Well tempered.

“Something with poison in it, but attractive to the eye, and soothing to the smell.”
-Wicked Witch of the West, The Wizard of Oz

Once upon a fork in the road...

In the corner a ratty green sofa sits butted up against a water ring stained end table. There are at least four three inch burn holes in the snagged, stained fabric. Heavy, dark drapes cover the window. The time of day is a complete mystery to anyone who has spent any time here and time is all but spent.

The sofa, the room smells like piss and acid. Pizza boxes, broken plastic forks and unwanted, half-eaten food are surrounded by empty beer bottles and overfilled ash trays. A bent spoon sits on the coffee table.

Around the corner, the kitchen cupboards are bare, the fridge empty. It’s water and anti-acids for dinner; anything else would be a waste.

“Have you seen your family?”

“Well, you should. I know they miss you.”

The visit was brief and I was grateful to have had the opportunity, but for some reason I can’t help but be thankful for decisions I made long ago. I emerged almost unscathed, at least in that respect. I wish there was more I could do.

"Call me if you need anything."

In that dark room past, present and future all at once delivered upon us both, redemption.

"Yeah, I will."

p.s. it is round there aren't any sides.

Wendy, I don't think Mistletoe wears out!

BC, essentially, there's a few of them being big babies, because the new budget was announced for next year. They're going to have to take a cut of 30 million dollars per party, and they've been told to cut back on travel and entertainment expenses. So they're threatening to vote against the bill, which will overthrow the government, and send us back to the polls again.

That's a sorta nutshell version of it.

Wow, it's the whole "old crew" together again! Without Elena and Martha, but the rest of us are all together!

ergoproxy said...

amy that really shows you whether they are in it for the money really doesn't it.
I think politicians should be the ones setting a standard of responsible spending. It's not as though a lot of the travel and entertainment would be essential, or unable to be done in a less extravagant way.
Hope they don't make you all vote again over something that silly, bet if it was another sector of society they wouldn't be so upset, and that's the shame

ergoproxy said...

hello J!

That sucks Amy. Those people need to suck it up and grow some balls. Entertainment and traveling expenses are nothing compared to having money to pay for bills, housing, and food.

Hello there J, good to see you. how are you doing? *hugs*

Its just the good people, the true friends, who care about this blog.... and each other.

without the attention whores.

toujours said...

shut up, anon at 9:30. i like all those people.

Anonymous said...

While I agree with OPL that it is "the old crew" and the others are un needed, I don't think she should have said it signed in because now she is going to get hunted.

Anonymous said...

I meant OPJ not OPL sorry!

Toujours I am sure J meant to include you!!

Original Punk J said...

Hey Ergo! How are you?

Amy! Crotch-kicking sounds too good for them.

BC, Wendy, great to see you!

Anonymous said...

Toujours it is simply much better with the real crew around here and without the "day crew".

And no Fimble Star either thank God.

Amyranth cleaned the blog up. And Dickweed.

9:31,

Anonymous said...

BC I was complementing you and doing nothing more than agreeing with OPJ. Please don't tell me to shut up. If OPJ has her right to express her opinion than so do I and the rest of us.

Anonymous said...

BC you yourself have agreed about certain people here. If you are allowed to say it then so are we.

ergoproxy said...

hi TJ!!
how was your day exploring the woods?

Anonymous said...

I think that with them mostly gone Mayo and SS will be able to concentrate their attention on the people who truely care about them and this place.

The old crew. Just like in the good old days of the blog.

toujours said...

it doesn't matter, it just doesn't matter what hateful thing you think you have a "right to express". the fact is that every person who isn't here anymore is a loss to this place, regardless who liked them or not.

that's the truth.

it doesn't matter who is remembered as being part of any part of whatever crew. it doesn't matter if people are forgotten once they're not here. it matters that they were a part of this place, that they helped make it what it was and what it will be always in our memories. anons like you who come here just to say who you hate aren't a part of what makes this blog blogbelieve, and you never will be.

Anonymous said...

Mayo told Amy I hear you. If you think he disagrees with her or that he doesn't understand what she meant.... you are sorely mistaken.

toujours said...

it was good, ergo. i had fun.

Original Punk J said...

TJ, I was unaware you were here when I came on. You weren't on the page. Sorry for not naming you.

Here we go again with that whole "crew" shit. I'm sorry I even said anything, I suppose I should know better by now. I was just really happy to see so many of my friends here at one time. So I misspoke and used the wrong word, apparently. Should have said "group" or something.

Probably shouldn't have said anything at all. There's always someone on the sidelines reminding me that I fuck up more than anything.

Goodnight.

Anonymous said...

Tourjour please don't be a hypocrite. You never talk that way to Amyranth and to OPJ or any of the blues signed in who are glad that they are gone. Mostly gone that is. But when it's anon you tell us all to shut up and that we're wrong.

We are allowed to agree with them.... with the people who are right

Anonymous said...

OPJ don't leave. You were right. You are allowed to be happy to see your friends. You are allowed to leave out anyone you want to.

WHEN was the last time any of them said hi to you.

Anonymous said...

Wow, it's the whole "old crew"

That is what I was agreeing. The group of friends. Call it group or crew. Whichever. Everyone who matters is present and accounted for.

Anonymous said...

I dont' think anyone was saying you made a mistake OPJ. Please stay.

toujours said...

j., what hurt me is that you didn't include me in the people who weren't here that you thought needed to be here to be a Full crew.

maybe i'm being too stupidly sensitive, maybe it doesn't really matter in the big scheme considering all the horible crap going on in the world, but i just want to believe that somewhere i have friends who will miss me.

thanks for reminding me what the truth is.

Anonymous said...

"maybe i'm being too stupidly sensitive, maybe it doesn't really matter in the big scheme considering all the horible crap going on in the world, but i just want to believe that somewhere i have friends who will miss me."

Toujour, she left out many people. Does that bother you or is it just about you again?

toujours said...

anon(s), i stand by what i said. i believe it. this is a special place. you're opinons of who belongs here and what mayo said about anything are not important.

you are not a part of blogbelieve.

you never will be. blogbelieve has always been a place of camaraderie. you don't understand that.

Anonymous said...

Leave Teej alone. OPJ made an oversight, that's all. She can't name everyone. WHile I agree with her leaving out the Attention Whores I can tell you almost positively that she didn't mean to leave out TJ.

Anonymous said...

"
you are not a part of blogbelieve.

you never will be. blogbelieve has always been a place of camaraderie. you don't understand that."

Why am I not a part of blogbelieve? Amyranth was the one who said the place would be better without the behavior of one small group of people. OPJ wanted them gone too. Why are they apart of the blog but the rest of us who agree with them aren't??

toujours said...

nope, it's just about me, 9:48. j. is my friend, j. is someone i have enjoyed hanging out with here at night. it hurt me that she left me out.

all about me.

toujours said...

you are not a part of blogbelieve because blogbelieve is about strangers coming here and becoming friends.

have you come here to become friend with anyone? have you come here of make a random commenta nd instead found people you could call sisters?

no, you haven't.

you are here making comments on a blog, but you are not part of blogbelieve.

Anonymous said...

"nope, it's just about me, 9:48. j. is my friend, j. is someone i have enjoyed hanging out with here at night. it hurt me that she left me out.

all about me."

But then you preach about comraderie in the same breath as saying that "we" are not a part of the blogs. Where is the comraderie between OPJ and Amyranth and the Porchies?

Why doesn't it bother you when they say it but you get mad when others with no name agree??

And by the way..... Mayo did agree with Amyranth. Sorry if you missed it.

Anonymous said...

Amyranth cleaned the blog up. And Dickweed.

Anons, so many people died yesterday and today. And then a man was killed by insane shoppers right here in my very own "ghetto."

Aren't there more important things for you to worry about than whether or not you like me doing poetry and quotes?

If anything, this place was better for me before the bitching about the poetry and the games came along. Now it feels like a deflated balloon.

But there are more important things in the world for you to get upset over. You know? I mean if you're going to pull your hair and beat your chest, do it over those things.

Anonymous said...

Tourjours why do you think YOU can decide if it is OK to post poetry or what the blog is about?? The other people here have made it clear. Mayo pretty much agreed (I hear you) after Amyranth's Fix. The blog is not about YOU.

Anonymous said...

I doubt OPJ meant to leave you out. Don't take it so hard.

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said...

Just email OPJ and she will tell you that it was just an oversight. You two can straighten it out. Don't stay mad at her.

toujours said...

i'm not mad at j. i'm really not. it's difficult to convey tone, so that won't read the way i'm saying it, but i'm really not. i know she didn't mean to say something that hurt. i'm either remembered or i'm not, it's nothing i can control.

anyway, thank you ergo. i'll try to see if maybe i can't figure out a way to hop online at a library, too. last year was too much fun not to try to be a part of it again. i know you'll all have fun with it again.

Is Butternut Squash supposed to taste like wet cardboard?

toujours said...

um, not usually, amyranth? how did you prepare it?

hello bc, good to see you.

i have some things i have to get done tonight, so i'm going to be hopping back and forth. wish i could be here more.

Amyranth said...

LOL. More salt then.

Well Teej, I was making Butternut Spud soup, and I just followed the instructions, that said to put them cut side down on a baking dish with 1/4 inch of water in there.

I added the wrong spice too. I thought it was the New Mexico Chile spice, when it was home made pork chop rub.

Oh well, it's edible.

ergoproxy said...

amy it should taste a bit like a sweeter pumpkin, did you boil it?

Amyranth said...

Sort of Ergo, I did what I was told to do. It doesn't seem to have much flavour though.

ergoproxy said...

I would have used olive oil, not water and roasted it till it was browned
you could try boiling it more to concentrate it,

Amyranth said...

Hmm.. roasting. Maybe that's what should have happened.

I finally got the oven fixed, and this squash has been sitting here since october. Maybe it's overripe?

Amyranth said...

WOOO!!!

Okay, next time, no accidental spice rub!

hot hot hot!!!

toujours said...

it could have lost some flavor, amyranth. well -- look at this as the experimentation phase?

ergoproxy said...

it could be amy
though squash and pumpkin last a long time

add some chicken stock powder, salt and pepper, and a bit of thyme

Amyranth said...

*grins*

Teej, it's gonna get more experimental.

The sour cream in the fridge is over a month old, but I'm going to dollop it in anyway, because my tongue is trying to serve me with oral seperation papers! Owie!

toujours said...

oh holy moly, amyranth. that's gonna be very sour cream, i'm thinking.

kitchen tip: if it is ambulatory, let it go free.

Amyranth said...

A good tip.

And it wasn't bad, just needed a bit of a stir. But the soup was so spicy Mister is now, happily, eating the rest.

I'm noshing on unspiced, dry Cheerios.

ergoproxy said...

amy stir in sour cream , or cream

ergoproxy said...

I should really just start calling you from the grocery store Ergo.

"Hi, Ergo? It's me! Okay, so what should I do for supper tonight? What? You're, you're breaking up? Huh?... Okay... OOKAY I GOT IT! Talk to you later!"

*heads to the register with chicken breasts, a watermelon and some ranch dressing, wondering if this is some odd OZ recipe*

toujours said...

i know, ergo, it's like vinegar...can it really go bad? i know it can, technically, but it always seems like one of those unaswerables.

Amyranth said...

Pickles can. I found black mold on a jar in the back of my fridge. :S

ergoproxy said...

yep mould is always a good sign

most of the time it's contaminated from elsewhere

amy I can be you're personal grocery advisor! lol

(and I have made a watermelon relish to go with meat, and you could put the dressing over some boiled baby potatoes, lol)

Amyranth said...

Ergo, that's spooky.

Okay, Basmati Rice, Pork and....

Brussels Sprouts!

Anonymous said...

*pokes head in*

Is it safe now?

ergoproxy said...

ummmmmm

you know I'd chop up the brussel sprouts, stir fry them with the pork add a nice curry paste, like korma, some cream and ground almonds and serve it on the rice

Amyranth said...

*smiles evilly*

Rutabaga, cabbage and new york steak.

MUAHAHAHA!

ergoproxy said...

ok you got me, I don't know what 2 of them are! lol

cabbage I know but rutabega is swede?
and what cut is a NY steak?

Anonymous said...

Hey there amy, ergo, TJ(If you're still here)

Amyranth said...

... um...

The steak, I think it's a striploin.

And a rutabaga is an overgrown turnip. Slightly sweeter.

Cabbage.. num.

toujours said...

hi there bc. :)

ergo, the rutabaga is indeed a swede.

ergoproxy said...

hi BC!

ok I would cut the swede into long pieces, toss it in olive oil and italian herbs and roast it, sweat the cabbage off in butter and rub the meat with the italian herbs before frying it to medium, slice it and seve over the cabbage with the roasted swede beside it

Mayo

Well hell. I'm still without my high-speed Internet and dealing with dial-up. Guess it's better than nothing right? But the fact that I'm paying for the high-speed and can't use it does bother me. Pretty sure my Internet provider doesn't care. Matter of fact I'm sure they don't care. You know I'm a patient woman, I really am but enough is enough. Yeah, like what am I gonna do? Not a damn thing but complain. So might as well just forget about it for now. As Scarlett would say, "Tomorrow is another day." I can just start the war with them again tomorrow.

So "Twilight" was a pretty good movie. Should have gone with me and Stormy to see it. I really thought that Milk Dud's bribe would have worked. LOL. It was fun hanging with Stormy tonight and on a Friday night no less. She actually turned down a date to hang with me. So part of me is pretty happy but then there is the other part of me that's just waiting to see what she's up to. Isn't that bad of me? I think just cause she hung with me she wants something. Well see.

Anyway, now I'm all alone (except for a cat, three kittens) in the house. One kitten just climbed up my bookshelf while another was gleefully climbing up the guitar case my Strat is in. Lord, protect me from kittens. Okay I just pushed them all out of my study and closed the door. I'm guessing the loud crash I just heard in the kitchen must mean they've found something else to "play" with. Crap!

Think I'll go survey the damage. Before I go I gotta ask - You doing okay, Mayo? Have to admit it was weird that Thanksgiving came and went without a word from you. No, I'm not trying to put a guilt trip on you, it's just I worry when we don't hear from you. Can't help it. So here's to hoping that you're just enjoying your life and if that's the case I'm really happy. You take care, you hear?

Night Mayo

nope, i don't. i have to admit, i'm feeling a little concerned about that at the moment.

Now I'm worried.

toujours said...

i'm just trying to scrape up something, a motel now, i guess. hotels are all too expensive.

but i have my bus ticket, i'm going, so i don't know. keep my fingers crossed, i guess.

i told you i really suck at this grown-up stuff.

elena said...

Oh shit, there really ain't any such thing as "grown up". It's just as we get older we get better preteding we're grown up. Same fears and doubts are there we just learn to ignore them better.

I've got my fingers crossed and I know you'll do just fine. All the same make sure you keep in contact.

toujours said...

yeah, that's true. all the same, i wish i'd done all this moving out on my own crap when i was fresh out of college, though. wouldn't feel like such a loser, then.

anyway, i will keep in contact. i don't want to disappear, you know that.

but for now, i should probably get my ass in bed. thanks for hanging around talking with me elena. i missed it. :)

mayo,

i know people have had computer problems before and have had to go offline and away from the blog for awhile, and they all handled themselves well. this shouldn't be a big deal. it's just the internet.

except, i usually suck at "what ought to be". this is kind of a big deal to me. this place is important to me, and not being able to be here is going to make difficult times more difficult.

i don't know if that makes me less of a person, to admit that i need the connections i find here, but it's my truth.

well, there you go then.

Hi

A hug for any who felt sad at the holiday. *HUG*

Still cleaning after the Thanksgiving celebration here Friday night, though I did take a nap, as I didn't get much sleep while waiting in line.

I wanted to say here that not all of the people who waited for bargains acted like animals.

I met many kind people, in fact, and was shocked at that revelation.

I waited in line at Best Buy and got a laptop. Hopefully I will be better able to keep in touch here as a result, but I needed one for work. I enjoyed my time there (or I wouldn't have stayed in the cold) as I met families and individuals and we socialized and had a good time. They shared their 'apartments' with me - tents, but not, because of all the amenities. I even made a new friend. An older lady who was one of the first to perform a highly technical job - she's retired now - but we spoke of progress due to changes in our lifestyles in the 20th century to today (and some of the issues people face). I like her. :) The only problem I had was an insult I received from a Best Buy employee that reeked of prejudice against a group that he assumed I belonged to. I felt bad on their behalf. I actually reported the person to a manager.

I was aware that Walmart had better deals (which I could better afford), but we always call walmart 'badmart' because of its policies that promote what amounts to social injustice, to my mind. The video I watched a few nights ago and referred to here showed Walmart shoppers shouting and pushing as they do not hand out tickets, rather they just have a first come, first served policy, which is both dangerous and unfair to the elderly and infirm. In fact I wouldn't have met my new friend there as she is handicapped.

I was still shocked to read of a death related to buying cheap 'things.' I mean its just stuff! Damn. I now know Walmart executives just don't give a shit about people or they would never have had that policy in the first place, (as well as all of their other policies). But damn.

Terror in Mumbai - Friends of mine from India have been speaking for a while now of the political and religious issues over there for a while. Sometimes they are appalled by American ignorance of the fact that both India and Pakistan have nuclear capabilities - and a long-standing enmity. I just hope that they find out exactly who did this before any action goes forward.

Anons - All of us are important to this place. It is Mayo's, not ours and he doesn't make those distinctions, nor would he appreciate reading them here.

J was probably recalling a time when people whose company she enjoys would be here together and glad that she could revisit that period as so many of her old friends were on at the same time. Its a rare occurrence, these days, and something to remark on.

J - I am glad that you had the opportunity. I miss that time myself.

Wendy - If you use the option to save drafts, it helps with that problem, I know! I had the same thing happen when I wrote you once. :) I hope you are feeling better? :)

Hi BC! *HUGS*

ergo - Thank you for putting the Christmas tree up! Its got character. I like it. :)

:)

Take care everyone!

Spectacular Sky Scene Monday Evening

Every once in a while, something will appear in the night sky that will attract the attention of even those who normally don't bother looking up. It's likely to be that way on Monday evening, Dec. 1.

it's gorgeous.

i'm so glad it got here before i left!!

That's great TJ. I hope mine comes today. Gotta make sure Jake doesn't find the package before I do.

sdock10 said...

TJ, Elena!

I want mine too!

TJ, What does it look like? Feel like?

Actually, I would love it if Dallas came today, but ahhh, I'm thinking it won't get here til Monday or Tuesday!

elena said...

Holy crap I just looked out the window - it's snowing.

I'm not ready for winter.

toujours said...

it's just amazing, elena. i hope your's gets there immediately! i've been reading the design pages. all the thought behind it, and getting to see more of gerard's own artwork...

well, i'm sure you can guess i'm pretty happy at the moment. :)

sdock10 said...

I just read there was a fatal shooting at a Toys R Us in California. This is horrible.

toujours said...

sdock -- it's very solid, and has that new book smell. i forgot there's a ribbon bookmark, which just makes it even more wonderful to my way of thinking.

the slipcover is very cool too. and the oh man, the pages inside -- i had forgotten how beautiful the artwork is, and seeing the color pages just blew me away. gabriel's work really shines, and dave stewart's colors glow on these pages.

i hope you get your book today too!

sdock10 said...

Eeeeeeeek! I'm so excited! I told you guys that I even pre-ordered the toys because I must have Number 5 to sit on my desk and scowl at me all day.

toujours said...

what? at a toy's r us, sdock? was that like the walmart thing, shoppers going beserk?

that's awful.

i mean, it's awful no matter the cause, but this holiday season already seems so crazed.

sdock10 said...

Yeah, TJ. This is just sickening.

The shooting occurred in a crowded toy store on the traditional start of the holiday shopping season, but authorities say it wasn't related to the bargain-hunting frenzy. Instead, two men pulled guns and killed each other after the women with them erupted into a bloody brawl, witnesses said.

Smoke and I were in line yesterday at a Toysrus and it was so bad and so cramped that we almost left our stuff and walked out. Trouble was, once you got in line it was very hard to get out of line. That's how crowded it was. And this was at lunch time, not that 5am early shit.

toujours said...

it's just insanity. i'm glad i don't have much to do with christmas anymore. there's so much frenzy involved. "silent night" my aunt fanny. not anymore.

well, i have to take care of business, but i'll check back in off and on.

have a good day sdock, elena (i want your snow!), and anyone else reading this.

see you gus later.

toujours said...

that would be "guys".

see you guys later.

i don't know a gus.

sdock10 said...

Have a great day, TJ!

The whole world is going insane. Or actually, it was always insane, I guess, but now there's better coverage.

Who the hell wakes up one morning and takes a gun to Toys R Us? And two people? WTF.

Smoke said...

Seriously.

I'm just speechless.

I never quite understood people, I think.

Good 'whatever it is, wherever you are’ Mayo, SS, Ergo, Miranth, Elena, Sweetcheeks, TJ, J, Amy, Sdock; the very much missed Kass, Possum and DL; various anons, watchers and lurkers; all twits, twats and tweed lovers in the land of blog!

How are you all today? Doing good and feeling well, I hope!

J: I’m sorry I missed you last night! When are we going to get that “double dose” of punk? I’ve been looking forward to that!

Miranth: I’m happy to hear you had such a pleasant Black Friday shopping experience! It’s a shame more people/everyone can’t (or won’t) approach the day as you and your new friend did. If only everyone could see it as a day to get out, socialize, share some smiles, spread some joy, make new friends AND save money. Regarding my e~mail, I have learned my lesson. The new one is saved in draft ~ twice!

Amy: How's the decorating coming along? What do mean mistletoe doesn't wear out? I can't smooch properly under wilted mistletoe! Well, I can; but, fresh mistletoe is so much prettier!
;)

Ergo: Thanks again for putting up the Blogbelieve Tree this year ~ and the mistletoe!!!
*smooooooooooch

Sweetcheeks: Since I haven't done this in awhile, here's a little video for you:

STAY Cradle style!

Today's submission for pondering consideration:

Have a great day, everyone!

Hello... Looks like no one is here right now...

did everyone have a good Thanksgiving? How many have already put their Christmas tree up?

I am still feeling worn out from preparing for Thanksgiving! I'm achey. I hope I'm not developing a sinus infection or something...

I have to feel better for tonight though! We are having our big oyster roast! I want to have a good time and not be sitting there like death warmed over, which is how I feel right now.

Something I've been wondering about... Mayo hasn't made an appearance in quite a while, has he? Maybe he is off being busy with family - as it should be.

I'm going to crawl back in the bed now and take a nap. Hopefully, I'll feel better the next time I wake.

Have a good day!

Cookies, cookies, cookies!!!

Oooh, my kitchen is going to be so full of cookies!

Anon616 said...

Hi Amy and Mya!!!!

Ohhh....cookies! What kind of cookies, Amy?

Here is some perfect cookie baking music for you!

Well, the lyrics do include the words "fire" and "love". We would not be able to bake cookies had the caveman never discovered FIRE. And, everyone LOVEs cookies, right?
See, it's connected to cookie baking!
;P

Mya: Enjoy your nap. I hope you feel much better by tonight!

I was supposed to be decorating outdoors today; but, it's raining. The thunder is (additional) music to my ears! I can't remember the last time we had a good ol' thunderstorm.

Hmmm.....I think I'll go try to find the stockings and stocking hangers in the garage. Wish me luck! I'll need it.

Amy: Save a cookie, or two, for me! Please!

mya said...

Wendy, it is raining here also...

I don't like it very much...

mya said...

P.S. Send pictures you promised

Anon616 said...

*runs back in*

Will do, Mya!!!! As soon as find my stocking hangers and stockings (and hang them by the chimney ~ with care); I'll run to the mailroom and send those pictures.
:)

I'll also finish that 2nd novel for Miranth.

Does the rain help you sleep? Sometimes, it's like a lullaby to me. Too bad those lullabies don't help me sleep more than an hour or two at time!

Get some rest, feel better and have a great time tonight. That's an order!
*big wink and smile*

Oh, and say hello to Lauren for me!

Anyone here?

Gah, I can't believe my luck. That dude that I was going to send an email, well, just now he decided to make a myspace and look for me so we can both save the money that was needed to contact each other from yahoo personals.

I'm so fucking happy that I don't have to spend $30 a month now.

Woo!

Space sugar.

sugar molecule linked to the origin of life was discovered in a potentially habitable region of our galaxy.

The molecule, called glycolaldehyde, was spotted in a large star-forming area of space around 26,000 light-years from Earth in the less-chaotic outer regions of the Milky Way. This suggests the sugar could be common across the universe, which is good news for extraterrestrial-life seekers.

"This is an important discovery as it is the first time glycolaldehyde, a basic sugar, has been detected towards a star-forming region where planets that could potentially harbor life may exist," Serena Viti of University College London said in a press release.

Previously, glycolaldehyde had only been observed toward the center of the galaxy, where conditions are thought to be too extreme to host habitable planets.

Glycolaldehyde is a key ingredient for life. It helps to build Ribonucleic acid (RNA), which is thought to be the central molecule involved in the origin of life on Earth. Glycolaldehyde is a monosaccharide sugar, the basic unit of carbohydrates. It can react with the chemical propenal to form ribose, the building block of RNA.

"The discovery of an organic sugar molecule in a star forming region of space is very exciting and will provide incredibly useful information in our search for alien life,” said Keith Mason, chief executive of the England’s Science and Technology Facilities Council.

The finding, made with the IRAM radio telescope in France, was announced Tuesday and will be published in the Astrophysical Journal Letters.A sugar molecule linked to the origin of life was discovered in a potentially habitable region of our galaxy.

OMG, how very neat. And how seemingly seasonally appropriate, like stardust being made of sugar. Which I know is not true, I've just got visions of sugarplums dancing in my head and whatnot. Either that or aliens all hyped on a sugar rush.

However it begs the question, at least from me: How the beef do you see a sugar molecule in space? I'm guessing that the snarky answer is "not with the naked eye." Hehee. "Oh yeah, we had our telescopes out and we were trying to see this one huge nebula that is billions of lightyears away, and you'll never guess what we found instead. A single molecule of sugar!"

Seriously, WTF?

mya said...

Well, I never took that nap...

I started a new project instead...

I hate a bug...

Especially spiders and fleas.

Even though we use the Frontline on both cats and the dog religiously, we have been finding fleas on the dog lately. she must be picking them up outside...

Even though I haven't seen any on me or on clothing, I feel I'm getting bit all the time! Several years ago, I suddenly became allergic to flea bites, so this is not acceptable!

So, I bought some granules to put all over the yard. This is why I'm disappointed that it is raining today, I'll have to wait, but it will get done!

I also bought some heavy-duty spray and sprayed the entire downstairs and around all cracks and crevices upstairs.

I Hate a Bug!

mya said...

BC, that sounds great!

Sugar in Space...

Anonymous said...

Hmm, Frontline is supposed to be really good. Try giving your dog Sentinal or Advantix; that will prevent him from bringing them in to your cat.

Anonymous said...

Or Interceptor.

mya said...

Both cats stay outside, so they may be picking them up elsewhere and bringing them home...

This is really the first time we've ever had a problem! The dog never has fleas. I even called the Frontline Helpline to ask if this stuff ever expires, but they said it didn't...

Anonymous said...

No, it doesn't sexpire but it's not as good ast eh internal stuff.

"Jaws 5: Fire Island".

Hey.

I'm gonna eat y'all. I'm gonna eat that hairy leg. I'm gonna eat that one too.

Oh I can see right up them shorts.

Anonymous said...

What the hell did I ever just type up there? Sexpire? Ast eh?

TF?

mya said...

internal?

mya said...

Gonna go get ready for our Oyster Roast tonight... Like I didn't see enough of those people on Thursday! Just kidding... We're a tight family and always have a good time together.

See ya's later!

Anonymous said...

Yeah, Sentinal and and Interceptor are pills. They aren't toxic to the dog or cat (whereas Frontline and the other external flea and tick controls do have some neurological toxicity,) and they do a really decent job.

Amyranth said...

sugar molecule linked to the origin of life

Duh. If it wasn't for my daily dose of sugar, there'd be a trail of dead bodies behind me.
