Fried

There behind the casing, a path
you do not dare to follow.

It is fate that has impressed into the dirt
all the places it has been.

When where the earth is dry it is gone,
dusted into every other moment in time.
But where it is wet and allowed to parch
the trail remains and you can follow it
back to where it began.

It is given to chasing rat tails
and following frogs flopping into ponds.

That time spent heeding…
“You will never make it across.”

Until now that it is starved and the fat rat is slow.
But, the old black rope never made it across.

Just like it was told.
It was struck straight through
the middle, crushed.
Pasted to the burning hot asphalt
by a dodging challenge to cross.

Immediately it tried to coil around itself
to pull up from the back end, its entirety.

But it failed, and will lay there frying
until it becomes fully denatured.

While above crossing the trees, its foe glides
and swoops down between each rushing conveyance.

And they will eat!
They will pick apart bit by bit by the bill.
Because they must, they will.

LOL, I'm so glad I didn't see the movie then.

BC, if they could have had a different actress for Bella, it might have been good. But I really think they could have used different methods to express how Edward makes Bella feel instead of turning her into a gibbering mouthbreather whenever she has to say anything coherent to him.

Really, I might not have had a problem with this movie if she acted with Edward the way she acted with Jacob.

Also, I hated the hair on all the vampires. I think the director is used to doing shampoo commercials for Pantene Pro-V. Hair is not like that for ANYONE.

Also-also, Peter Facinelli as a bleach blond? With a last name like FACINELLI?

He's fucking ITALIAN. TALL, DARK, HANDSOME. NOT BLONDE, WASHED OUT, AND MARBLE.

Sorry, I'll stop now.

lol amyranth, i had to watch that movie at the behest of a co-worker, and the only nice thing i could find to say about it was "they sure picked a pretty part of vancouver to use as the location for the shoot"

hi bc, hi lewis!

sdock, i so want to click on your link but i've already had to restart the computer once tonight, i dare not! D:

Amyranth said...

Teej, there are not many parts of Vancouver that aren't pretty. In fact, I think where they're filming is just up the coast from where Mister and his brother and father are going hiking this year.

The coast of BC is incredible.

toujours said...

i used to go up to that part of bc for camping events, amyranth, and i loved it. plus, did a shopping trip to the sari district of vancouver and had such a good time...definitely one of the good things about living in seattle was being able to make trips up to bc. :)

Amyranth said...

The thing I love about Vancouver is that there's so many little sections. You drive around and there's this section full of nothing but farmer's markets and florists. You go downtown and it's clubs and bars, and you go a little farther, and you end up in a cluster of Japanese stores. If you head down by the water, there's little quayside shops and a very maritime type feel to everything...

I enjoy myself so much when we go to visit, but once you're in the heart of the city, you really do need someone who knows where they're going, or a really good GPS.

fortunately, we had a local as a guide! the funny thing is that the trip's purpose was to buy silk for garb (this was an excursion of s.c.a. ladies, you see), but i mostly tagged along because they agreed to stop at a toys r us on the last day so i could buy sailor moon merchandise that wasn't available in the states!

*facepalm*

BAHAHAHAHA!!!

Teej, I got into Sailor Moon far too late. I wanted the Kaleidoscope Moon Rod, and I missed out on buying it for $10 because I liked the show, but not enough to go and buy the toys.

10 years later, I have the manga, the artbooks, the materials collection, some posters, some dolls and I make my own rods, staffs, tiaras and whatnot by hand.

....

Okay, I'm not telling anyone how old I am anymore. I pass for 14, lets just.. stay there.

I thought 11:55 was quoting from Twilight.

I'm positive that was one of the lines from the movie.

Amyranth said...

Teej, I can't afford to keep up with things like that anymore. I shelled out for what I thought was important, and the rest of it is just for fun.

Mister collects comics, especially Transformers, and I can just see him at night with one of our children reading "And this is where Starscream tries to betray Megatron again.."

i always just bought for what i liked, amyranth, and never for value...my college friend and i used to joke that we were trashing our investments because we'd buy the little st:tng figures and take them oout of the oh-so-sacred packaging and play with them!

i seem to be leaning toward a sort of minimalism these last few years, though. i'm not very successful at it, mind! but i have leanings. lol

Amyranth said...

I leaned towards minimalism, but then I knocked over a pile of junk in the process. :P

I told Mister the same thing, jokingly last week. We came back from the Expo and it was like Christmas Morning. Everyone bought GI Joes, Transformers, Star Wars Stormtroopers...

I came home with a pen. But I was happy with my pen.

Anyway, the packaging was off, and Skywarp and Thundercracker were launching an assault on Snake Eyes and the Cobra H.I.S.S

The Stormtroopers joined the rest of the platoon that were protecting the Stanley Cup on the shelf.

lol, but you know, i always thought it was cool in the manga how he was basically the scout for the earth. that made me feel better for him.

even though he still didn't have much in the way of powers besides "encouragement".

:)

Amyranth said...

Exactly!

The manga did explain everything better. The anime didn't really have to, because it was a cartoon. Sure, it was fun to watch, but it didn't carry a heavy, underlying message. The manga was darker, and more grown-up in comparison.

And yes, at least encouragement is a power. Sorta.

And he got that cool Golden Crystal, and that priest that Chibiusa fell in love with. Way to make Papa proud, kiddo!

toujours said...

i liked the manga a lot better, too, but not so much when he was sick...i mean, usagi is fun and stuff, and you know, plot is interesting, but i always wanted more about the two of them.

seriously, manga was like my version of harlequin romances!

so sad. lol

Amyranth said...

The interaction between the two of them in the manga was always very heavily romanticized though. Unlike the anime, where there was this level of restraint, that was bordering on dislike, in my opinion. Especially in the first 2 seasons. It wasn't until SuperS that he really warmed up to her, and by Stars... well.

I won't spoil it for the people who really don't give a fuck about what I'm saying. :D

toujours said...

there was enough in the anime to get me hooked, though -- when he caught her when she fell off the balcony, and they floated down togather? oh man, i'm such a sucker for that stuff.

you know i'm going to be looking for some dvds to rent now! i have first season uncut (and the rest taped in the n. american edit) but it's in seattle. :(

Amyranth said...

You can find some of the subs on Youtube now, which isn't perfect, but in a pinch it will do for quick watching.

I watched an episode of the Live Action from Japan, and.. well. I like it, but I need to see more episodes. Definitely more manga than anime storyline too, which is a bonus.

But, I'm going to run. The cats are both sneezy, and sleepy and fighting for control of my lap, so I should head to bed and widen the battle field.

Have a goodnight Teej and anyone else boppin around~!

mayo,

oops, i really should have said good night to you awhile ago -- random internet research has a way of sidetracking me. *grin*

when i logged on tonight, i read your poem again and this time it seemed it might be about the anon situation. that idea fell apart a bit by the end, but there you go. i can't be held responsible for the misfirings of my brain.

actually, today seemed to be a day of misfirings -- i wonder if mercury is in retrograde, by any chance? communication certainly broke down today, it seemed like i couldn't have even the most casual of exchanges with my mom without it stuttering and crumbling. we were at cross-purposes all day, it was truly like we were speaking different languages.

frustrating.

and i can talk to strangers all day, be as companionable as all get out regardless what they might be saying, but when my mother can't grasp the meaning behind my words i lose all patience.

not intending to complain, mayo. it's just odd, though, and i was thinking about my day, looking for the part of it i wanted to share with you, and all the good parts consisted of the moments i was alone.

yet, even with those little jagged moments in between the good ones, it was a fine day, a lazy sunday in which i took care of some computer chores and household chores, wrote a little, watched tv a little...

and now i'll go to bed and listen to the rain. having the window open makes for a cold room, but nothing is quite a comforting as that sound when you are curled up tight under blankets.

a perfect ending to the day, actually. *smile*

good night, mayo. may your coffee be at the right temperature tomorrow, all day long.

Thanks Egyptian poetry anon, that was great. I don't know much about poetry but the Egyptians had a great way with words, although I am totally biased ^_^

Wanna hear about an idiot?

I'm such an idiot. I've had a gym accident which has put my last week and half of training out the window. I was there on Friday and I was on the treadmill. I was listening to my MP3 and merrily jogging along nicely. Then suddenly my MP3 was ripped away from me. I still don't know what happened. I didn't catch it on anything and it was firmly in place. It was ripped away with such force and it is a mystery what happened. Anyway, I was like WTF! and in the second it took me to whip my head round to see what had happened, I went flying. I was dragged along on the treadmill and it took all the skin off my wrist and a huge chunk is missing from my thigh. I'm in so much pain, it is like a super serious burn. I look like I've been attacked my a shark. I am bruised all over, my elbow is cut bad but healing fast luckily. I am in my pj's most of the time cos I can't really walk. It's very bad.

Anyway, If it doesn't look like I'm gonna be able to do the fitness test, I'll have to get a Dr's note. I'm sure they will let me postpone it. If only it would start to scab it'd be better. It's just an open weeping wound and I don't really know what to do for the best.

So, that's my woes.

Dunno if I'll be around later or resting. I'll say good evening to everyone now.

The Bootown Rats - I both love and hate that song. It's a great song but did you know it was based on a real life incident where a 16 year old girl shot and killed some her classmate. Her excuse was because she didn't like Mondays. That's why i hate it. It's really creepy when you think about it.

Anyway, I popped into say "Hey!" as I haven't been here for ages and there has been some talk about this place at VV's, so that prompted me.

Well she flipped her shit at SS twice. Once because she was "worried" because he didn't come around and comment in a time frame she thought was reasonable. The second time was she had a bad day or something and he didn't come to "comfort" her. Oh there was a third time about a year and a half ago. He forgot to say something to Lisa (OPL) and she lost her shit and let him have it. She cursed him out, said "I thought we were your angels" that kind of thing. Then she apologized to him.

She lost it at Mayo once when Mayo put another blogger's words on his front page. It was Fimble Star. He quoted her and OPJ lost it at him. She said it was "between her and Mayo" even though I got the feeling he didn't even know what was bothering her....?

OPJ also tried to anon once and accidentally called everyone "hypocrites" while she was still signed in.

She deleted her comment and reposted it anonymously. Then she turned around and blamed Fimble Star and a few others (including Miss Tot and Kapu) for faking a screen cap of the comment. The others were playing a game of hangman at a different blog and one of them used the word "little orange bees", OPJ swore up and down that "orange little bees" were the B you see next to blogger names and that they were somehow faking her blogger name.

In short she is a psycho.

"My Love Is One And Only

My love is one and only, without peer,
lovely above all Egypt̢۪s lovely girls.
On the horizon of my seeing,
see her, rising,
Glistening goddess of the sunrise star
bright in the forehead of a lucky year.
So there she stands, epitome
of shining, shedding light,

Her eyebrows, gleaming darkly, marking
eyes which dance and wander
Sweet are those lips, which chatter
(but never a word too much),
And the line of the long neck lovely, dropping
(since song̢۪s notes slide that way)
To young breasts firm in the bouncing light
which shimmers that blueshadowed sidefall of hair.

And slim are those arms, overtoned with gold,
those fingers which touch like a brush of lotus.
And (ah) how the curve of her back slips gently
by a whisper of waist to god̢۪s plenty below.
(Such thighs as hers pass knowledge
of loveliness known in the old days.)

Dressed in the perfect flesh of woman
(heart would run captive to such slim arms),
she ladies it over the earth,

Schooling the neck of each schoolboy male
to swing on a swivel to see her move.

(He who could hold that body tight
would know at last
perfection of delight—
Best of the bullyboys,
first among lovers.)

Look you, all men, at that golden going,
like Our Lady of Love,
without peer.

Hugo's "flower to butterfly"

"Sweet, bide with me and let my love
Be an enduring tether;
Oh, wanton not from spot to spot,
But let us dwell together.

You've come each morn to sip the sweets
With which you found me dripping,
Yet never knew it was not dew
But tears that you were sipping.

You gambol over honey meads
Where siren bees are humming;
But mine the fate to watch and wait
For my beloved's coming.

The sunshine that delights you now
Shall fade to darkness gloomy;
You should not fear if, biding here,
You nestled closer to me.

So rest you, love, and be my love,
That my enraptured blooming
May fill your sight with tender light,
Your wings with sweet perfuming.

Or, if you will not bide with me
Upon this quiet heather,
Oh, give me wing, thou beauteous thing,
That we may soar together.

mayo,

i think i've been sitting here for five minutes trying to think of something to tell you tonight. it's not that my mind is a blank, but that there are all these little fragments and none of them add up to anything solid.

it was an ordinary day. i had ordinary thoughts. good things happened, but also the miscommunications from yesterday continued.

i listened to a lot of music. i am right now. i figured out the radio part of my mp3 player, so i was sampling the local stations while i went about my tasks today, and my own playlists tonight. it's good to hear new songs, and even better to end the day with my favorites.

it was a three-day weekend for me, and i'm ready to go back to work, ready to take my walks in the morning down to the river and through the town.

it's just the usual sequence of days, isn't it, mayo? i don't want to get lost to my goals, but it's satisfying to indulge in the day-in-and-day-out, too.

i'm glad you're a part of it, no matter what the day was like, exciting or mundane.

thank you, mayo.

good night.

Ran down the face of Heaven this happy night.

Our kisses are but love in flower,

Until that greater time

When, gathering strength, those flowers take wing,
And Love can reach his prime.

Good night, good night;
Give me the last sweet kiss

time time time...things I don't have....lol. Going away an hour after you get home from work on a friday and arriving home after dark on monday night doesn't give you a huge amount of time to do anything. But then spending 3 days away from everything with good food, friends, weather, drinks and surroundings is hard to beat. And only saw 2 snakes too, hardly any really...though when your hubby has one pissed of black one by the tail at night and the other speckled on, seemingly basking the next day on the bank of the creek you are wading through, suddenly decides to lunge out and swim past you, they were fairly noticeable. Must have a look in the snake book and figure out what they were. Both non-venomous....I hope....well we know they weren't deadly ones at least...LOL
So hope you are well, more camping stories coming tomorrow. (bet you can't wait!!)

Hi, Ergo.

Scrobbling has to do with the music site last.fm. It keeps track of the music you play both on your computer and your iPod. When you update your iPod it tracks your plays so you and your friends can see what you've been listening to. It's a great site. It gives you recommendations about other music you might like and allows you to meet other people who have similar tastes.

Put a comma after words of greeting, such as "hi," "hello," and "howdy." Such words are interjections and usually need some punctuation to set them off from the rest of a sentence. "Dear" acts as a modifier of the name and does not need a comma. In olden times, one might have written "My Esteemed Friend" or "Most Reverend Sir" instead of "Dear [name]."

Grammar Expert said...

In other words, "Hey, Safe," would be correct. Most people (especially on the internet) do not follow this rule, however.

Clowns' Houses

BENEATH the flat and paper sky
The sun, a demon's eye,
Glowed through the air, that mask of glass;
All wand'ring sounds that pass

Seemed out of tune, as if the light
Were fiddle-strings pulled tight.
The market-square with spire and bell
Clanged out the hour in Hell;

The busy chatter of the heat
Shrilled like a parakeet;
And shuddering at the noonday light
The dust lay dead and white

As powder on a mummy's face,
Or fawned with simian grace
Round booths with many a hard bright toy
And wooden brittle joy:

The cap and bells of Time the Clown
That, jangling, whistled down
Young cherubs hidden in the guise
Of every bird that flies;

And star-bright masks for youth to wear,
Lest any dream that fare
--Bright pilgrim--past our ken, should see
Hints of Reality.

Upon the sharp-set grass, shrill-green,
Tall trees like rattles lean,
And jangle sharp and dissily;
But when night falls they sign

Till Pierrot moon steals slyly in,
His face more white than sin,
Black-masked, and with cool touch lays bare
Each cherry, plum, and pear.

Then underneath the veiled eyes
Of houses, darkness lies--
Tall houses; like a hopeless prayer
They cleave the sly dumb air.

Blind are those houses, paper-thin
Old shadows hid therein,
With sly and crazy movements creep
Like marionettes, and weep.

Tall windows show Infinity;
And, hard reality,
The candles weep and pry and dance
Like lives mocked at by Chance.

The rooms are vast as Sleep within;
When once I ventured in,
Chill Silence, like a surging sea,
Slowly enveloped me.

My Tails

I haven't worn my evening dress
For nearly twenty years;
Oh I'm unsocial, I confess,
A hermit, it appears.
So much moth-balled it's but away,
And though wee wifie wails,
Never unto my dimmest day
I'll don my tails.

How slim and trim I looked in them,
Though I was sixty old;
And now their sleekness I condemn
To lie in rigid fold.
I have a portrait of myself
Proud-printed in the Press,
In garb now doomed to wardrobe shelf,--
My evening dress.

So let this be my last request,
That when I come to die,
In tails I may be deftly drest,
With white waistcoat and tie.
No, not for me a vulgar shroud
My carcass to caress;--
Oh let me do my coffin proud
In evening dress!

Love on the Farm

What large, dark hands are those at the window
Grasping in the golden light
Which weaves its way through the evening wind
At my heart to-night?

5 Ah, only the leaves! But in the west
I see a redness suddenly come
Into the evening's anxious breast —
'Tis the wound of love goes home!

The woodbine creeps abroad
10 Calling low to her lover:
The sun-lit flirt who all the day
Has poised above her lips in play
And stolen kisses, shallow and gay
Of pollen, now has gone away —
15 She woos the moth with her sweet, low word:
And when above her his moth-wings hover
Then her bright breast she will uncover
And yeild her honey-drop to her lover.

Into the yellow, evening glow
20 Saunters a man from the farm below;
Leans, and looks in at the low-built shed
Where the swallow has hung her marriage bed.
The bird lies warm against the wall.
She glances quick her startled eyes
25 Towards him, then she turns away
Her small head, making warm display
Of red upon the throat. Her terrors sway
Her out of the nest's warm, busy ball,
Whose plaintive cry is heard as she flies
30 In one blue stoop from out the sties
Into the twilight's empty hall.

Oh, water-hen, beside the rushes
Hide your quaintly scarlet blushes,
Still your quick tail, lie still as dead,
35 Till the distance folds over his ominous tread!

The rabbit presses back her ears,
Turns back her liquid, anguished eyes
And crouches low; then with wild spring
Spurts from the terror of his oncoming;
40 To be choked back, the wire ring
Her frantic effort throttling:
Piteous brown ball of quivering fears!
Ah soon in his large, hard hands she dies,
And swings all loose to the swing of his walk!
45 Yet calm and kindly are his eyes
And ready to open in brown surprise
Should I not answer to his talk
Or should he my tears surmise.

I hear his hand on the latch, and rise from my chair
50 Watching the door open; he flashes bare
His strong teeth in a smile, and flashes his eyes
In a smile like triumph upon me; then careless-wise
He flings the rabbit soft on the table board
And comes towards me: ah! the uplifted sword
55 Of his hand against my bosom! and oh, the broad
Blade of his hand that asks me to applaud
His coming! With his hand he turns my face to him
And caresses me with his fingers that still smell grim
Of the rabbit's fur! God, I am caught in a snare!
60 I know not what fine wire is round my throat;
I only know I let him finger there
My pulse of life, letting him nose like a stoat
Who sniffs with joy before he drinks the blood.

And down his mouth comes to my mouth! and down

65 His bright dark eyes come over me, like a hood
Upon my mind! his lips meet mine, and a flood
Of sweet fire sweeps across me, so I drown

It's only cool if certain people are doing it.

good night, 10:47, thanks for infecting us. :)

It's cool when it's a part of an ongoing converstation. It's not cool when it's used to derail conversations and distract.

Speaking of infected, I think the cats are better. I came home and instead of curling up with each other on the couch, Merlot had Hazel by the fur, and she was gnawing on his leg.

Goodnight I'n'I!

Oh, SUCK.

My Uncle just posted on Facebook that one of his employees died from a brain tumor at 22.

:x

amyranth, it's good to hear that your kitties are doing better, but oh man, a brain tumor so young. very sad, very sobering.

Amyranth said...

And then some. *sighs*

I think the worst part is when they're so young. My Uncle said he'd just gotten married over the break, they both work in the oilfield, and he went to the hospital with a headache...

It must have been fast but then again six months is a long time when you're sick, you know?

toujours said...

and newly married, even sadder. i'm thinking in this case the six months weren't long enough, if you know what i mean.

Amyranth said...

Of course.

They never are, the time when you find out someone is sick and dying, and the actual time you have left... it could be years, and I think it's the KNOWING that drags on you so much.

there's actually a state of greif called "pre-grieving", it's what you do in that situation, and sometimes it can be the sharpest part of the grieving.

toujours said...

*grief

I didn't know that Teej. It explains quite a bit though, especially how some people go from that process to how they actually grieve the person once they're gone.

I've noticed though that there are more people that handle it much worse once the person is gone, so it makes you wonder if they ever dealt with it while the loved one was alive.
