At the Home

I hate to see you
When you're falling apart
Can't you start over, again?

Elizabeth crumbles
Alone in her chair
Keeps her windows shut
To keep out the air

Elizabeth crumbles
Alone in her bed
Spends all her pastime
Mulled in her dread

What keeps her living
Is her fear of being
Anywhere other than here
So they’ll feed her too much
Or it’s never enough,
Then it's fuck you
“Get the hell out of here!"

Elizabeth stumbles
Over everything I've said
Pining words are useless
Pushed round in her head

The mystery was my bravery
I never knew what I'd get
Will it be her fear or regret?
Her confusion my denial?
Walked her shoes a while
Now she can’t turn back
So she said then she’ll stay
And I will walk away

Elizabeth mumbles
Over and over my name
Forgetting tomorrow
Will never be the same

She’s repeating her beating
Did you bring her a drink?
Why are you leaving?
What the hell do you think?
That she’ll fuck you
To get the hell out of here

Elizabeth tumbles
Out onto the floor
With an abandon of reason
It is herself abhorred

She sat alone in her room
Pouring over her gloom
Never got out of her chair
And they don't even care
Now that they’ve all receded
Into the ground or fleeted
To the wormholes
And woodwork back there

You'll find repair
Where that memory
Becomes illusory

Look, again?

p.s. in the end it is what you think you will get.

What is with all the quotes all of a sudden?

MAYO AND SS and every one else.

Look around.

Look at how nice it has been. There has been peace. People getting along. No fights, no annoying "ME ME ME" posts, no name calling, no endless poetry. No one to derail topics going on.

NO ATTENTION WHORING.

You might also notice that the Porchies haven't been around. (Unless that's them doing the annoying quotes).....

So take a look around at your blog, Mayo! It is finally the way it SHOULD be.

True friends. True RESPECT. No lies, no popularity contests, no one getting bothered 24/7.

I hope you both can see that.

Anonymous said...

sorry the quotes annoy you. e and the other anon didn't seem to mind them and nooooobody else was around. i didnt think i was disrupting anything.

live long and prosper.

Anonymous said...

Its Ok, anon. I thought you were the porchies. But you weren't purposely derailing anyone. I see that now. Carry on. :)

Anonymous said...

If the quotes are anon, how is that attention whoring? Anons want attention? And random quotes from other anons are fine, but not if they are from the porchies? Are you for real?

Anonymous said...

Those quotes today, and the poems.... lately..... have been for people HERE. For each other.

NOT to say "Oh look at me Mayo, look at how clever I am" the way it used to be done.

Difference. Can you see it?

It is obvious.

Anonymous said...

Those quotes today, and the poems.... lately..... have been for people HERE. For each other.'

What, the whole five or so people?

Super.

Anonymous said...

You OBVIOUSLY didn't see it at first, or you wouldn't have thought it was the porchies.

Anonymous said...

There is a lot more than four or five people here. You may not like it, but it is so much better this way.

Just take a look around. When those people are on, it is nothing but friendship and RESPECT.

Respect was the one thing the Porchies could not give. It was asked for over and over.

They repeatedly said NO.

Anonymous said...

There is a lot more than four or five people here. You may not like it, but it is so much better this way.'

I don't think Mayo thinks so actually. You can argue that one, but I get the feeling he misses the others.

Anonymous said...

Respect was the one thing the Porchies could not give. It was asked for over and over..

How blinkered are you? There was some very ugly lack of respect from a few people that weren't porchies. Don't forget that.

Anonymous said...

There is a lot more than four or five people here. You may not like it, but it is so much better this way..

What, you have a link to Mayo's stat counter?

There are probably quite a few lurking, but it's the same five or so that make comments. Not disrespecting them at all, just pointing out how sad this place is at the moment.

And I realize my commenting here isn't helping, so I'll toodle off.

Anonymous said...

You know I never "got" the feeling that Mayo was "on their side" or that they were "favorites". I think he liked all equally and I think he saw Amyranth's side BUT, with that said, he must see how much nicer it is now without all the fighting.

The "lack of respect" from people who weren't Porchies.... was usually in RESPONSE to the Porchies lack of respect to the others.

Anonymous said...

Newsflash, you do not need a stat counter to count how many people are here. EP, OPJ and OPL!!!!! TJ, Amyranth, Elena, Wendy, Miranth. That's more than five right there!! And the KOL anons who seem to get along just fine with the people who are here now. Notice how the Porchies pretty much ignored them? Yeah pretty obvious.

Anonymous said...

OK, 8 then, or 10 including the KOL anons... you win.

p.s. the KOL anons are great.

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said...

the fighting stopped because 'one side' left. the same would be true if the 'other side' had left. without 2 parties, it is impossible to argue...or so one would think.

good morning all!

well unfortunately quest for feral cat seems to have led to acquisition of Cat, a grey tabby who is very hungry (though intact tom) that has decided our house is a pretty good place to hang out at and who is incredibly friendly and purry :/
I really don't want another cat, but how can I let him go hungry and alone?
Maybe he can be an outside/shed cat
(my cats are NOT IMPRESSED)

Ah, crap. I have amazing timing skills. Like, the defunct ninja that nobody wants to play throwing stars with, cuz they'll end up with one in their ass or eye. I having timing on That Level- painful and bloody, with a limp. :(

Am signing dramatically and with great exhaustion.
I could go there, but I suddenly see no point. People feel and believe what they want. Polite interjection will just waste my time and make me feel sad. But, crap. Anon's please relax a bit eh? Mayo has said he misses people and dug the poems, quotes, etc. And there are -maybe shocking to some- others that do feel the same. Hi.

So 1:33 -'The Long, Hot Summer?' Yea?? Never seen that movie, sure sounds Interesting! ;p I'ma gonna have to rent that one! And who doesn't have a strangly unhealthy obsession with JAWS? I ♥ Brody. :)

Not heard that band KOL, but the anons seem like totally aswesome people. So score, in my opinion.<3

And Ghost anon! Very interesting. Miss T's thoughts on that were pretty damn cool too! I like seeing into people like that, thank ya Miss T! (And ghostly anon for the inspiration!) And Sci-Fi Anon, are you kidding? I thought everyone here was a fantasy/sci/comic nerd, uh, too... Build it and they will come, ya know what I'm sayin?? ;p

Any thoughts on the relationship between Batman and the Joker? Why won't they kill each other and be done with it?? Or is it more fun to flirt with disaster (and be a hero) than it is to stop it (or give it up)? Uh. Nerd.;p

(Cuz I can't not) To the anon that came back at me a few nights ago: You imply that you believe relationships were you can touch the other are the only True form. So my trying to convey my affection to a little sister I have never met, through email and phone calls, not hugs, holding hands or hair pulling when she is being a shitmonkey -mean's little or is a waste of our time? I hope I am just reading you wrong in that. And to be clear, I didn't say all that I did that night, just for Mayo. I care about a lot of people I will never get to touch. Many of them, from Here. But, I do appreciate that you would like me to have somebody to pinch. ;p So I'd like to thank you for the thought anon. I hope you are well.

Just wanted to check in, I hope everyone is doing well? Nothing new with ya Mayo? I hope you are doing good, feeling better. Hope you guys, Lovely's, quotey or not anon's, Mayo and SS, are all well. Love to ya guys<33

Hiya Ergo sweetie.

The healing is going slowly but surely. Still gotta have it covered and keep it dry. Still using those special healing dressings but it's getting there.

How are you sweetie?

lewishasfallensloppydead said...

Ah shits! I have to move Miss T! But nah -don't think ya a nutter! haha! (But possibly we all might be!? Hard to say!) And I would love to chat with ya sometime about all that! Have been greatly into the whole Bloodline, etc theories of late. (Have flirted with being an anthro for a long time. People and their thoughts get to me, what can I say? ;p) It occured to me reading you the other day, (althought I am not a greatly religious person and not sure if I believe in God or some form there of), as we are all made up of energy, and the "Big Bang" was in fact energy, it would make sense that "God" (for lack of a better name, word or maybe understanding?) was That energy? It all relates with ghost's, a persons soul, spirit, our entire origin, our evolution. So much to go into with all of that and how it all connects so intimately. Ya know, could just go and go and go with ya on all that! ;p But I do have to go! But truly Miss T, ya not a nutter! No worries, I think we are all naturally a little askew and some of us are just more honest about it! ;p I hope you are healing well! Good luck with the new testing time!

Ah score Ergo! Can't wait to see him! Good luck with him (and the unhappy others!) ;p Yes, fingers crossed like they never have been before! Hope you two are good! I have to be off, Love to ya!<33

Sex On Fire
Songwriters: Followill, Caleb; Followill, Jared; Followill, Matthew; Followill, Nathan;

Lay where you're laying, don't make a sound
I know they're watching, they're watching
All the commotion, the kiddie like play
Has people talking, talking

You, your sex is on fire

The dark of the alley, the breaking of day
The head while I'm driving, I'm driving
Soft lips are open, knuckles are pale
Feels like you're dying, you're dying

You, your sex is on fire
Consumed with what's to transpire

Hot as a fever, rattling bones
I could just taste it, taste it
If it's not forever, if it's just tonight
Oh, it's still the greatest, the greatest, the greatest

You, your sex is on fire
And you, your sex is on fire
Consumed with what's to transpire

And you, your sex is on fire
Consumed with what's to transpire

Stopping by - missing the Red Wings game!

Does anyone know where BC went? Is she on her trip? She's missing some great hockey! (Between my team and hers)

Amy - Mmmm Mango chicken!

MissT - I keep meaning to say that I hope your leg is healing well! I was saddened to read what happened. *hugs*

Anons - I think if everyone let things go and enjoyed our time here (incl. anons) it will be a better place for all. Its even possible we owe that to our mysterious host. Just thinking aloud - and not criticizing anyone.

:)

LEWIS!!!! - I am always happy to read you! I hope that your sister issues get resolved. I have 5 and know the feeling!

Ergo - I hope he doesn't spray! Though you prob. have to deal with worse on a farm as I once did!

Ghost Anon - Keep forgetting to answer you! I have seen the 'holy grail' myself once during a time when I was very, very sick with the flu. It was the sickest I had been in my adult life. I then understood why people are so curious about the phenomenon to which people ascribe the term 'ghost' or 'apparition' I have no answer except to say that it may have something to do with a time anomaly. An old woman had died in the room I occupied and I assumed it to be her. Though at the time I did think I was dreaming with my eyes open, though I saw none of the environment in which the figure existed and I sat up and stared for a while.

It sounds pretty crazy, but there you are. I may have seen a related figure too, and that I am ill-equipped to describe. This was all many, many years ago and I have seen nothing since.

And I have also never been as ill since, so if that is a prerequisite for me, I am happy to be blind to it now.

I agree with Ergo that MissT's theory is interesting.

Anyway, I feel crazy describing all that publicly!

And it is time for me to check on the game.

Bye for now!

Elena, Mikey just announced it over on Twitter.

But I can't tell if it's a boy or a girl either.

My vote is for girl. I'm sure Lindsay was having a girl.

ergoproxy said...

well congratulations to them both! now he'll really have some hard work ahead, new album will be child's play by comparison
Though the name is ...unusual. I assume it's a boy

I know how hard having a child is, and with all the added pressure they have, I really hope they manage well and everything works out for them and their new addition

ergoproxy said...

You call a girl Bandit?

OK back to exercising. I am one to procrastinate...

What else did you do today besides this 'alleged' cleaning?

Does anyone know where BC went? Is she on her trip? She's missing some great hockey! (Between my team and hers)
-------------------------------------

Hi there miranth. I'm still here, just been taking a break. My trip won't take off until sometime next month. I have been keeping up on the blackhawks and red wings though. I truly hope Blackhawks will win on Saturday.
We need it!

miranth said...

Hi TJ! :)

Sorry got distracted by a phone call. Was texting my guy friends during the game and one of them called after the Wings won. A huge argument ensued over where we first met. :) I was right! LOL!

Sorry Amy! Like I said, I think Crosby is super cool so I am bummed on his behalf, but I am glad for the Wings. Also people jeer Ozzy everywhere and I am always happy when he wins. He is a super nice guy too.

Wendy - Thanks for that. I am missing BC! :( Are you feeling better? :)

BC - I MISS YOU! I hope you are busy with happy things!

Ergo - You are very busy! Good luck with the new student.

OK gotta finish the workout and some chores.

Have a great one!

LOL Ergo!!! Is THAT what they're calling it these days? Perhaps I should defrag my volume too!!! I'm SURE a good defragging couldn't hurt a thing! Unless you beat that defrag a little too hard!
;)

Is Elena "defraggin" too?

And, on that note, I must be off. I'll be defragging and unsticking my sticky spots!

Have fun, ladies!

Goodnight and sweet dreams to one and all!

Miranth, has it? I checked yahoo, and the next game is not until Saturday. I'll check again.

How are you doing? How is everything going in your life? How's your niece? I am definitely looking forward to some vacation. I've been doing some job searching. I have an interview for next week, but I am also going to try going to L.A. because it's only a few hours from Vegas(I'm actually hoping to go to the High Voltage tattoo shop in L.A. and get some ink there because Kat Von D does some amazing tats)

P.S. I miss you too!

Hi ergo, good to see you too! Hi there tj *hugs*

Hi and bye sugarplum. I hope you got my emails!

oh, bc! if you do get some tattoos out there, i hope you'll show us the results? i'd love to see them!

ergoproxy said...

cool BC.
you decided what you want?
You'd have to book in early for her wouldn't you?
I need to get my tattoo organised as well, maybe in July

Bleeding Chaos said...

I have some ideas of what I may get tj, but there's so much inspiration out there, although I think I may start out with a wrist tattoo, but not entirely sure yet. I'll definitely take pics if the opportunity arises :)

Bleeding Chaos said...

Eeeps, well I got some idea ergo, but I've been leafing through some books to see what I'll start out with. Her shop, I think, takes walk-ins, but I'll check to make sure.

Other than that, I hope you guys are all doing well?

ergoproxy said...

I'm great thanks BC :]

my guy takes walk-ins but if you want one particular artist you have to book them, and also depending on the time it'll take, so I think it's best to book, saves you being turned down on a day you have free

toujours said...

i'm hanging in there, bc. :)

i've got a tattoo planned (well, two of them, actually) that i'm saving for. researching artists now.

it's an exciting thing!

Tj, that's great! and the artist researching is pretty fun too, I tried some of it the other day :)

Thanks ergo :)

ergo, i already know that's going to look great -- your dad's work is wonderful!

can't wait to see it!

yeah, it's fun, isn't it, bc. :)

ergoproxy said...

you looked at tattoojohnny.com for ideas

they ahve snails but they all look too cartoony

toujours said...

oh my gosh, ergo. i didn't know about that website. i'm all agog!

miranth said...

Sorry phone again. My friend is helping me make a sign for my f'ed up car. Its hilarious. :)

BC - I think the Wings clinched the Western conference tonight, which was why Amy was saying we'd have to wait till next week for more hockey! :( My niece is good! She has a baby sheep now and is busy with school theatricals. She's doing well health wise too. I am busy taking care of people most of the time, and its a good thing - also spending time on the water with friends, reading spiritual texts, and meeting interesting new people in odd places - artists and spoken-word poets, etc. Been to a LOT of impromptu parties downtown and on boats recently. Its good to reconnect with people after being stuck in during the winter!

Good luck on the job searching. The word is that the economy should start to improve sometime this year from what I read. Hopefully that helps. Vacations are always good! :) Also that is really cool about the tattoo! I am thinking of getting a stylized egyptian hieroglyph that resembles a cross and symbolizes safety and protection just below my neck. We'll see!

Sorry for the rambling!!

Wendy - I will check! Sorry you have to go. :(

ergo - I love it too!! ;)

Bleeding Chaos said...

I'll probably gonna have to cut this short. It was good to see you guys again. Take care.

Night night.

Bleeding Chaos said...

Thanks for the good luck miranth. I'm glad to hear your niece and yourself are doing well. It sounds like you've been really busy!

Haha, okay one last thing.

Miranth,

As for the wrist tattoo- I'm thinking of getting a song lyric tattooed on it in calligraphy. I think the lettering is beautiful because I used to take calligraphy classes when I was in middle school, but I also want a band tattoo as well.

Bleeding Chaos said...

^^Okay, that anon comment was me. Oops.

Thanks tj. I hope you have a great night!

Good luck with titoring ergo.

Sweet dreams guys.

miranth said...

BC - I think hieroglyphs are fascinating, as well as the Egyptian culture as a whole, so I understand your interest. The hieroglyphs can have several meanings, esp. when used in conjunction with each other. I wanted a symmetrical graphic for that spot and I found the symbol when I was looking at hieroglyphs in the show LOST.

And did you know that they have glow-in-the-dark tattoo ink now?

mayo,

oi, i have nothing to write about tonight. i've been sitting here with my thoughts cycling through going back to work tomorrow, the movie i watched tonight, seeing the crescent moon in the western sky at the same time that lightning was flashing in the east...

i keep feeling the urge to update my livejournal (the poor thing has languished ever since i agreed to my curfew, i just don't get over there anymore, much as i wish to), i keep wanting to do some serious writing on my stories, as well as write some new prayers (i have some ideas for morning devotions that i'd like to iron out)...

i was working on a budget when i got laid off, and now i don't know if any of my figures are going to apply anymore...

and really, how can i make any headway on anything when the rug keeps getting pulled out from under me? unexpected twists and turns are at the heart of every adventure, but hello? trying to get some things straightened out here, universe, thank you very much.

and then my head -- always looking for the meanings behind things, always finding symbols -- comes up with the question that maybe never making any headway is the point, maybe i'm supposed to be unbalanced, maybe, maybe, maybe...

wish i could've found a single image in all that clutter to build into a good night for you, mayo, but tonight it's the junk room. *grin*

ah well, you know i wish you all the best tomorrow, all the same.

good night, friend.

so I'm a softie, yep I cannot deny it at all. That little face looking up, the cuddly softness, looks like I have been adopted by a cat. I posted a pic earlier, but he's a grey tabby, and have to say one of the most affectionate cats I've met. So though I don't want him to be a house cat (as my other 2 wouldn't be happy about it) but if he wants to live outside and up in the shed, well can't hurt. How can I say no to a poor puss who is probably wondering why his people left him all alone away from home. People really suck sometimes.
Hope you have a lovely rest of the week

read above and you'll see I have a new furry, Looks like he was dumped, which I think is so cruel, worse even than putting an animal down just because you don't want to bother anymore. They can starve, be killed or end up harming wildlife or other pets. To me it's such an irresponsible thing to do. Then softies like me end up taking them in, though we don't really want to, just because we don't want them to be condemned to that life. Ah well if he is always as nice, and he stays, (and stays off the road), he'll be ok. We'll see how it goes

Havana Birth

Off Havana, the ocean is green this morning
of my birth. The conchers clean their knives on leather
straps and watch the sky while three couples
who have been dancing on the deck of a ship
in the harbor, the old harbor of the fifties, kiss
each other's cheeks and call it a night.

On a green sofa five dresses wait
to be fitted. The seamstress kneeling at Mother's feet
has no idea I am about to be born. Mother
pats her stomach which is flat
as the lace mats on the dressmaker's table. She thinks
I'm playing in my room. But as usual, she's wrong.

I'm about to be born in a park in Havana. Oh,
this is important, everything in the dressmaker's house
is furred like a cat. And Havana leans right up
against the windows. In the park, the air
is chocolate, the sweet breath of a man
smoking an expensive cigar. The grass

is drinkable, dazzling, white. In a moment
I'll get up from a bench, lured
by a flock of pigeons, lazily sipping
the same syrupy music through a straw.
Mother is so ignorant, she thinks
I'm rolled like a ball of yarn under the bed. What

does she know of how I got trapped in my life?
She thinks it's all behind her, the bloody
sheets, the mirror in the ceiling
where I opened such a sudden furious blue, her eyes
bruised shut like mine. The pigeon's eyes
are orange, unblinking, a doll's. Mother always said

I wanted to touch everything because
I was a child. But I was younger than that.
I was so young I thought whatever I
wanted, the world wanted too. Workers
in the fields wanted the glint of sun on their machetes.
Sugarcane came naturally sweet, you

had only to lick the earth where it grew.
The music I heard each night outside
my window lived in the mouth of a bird. I was so young
I thought it was easy as walking
into the ocean which always had room
for my body. So when I held out my hands

I expected the pigeon to float between them
like a blossom, dusting my fingers with the manna
of its wings. But the world is wily, and doesn't want
to be held for long, which is why
as my hands reached out, workers lay down
their machetes and left the fields, which is why

a prostitute in a little calle of Havana dreamed
the world was a peach and flicked
open a knife. And Mother, startled, shook
out a dress with big peonies splashed like dirt
across the front, as if she had fallen
chasing after me in the rain. But what could I do?

I was about to be born, I was about to have
my hair combed into the new music
everyone was singing. The dressmaker sang it, her mouth
filled with pins. The butcher sang it and wiped
blood on his apron. Mother sang it and thought her body
was leaving her body. And when I tried

I was so young the music beat right
through me, which is how the pigeon got away.
The song the world sings day after day
isn't made of feathers, and the song a bird pours
itself into is tough as a branch
growing with the singer and the singer's delight.

This Is A Photograph Of Me

It was taken some time ago.
At first it seems to be
a smeared
print: blurred lines and grey flecks
blended with the paper;

then, as you scan
it, you see in the left-hand corner
a thing that is like a branch: part of a tree
(balsam or spruce) emerging
and, to the right, halfway up
what ought to be a gentle
slope, a small frame house.

In the background there is a lake,
and beyond that, some low hills.

(The photograph was taken
the day after I drowned.

I am in the lake, in the center
of the picture, just under the surface.

It is difficult to say where
precisely, or to say
how large or small I am:
the effect of water
on light is a distortion

but if you look long enough,
eventually
you will be able to see me.)

A Sum of Destructions

The amities of morning
and the buxom habits of birds
that swing a bell-bright city
in their intelligent wings;

last night’s squall has
drawn off like anger’s tide,
the remote and muffled waters
beating solitudinous rocks

and murmurous
in the hidden parts, ebbing
and beating, of the mind
as some half-forgotten name . . .

the rain has withdrawn
like the tents and the Greeks,
like the hard-to-believe-
in days of our childhood.

Light moves, the whole
massed flotilla of morning, kin
to the upward flight of birds
returning;
and brutality,
the hungers and the hatreds
seem fabulous, seem members;
the gouty rat and straggly

root collaborate. Earth
in wounds, deaths, decays—
past hours its rutted crusts—
with the billowy sky

is the field-
upon-field, and all one,
of one master observing
the various fruits:
somewhere
a child in a cage, inferior
bodies making a passable
road, a girl passionate

with pain, an old man
watching the earth escape
like his once endless
strengths, his poems head-

long. And one fills
with awe—as the town
with morning, every cranny,
the birds brimming fire-

escapes and broken windows—
that the earth like some wise
breath never balked, a many-
membered bird-flight,

should include all,
must be a terrible good.
The eyes passing,
contracted from night

and war the stars
undertook, finally emerge
the topgallant of morning,
and those eyes roam

free as the Greeks:
wherever a drop of water
is, spindrift city of water
gleaming, there is home.

Thank you Elena. It's the English version of a classic.

The Three Little Pigs
Lang
(England)

There was once upon a time a pig who lived with her three children on a large, comfortable, old-fashioned farmyard. The eldest of the little pigs was called Browny, the second Whitey, and the youngest and best looking Blacky. Now Browny was a very dirty little pig, and, I am sorry to say, spent most of his time rolling and wallowing about in the mud. He was never so happy as on a wet day, when the mud in the farmyard got soft, and thick, and slab. Then he would steal away from his mother's side, and finding the muddiest place in the yard, would roll about in it and thoroughly enjoy himself.

His mother often found fault with him for this, and would shake her head sadly and say, "Ah, Browny! Some day you will be sorry that you did not obey your old mother."

But no words of advice or warning could cure Browny of his bad habits.

Whitey was quite a clever little pig, but she was greedy. She was always thinking of her food, and looking forward to her dinner. And when the farm girl was seen carrying the pails across the yard, she would rise up on her hind legs and dance and caper with excitement. As soon as the food was poured into the trough she jostled Blacky and Browny out of the way in her eagerness to get the best and biggest bits for herself. Her mother often scolded her for her selfishness, and told her that someday she would suffer for being so greedy and grabbing.

Anonymous said...

Blacky was a good, nice little pig, neither dirty nor greedy. He had nice dainty ways (for a pig), and his skin was always as smooth and shining as black satin. He was much cleverer than Browny and Whitey, and his mother's heart used to swell with pride when she heard the farmer's friends say to each other that someday the little black fellow would be a prize pig.

Now the time came when the mother pig felt old and feeble and near her end. One day she called the three little pigs round her and said, "My children, I feel that I am growing old and weak, and that I shall not live long. Before I die I should like to build a house for each of you, as this dear old sty in which we have lived so happily will be given to a new family of pigs, and you will have to turn out. Now, Browny, what sort of a house would you like to have?"

Anonymous said...

"A house of mud," replied Browny, looking longingly at a wet puddle in the corner of the yard.

"And you, Whitey?" said the mother pig in rather a sad voice, for she was disappointed that Browny had made so foolish a choice.

"A house of cabbage," answered Whitey, with a mouth full, and scarcely raising her snout out of the trough in which she was grubbing for some potato parings.

"Foolish, foolish child!" said the mother pig, looking quite distressed. "And you, Blacky?" turning to her youngest son. "What sort of a house shall I order for you?"

"A house of brick, please mother, as it will be warm in winter and cool in summer, and safe all the year round."

"That is a sensible little pig," replied his mother, looking fondly at him. "I will see that the three houses are got ready at once. And now one last piece of advice. You have heard me talk of our old enemy the fox. When he hears that I am dead, he is sure to try and get hold of you, to carry you off to his den. He is very sly and will no doubt disguise himself, and pretend to be a friend, but you must promise me not to let him enter your houses on any pretext whatever."

And the little pigs readily promised, for they had always had a great fear of the fox, of whom they had heard many terrible tales.

Anonymous said...

A short time afterwards the old pig died, and the little pigs went to live in their own houses.

Browny was quite delighted with his soft mud walls and with the clay floor, which soon looked like nothing but a big mud pie. But that was what Browny enjoyed, and he was as happy as possible, rolling about all day and making himself in such a mess.

One day, as he was lying half asleep in the mud, he heard a soft knock at his door, and a gentle voice said, "May I come in, Master Browny? I want to see your beautiful new house."

"Who are you?" said Browny, starting up in great fright, for though the voice sounded gentle, he felt sure it was a feigned voice, and he feared it was the fox.

"I am a friend come to call on you," answered the voice.

"No, no," replied Browny, "I don't believe you are a friend. You are the wicked fox, against whom our mother warned us. I won't let you in."

"Oho! Is that the way you answer me?" said the fox, speaking very roughly in his natural voice. "We shall soon see who is master here," and with his paws he set to work and scraped a large hole in the soft mud walls. A moment later he had jumped through it, and catching Browny by the neck, flung him on his shoulders and trotted off with him to his den.

Anonymous said...

The next day, as Whitey was munching a few leaves of cabbage out of the corner of her house, the fox stole up to her door, determined to carry her off to join her brother in his den. He began speaking to her in the same feigned gentle voice in which he had spoken to Browny. But it frightend her very much when he said, "I am a friend come to visit you, and to have some of your good cabbage for my dinner."

"Please don't touch it," cried Whitey in great distress. "The cabbages are the walls of my house, and if you eat them you will make a hole, and the wind and rain will come in and give me a cold. Do go away. I am sure you are not a friend, but our wicked enemy the fox."

And poor Whitey began to whine and to whimper, and to wish that she had not been such a greedy little pig, and had chosen a more solid material than cabbages for her house. But it was too late now, and in another minute the fox had eaten his way through the cabbage walls, and had caught the trembling, shivering Whitey and carried her off to his den.

The next day the fox started off for Blacky's house, because he had made up his mind that he would get the three little pigs together in his den, and then kill them, and invite all his friends to a feast. But when he reached the brick house, he found that the door was bolted and barred, so in his sly manner he began, "Do let me in, dear Blacky. I have brought you a present of some eggs that I picked up in a farmyard on my way here."

"No, no, Mister Fox," replied Blacky. "I am not gong to open my door to you. I know your cunning ways. You have carried off poor Browny and Whitey, but you are not going to get me."

At this the fox was so angry that he dashed with all his force against the wall, and tried to knock it down. But it was too strong and well built. And though the fox scraped and tore at the bricks with his paws, he only hurt himself, and at last he had to give it up, and limp away with his forepaws all bleeding and sore.

"Never mind!" he cried angrily as he went off. "I'll catch you another day, see if I don't, and won't I grind your bones to powder when I have got you in my den!" And he snarled fiercely and showed his teeth.
