Theory of Degeneration.

For as long as I can remember, I have collected little bits and pieces of people. Not eyeballs and arms, or blood and guts, but their lives, their actions, moments and movements…the way they walk or speak. I watch and listen, collecting fragments and still-frames of lives of which I know nothing. I keep these parts, and then when I am ready I attribute my own perceptions to their actions; I make up stories. I am a thief. And from what I collect, I assemble.

The way a woman, carrying her child on her hip, hesitates while crossing the street. Wrapping her hand protectively around her child’s head, she holds her breath and second guesses the crisp-suited businessman will run the red light because he is distracted talking to his mistress, and he has only five minutes to make plans with her before he meets his wife for lunch. The woman knows this because her husband left her last year for his secretary. He told her over lunch.

The way coffee shop patrons cast questioning glances at the man sitting alone at the back of the room. His eyes are downcast, and he is spinning an empty cup. He rarely moves, and never speaks. Across from him sits an empty chair, a full cup of coffee, and an uneaten pastry. Patrons avoid him, falsely assuming he is homeless or insane, because of his sour body odor and dirty clothes. It is true; he hasn’t changed them in six days, the six days since his wife died, the six days he has returned to the table at the coffee shop where they met. The same table they called “ours” twice a week.

The way a classroom full of students, half paying attention, all consider the quiet kid in the back to be a dolt. They see a girl who rarely looks up and never raises her hand. The kid isn’t ignorant or lazy. On the contrary, she has already correctly answered the question in her head. She simply can’t get past the fear that, once called upon, she will fumble through her speech and answer incorrectly, drawing upon herself the jeers of her classmates. She so fears the embarrassment of being wrong that she sacrifices achievement. She will later beat herself up because she didn’t raise her hand, taking over from where the others have left off.

No Longer Lost.

I don’t have to look for you anymore.
Not in faces that resemble yours
Round and rugged, shadow of a beard
That always seems present, but never more
Than a scruff. Is it you?
I never asked, but wonder.
This time I could not help myself.
Are you?

He told me you drowned yourself,
And that in the end they had made you a beggar
Boxed in pine, without proper notice.
It had been 20 years, but still I looked for you
Because you were kind when I was afraid.
But, I think I don’t need you anymore.

Right now, that is all prosthetic.

A lack of sleep and unending thoughts will either drive me to excuse myself from my obligations or thrust me headlong into achievement. Everything around me spins on, and I remain pushing my way through to the very end.

And that is where I remain, soldered to the front end of a rogue missile.

p.s. that is what makes it rock.

Hey all--

Last night I told the anonymice that this:

"Goodnight, baby. I love you.

My heart to yours, always."

was for them.

But, I was wrong. It's not for them. It's for SS. As always.

The anonymice will have to wait in line to get their own special goodnight phrase. :)

Hello Elena, Ergo, Amy, Martha, Wendy, TJ, Miss T, Possum, Far, PJ, and the scores of others who still come or used to come visit! I shall be back tonight. (L says HI! too.)

Hiya peeps, how are you all?

OPJ, I'm so glad to hear that OPL is on the mend. That's great news. I hope you are well too.

Not much been happening here. I had to make an appointment with the rat catcher who's coming back at the begining of next week to remove the second lot of poison. We don't think any more have come cos they haven't touched the stuff we've put down and we haven't seen anything, thank goodness.

I'm off to lounge now cos I'm shopped out. Mum's had me meet her on town to pick out something for her friend's birthday party this weekend. Nothing is ever right, we traipse round for hours. I'm knackered but we got something in the end.

Nighty night everyone xxxx

Before I go, I just wanted to share a story from our paper today.

Two drunk guys though it would be fun to throw a punch at a couple of drag queens they saw walking through town. These drag queens turned out to be cage fighters in stag do fancy dress. Within three seconds they had the guys on the floor in mucho pain. Serves em right hahaha!

OK gone now, nighty night xxxx

Mayo

I had a wonderful day. Did you? It was one of those days that just makes you feel so glad to be alive. Fall is in the air, the leaves are changing and pumpkin stands line the roads. I haven’t chosen my pumpkin yet, well I should say my pumpkin hasn’t chosen me yet. I’ll know the right one when I come across it.

Damn I feel good. You know that whole “letting go of negative energy” is a wonderful thing. I’d highly recommend it.

Well I’m off to the hubby’s shop to watch bad movies. No telling what title he has chosen. He’s even gonna make me a “shop dog”. Yep he builds a fire and roasts hot dogs. Yum. Now if he’d just get some marshmallows!

Hope your tomorrow is a good one. Hope you’re thinking about writing a Halloween story. (Seriously you were expecting me to put that in there weren’t you?) Oh and don’t forget to be thinking about picking a Halloween pumpkin but make sure you pick the right one. Let is speak to you.

Take care. Miss you!

Anonymous said...

I don't think anyone can really know someone else till they see the ugly side of that person. Even the most innocous and nice of individuals may have that as their "fault"; i.e. remaining neutral as someone gets hurt around them.

I understand why you view this truth as sad, anon.

Do any bystanders want me to leave this blog alone? The liquour has me feeling social but I am still rational enough to understand there may be many who dread my presence here. I am causing my own paranoia due to my own past sins.

Anonymous said...

I agree with Ergo, I have said things on here I wouldn't tell people in my real life. It doesn't always have to make sense. Maybe it's a new form of therapy? (Not to imply that all those here need therapy)

ergoproxy said...

nope, no problem KI

Cool paper J! I have used some like that before, looks really happy

toujours said...

the paper is great, j. -- looks like a fun package. :)

katherine, i have no problem with you being here.

i've often thought that blog-writing is different than journal-writing (or talking to people who know you in real life) because you don't know who you're writing for, not really, so you're always considering how best to get your point across. you end up explaining things to yourself in a way that you wouldn't if you were talking to someone who already knew you.

Anonymous said...

There is no problem with sorting thoughts. There are things called journals. Constantly revelations of a public nature just seems like broadcasting to obtain an response of some sort. For me, anyway.

Anonymous said...

I think there is a certain safety to confessing parts of yourself to someone without a tangible identity.

Lack of judgment, consequence.

Whereas those you know in your real life, people you have to see again may use those secrets against you or look at you funny.

Lack of judgment and consequences for the people who are left here KI. I guess you missed Sdock's real name getting revealed, OPJ accusing Fimble Star of framing her when she accidentally anoned signed in, and Mya writing an email to get K fired.

I feel like people here only pretend to :connect with friends", instead there really just waiting for Mayo and SS to comment back to them. And now they are on their very best behaviour so that they look better in those two pairs of eyes.

Anonymous said...

And who doesn't even respond.

Good point.

Goodnight TJ, and good luck at the store tomorrow.

Anonymous said...

Could be. You could be generalizing.

Anonymous said...

12:44, and everyone else questioning this, Mayo and SS still do respond to the people here. If they didn't feel friendship and loyalty to the people here, they wouldn't bother. Just because you don't see the responses doesn't mean they are not happening.

Katherine, I say the same to you. Just because you don't see the affection that Mayo and SS hold for the Lovelies doesn't mean it does not exist.

Anonymous said...

SS has always been particularly close to OPJ and I don't see that changing any time soon.

Anonymous said...

This is nothing about looking good in front of a pair of people you don't even know. It's about whether you consider this a form of friendship because in my eyes friends exchange words and acknowledge each other.

Anonymous said...

This is not a blog for Bekki's and that's all I will say on that subject. The true Lovelies are here on this blog, where we belong. You can question that all you want but it is not going to change.

Anonymous said...

It's about whether you consider this a form of friendship because in my eyes friends exchange words and acknowledge each other."

Just because you don't see it does NOT mean it's not there. They acknowledge each other all the times in ways yo don't even see.

Anonymous said...

Just try to remember that they really can't be too public about their acknowledgment. And if you want to know why, it's because of prying people like you, anon.

Anonymous said...

That's precisely it 12:47. They don't bother. I'd like to know how as adults you can tolerate and call it a friendship of any sort. Or is it more your feelings projected to them?

Anonymous said...

Once again, just because YOU don't see the exchange of affection doesn't mean it's not there. It is just not meant for your eyes. If you don't understand it, too bad.

Anonymous said...

12:50 people say those sorts of things to themselves to justify a connection when in reality there is nothing.

Anonymous said...

KI you just called everyone here an attention whore. Does that make you feel good? You, the one who PRETENDED to be Mayo - for attention?

Original Punk J said...

"The true Lovelies are here on this blog, where we belong."

I don't know who this "we" is, but it's not any of the remaining blues. I would thank you not to speak for me, anon.

You can spend the rest of the night arguing with yourselves, but I'm going to bed.

Goodnight Lovelies, Mayo, and SS--have a great tomorrow.

Anonymous said...

Not meant for my eyes Sounds like a real reality based friendship.

Anonymous said...

Well you are doing the opposite kind of justification 12:55. Justifying your disbelief by saying "*I* don't personally have any proof of Mayo's and Ss's friendship to the Lovelies". Like I said just because YOU don't see the proof, the exchange, the things that Mayo and SS say to us doesn't mean it's not true. It is purposely kept from the grasp of people like yourself.

Anonymous said...

Good night, OPJ, you are a tried and true Lovely. I'm going to bed too, there's no use in trying to prove things to people who don't want to believe it.

Have fun with your disbelief in true friendship, anon.

I don't really care 12:58. You can keep them to yourself. It's quite funny to read things like this and it also implies to me you have not experienced many satisfying adult relationships.

Like I said just because YOU don't see the proof, the exchange, the things that Mayo and SS say to us doesn't mean it's not true. It is purposely kept from the grasp of people like yourself.

So what are you saying now? You have some sort of exclusivity to someone, some sort of mental ownership of that person because they represent someone desired by you. Isn't that a very immature way to think? Seems to me you are trying to convince yourselves that something must exist cause I'm quite certain if this were a real life friendship, this would not be tolerated.

Anonymous said...

anon don't presume to speak for me either, as you most certainly don't

Well, why are you presuming that I am?

I bet you all expected me to come in singing one of the new KISS tunes. Ummm, hmmm! I decided to surpise ya'll! (Besides, SONIC BOOM and VENUS DOOM just seem to sort of go together! They rhyme so perfectly!!!) Fear not; new KISS songs shall be sung soon!

Good morning/afternoon/evening Mayo, SS, Martha, Sweetcheeks, Amy, J and L, Ergo, Elena, MissT, TJ, KI, realists, surrealists, dreamers and day~trippers!!!

How are you all today? Happy, well and without a sore arm from the flu shot, I hope!

Martha: I am loving those new Disney princes!!! I particularly like Eric, Jim and Tarzan with those dreads!!! My personal favorite was John though! I love that 'strategically' place tail!!!

Ergo: Your porch/patio/outdoor dining area looks lovely!!!

Amy: I'm so happy to happy to hear the kitty cat wasn't too stressed after that run in with the interlopers!

*shakes head*

MissT: I'm also happy to hear those "women" weren't too stressed out by their ordeal!

*shakes head again*

And, I'm glad to hear the dead vermin and ewwww are all gone! Now, what shall we do about that big rat? Does he like munching on peanut butter sandwiches while blaring his music for all the neighbors to hear ~ at night?

*wicked laugh and big wink*

J and L: I'm so glad to hear you're both feeling better!!!! I really like that wrapping paper, J. Good choice, methinks!

Elena: How was that shop dog? Did Mr. Elena roast one for Jake too?

Sweetcheeks: My show is next week!!!! YAY! I'm so excited (again). I'm sorry it looks as though you won't be able to make yours. I suppose I'll just have to enjoy myself twice as much!

;)

TJ: How are those driving lessons coming along? Have you ventured out onto the highway yet?

Ghost Lab watching anon: Yep, you don't get much more southern than Shreveport and St. Francisville, LA. So, what were all those Louzianna ghosts up to? I missed it. Shucks!

I think that is all, for now. Have a great day, everyone!

You know, the "I understand and I wish to continue" warning.

Sweetcheeks: I really wish you could make that show! I know you would love it and have such a great time!
------------------------------------

I just checked the website the other day and found out that tickets were already sold out for my show, and it's possible I still might be able to make it. There's probably a slight chance I could make it to the NOLA show, but the chances are slim.

Anyways, I hope you're well sugarplum. I'm gonna send you an email right now.

Hello to anyone else about, hope you're well.

Anon616 said...

Sweetcheeks!!!! I just sent you a dm on twitter (I was bothering folks there ~ for a while :P)!

I hope you and your family have a safe and fun trip. I really hope you can make it down to NOLA! It would be especially great if you could make it here for the show on Monday! If not, we shall "do it" another time.

:D

Safe travels, sweetcheeks!!! I'll talk to you soon!

*blows bon voyage kisses*

Mayo, SS, Sweetcheeks, Martha, Ergo, everyone...
I finally found it!

It what, you may ask? Well, a song/Stage Dolls cover I happen to LOVE. I've only been trying to find this particular cover since MiW took it off their myspace a couple of years ago (and someone today reminded me of this). Humph... I know! And, they knew how much I love it too.

;)

Okay, here it is. The song I've been searching for... for two (or three ~ I forget, time does fly) years:

~~~LOVE CRIES by Malice In Wonderland!~~~
The lyrics for anyone who would like to sing along:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As she drives, through the town
where she once, played around
in these streets
oh memories, are what's left here
little note, on her bed
just some words, that leave it all unsaid
oh Mama don't you cry
hey Papa don't ask why
Love cries, love burns
love drives you, to the point of no return
love lies, love burns
love drives you, to the point of no return
Restless boy, took her heart
like a toy, he tore it all apart
in her mind, she'll never love again
with the wind, in her hair
she stops and says a little prayer
oh Mama don't you cry
hey Papa don't ask why
Love cries, love burns
love drives you, to the point of no return
love lies, love burns
love drives you, to the point of no return
Under a purple sky
she turns her head,
and says goodbye
Love cries, love burns
love drives you, to the point of no return
love lies, love burns
love drives you, to the point of no return

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Awwww.... I love MiW and that cover of The Stage Dolls!!!!
What do ya'll think? Like it?
Anonymous said...
^^I'm gonna have to listen to that song.
Anon616 said...
MissT and Sweetcheeks!!!!
*huge snogs and hugs and nuzzles and stuff*
I thought I was singing all by my lonesome. Not that I mind doing that; but, it's so much more fun when there are others to sing and dance with you!
Sweetcheeks: I did get the e~mail and I'm going reply now...
MissT: Candy tassels, that's all I'm saying!
;)
I'll see you both, soon; I hope!
and does anyone else just not really like the idea of hitting the moon with a missile?
toujours said...
i saw that headline, ergo...i didn't read the article but still got the heebie-jeebies. i mean, really, people? really?
Anonymous said...
Ergo, who's stupid enough to launch a missile at the moon? O_o
ergoproxy said...
hi TJ!
BC - NASA, tonight
ergoproxy said...
from Scientific American
I mean it's interesting and all, but the idea of shooting missiles at the moon just brings out that whole "you really wanna mess with that?" type feeling
toujours said...
hi there bc. :)
thanks for linking the article, ergo, gonna take a look.
toujours said...
look bubba, we done gone and blowed up the moon!
blowed it up real good.
*facepalm*
Anonymous said...
Hi there tj.
Ergo, thanks for the article. So they want to blast the moon just so they can see if the craters has water in it?
I can't help but think that's a bit hilarious.
ergoproxy said...
lol TJ
makes me think of some B-grade 1950's sci-fi movie, The scientist with his lab coat and glasses and his assistant (who you know will end up either spraining an ankle or becoming his love interest, or both) in a belt waisted dress, her blonde hair perfectly curled saying "but are you sure that's a good idea, sir?"
and him removing his glasses and replying "Of course Miss Daniels, why. nothing could go wrong"...
just before exposed alien spawn wreaks havoc by mutating some earth insect, like a centipede, to enormous size
toujours said...
that's exactly what it sounds like!
"nothing could go wrong..."
i reiterate:
*facepalm*
ergoproxy said...
so how was your day running the store?
Anonymous said...
In reference to the moon thing, I too thought it was decidedly the start to a bad movie, but evidently the moon sustains such hits a few times a year. Still, I'm a bit uneasy even thinking about it.
toujours said...
you guys did a good job! we had a good day, a little on the slow side. i was able to stay caught up all day. :)
the worst part was experiencing a strong craving for starbucks in the afternoon.
they really need to start delivering. :/
ergoproxy said...
that's true anon, and a french, (I think) probe crashed into it last week, or recently anyway.
Just the thought of actually trying to blow a bit up makes it feel different
toujours said...
very true, anon. it's easy to forget that all the craters are in fact caused by impacts...the idea of actually bombing the moon kinda wipes out the fact that it most likely won't explode and shower the earth with radioactive meteors that will create monsterous insects and/or superhuman powers in ordinary humans.
Anonymous said...
Good idea TJ! I was more going with the moon gets kicked out of its orbit and then chaos reigns, probably like some creepy Ray Bradbury story.
toujours said...
oooh, but that would be good too...
er, of course, not really good...
think how difficult it would be to get your daily mochafrappelatteccino if chaos reigned.
ergoproxy said...
don't worry TJ I think Starbucks is able to withstand destruction by having masses of outlets, some would ahve to be ok, then you move to wherever they are
toujours said...
oh yes! good thinking ergo! *phew*
i can see the moon right now out my window...i wonder if they hit it yet? poor luna.
ergoproxy said...
it said "tonight" this morning,which I assume means our time, in which case it won't have happened yet, but that could be wrong
toujours said...
well, just in case something really really really bad happens, i'm very glad i've had this chance to become your friend, ergo.
*teary eyed*
toujours said...
*gathers ergo and anon into a group hug*
ergoproxy said...
*huuuuuuuug*
anon, Ray Bradbury would be good, he was one of the first sci-fi authors I read
I was just watching the easter eggs on The Incredibles DVD, there is a sock puppet version of the movie - classic!!!
toujours said...
i never have any luck finding the easter eggs, that one sounds fun!
my absolute favorite dvd extra, however, is that you can watch "galaxy quest", in its entirety, dubbed in the alien language.
that is sublime. :)
ergoproxy said...
I don't have galaxy Quest on DVD, I should tell my brother as a xmas idea
toujours said...
well, it kind of hurts your brain after a little while, but it's totally worth it. :)
toujours said...
that's pretty, anon, especially the color of the petals in the pool.
and it's a good reminder that i really ought to be heading to bed! still got a shop to run tomorrow.
good night ergo, good to talk with you!
i took some charles de lint to work with me today. it's been a while since i've read anything by him, and for the life of me, i don't know why, especially after reading just one short story at lunch.
there was a moment in the story when the main character decided to make a change, and the words he used to describe it were so effortless and transparent, i got chills. i was fully in the character's head. i was spontaneously feeling what she was feeling.
amazing.
i can only aspire to write like that.
in any case, mayo, take care and sweet dreams (watch out for falling moon debris).
To find the universal elements enough; to find the air and the water exhilarating; to be refreshed by a morning walk or an evening saunter... to be thrilled by the stars at night; to be elated over a bird's nest or a wildflower in spring - these are some of the rewards of the simple life. -John Burroughs
Good Morning, Everyone!
Been a while, but doing good today, breathing, and that's a great start to a day in my book.
Thank you, all of you.
I hope the ones who think we have false friendship and concern have even a fraction of this kind of friendship in their lives. They would be lucky indeed.
Ergo,
Your house looks so pretty. Very inviting and warm. I love the open spaces.
Elana,
Where is the rest of the story? I want to know what happened! Or are you getting a big finale ready for Halloween?
TJ,
Starbucks would never be thrown of course but a small thing as blowing up the moon! They probably have a plan ready...
Wendy,
How are you sweeteie? Feeling better after your shot? I'm sure the new music and upcoming shows took the sting out, but hope you are doing much, much better!
Miss T.,
Glad the small rat problem is doing better, but I liked the idea of setting traps out for the bigger one too! Put a beer in a giant mousetrap and...wait!
Amy,
A comedian said that the show "When Animals Attack" should be reanamed "When Stupid People Get Bit." The zoo boys are a prime example.
B.C.,
Good luck on your trip! Maybe you will get to see more shows as you go along too. How's the furry baby?
Martha,
The Disney pics were intriguing and distrubing, all at the same time! Some of them had that superhero "packaging" going on!
Good Morning/Good Night,
Beautiful pictures, as always. Just beautiful.
Anon from earlier this morning,
Yeah, the thought of shooting missiles at the moon is like setting up a really bad horror film. Forbidden Planet indeed! I mean, sure, the moon dwellers deep underground may put up with the odd meteor or stray space junk smcking the roof, like we do with hailstones, but what happens when they wake up and go
"Damn! Those Earth fuckers are actually shooting at us! Xmshyachaie, fire up the ship. They are going DOWN!"
All other anons, lurkers, aliens, and anyone I missed, have a great day, and I'll talk to you later.
Love ya,
Hello and good morning TJ and L
Thanks good morning and good night anons. You both find some lovely photos. Last night I felt terrible when I got home from work so I took a shower and promptly fell asleep. Damn I slept a long time. I do feel better today though.
Reading back I saw the discussion about the moon. I have to admit when I first heard about the plan in my head I thought of an old cartoon I’d seen at some point. It was a black and white one and in it the moon had a huge face. Well he got socked with a rocket and then the moon had a black eye and was frowning. Poor moon.
Oh well I’m at work again and trying to shelf a car load of books. Take care everyone and hope you all have a great day.
Before I forget – L
I’m still waiting for more Zombie updates but I haven’t heard from them. I will be sure to post when I hear something. LOL
Mayo – workin’ on that story? Is your head filled with scary thoughts? Mine is but then that’s not all that unusual. Take care, dude.
Oh yeah I wanted to leave something for TJ and Anima if she stops by...
Remember the cool old building where we went to see MCR? Well that building, Memorial Hall, is hosting ghost hunting gatherings all this month. There have been many ghost sightings there. Also I didn't realize it was the last place Patsy Cline performed before her death. And I guess there have been sightings of a stagehand who was electrocuted there duing the 1980's. I am going to try to make it to one of the ghost tours.
Now we've really done it!
Get Ready Earthlings for another war! No, it’s not another World War but sort of… Drumrolls please…The Solar System war. Earth, our not so innocent planet is going to bomb our dearest and innocent neighbour, the moon! But don’t be optimistic about the Earth being safe. Aliens might have already heard about it and they might be coming down here to take revenge ....
Anonymous said...
NASA TO BOMB MOON, REALLY.
Nasa in all of their infinite wisdom plan to hurl a missile into the moon. They claim this is to find “water” but we all know they’re looking for an excuse to smoke pot and listen to Pink Floyd in space.
Don't bomb the fucking moon people!
Whoops. Too late.
Hofstra Student May Face Charges in Fake Rape Story
Cops: Men Accused Of Raping Hofstra Student Planned Attack
Female Hofstra Student, 18, Gang Raped By 5 Men
GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (WPIX) - The Hofstra freshman - who initially told police she was gang raped by five men and then recanted her story - will not face criminal charges, according to law enforcement officials.
Nassau County District Attorney Kathleen Rice says 18-year-old Danmell Ndonye must undergo mental health treatment and lengthy community service in exchange for not being prosecuted.
Ndonye, who has been described by prosecutors as "a deeply troubled woman," had claimed she was sexually attacked following a part of the campus night club. Four men - identified as Rondell Bedward, Jesus Ortize, Kevin Tavera, Stalin Felipe - were immediately released from police custody when word broke the allegations were all a hoax.
