Chiral

That is not me
Through the mirror
From which I see
Spouting lies
And histories
None that matter
Not to me.

In reverie
I am fabled
Often wickedly
Sprouting eyes
like mysteries
A ghost blown curtain
Through which you see.

And it cycles
Its cycles.

I do not know why.

Yeah, I know. I still get that even now. But it does get better. *hugs*

So you're liking your job more now? The purveyor of sliced meats and cheeses? ;)

Hey carrie.

I'm doing alright J, just a bit bored.

Original Punk J said...

What've you been reading lately, BC? No more Twilight books, I'm guessing...

ergoproxy said...

stupid phone back at the school now.

Carrie said...

Well, I wouldn't actually say "like," but it's tolerable. Especially since I decided to start not stressing about it, and just go in and "do my time." They've done gone and institutionalized me.

Carrie said...

Annie started reading Twilight and she is HOOKED, like a poor itty fish. Which peeves me greatly because the Harry Potter didn't capture her. It's a big WTF for me.

Carrie said...

Off to bed, sleep well, gals.

Original Punk J said...

Poor Annie, I weep for her. No HP love in the child at all? I liked the books, but the movies don't hold my interest too much. I'll go with Lisa to see the premieres, but after that, I'm done with 'em.

Do you know anything about the Warriors series, Carrie? It's about wild cats and the one housecat who joins their clan. I really liked the ones I read of those, but I couldn't take the violence and the killing parts. Made me sad for my guys, weirdly enough. Good stories, though.

Ergo, your phone is back at the school? ;)

Original Punk J said...

Goodnight Carrie, peaceful rest to you.

Anonymous said...

J, nope. I stopped supporting the Twilight bullshit. It's getting out of hand with all of the attention, and because I think it sends a wrong message to girls.

I think I'm going on that path on starting up on purchasing some Charlaine Harris books soon. There's one coming out next month.

elena said...

Sorry I missed you Carrie.

Take care and goodnight

J it's been sent

Original Punk J said...

Cool, Elena.

BC, I saw the latest Sookie Stackhouse novel at Wal-Mart the other day, is that the one you mean? Charlaine Harris is a good writer. She has a couple of other book series, one is a straight mystery and always has the word "Shakespeare" in the title. The other is a different paranormal series with the word "grave" in each title. There's only three of them so far, I think.

Anonymous said...

J, the one that has a red cover is her latest one I think, but there's a new book in the Sookie series coming out next month. It's gonna be in hardcover

Original Punk J said...

Elena, I haven't gotten it yet. Just letting you know.

Original Punk J said...

The one with the reddish cover is the one I saw in paperback, you're right. A new hardcover, hunh? I almost always buy paperbacks, for two reasons. One, they're cheaper. Two, they're easier for me to hold.

And a third bonus reason: you can fit more of them on your bookcase! And I like having more books. Lu-HUV to read.

Anonymous said...

I agree J. When Charlaine releases new novels, it comes out in hardcover first, and then it's released in paperback. And I think she has another Sookie novel coming out in October as well.

ergoproxy said...

finally home, no J I was back at school and phone was with me so I suppose it was

Original Punk J said...

Man, Charlaine's the James Patterson of the fantasy genre! A book a month...

Hey Ergo, glad to see the phone's not off by itself. Has Elena told you about her new phone? It talks to her! In a mean way if she messes up on driving directions! :D

elena said...

LOL I like the way you said that J "it talks to her." Well it does and it gets damn cranky when I make a wrong turn. Matter of fact it yells at me. Just what I need, right?

"YOU ARE OFF TRACK. MAKE A U-TURN"

But I do like how I can ask is what gas station has the best price and it will tell me.

ergoproxy said...

oh what a cool phone!
The lady who does the gps voice is from the town near me, he name is Karen

Original Punk J said...

All I could think of, Elena, when you told me it talks was Chucky the evil possessed doll. FREAKY! I had enough trouble wrapping my mind around the cars that talk to you: "Door is open." "Lights are on." Now we have a hinky, pissed-off cell phone that tells you to break traffic laws! What's the world coming to? *sob*

elena said...

Well tell Karen to stop yelling at me. I swear the other day I made a wrong turn just to make the phone pissed off. LOL

I do like it though. The touch screen keyboard is great. And getting to the blog is a piece of cake. Not that that was the first thing I figured out or anything. Okay it was I'll admit it.

Brave New World

One spoke: "Come, let us gaily go
With laughter, love and lust,
Since in a century or so
We'll all be boneyard dust.
When unborn shadows hold the screen,
(Our betters, I'll allow)
'Twill be as if we'd never been,
A hundred years from now.

When we have played life's lively game
Right royally we'll rot,
And not a soul will care a damn
The why or how we fought;
To grub for gold or grab for fame
Or raise a holy row,
It will be all the bloody same
A hundred years from now."

Said I: "Look! I have built a tower
Upon you lonely hill,
Designed to be a daughter's dower,
Yet when my heart is still,
The stone I set with horny hand
And salty sweat of brow,
A record of my strength will sand
A hundred years from now.

"There's nothing lost and nothing vain
In all this world so wide;
The ocean hoards each drop of rain
To swell its sweeping tide;
The desert seeks each grain of sand
It's empire to endow,
And we a bright brave world have planned
A hundred years from now.

And all we are and all we do
Will bring that world to be;
Our strain and pain let us not rue,
Though other eyes shall see;
For other hearts will bravely beat
And lips will sing of how
We strove to make life sane and sweet
A hundred years from now.

Sweetcheeks: Check out ZAKK!!!! I know I posted the music video for his tribute to Dime; but, you have to watch that live performance!

How's Bugsy and Chocolate?
------------------------------------

Hi sugarplum, I hope you're well. I'll check out that performance tomorrow. Did you know that Zakk now has his own twitter? You might want to add him!

Bugsy is still being his crybaby self. He's really small so he gets tripped on a lot, but he's such a klutz because when he runs around the kitchen, he slips and doesn't stop on his own, lol.

Chocolate is doing a bit better though, thanks for asking. How are your fur babies? Well, I hope. I hope you have a great time at the jazz fest. I left you a comment at your myspace by the way.

Dear SS,

Today, well all this week really, I've had the feeling you're troubled about something. What, I couldn't tell you. There's too many things to guess about to pinpoint it. It may simply be your mood right now; it could be something quite specific. But there's an unhappiness that seems to surround you and may want to engulf you.

I know how prone you are to make others happy instead of yourself. That's a wonderful trait--until you use up all that's inside you, and you have nothing left for your own needs/desires.

Would you do something for me? Here it is: do something for YOU. That would make me happier than you could imagine.

You're a special man, special to me, special to so many people. I don't want to think that YOU think you're not "worthy" of happiness. You are, and you know you are.

Find your happiness, Precious. Embrace it, grab onto it, and never let it go. You deserve it.

Goodnight, baby. I love you.

My heart to yours, always.

So I gotta admit something and it’s gonna make me look stupid but that’s okay. When I first pulled up your new post I looked at the title and my first thought was “Oh a tasty Mexican treat”. You know, a churro. I swear that really came into my brain that way. Maybe I was hungry. Took me a few seconds for the real word to sink in. Yep, Elena isn’t the brightest bulb in the pack or the sharpest knife in the drawer. But then the brain clicked and I just started laughing at myself. You know it’s a good thing you have some very intelligent people here. Crap Ergo is scary smart. I had a basic knowledge of the word but she gave me a very detailed explanation. I really wish some of her intelligence would rub off on me.

You know I don’t believe we ever see ourselves as others see us. I don’t think we can. It’s just not possible because we never completely reveal ourselves to anyone. There is always just a little piece we keep buried deep inside that no one knows about. Hell sometimes I don’t think we even recognize it. But on some level we know it’s there and because of that we think others don’t really know us. I know there are parts of me that I keep hidden, even from myself. To acknowledge those things would be like losing part of yourself. A part you couldn’t get back. Yeah, I know, not making sense again. This is why I don’t try to interpret your posts very often. I know what I want to say but the words get lost in translation. But here is one more thought – there are times when we think that on one really sees us, that they don’t really know the “true” person we are…but maybe, in some ways they see more than we do. Our thoughts shared through words can reveal things we don’t even realize are being revealed. You don’t always need to hear the actual tone in a voice to hear the words loud and clear.

Okay, gotta go. You have yourself a great tomorrow. Be creative – take a photo, write a story, paint a picture. Express yourself without your voice. See if you can still be heard. You just may find out that you reveal more of yourself than you think.

Night Mayo

So what's cookin' Good lookin'? How about a bit of Pork Rogan Josh with rice? I have some left and it was yummy, however I do add cream and then at the end ground almonds, if you've never added ground almonds to a curry you should, just brilliant! Makes it thick and adds a richness that is hard to describe. It's traditional in some curries but I love the creamy ones, full fat cream too, once in a while, can't hurt hey! So hoping you aren't neglecting yourself and that you treat yourself to the things you really like, moderation is the key don't you think?

Hows things going for you? Hope it's all good. Is the weather getting warmer? I love autumn, though we don't get changing leaves and all that stuff the days are so lovely. Though seeing how cool some nights have been it may be leading to a cold winter (not that it is anything like the freezing snowy stuff the bloggers have experienced!) it's cold enough for me! Take care of yourself

Hey you, SS!

While I was listening to that awesome music this morning I was singing out loud, as usual, and I thought about something. Do you think I could open up a karoake bar and people would listen to me and only me sing? No? You don't think so? Dude! I am badass on Jet's 'Bitch Is Back' and 30STM's 'The Kill'!!!! And how I would love to do 'House of Wolves' just one time. Oh. My. Gawwwd. See, I can't let other people sing because down here, in the backwoods, all they wanna sing is Carrie Undereffinwood or some damn Rascal Flatts. It's like, "Hello! Not everyone wants to hear you scream about Jesus taking the wheel! Damn!" WTF? Anway! Hope you are doing well! Miss ya! :)

I get to go see Beyyyunnnsay beat Ali Larter's ass this weekend! Whoop!

And then, next week will be all about Hugh Jackman and Taylor Kitsch.

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,

Ghost Town

The old town stood abandoned
left to those unseen to roam.
The inhabitants left behind
when the residence moved away.
The tumbleweeds dance through the streets
once alive with people.
Shudders sway back and forth
pushed by unseen hands.
Flowers grow where seeds have fallen,
dropped by birds and wind.
Spiders draw exotic webs
covering corners everywhere.
Doors left unlocked creak
under any breeze passing through.
Wild animals forage
watched by the unseen inhabitants
that live within in the town.
This silent town of ghosts

thank you anon, it is the equivalent of Veterans day
They use April 25 as it is the anniversary of the first landing of the Gallipoli Campaign, which resulted in a huge loss of Aust and NZ troops (and was a total balls up in planning) but from it came the Aust/NZ ideals of mateship and bravery, we know now as the ANZAC spirit, which is part of our national identity now

mayo,

the fireflies are back, a bit early. i was sitting out in the dark ealier this week, getting my first taste of the coming summer night sky, and saw one flit directly overhead, disappear, and then reappear in the branches of a tree. i almost couldn't believe my eyes.

tonight, they were dancing in and out of the trees in the woods, will o' wisps and fairies.

yep.

it's almost beltane.

in previous years i celebrated the season with music, let the electric live beat be my dance of life. this year i think i'll be keeping the holiday in a different fashion, but our part of the world is waking up, and it's time to celebrate the joy of life.

i haven't been thinking of that actually, i've been working and focussed on the immediate tasks in front of me. but tonight i realized how close the holiday is, and started thinking about the ways it's making its appearance in my life.

it's going to be an interesting summer. *grin*

good night, mayo.

"The Australians rose to the occasion. They did not wait for orders, or for the boats to reach the beach, but sprang into the sea, formed a sort of rough line, and rushed at the enemy’s trenches. Their magazines were not charged, so they just went in with the cold steel, and it was over in a minute for the Turks in the first trench had been either bayoneted or had run away, and the Maxim guns were captured."
[Ellis Ashmead-Bartlett]

"Ere another entry is made in this book we will have passed through a very trying time. We are leaving almost everything behind; whether we see it again or not will be a matter of luck. And now we go forward in the full consciousness of a 'duty clear before us', and ... we can only say 'Thy will be done'. God grant comfort to those in anxiety and sorrow and give our leaders wisdom."

[Lieutenant William Cameron, 9th Australian Light Horse]

I like those 2 excerpts. You can tell they were brave men with a strong sense of duty, honor and commoraderie. :)

you may like this story

On 19 May 1915, John Kirkpatrick, a young Geordie from South Fields in England took a machinegun bullet in the back, died instantly, and became a legendary Australian hero.

Few Australians would recognize this reference, because Kirkpatrick enlisted in the Australian Army using his middle name. He became Private John Simpson, ‘the man with the donkey’, selfless hero of the disastrous Gallipoli campaign.

Simpson typified the ANZAC soldier: he was young, he fought courageously … and he didn’t last long. Simpson was 22 when he landed at Gallipoli on April 25, and managed to survive just 24 punishing days.
Simpson the hero – and deserter

As a stretcher bearer in the 3rd Field Ambulance, he inspired awe in the ravaged troops and won the hearts of the Australian people. On landing, Simpson commandeered a donkey and carried hundreds of wounded men to safety, oblivious to the rifle fire raining down on him from the Turkish position at the top of the cliffs.

He courted death from the moment he stepped from the landing barge. As second man over the side, he witnessed the instant death of soldiers on either side of him. He staggered ashore among a litter of bodies and immediately became a lone agent, abandoning his corps and ignoring his commanding officer. He found the donkey “Duffy” and began his remarkable solo rescue mission. For the first four days he was classed as a deserter, until his commanding officer saw the work he was doing and took no further action.

~

Simpson became famous for his work as a stretcher-bearer. Using one of the donkeys brought in for carrying water, he transported wounded men day and night from the fighting in Monash Valley to the beach on ANZAC Cove. He did so, according to Charles Bean, through "deadly sniping down the valley and the most furious shrapnel fire". He was killed by machine-gun fire while carrying two wounded men and was buried on the beach at Hell Spit.
His story and the spirit of his work is remembered as one of the most amazing stories from the ANZAC campaign
(taken from 2 sources)
It is virtually unimaginable what that and other campaigns during the wars, for all the soldiers, esp WWI were like, so many young men, so little compared to the technology they have today.
But still wars go on, and it is such a shame it has to happen.

Anonymous said...

That is an amazing story. Simpson's story and the stories of all people like him are the reason we should never forget the fallen men and women of our military forces.

War has existed since man has walked this earth. Since the first tribes of neanderthals fought over the greener grass on the other side and power. It is ashame wars continue but I don't see that ending anytime soon.

We can hope there is never another World War even though the world is currently in a state of constant war and has been for a very long time.

BOOK 1, ELEGY 5

Corinnae concubitus
(Going to bed with Corinna)

"In summer's heat, and mid-time of the day,
To rest my limbs, upon a bed I lay,
One window shut, the other open stood,
Which gave such light, as twinkles in a wood,
Like twilight glimpse at setting of the sun,
Or night being past, and yet not day begun.
Such light to shamefast maidens must be shown,
Where they may sport, and seem to be unknown.
Then came Corinna in a long loose gown,
Her white neck hid with tresses hanging down,
Resembling fair Semiramis going to bed,
Or Lais of a thousand lovers sped.
I snatched her gown: being thin, the harm was small,
Yet strived she to be covered therewithal,
And striving thus as one that would be cast,
Betrayed herself, and yielded at the last.
Stark naked as she stood before mine eye,
Not one wen in her body could I spy,
What arms and shoulders did I touch and see,
How apt her breasts were to be pressed by me,
How smooth a belly, under her waist saw I,
How large a leg, and what a lusty thigh?
To leave the rest, all liked me passing well,
I clinged her naked body, down she fell,
Judge you the rest, being tired she bade me kiss.
Jove send me more such afternoons as this.

It is a beautiful night. Well at least I think so. There is a storm coming in and you can smell the rain in the air. The wind is picking up as the clouds roll in. I like this kind of weather, especially for sleeping. So I’ve got on my sock monkey pajama pants and a tee and I’m heading upstairs.. I’ll open the window at the foot of the bed and toss my pillow down there. Yeah, tomorrow my sinuses will be messed up because so many things are blooming but I don’t care. I want to lay with the warm wind blowing on my face. I will wait for the storm. I’m always waiting for the next storm.

Hope things are good in your world. Take care

Ergo - I hope you enjoyed the parade, even on a somber occasion. War is a terrible concept and even more horrifying in action, but we never should forget our heroes.

J - How is L? I hope she is getting over the inflammation (viral?) she has. Thank you for taking such good care of her. You are truly a good friend to her. :) *HUG*

Elena - I second Ergo's words - don't sell yourself short! :)

TJ - I hope the quilting event continues to be successful.

Much love to all of you enjoy (or continue to enjoy) the weekend!

PS - It is so fucking hot here, :( its too miserable to move! Maybe I will go sit by the water today.

It's most likely hot flushes Miranth.

April 25, 2009 9:11 AM
I told my mother this and we laughed hysterically! She was having kids til 50 years of age and my sisters just now have hot flashes and they are in their 50s.

I am old, but I ain't that old! :D I could be the anomaly in the family, but that would defy the odds.

Anyway, I was hot because it is sultry (sunny, hot, and muggy) but now that the storm has hit it should be better. Also the A/C needs more Freon or whatever it is.

Elena - I would prob. want to hear my niece's thoughts. Sometimes she wanders off and I find her inexplicably up in a tree painting, or gathering herbs and what-nots for a concoction or infusion or trying to make musical instruments from odd bits of things, including food!!! I would love to know how she comes up with all this stuff!

When I have to ask, she gives me an exasperated look like I should know.

Much fun!

Well the truth about a mirror, Is that a damned old mirror
Don't really tell the whole truth
It don't show what's deep inside Or read between the lines
and it's really no reflection of my youth
I just really love that line.

On the other hand...

I hate mirrors.

I hate looking people in the eye.

I never trust my reflection or like what I see.

And I'm not sure what that means or where that leaves me. I can't spend my life in dark rooms all alone, well, I mean I could, but that wouldn't make me like myself any more or any less. I would still be me, and I'm yet to figure out who the fuck that is.

Make sense?

sdock10 said...

And people say, "you're such a beautiful person on the inside" and that would be great if I could turn myself inside out, maybe that would work for me.

Not that I'm not a judgmental person either. I can't sit here and tell you that I don't make assumptions or have prejudices when I look at people. Of course, I do. Fucked up? Damn straight it is.

I guess that's why I enjoy writing my blogs. Sure, I've let people "see" me, but for the most part I can still hide behind my identity here. I speak without having to talk to anyone face to face, a conversation between me, myself, and I, and whatever poor soul stumbles upon my words. I don't have to see their reaction.

I can reveal as little or as much as I want, and then read their reaction.

Their words back to me are my reflection, and pretty much, the only picture of myself that I can stand to look at.

Endless Time
"Time is endless in thy hands, my lord.
There is none to count thy minutes.

Days and nights pass and ages bloom and fade like flowers.
Thou knowest how to wait.

Thy centuries follow each other perfecting a small wild flower.

We have no time to lose,
and having no time we must scramble for a chance.
We are too poor to be late.

And thus it is that time goes by
while I give it to every querulous man who claims it,
and thine altar is empty of all offerings to the last.

At the end of the day I hasten in fear lest thy gate be shut;
but I find that yet there is time.

Twelve O'Clock

"Mother, I do want to leave off my lessons now. I have been at my
book all the morning.
You say it is only twelve o'clock. Suppose it isn't any later;
can't you ever think it is afternoon when it is only twelve
o'clock?
I can easily imagine now that the sun has reached the edge of
that rice-field, and the old fisher-woman is gathering herbs for
her supper by the side of the pond.
I can just shut my eyes and think that the shadows are growing
darker under the madar tree, and the water in the pond looks shiny
black.
If twelve o'clock can come in the night, why can't the night
come when it is twelve o'clock?
"

A Moments Indulgence

"I ask for a moment's indulgence to sit by thy side. The works
that I have in hand I will finish afterwards.

Away from the sight of thy face my heart knows no rest nor respite,
and my work becomes an endless toil in a shoreless sea of toil.

Today the summer has come at my window with its sighs and murmurs; and
the bees are plying their minstrelsy at the court of the flowering grove.

Now it is time to sit quite, face to face with thee, and to sing
dedication of life in this silent and overflowing leisure.
"

hi elena

hi carrie

hi sdock

hope you're all well

who would I want to hear thinking?
gosh I don't know, would you find out something you wish you hadn't? That would be a huge risk
and don't pick a blonde bimbo or all you'll get it "breathe in, breathe out"
(you all know the earphones joke?)
Does it have to be someone near you? Or could I choose someone interesting like Billy Connelly? - saw him on a show last night ad I think he'd have fascinating and funny thoughts

but has anyone else ever had the millisecond of panic thinking "eep! what if they know what I'm thinking?!!" If someone looks at you oddly etc?
Or is that just me?

ergoproxy said...

oops and hi anon!

elena said...

Hey Ergo

I'm still trying to decide who I would want to "hear" for the day. Probably no one who knew me. Cause you're right I might not want to know what they really think.

Big storm almost here. Very bad one. I'm a bit worried because it's Prom night and Sunshine is out. Oh and I have a pic I'll try to post later cause I'm a very proud mom.

elena said...

Well crap on a crap cracker! Net went out right in the middle of an e-bay listing. It's back for the moment but I know if I start again it's gonna go out. There is golfball size hail 5 miles down the road headed this way. The Kansas Speedway has a race going on and they are telling people to get out. Not a good situation!

please be careful elena!

Original Punk J said...

Hey all--

Just spoke to Elena about 10 minutes ago or so. There's apparently two tornados that have touched down: one near the Speedway, and one "right up the road" from her house.

Worst part: Stormy's working across the street from the Speedway. Sunshine's at dinner and then going to the prom, and is also in the path of it.

Her husband is there with her, but she sounded kind of scared when we hung up. I asked her to call me when everything was over and when she had news, but who knows when that will be.

I've already said some prayers.

They can always use more.

Will be back later with any more info.

ergoproxy said...

holy cow J!!

I really hope everything is ok, for elena and her family but for everyone in the community too

tornadoes are the scariest storm things I can imagine

Be safe elens!!!!!

Original Punk J said...

Elena just called me...said the one tornado near the Speedway went back up in the clouds, but the other one did hit. It took out several farmhouses, but their house is ok. She's heard from Stormy but not Sunshine. And there's another tornado headed towards the house. She and hubby are heading for the basement.

She still sounds scared, and I do NOT blame her. I'm scared FOR them.

Hey Ergo, will be back a little later.

ergoproxy said...

thanks J

hoping the tornado misses them, and everyone else, there are places around her with a lot of nothing, let it hit there.
I am sure the girls are probably both ok, I imagine communication is a bit hard with the storms
Hope she hears from Sunshine soon
and
STAY IN THE BASEMENT!!!!!!

Elena said this wasn't a good beginning to the storm season. They're calling for more bad weather through tomorrow night.

Last summer was the worst outbreak of mosquitos. It was so hot, muggy and then on top of all that I kept getting bit by these darn buggers.

There were a few times I would slap my thighs thinking it might scare them away and I'd end up killing them; blood would squirt all over my thigh. Not to disgust anyone here, but it was just so unforgiving.

Not looking forward to that this year, but I guess its unavoidable, so what can I do. :(

ooh I haven't seen those ones emily!, wonder if we'll get them, The one I have just finished watching is a British one called Masterchef, the 2009 final was on today (they repeat the weeks episodes on Sun and I missed some so I watched it today)

I'm good BC. Things are looking quite summery and dewy in my neck of the woods. Finally, after weeks of horrible rain and cold winds were getting a break. How's everything in your neck of the woods? Anything new with you?

A Rose for Emily...

Original Punk J said...

The only cooking shows that I've gotten into are the ones with Guy Fieri. He's good, plus he's funny. I like his shows where he travels to different states and samples local fare. One show had a clip from Memphis, about BBQ and "soul food". Pretty interesting.

Anonymous said...

That's good. It's been quite warm here lately. Around the 80's. We're hitting 80 again tomorrow, but for more chance of storms. Nothing really new happening, except I got finals this week, then I guess I got early summer vacation.

Sounds interesting EP. I wonder if they give that show on BBC America, I should check. I am huge fan of Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares and The F Word. Those two shows I usually don't miss. Even the repeats. I can't help but watch those two shows on a constant basis. It's an obsession. LOL!

BC, well good luck on your finals.

J, I like most Food Network shows but my two favorites are ACE OF CAKES and Home Cooking with Paula Dean. I just love how she always says Hey Ya'll. That southern twang just always gets to me. Hahaha!

A Rose for Emily...

Original Punk J said...

"I really don't like him, not least because he wears fucking orange crocs with socks

Ergo. I feel your pain. Those are probably the world's ugliest shoes! They look like what you'd get if you mated clogs with Jellies. Remember those?

ergoproxy said...

masterchefI LOVE the show, it isn't really hyped up at all, like some cooking contests, It ia a BBC show so it could be

Original Punk J said...

Emily, Paula Deen is quite the character! She's not your typical Southerner, by the way. We don't all sound like that! :D

Also, we don't all put butter in everything we cook. She put butter in hamburger on one show.

I shit you not. Right in the middle of the meat. :P

Finals already, BC? Yeah, I guess it would be time for those. My niece starts finals on Monday. At Tulane they schedule one final per day as they take hours to finish. So she usually has one on Monday, one on Thursday, and again the next week. Again, :P.

ergoproxy said...

clogs and jellies!! It all makes sense now.....

I can see their use in gardening, beach or such, or even if you ahve foot issues and require the comfort but wearing them in public unless you have no other viable choice is just wrong, they look good on nobody

Paula Dean , I think we may ahve her, I'll have to look out for it

BC hope the finals go well, it hardly seems long since you started! Time is flying this year

Amyranth said...

Thank God Elena is going to be alright.

Ace of Cakes is awesome. We sell cake supplies at my store sometimes, and I frequently hear my co-workers say "That's easy. I saw it on Ace of Cakes.."

Also, I think Duff is cute. Sorry.

I do not find Crocs comfortable at all. I can't find my size, and maybe that's why, but I hate the feeling of oversized shoes sliding around on my feet.

Hallo. :D

Anonymous said...

Jellies!!! I remember Jellies. I use to rock them everywhere. To the grocery store, to the mall, to the beach. The beach (yup I said it). I'd burn my feet every time but I thought they were the cat's pajamas. Sad but true.

A Rose for Emily...

Amyranth said...

Paula Deen has some great ideas, but I agree with you J, about the butter.

Man, I swear one of her recipes is like macaroni, cheese, and 2 sticks of butter with a tablespoon of salt or something.

Hallo Ergo, BC and Emily!

Anonymous said...

J, butter in a hamburger? My goodness! She does use a lot of butter but I think she's so cute with her husband and her boys. That Hey Ya'll just kills me to pieces.

Amy, ACE OF CAKES is just my show. I love how no two cakes are ever the same (like snowflakes, Ba Rump Bump!!!). Horrible comedy I know.

EP, you have to check out Paula. If you get a chance watch her show. She'll make you laugh.

A Rose for Emily...

Carrie said...

J, yeah, finals is this week already. I thought for sure it'd be in May, but nope. I'm kinda cheating I guess because two of my finals are take home tests, but they have 150 questions to fill out, so. There's that, and well, hopefully I can head out to New Mexico next month as I hope I can.

I just found out they're offering martial arts classes for college credit in the fall, so that'll be one of the first classes I'll register for when I come back ^_^

Good luck to your niece on her finals.

Thanks emily

"Man, I swear one of her recipes is like macaroni, cheese, and 2 sticks of butter with a tablespoon of salt or something."

Its like, HELLO CHOLESTEROL!!!

EP, don't those Crocs remind you of clown shoes. Every time I see them, I think clown shoes. And they do smell. Like weird plastic.

BC , just think VACA is very, very near. That's always the key to remember during finals.

A Rose for Emily...

Amyranth said...

Emily, did you see the wedding cake they made with the red dragon?

The bride and the groom were on top, and they'd both been either eaten or incinerated by it. The dragon itself was like... 3 feet long or something wacky like that.

The rest of the cake was a traditional 4 tier round, with little flowers and whatnot. I loved it.

Ergo, they smell HORRIBLE. When you take them out of the packaging after they come in off the truck, they smell the worst. I'm sure I've melted nerves in my head from unpacking them.

I've never used cream of mushroom soup for anything. A casserole, eh...

Original Punk J said...

Gaaah, I've missed so much! All I did was wander off for a few minutes, and the blog exploded.

HEY AMY! HEY CARRIE!

Gotta say, Crocs are icky. My sister and my niece (yep, the finals-taker) have some, and they're the most atrocious things I've ever seen. My sister said, "Here! Try mine on, they're SOOOOOOOOOOO comfortable!" Well, considering I turn my feet over when I wear my Etnies...these weren't comfortable. I gotta have the whole foot surrounded by shoe, no parts falling out or off.

That smell? Plastic. Gots to be. >.<

Jellies were everywhere...I think I had a pair, too, but I don't remember. I DO know they stuck to your feet somethin' awful. Now THERE'S a smell!

BC, are you going on vacation in NM?

Amyranth said...

Carrie, they are atrocious. They're worse than latex balloons, permanent markers, and spraypaint combined.

It's because they're essentially hot, melted foam, formed into a shoe shape. The chemicals that come off those babies before they even see a real foot are enough to cause some serious, mind-altering hallucinations.

Anonymous said...

Amy, I did see that cake. I thought it was so funny when they made the bride and groom stick out of the Dragon's mouth like they were being eaten. It was so cute.

Toujours, goodnight darlin'. Don't let the bed bugs bite, like those darn mosquitos. LOL!

A Rose for Emily...

amy cream of mushroom soup is a great base for creamy chicken casserole, really easy and has heaps of flavour in it already, cream of asparagus is good too, then add more mushrooms or asparagus and have it with pasta

Original Punk J said...

Goodnight TJ, good to see you! Sleep well.

Amy, that dragon cake sounds way cool. If I ever get married, maybe I'll talk the future Mr into having one of those.

Emily! You said it: plastic. Nothin' but. NASSY.

Amyranth said...

Em and J, if I could get this "Royal Wedding Theme" out of my head, I'd do something crazy like that too.

Maybe make a cake with Megatron in a tux and Sailor Moon as his bride. That would get a few laughs.

Ergo, I'd try it, except to my aversion to anything really creamy.
I used to love the idea of Cream of Broccoli soup. And then I had it.

And then it had me! ZING!

mayo,

one more day, and then quilt week is over. tomorrow, i'll have been working for 13 days straight, and yet, it doesn't feel like it was that long at all.

i am really surprised by my reaction to all of this -- i warned my folks back at the beginning of this long haul that i would probably be a grump every night and not to take it personally. i just couldn't imagine that the stress and pressure of dealing with so many people would be anything but an endurance test.

but it has been a blast. i spend the day measuring fabric and cutting it, chatting up the ladies at my table, helping others, greeting them, teasing them, answering their questions...and it is fun. i haven't been tired at all, i haven't been stressed. i'm actually jazzed all day long.

and this afternoon my boss told me she had been receiving compliments about me, about my enthusiasm, my friendliness, my helpfulness.

what astonishes me is that i didn't know i could be like this. i used to think i would always be a hermit. i didn't know i could be a social butterfly.

i worked a ton of hours, i'm going to get a nice solid paycheck from quilt week, but what i really earned was another piece of myself.

i wonder what i'll find next?

good night, mayo. never let your own ideas of yourself stop you from doing something. i guarantee you'll be surprised.

Amy, I always wanted a 3D Chinese Zodiac Sign themed cake for my wedding. So basically it would be farm animals on a cake, but kind of cartoony like, if that makes any sense.

I was born in the year of the sheep. And for some reason I think it would be so cute to have a sheep (like the one that comes out in those SLEEPY MATTRESS commercials). Something cute like that. So if I end up marrying another sheep it would basically be two sheeps in love on one cake. Corny I know, but Hey Ya'll thats just me. LOL!

J, you're a snake? I'm a boar.

Yay for going to the basement, Elena! :) And I'm a sheeple. I think Terry is a horse.

Oh that's right I heard about that too EP. Some virus that someone got from a pig. Isn't that peculiar?

Amy, the Chinese zodiac is really interesting, don't you think? Some of the characteristics are more on-target than those of the Western zodiac.

L's a Monkey. *heeheehee*

Thanks Emily. Ergo, yeah, the swine flu situation has been popping up all over the news lately. It's terrible.

Elena, I hope no one got hurt by the tornadoes.

Good to see you Emily, long time no see.

Or closest neighbor was actually at the Speedway when the first tornado was coming. He said it was crazy. People were trying to get out of there and because most of the parking is field, when they got the their cars they were getting stuck in the mud. I would not have wanted to be there.

Carrie I think I would live in a basement!!
build underground, which I do actually think would be pretty nifty, there is a whole town here in Aust called Coober Pedy which is underground as it's so hot, homes shops hotels everything. It's a mining area and just bare rocky desert around it

J, I feel like I identify with my western Zodiac, Taurus, more than I do the Chinese one.

According to the Chinese Zodiac, Mister and I should be at each other's throats.

J, I do agree with you. I read this one Chinese Zodiac website where they not only detailed personality traits but also gave a detailed description of career choices that were best suited for each year/animal. I didn't bookmark, darn it. Wish I had cause I'd try to link it here but oh well.

BC, I hear Rat's a very resourceful beings so never underestimate the power of the Rat.

Amy, you're a Taurus? I should probably already know that, but maybe I forgot. My birthday is Monday, so we can be all stubborn together. :)

lol, thanks emily.

Me thinks I'm gonna read more about the year of the rat

Hm. Well, Amy, we know THAT'S not accurate, so...there ya go. Just proves that attraction and compatibility are more reliable than a generalized horoscope, from ANY zodiac!

Ergo!

Carrie, yeah, I'm a stubborn old... bull.

Mine's not for another few weeks yet, but it's on it's way.

However, I like being stubborn anytime, so does Mister. He's a goat.
