg to differ. Look at his most recent comment, which IS to the OPs, and look at his blog.
And Mayo still comes in to talk too. Jsut because he's not talking about poetry or physics or the things that YOU like does not mean he's not interested in the people here. He's not some kind of snob who thinks he's too good for others.
Unlike some people I could mention.
ergoproxy said...
TJ it's worth having a try, just try it out in dim light and see how long the shutter is open, then give it a go!
Original Punk J said...
I'll have to look at my camera to see if it has adjustable exposure times. It should, I guess; I've had it only a couple of years, and it's a Fuji.
Anonymous said...
It is a case of sour grapes. Typical of people being butthurt because they knew that they were not as likable as some others, and getting called out on their bad behavior. Behavior designed to do nothing more than get attention.
And they got called on it.
That's the end of the story. Let it rest now.
look in the manual, for manual adjustment (lol)
