Well tempered.

“Something with poison in it, but attractive to the eye, and soothing to the smell.”
-Wicked Witch of the West, The Wizard of Oz

Once upon a fork in the road...

In the corner a ratty green sofa sits butted up against a water ring stained end table. There are at least four three inch burn holes in the snagged, stained fabric. Heavy, dark drapes cover the window. The time of day is a complete mystery to anyone who has spent any time here and time is all but spent.

The sofa, the room smells like piss and acid. Pizza boxes, broken plastic forks and unwanted, half-eaten food are surrounded by empty beer bottles and overfilled ash trays. A bent spoon sits on the coffee table.

Around the corner, the kitchen cupboards are bare, the fridge empty. It’s water and anti-acids for dinner; anything else would be a waste.

“Have you seen your family?”

“Well, you should. I know they miss you.”

The visit was brief and I was grateful to have had the opportunity, but for some reason I can’t help but be thankful for decisions I made long ago. I emerged almost unscathed, at least in that respect. I wish there was more I could do.

"Call me if you need anything."

In that dark room past, present and future all at once delivered upon us both, redemption.

"Yeah, I will."

p.s. it is round there aren't any sides.

OOHHHH ARCHMAGE RAISTLIN MAJERE FTW!

Anonymous said...

Can we watch?

did you purchase a ticket? no ticket, no show.

Anonymous said...

raistlin... ohh please!!

MissTottenham said...

I am confused, that was bizzare.

elena said...

The potion is much faster. The pills are given away like candy.

Anonymous said...

Easy will it be for us to slip back into our dreamless sleep.

For you, Raistlin, there will be no sleep. Only an endless waking, endless listening for sounds that will never come, endless staring into a void that holds neither light nor darkness, endless shrieking words that no one will hear, no one will answer, endless plotting and scheming that will bear no fruit as you turn round and round upon yourself. Finally, in your madness and desperation, you will grab the tail of your existence and, like a starving snake, devour yourself whole in an effort to find food for your soul.

But you will find nothing but emptiness. And you will continue to exist forever within this emptiness - a tiny spot of nothing, sucking in everything around you to feed your endless hunger.

elena the potion is addictive and poisonous

I'll scalp a ticket, how's that? I'll just wait on line with my finger up until someone sells me one. :)

Anonymous said...

Arsenic and Old Lace? One of my favorites, thanks to my Mom who made me watch it when I was a kid. :D

And Cagney is one of my favorite artists ever. I dote on him. I've even got one of his ties that I got for Christmas years ago. True story!

resurrected wreck said...

O_O

Anonymous said...

Yup! For real!

resurrected wreck said...

How did you score that??

Anonymous said...

My Mom and Dad got it for me. There used to be this store called "Sid's" in the MGM studios where they would sell items like that. This was a massively rare find because most of their stuff was either just autographs or things from modern actors and actresses. But, this tie was just chilling there under the glass.

I hardly ever take it out. It still has his vibe on it and I don't want to spoil that.

resurrected wreck said...

Dude!

I'm kinda in awe!

Anyway, must get ready for bed.

Have a good night :)

Mayo,

Dude, it's just one of those nights where I don't know. Don't know what to say, what to ask, what to do, what to not do, what to not say, what to not ask, what to not think about, what to think about. And I guess that's all part of it and that's where the "fuck it" come in, but I don't even know if I should even waste a "fuck it" on tonight.

Everything is missing and out of place and when that happens I run to something and some place familiar. It's not always nice, it's not always pretty, it's not always neat, it's not always clean, but it's not, not. Not always. But it's mine, you know? It's all mine.

And so tonight, I go there and do this and that, and I don't have the answers, but I find plenty of questions. And that's okay, because tomorrow, it will be the exact opposite.

Mayo, I really hope you're okay. I really hope that somewhere tonight you found what you needed, because Lord knows we all have that nagging little empty spot that never seems to get filled. And even if we manage to find something or someone to fit, we'll start ripping and tearing ourselves a brand new one, because, well, guess what?

We miss the empty spot.

What?

Told you, it was one of those nights.

Sleep well, mystery dude.

Love to YOU Always,
S

p.s. to follow one of those days.

The development of our cerebral cortex has been the greatest achievement of the evolutionary processes. Big deal. While allowing us the thrills of intellect or the pangs of self-consciousness, it is all too often overruled by our inner, instinctive brain - the one that tells us to react, not reflect, to run, rather than ruminate. Maybe we have gone as far as we can go and the next advance, whatever that may be - will be made by beings we create ourselves, using our own technology. Life forms we can design and program not to be ultimately governed and constricted by the rules of survival. Or perhaps that step forward had already been achieved on another planet by organisms that had a billion years head start on us. If these beings ever visited us, would we recognize what we were seeing? And upon catching sight of us, would they react in anything but horror at seeing such mindless, primitive, hideous creatures?

Anonymous said...

Oh, War of the Coprophages was the one with the cockroach infestation. At one point they make it seem like a bug scuttles across the screen. But for anyone who is squeamish about bugs, it's not a good one to watch before bed! :)

Anonymous said...

MJ: Lehua blossom honey ice cream is so effing delish it isn't even true. I love that stuff.

But the best one for me is Pomegranate chcolate chip. YUM.

Anon, I don't think there is any such thing as a miracle food. Nothing is a cure all. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that if you're finding out stuff about things like acai, pomegranate, and other healthy things like that, usually you're interested in being healthy. Therefore your whole life will probably be healthier. I think a lot of the "research" has to do simply with how people live in general.

In other words, someone researching acai probably wouldn't be eating at Wendy's five days a week. :)

Anonymous said...

is that icecream better than chocolate mj? that's hard to believe. not much is better than chocolate. ^_~

10:47, you reminded me of that one voice actor on Family Guy. "Oh noooooo...."

I am woefully behind, and not so much with the wanting to catch up. I just watched the "Welcome to the Black Parade" vid, and I am big with the time tripping. I admit I went to this blog in the first place because of the rumors, but that quickly became a non issue. I stayed because of the people here, and will continue to as long as this place is open. And I continue to appreciate our most gracious host. Um, all I can say is, all of you, have crept into my life, my family and I discuss the names on here on a daily basis. And I wish to thank you all for sharing yourselves. I know that sounds totally touchy feely, but that's the way I feel, blame it on peri-menopause. And to the anon who posted the Beyonce vid, you're killing me, I am so trying to get that damn song out of my head!!!!!
