Crossing-over

I am certain that when I die I will become dirt. It would be nice to consider that upon my death golden open arms will greet me, enfolding me into them like a lost child finally returned home, but that’s not how I think. Never has been. It is completely incomprehensible for me to consider that once my life is over I will hang out watching the goings on down at earth while white silk draped, halo wearing, beings circle my head before diving down to intervene in someone or another’s life.

But, I can see the appeal.

And I am relatively certain I won’t burn in eternal damnation, either. Although that option is better suited to my personality and preferential if in fact my theory fails.

What motivates me is here and now...in what I intend as a reciprocal exchange.

This reminds me to ask myself “why am I even here?” I suppose one purpose is to procreate, to replenish human stock while in turn passing on my unique, somewhat maladaptive, genetic map to ensure the future of our type. But, at our current population rate, I do not see human extinction as a concern (that is not to say we won’t run out of natural resources thereby resulting in human extinction through overpopulation). So, as many population experts suggest, I will only replace myself. Although, it was never something I gave much thought.

So, why then? I have no other and a million ideas.

And, I do have considerations beyond the here and now; I get a kick out of the prospect that my progeny might proffer our future world. That, and who will take care of me when I can no longer find my ass?

I hope that I am doing a good job, that all my experience, everything that I have to give, and all that I create proves worthy beyond my own value. I want there to be some “take-away” meaning from how I live. And when I die the only “place” I want to spend eternity is ardently recalled in the generous conversation of my family and friends.

p.s. prosperous just like him.

Mayo,
I came here with something else to say but first, Happy Anniversay! I really just came in to say good night, and I've been watching this program for a while...I don't know why, I just couldn't help it. You know, when something is so sad or just so compelling even though you're sure it will upset you but you can't look away. Hate that. It was about Proteus syndrome, where part of the body grows rapidly out of proportion to the rest of the body. Like hands or legs or a single finger. People have illnesses and diseases and it's awful but, there were kids on this program, and I have to admit it made me cry a little. They think the so-called Elephant Man may have had Proteus syndrome. Have you heard of him? I don't know if many outside London have, but I'm pretty sure he lived around the area Jack the ripper inhabited. Seeing the kids on there just makes me so thankful mine are healthy. I hope the same for your progeny.

Anyway, again, Happy Anniversary, have an awesome day, have fun, celebrate the little community you've founded, do something you love-with people you love, and don't forget to appreciate the little things :)

Goodnight
X

ANNIVERSARY -by Cecilia Woloch

Didn’t I stand there once,
white-knuckled, gripping the just-lit taper,
swearing I’d never go back?
And hadn’t you kissed the rain from my mouth?
And weren’t we gentle and awed and afraid,
knowing we’d stepped from the room of desire
into the further room of love?
And wasn’t it sacred, the sweetness
we licked from each other’s hands?
And were we not lovely, then, were we not
as lovely as thunder, and damp grass, and flame?

PLASTIC PINK FLAMINGO STATURE RISES!

College prank elevates flamingo's status

REUTERS/Victor …
Thu Sep 3, 11:23 am ET

MADISON, Wisconsin (Reuters) – Some stories don't fly. This one doesn't even breathe.

The city council of Wisconsin's capital voted on Tuesday to designate the plastic pink flamingo its official bird, honoring a college prank committed 30 years ago.

In 1979, University of Wisconsin students planted roughly 1,000 of the pink plastic birds on a grassy incline outside the dean's office.

Alderman Marsha Rummel told the Wisconsin State Journal the council's 15-4 vote ensured the event was "captured in our imaginations forever."

hiya TJ

just finished watching Cold Case Files for the day

I know you aren't into Michael Jackson news, but I follow a showbiz reporter that is on our morning show here, and he's at the cemetery tweeting about how the entourage is over an hour late and it's really hot , but that Liz Taylor is waiting and passing the time telling dirty jokes.
You gotta love a lady who'll do that!

hi ergo!

now, i have to admit, that impresses me! elizabeth taylor is something else, alright. :)

ergoproxy said...

so how was your day?

there is a tonne of traffic going past us, so their must be an accident on one or other highway, it's obviously a diversion

toujours said...

i hope no one was seriously hurt, maybe the road was just blocked by something.

my day was nice, had the shop all to myself. although, it did get a little bit stressful at the end -- i've never shipped a package to the netherlands before! *eek*

how's your day going?

ergoproxy said...

just got it on the news, fortunately no one is hurt badly
a truck and a car towing a caravan on a bridge, obviously could have been a lot worse, but it would close the road, it's the major north south highway too so a lot of traffic

glad you had a good day, I'm sure you sent the package fine
it's cool to be in charge, though a bit stressful as well

toujours said...

towing something on a bridge is always dicey, there's so little room to maneuver. glad to hear that it wasn't worse.

ergoproxy said...

my day is pretty good too thanks :]

ergoproxy said...

and the truck would be a semi trailer too, I know you guys call what we call utes, trucks

it has probably put a lot of debris around, and as the highway is only 2 lanes (yes one of the bugbears of everyone who uses it along the coast is that for the amount of use it is really not well maintained or big enough) it would close it until everything is cleared

toujours said...

*heh* that's good!

what have you been reading lately? i haven't been reading anything, much to my shame.

toujours said...

er. you know i was responding to your earlier comment, right? not the one about the accident?

because that would be bad.

ergoproxy said...

oh yes I knew lol

I haven't read a lot lately either, Elena sent me some recipe books I've been flicking through, and a ghost book I am planning on starting this weekend

I just seem not to have had time to sit and just read for ages

toujours said...

that's how it's been for me, too. i go to the library, but i just check out movies, and maybe a few volumes graphic novels and manga. (not that graphic novels are less than books...but it doesn't feel the same when i read them.)

for someone who used to daydream about actually living in the library, it is an unsettling trend.

and now i need to go, and need to sleep!

take it easy ergo, and have a good rest of the day, and a good night when you get to it.

sweet dreams. :)

mayo,

i was reading back over the blog today, just scrolling back and reading the posts, not opening them to read the comments, just taking in the sequence of your words over the years.

(years. that is truly incredible to me.)

sometimes i forget just how varied your posts have been, forget just how much you have really shared with us. it has been an honor to become acquainted with someone in such a unique way.

but you know, alongside that is the simple fact that i wouldn't be where i am today if not for this blog of yours, and its effect on my life.

i know i've said it before -- and i will undoubtably say it again before this is all done, because the life i'm living right now is one that was completely and utterly unimaginable to me, and i'm still amazed when i think about the change -- but because of the road trip, and the friends who made it possible, the friends i made here in blogbelieve, i am truly starting my life over.

this is a direct result of that.

elena and vm, who invited me out to their shows, soulconnector who helped most unexpectedly and most generously, and anima, j., and l., ladies i never would have met and shared such good times with otherwise.

none of them in my life without you, mayo.

and you created a place that became a home to me when i felt like i had none, and reminded me why i loved words, and brought drawing and art back to me, which i had thought lost in the aftermath of my old life's death.

i've said it before, and i apologize for the redundancy, but:

thank you, mayo. thank you so very much.

happy anniversary, and have a good night.

Mayo

Well today started off good and ended up in the crapper. There I was out and about enjoying the beautiful weather, spending time with my friend and then…the phone call. Stormy was stranded on the side of the highway. Okay weird part of this was that just last week on the same day, at about the same time, in about the same place, the same thing happened. She was just driving along and her car died. Not a good thing to happen when traveling about 70 mph. Thank God she got was able to coast across two lanes of traffic to the shoulder without incident. However the freakiest thing is the same man who stopped last time to offer help, stopped again today. She told him she was fine and that I was on the way. I’m guessing the guy must get off work about the same time and travel the same route but still it’s weird. So anyway once again the car had to be towed home. That is not cheap because naturally the car chooses to break down far from home. But she was okay and that’s what is most important. Crap, lately it just seems that not one day can go by without some drama. Not one damn day. And when I say drama, I really mean drama. Nope, can’t really go into detail but suffice it to say at this rate I’m sure to find a gray hair soon.

Shit, I really was just gonna pop in here quickly and say goodnight. I’ve already been asleep once because earlier I suddenly felt really sick. I’m still not feeling so good. Probably it’s just stress at least I hope that’s it. I can’t afford to be sick right now. Too many things have to be dealt with. Including a daughter who thinks getting married right now is a good idea. Shit, need to stop or I’ll really take off on a tangent. But damn it she’s only 18. Okay, enough. Not gonna think about that right now, not gonna think about anything. I’m gonna go lay back down.

But Mayo, I had to come here and let you know how important this place has been to me. Two fuckin’ years…wow. Yeah, just wow. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Take care. Remember tomorrow is another day and hey, maybe just maybe it will be one that is calm and peaceful. Here’s to hope.

Night Mayo

To the other KOL fan from the last post, sorry to be so long getting back to you.

How do I feel about KOL becoming so mainstream? That's a difficult question that can't be answered in a couple of sentences, so I apologize in advance to the people who aren't interested and who will be forced to scroll through this.

In my opinion, I wouldn't be much of a fan if I wasn't happy that the band is finally getting recognition in their home country after being huge overseas but virtually ignored in the States for years.

I got into KOL with Aha Shake (which is still my favorite), but that doesn't mean I can't like the new material. And conversely, just because a new fan gets into them because of OBTN, that doesn't mean they can't go back and discover the older music. I went back and bought Y&YMH (as well as the EP Holy Roller Novacaine) after Aha Shake and loved them (especially Molly's Chambers, Happy Alone, Dusty and the EP version of California Waiting). OBTN converts are perfectly capable of doing the same thing.

Of course there is a down side to their newfound popularity: older fans claiming that they've "sold out." Yes, the new record is more radio friendly, but so what? There are songs on it that kick ass. Crawl, Closer and Revelry rank right up there among my favorites. That whole, "A band has to be obscure if their music is regarded as having any worth," kind of elitism makes me want to scream.

The recent incident at Reading, where Billy Talent was headlining the Lock Up Stage at the same time KOL was playing the Main Stage, and thought it would be a good idea to lead fans in a chant of "Fuck the Kings of Leon," is a prime example of that. While I don't like dissing other bands, that made me angry and I will say this: I doubt very seriously that Billy Talent will one day have the privilege of headlining the main stage at Reading, nor of selling out the O2 in London for three nights, but if they do, they should probably keep in mind the fact that what goes around usually comes around. Maybe their behavior made them feel "cool" at that particular moment, but in the long run, they just came off as jealous little pricks. Not a terribly flattering way to be perceived, in my opinion.

Kings of Leon may be "one of the biggest bands in the world" right now, according to The Today Show, Conan O'Brien, Rolling Stone Magazine, etc., but that does not make them any less human, nor does it make them immune to hateful, unwarranted criticism. Even now, Caleb Followill sometimes throws up before shows due to nervousness, which is at least an improvement over the times in earlier years when he not only threw up before, but also after and sometimes even had to excuse himself to could go backstage and throw up in the middle of shows. People would do well to remember that.

I would normally leave you with some performance links, but today I will leave you with a quote instead.

"I was the kid in high school that listened to Green Day before they were on MTV. I was that kid. I had Kerpluk and their EPs and I was this Green Day fan, and then they got big. But I always still supported them, even though they got big. Just because people who play football started to like Green Day doesn't really change what that band meant to me. I've always been a non-elitist like that. I've never bought into the whole, just because a lot of people like something, it makes it less valid."

-- Gerard Way, Blunt Magazine, January 2006

Wise words, indeed. If only the rest of the world had that attitude it would be a much better place.

~~~LILLIAN AXE Promised Land~~~
The beautiful lyrics:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now I lay me down to sleep
I pray the Lord my soul to keep.
And every moment I'm awake
I pray the Lord my soul to take.

Now as I walk down this winding road,
I need you to lighten the load.
Hey, now, take my hand,
I'll lead you to the Promised Land.

One cold December,
So long ago,
We watched the snow cling to the trees.

Your lips were so warm
As you kissed my hand
We would have sailed the seven seas.

But when you walked away,
Said you could not stay,
And love lay dying like a wounded dove.

But if you come back now,
I will take your hand
And lead you to the Promised Land.

Are you feeling lonely?
Do you need a friend?
Well, is the pain too much to stand?

The seeds of love
Are sown inside
And the memories of our lives will guide our hand.

So as you fly away
I will sing the day
And meet you in the Promised Land.
Take my hand to the Promised Land.

But when you walked away,
Said you could not stay,
And love lay bleeding like a wounded dove.
But if it needs to be
Then I will set you free.
And meet you in the Promised Land.
Take my hand to the Promised Land.

Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord my soul to keep.
And every moment I'm awake
I pray the Lord your soul to take

Good morning!!

hello KOL good to see you, I agree with you on the "A band has to be obscure if their music is regarded as having any worth" attitude, to me you want them to succeed, as they want to. If they are making music you enjoy then really, who cares who else likes them or why? You don't get anywhere in life by standing still and you also don't get anywhere if you choose to alter your musical likes and dislikes on the opinions or actions of other fans.
There is a quote from a guy on a wine show I watched related to that wine drinker elitist attitude some people have and he said -"It's a bloody drink, so drink it!" and I think that could also go for music "It's bloody music, so listen to it!"
really,in the end, that is what matters.

Sugarplum: October couldn't have come faster enough, but I am a bit nervous about the meet and greet thing. I only met one band so far, but I'm sure I'll be comfortable. I can't wait because the sad fact is, I haven't been to a show since last summer. It breaks my heart, lol.

I hope you have a awesome weekend, and that you're well. I'm in a hurry to leave, got some shopping to do, a wedding to go tomorrow, and I'm gonna try to get my tattoo done before tonight. Blow kisses to the fur babies for me, and to you too :)

I LOVE Dis Guy!!
Jonathan Goldsmith as Dos Equis' "The Most Interesting Man In The World"

Who is "The Most Interesting Man in the World"? According to Dos Equis, which introduced the hugely popular character in 2007, "his reputation is expanding faster than the universe." So how could we not be intrigued? Personally, we need to know more. We weren't surprised to find out that Goldsmith is an actor, but we were giddy to uncover the treasure trove of bit parts he played in the cheesiest TV shows from the '70s, '80s, and '90s. Goldsmith made guest appearances on over 45 series throughout the last 30 years, including "Hawaii Five-O," "Eight Is Enough," "The Rockford Files," "Barnaby Jones," "Charlie's Angels," "CHiPs," "The Fall Guy," "Dynasty," "T.J. Hooker," "Knots Landing," "Hardcastle and McCormick," "Knight Rider," "Magnum, P.I.," "MacGyver," and "Murder, She Wrote." No wonder "even lucha libres remove their masks in his presence." Yet his longest run on prime time was a 13-episode stint on "Dallas" in 1989.
He Once had an awkward moment just to see how it feels.

Hard to say.

We've got an issue here where one political party is trying to force an election because they believe that they are the team to lead the country.

Last time they tried this, the Conservatives won, and I don't think they realize that if they force it again, the Conservatives may well win again out of spite.

Exactly. I never did voted for Obama. He seemed pretty shady from the get-go, and what's he doing now? All I see is him spending billions of dollars, and for what?

I'm not seeing much improvement happening, and then you got people out there who are terrified that we're becoming a socialist nation(If it hasn't happened already) I hate to say it, but I think they might be right.

The President has even been in office for a year I hardly think this is the most pivotal week of Obama's presidency. Besides those polls were done by Fox News and other conservatives. They tell you that the majority of Americans are against a public option for health care. When you look at the numbers the major are for it.

No President can keep up the high approval rating forever. Certain people just wan to spin things in a way that makes him look bad.

Anonymous said...

Hey Americans, is your President allowed to take a shit without people criticizing him for it?
------------------------------------

Probably not. We live in a so-called 'free country' and yet when one public figure or any other expresses an opinion, hell breaks loose.

Anonymous said...

BC improvements won't happen overnight you have to give it sometime. It took a couple of years for things to get this bad. It will take a couple of years for things to get better.

hello BC

Hopefully you're right anon, I guess we have to see what happens next. I really hope that they do something about the health care reform.

I'm one of the 44 million Americans that don't have any insurance. With that said, I am absolutely thankful that I haven't had to go to the emergency room with anything serious without having to worry whether or not the hospital is going to let me die in due to lack of health coverage.

Hey ergo, amy, and tj

Anonymous said...

Certain people just wan to spin things in a way that makes him look bad.

Exactly. For example, the much talked about lack of a COLA to Social Security in 2010. People don't understand that this increase is tied to the inflation rate.

In 2009, Social Security recipients received the highest increase they had gotten in years -- 5.8%. This was due to the steep increase in food and gasoline prices the country experienced in 2008. This year, the inflation rate is actually in the negative numbers, which is a good thing. This is why there is no proposed Social Security increase.

It has nothing to do with the President, but everything to do with how the Social Security COLA's have been calculated since 1975.

Hardly 11:28. The polls were done by Zogby, Rasmussen and CBS. Hardly the conservative media.

01 September 2009 by AJ Fluehr

President Obama’s poll numbers continued plummeting today with two pollsters independently confirming the precipitous drop in support the president has seen over the past few months. The Zogby and Rasmussen presidential tracking polls reveal that part of the decline has occurred among Democrats and liberals. In the Zogby poll, Obama’s support declined more than 13 percent among Democrats, which contributed to a 6 point slide from Zogby’s last poll in mid-July. Zogby had the president’s overall approval at only 42 percent.

Rasmussen polling has even worse news for the president’s advisers as the new numbers show only 30 percent of the country strongly approving of the job Obama is doing and 41 percent strongly disapproving, giving him a net negative rating of 11 points among those who feel most strongly about the issue.

At this point in their presidencies Obama and George W. Bush are about equal at 51 percent according to Real Clear Politics. However, Real Clear Politics uses an average that does not include the dismal numbers from Zogby. Regardless of the specific numbers, most polling firms are showing a consistent erosion of Obama’s position.

Driving the decline is troubling news for the embattled president. Republican support already reached a low point long ago, but as Zogby notes, Democrats have began to turn on the President who they see as caving to Republican demands on health care. Obama’s poll numbers were previously buoyed by support from Democrats and liberals. However, if the new polls are accurate, and Democrats continue to abandon him, his polls might start to freefall. If that happens, the task of recovering his former popularity will be a monumental task.

What’s a president to do?

hi bc, hi there ergo. :)

you know, it took about 40 years for the idea of medicare to be accepted and made into a reality. it may take as long for another advancement in american health care to be achieved.

perhaps even longer now, what with lobbyists and all.

Funny, when I google CBS polls approval rating, it shows it to be 56%. Gallup shows 55%. I wonder how "thedcwriteup" uses this info to come to these startling conclusions?

Funny 11:52. When I googled CBS presidental poll this is what I got.

CBS) President Obama's approval rating on health care has dropped six points since July to 40 percent, and now more Americans, 47 percent, disapprove of his handling of health care, according to a new CBS News poll taken between Aug 27 - 31.

As the president's poll numbers sink on the issue, two-thirds of Americans remain confused about the health reform proposals on the table.

Meanwhile, Mr. Obama's overall approval (56 percent) and handling of the economy (53 percent) are not much changed from last month. (Read more here.)

Americans are not only skeptical of Mr. Obama's handling of health care, but also of the effectiveness of reform. Americans are more apt to say the middle class and small business would be hurt, not helped, by the plans currently under consideration.

Still, the public continues to say the health care system does need reform, and that things will worsen if nothing is done. Americans strongly support government regulations on insurance companies, including cost controls and mandates for covering all applicants.

Yes his overall rating is still above 50% but it is slipping. No one is spinning. Just presenting the facts. Facts you don't seem to like.

12:05 it has nothing to do with not liking "the facts". It has to do with who is presenting them and how they got them. The polls that these news groups do aren't very scientific and in the 2000 election were proven to not be reliable.

Yes the mans approval rating has fallen no one is disagreeing with that fact. Just the way it is being spun in the news.

"Oh no the sky is falling. The President's approval rating dropped from 60% to 50%. The people we talked to on the phone are unhappy."

Crap I forgot to cap your name but Microsoft word just did it for me. Well that was helpful. Now if it could just write this for me it would be all good. I’m sick to my stomach and dizzy. Not a good combo. I’ve slept most of the day so now even though I feel exhausted when I close my eyes the room just spins. Shit, this sucks. I did actually go out today to take Stormy to work (the whole every fuckin vehicle we own seems to be broke down thing) but was terribly upset coming back because there was a very bad accident by Sandstone. There was a concert there tonight and the traffic was brutal. I really hope no one was hurt badly. Hell I’m so out of touch I didn’t even realize there was a concert, let alone that TBS was there. See, I’m telling you I don’t know up from down lately. And now on top of everything else I’m sick. Well doesn’t that just shuck your corn? Great, now I’m sick and pissed off. Fine, I’m gonna go lay back down and stare at the ceiling fan. Gonna convince myself I can count the blades as they spin. I can’t really but I’m getting so good at lying to myself I’ll probably believe it.

Hope you had a good day. Take care.

hey mayo,

i think i'm starting to get all amped up for my trip (y'think?). tonight i was texting with the friend i'm going with. we were figuring out what to do before the show and decided to just explore that part of new jersey. she has some favorite spots there, in asbury park and at the shore, so it should be fun. i'm excited to discover more of the region i'm hoping to move to.

but all that planning was really just frosting -- i've been clicking over to youtube on the office computer once everything is closed up, and listening to the new mcr songs from last month's roxy shows while i count the till and do the reports.

oh man, it isn't easy to get all that done either! i'm really liking those songs, they are sticking in my head and making it difficult to count out the till every night! *grin*

but it's the whole atmosphere in those videos that's getting me all riled up. i'm watching those vids and remembering how much fun it is to be in a crowd that's dancing and jumping to live loud music, and how much i miss it, and how alive i feel when the bass notes are taking up residence in my chest and the singer is handing it all to us and we're pouring it back at him, energy flowing like electricity.

oh yes. i am definitely looking forward to this trip.

now if i can just manage not to scare any of our customers with the loud music i keep sneaking onto the shop player...

*heh*

anyway, i hope you have a good night, mayo, and something to get excited about tomorrow. life is too short not to indulge in sheer joy everyone once in awhile, right?

It's true, I gots a wedding to attend to tomorrow for a family friend who's my age, so I have to come up with something to wear, and I got a salon trip I have to make.

Anon616 said...

Ohhhh.... a salon trip!!! That sounds like fun too. Are you going to get your nails done or just get a gorgeous new hairdo?

And, what the heck are all these people doing getting married at such a young age?

Have they lived? Have they experienced? Do they know what else is out there? Do they even know each other? Really KNOW each other?

;)

Okay, you might not want to ask the "happy couple" any of those questions prior to their wedding tomorrow.

*wink again*

I'm good, thanks for asking! Bre has come 'back home' for the weekend (with three of her new college friends in tow).

Two boys and one girl (who is also named Bre). LOL!!!

We're going out tonight (Saturday) to celebrate my mom's birthday.

Anonymous said...

That's so awesome Wendy! Happy birthday to your mom!! I bet you're excited that Bre came home aren't you? :)

I will refrain from asking the couple any of those questions, except maybe 'what the hell were you thinking?!' lol.

I'm one of those person who will eventually decide to elope to some place other than here to get married, with the guitarist of my dreams, muhahaha >:)

I'm just gonna get my hairdo done in time before the ceremony since it's actually gonna start really early. I did some shopping today which sadly caused me to postpone me from getting a tattoo. At least until Monday, I'm dragging my niece to come with me, she's too excited, lol.

How is the weather and fur babies down there?

Anon616 said...

Sweetcheeks: Well said at 11:27.

Nothing seems to scare us, Americans, more than the words "socialized medicine". "Socialized" anything for that matter. We no like it!

Especially folks who have had the same doctors for 10, 20, 30, 40 years. They simply are NOT going to give up those doctors, who some (such as my mother ~ and I) view as 'family').

I don't know how many people here have been to any of their "town hall" meetings on health care; but, I have.

Let me tell you, it was very interesting!

The most interesting thing about the one I attended were the questions that went unanswered.

Very simple questions such as:

If we are forced to go on socialized medicine will the president, his administration, congress and senate (and their families) ALL also go on socialized medicine OR will they continue to see doctors of their own choosing?
Who knew such a simple question would prove so difficult to answer?

LOL!!!!

And, don't get me started on the wolves. WE had that all settled a year ago. Now, there is a big ol'bulls eye on those gorgeous animals again...

So much for "promises", huh?!

Anonymous said...

No kidding sugarplum. We appreciate and like the freedom of making our own choices without having the government make them for us.

It's already happening, but sooner or later people are going to see where our country is heading. I've been even told right before Obama was elected that we might be heading in a socialized direction.

Fuck that shit.

Anon616 said...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
LOL!!! That's always a good question to ask! Especially after the bride and groom have had a few drinks at the reception!
:P
Okay, so do you a new "lust bunny" in your sight? Is he nibbling all the right places in those dreams?
;)
I am excited to see Bre again. I've missed her! I'm also excited to meet these new friends of her's!
Last I heard, Billy and Taylor were on the floor, in the living room, playing with Jude. How cute is that?! And, Bre and Bre were in her room doing 'homework'. How cute is that, too?!
Did you decide what you're going to wear to the wedding? What are the choices? It's an evening wedding, correct? I'm thinking something that will show a little cleavage (but not too much) and slightly clingy!
ergoproxy said...
hey wendy, sorry I wasn't here, got caught up watching a crime show and now have a jigsaw to do
so no, no exciting plans for the weekend lol
is your proposed public health system going to work like that? That's different to us, we have our own doctors, they just bulk bill to medicare, and if there is a gap you pay it, kids, pension welfare recipients and some specific medical cases are toatlly free. And public hospitals are free, though for non essential surgery (ie not immediately life threatening) there is a waiting list. You can't choose your own dcotor/surgeon but they are the same ones that work the private sector as well. You can choose to have private health cover, where you go to either a private hospital or a public one but have your own surgeon.
Are they proposing some that you can't make an appointment with a particular doctor there?
At least here everyone has basic health cover regardless
Anon616 said...
Bleeding Chaos said...
Fuck that shit.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Yep, I'm thinking the Obama administration might finally be getting that message. Our state representatives certainly are! Especially when THEY aren't willing to accept *it for themselves and their families.

Healthcare reform = YES. *Socialized medicine = a BIG NO NO!

ergoproxy said...

we do have medical centers which are open 24 hrs and are completely free to use, and you just see whichever doctor is free if you cannot wait or get to your own GP
other than that all hospitals will take emergencies 24jrs, public and private
plus our ambulance is paid for with a small fee on each electricity bill
if you don't do that you are billed.

Anon616 said...

ergoproxy said...

That's just it, Ergo. Those are the some of the questions they can't (or won't) answer.

And, they get quite nasty and defensive when they're asked.

Oh, well excuse US for wanting to know the details!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, that's pretty much how it is here NOW. Charity Hospital (a free/public hospital) was one of the best "trauma" centers in the South.
The problem is with the costs of "private insurance". So many people have even had to cancel their work health coverage because of the astronomical costs.
Anonymous said...
Yep, and that's also one of the problems facing health coverage; many employees these days are facing the problem of getting insurance because of the employers having to cut down on costs.
Anon616 said...
Sweetcheeks: That black and white low cut dress sounds PERFECT for an evening wedding!!!! I bet you would turn a few heads in that one!
Ohhh... I would love to see another picture of the newest lust bunny!!! If you don't mind finding that one and scanning it for me.
Anon616 said...
Exactly, Sweetcheeks! Many of these employers simply cannot afford to pay half the cost of healthcare coverage for their employees (and the families of their employees).
Employees are expected to pay more and more for less and less coverage.
Very few "small businesses" even offer health care coverage these days. They just can't afford it.
More and more people are refusing those jobs without health care coverage because THEY can't afford private insurance for their families.
Small business suffers. The economy suffers. People suffer.
*shakes head*
Sugarplum, I know! I love the dress myself I just need to find a really supportive bra, hahaha.
Actually, the picture of new lust bunny's butt is in one of my issues of metal hammer. I'll have it scanned on my computer right before I leave tomorrow, and I'll send it to you. The only embarrassing thing is that I wrote "nice butt" next to it.
well here all cities have very large public hospitals, private health cover is totally optional, except high income earners pay a public hospital levy if they don't ahve private cover
and you can choose whether to use it or not, if you don't have it it really makes very little difference unless you want elective surgery and a private room. The majority of people don't have private health cover ,which does put strain on the public system but the govt ensures the care is available. We are just getting a massive upgrade on our public hospital.
Our 24 hr centers are only really quite new, they didn't exist years ago at all, and even now are only in the larger cities. Everyone else has a GP
I'll tell you what happens to their pets. They are abandoned. Not due to lack of love (in many cases); but, due to the fact that people simply can not afford to care for their pets any longer...
Well heck! I can't sleep. This is bothering me:
~~~It really is. Another heartbreaking thing, tonight.~~~

~~~They DID work hard to get where they are. I mean, what do some of you people want from these people?~~~
They pour their hearts and souls into their music (and I'm not just talking about KOL). They get out on that stage night after night after night. Month after month. Tired. Lonely. Naked. Exposed. What do 'fans' expect from musicians these days?
What? Are they not supposed to become more popular, more successful? Are they not supposed to change and grow?
What is it??? I don't get it. At all!
Anonymous said...
What? Are they not supposed to become more popular, more successful? Are they not supposed to change and grow?
-----------------------------------
I honestly don't get that either. Some people give out very lame ass excuses to not want to try to listen to a band who some may deem to be too 'mainstream' or what not.
It's stupid and childish.
Anon616 said...
Sweetcheeks!!!! YAY! You're still here!
I know. I know! I mean... what and huh? They only like bands until they become 'popular'. And, what makes a band 'too popular' these days.
That sounds more like a "cult mentality" to me.
Are they okay if they sell 900,000 cds; but, NOT OKAY ~ sell outs ~ if they sell 1 million or 2 million copies?
What is the acceptable limit of magazine covers? Does 10 = okay/still cool; but, 15 = sell outs/sudden losers?
It's all so confusing (these days).
Well, I ~ personally ~ LOVE Kings Of Leon even more after watching those two videos. Yes, indeed, I do!
I simply can't do AC/DC (Thursday), Vampires' Ball (Friday), KISS/Voodoo Fest Saturday and Sunday and The Used that Tuesday.
Are you trying to kill me??? There are much quicker ways, you know! (If the lack of sleep thing doesn't get me first.)
;)
And, now I feel like singing "Bang Bang" (thanks to two words: shot down) again. So, here it is:
~~~Bang Bang by Danger Danger~~~

I always loved that one!!!! It's one of those "fun" rock songs!

Perhaps I'll have some "Naughty Naughty" dreams. I can hope! We all can!

;)

The third time's a charm, right? So, off I go ... again!

*hopes you're all having much better luck with this sleep thing tonight/this morning*

have you ever seen a rainbow where you don't expect it. Where the light is split by some prism, natural or otherwise, and suddenly there are jewel colours sprayed across a surface or in the air. I did today, so bright, on the back of one of my veranda chairs. Just a patch about 2 inches square. Turned out it was bouncing off a pushbike reflector. That sort of thing is always wonderful, makes the ordinary extraordinary, just for a moment.
Hope you see it too
much love EP xx

SS
I did some gardening today, planted up some pots to bring some green into a few spots outside. Nothing like a plant to make somewhere feel happier. I was stealing ribbon (or spider) plant babies, they come out on a stalk with their own roots and are so easy to pick off and stick in a pot for instant plant, so anyhoo, after that I was watching Amazing Stories, and it was one where a tv writer was truing to write scripts and ended up finding out his plant was helping him, and what sort of plant? A ribbon plant!! Just thought it was a cool coincidence
hope you have one too
lotsa love EP xx

goodnight blogbelieve, see you in my morning

When I’m sick I dream. Usually the dreams are very weird and annoy me but last night was different. In the dream I was walking in an antique flea market with my dad. We were just talking about things like we used to do. Now in the dream I knew it was a dream. Not sure if you’ve ever had one of those but it’s like you know you’re dreaming but you just go with it. Well that is what I was doing and it was so nice. But then my hubby showed up and told me it was time to go. I told him “not now” but he insisted so I turned to him and said “Can’t you see I’m talking to my dead Dad?” Shit, as soon as I said “dead” I turned around but Dad was gone. I felt such sadness thinking that I’d messed up. Maybe you’re not allowed to say you know a dream is really just a dream. I wish I hadn’t said what I did because the dream was so nice. I guess I try so hard not to think about Daddy sometimes because I miss him so much. Hell I don’t know what any of this means, if it means anything at all.

Oh well, I've got to get going. Gonna try to work today. So far I'm feeling a bit better.

Hope you have a great day. Hope everyone here has a great day.

Wish you were here said...

Am I right in thinking I heard something from America about wanting to bring in compulsory health insurance? Something about if you don't buy insurance they wanna 'fine' people 2% of their gross annual income.

It all sounds like a huge mess. I hope it gets sorted for you guys.

And hi to anyone around, hope everyone's doing good today.

Wendy, I'm good. Going pretty well. You okay?

BC that dress sounds nice, have fun at the wedding, and the salon :P. Salon days are always fun, it's nice to be pampered a little.

Good Morning anon, oh my gosh, that photo is amazingly breathtaking. I'm going to find something to use it for, it's the most beautiful one I've seen you post <3

Good afternoon everyone, hope all of you is well.

Good morning Wish, hope you're doing okay. Unfortunately from what I heard, they *are* thinking about whether or not to take out a small percentage of income, but who knows if that's gonna happen.

And thank you about the dress, although I'm still trying to look for it, lol.

Sugarplum: Whichever you decide, although in my preference, I prefer AC/DC all the way.

What annoys me greatly is when fans use the term 'overrated' especially because I read ridiculous comments about why some people don't listen to a certain band because others say that they're overrated or that their album is overrated.

I mean seriously, people care too much about these stupid labels and such that it's gonna prevent them from listening to a band or group?

Sheesh.

I really should stop because I burst a blood vessel, lol.

Have a great day everyone :)

Well I'd hope not in the end, Elena. I can't think personally, how that could possibly be a good idea. I mean, of course it's probably a good idea to have insurance (we don't really have to worry about it so I don't really know how bad it is if you don't have it), but if people are forced to buy insurance or they'll have money taken from them, surely that just gives insurance companies the green light to up their policy prices? You'd hope a cap would be put on them but, well, I suppose that's anybodys guess.

Well I hope you find it. It's awful having an idea of what you want but not having it materialise. And lol, don't burst a blood vessel. Some people are just stupid, if they don't want to listen to a band because people say they're overrated, it's their loss *nods*.

Hahaha.
Anon, all of those were very funny, thank you :)

good morning!

wish we have a tax if you don't have private health cover and earn over a certain amount as a single or a higher one as a couple. It is a pretty high income and you do get a tax rebate off your premiums. There was concern over companies raising the rates but they are very tightly regulated by the govt to keep that from happening.
That is an essential aspect of the scheme. Plus it made the companies think about coverage options so we actually have a lot more choice.

Wish you were here said...

Morning Ergo :)

So you get taxed to pay for the healthcare, but only if you earn over a certain amount and I suppose can therefore reasonably afford it? So, if you earn less I assume you don't pay for healthcare-or it's subsidised, maybe? But you do have to have cover, or do you have a choice?

Either way that does sound pretty fair. And it's good they have regulations in place, it would be awful otherwise. It's just odd for me, to think about having to worry about health insurance because we don't pay for healthcare like that here unless you want private healthcare. It's a pretty ideal system on the surface of it, but I guess that's why it gets exploited. I can't imagine worrying about whether or not I could afford to take my kid to a hospital, or whether a policy would cover whatever was needed. Maybe it just seems scarier because it's such an alien concept compared to the British system.

ONTD post. Paramore covers KoL.

I like it. There are a bunch more KoL covers in the comments. Other artists are full of the KoL love. I hope this makes KoL Anon happy. :)

Something that is sure to make KoL Anon happy.

that's what happens here too, you can choose whether you want private cover or not, if not than hospital treatment is completely free, GP's either bulk bill and you pay nothing, or you claim back all or most of the fee, depending on whether that have a gap.
It was the cost of maintaining it which brought in what they call the Medicare levy for high income earners, who could definitely afford private cover, it is too take some of the pressure off the system, and though it was controversial when they brought it in, it has been pretty well accepted and has allowed the public system to run a lot better. Even if you have private cover you can still go public too, esp if your cover is only for specifics like optical or dentistry, and you say, give birth you go public, or vice versa.

I get you on it seeming an alien, scary concept, at least here, and in other countries like you with public care, you know you will get treatment regardless if it's needed.

America certainly needs health care reform, I just hope they are able to devise a system that will work and be accepted, there are enough countries where it does work to take tips from.

It is really annoying when songs from Phineus and Ferb are stuck in your head
why do they have such catchy damn tunes????

Wish you were here said...

That actually makes a lot of sense. I think you guys have it figured out better than us, to be completely honest. I wouldn't complain if our government brought us more in line with that. If only everyone could have such a well thought out system for healthcare, it'd probably solve a lot of health problems.

It's easy to take for granted sometimes, how little worry we have over the cost of treatment.

ergoproxy said...

oh yes when you see the alternatives the fact you get long waiting lists sometimes, or whatever makes you see it's not so bad.

the biggest problem we have is supplying medical services, especially specialists outside of the major cities, you can understand why they'd want to stay, more facilities ad they can charge higher rates, but it means those of us in regional or rural areas have problems accessing it all, it makes it really hard for people needing ongoing care, like cancer treatment, some have to travel a long way to hospitals supplying it every few weeks, or they have to live there, away from families. Even some areas have lost midwives and women have to leave home to travel hours to a bigger centre to give birth. That stuff sucks.
Plus some specialist/surgery is only offered when the surgeon or specialist travels to your area, otherwise you have to go to them.
We do have the Royal Flying Doctor, who deal with emergencies and such in very isolated places who are a godsend, and also now Angelflight who transport people to and from treatment.
One of the problems in having such a huge country with such enormous distances.
