Pistachio and Anchovy

When I was young I was picked on quite a bit. The usual set of circumstances, I was an easy target (smart, quiet, odd, insecure) and once the kids found my buttons they didn’t relent. For a long time I tried to ignore them. I spent a lot of time reading because I thought that with a book in front of my face I would blend into the background. And, for a while I did. From behind those first books I developed my love of the written word. Beginning with the marvels I found in the library and then later the stories I found in my own head. My need to escape elementary school torment helped foster my imagination, I suppose. I need to thank those kids for that.

So anyway, a few times the kids pretended that they wanted to be my friend. A kid would ask if I wanted to hang out on the playground either at recess or after school. The first couple of times I bought it. It was a pathetic display of desperation that, looking back now, makes me laugh. You can see that kid, right?...very awkward, over-filled book bag, disheveled clothes, greasy hair, hopeful smile. I would wait for my friend to show up and of course they wouldn’t and I would eventually trudge home. Sometimes they would gather somewhere along my route and give me a hard time shouting “Who were you waiting for back there?” and “Did you really think we’d be friends with you.” It was worse when they would wait until the next day bringing my humiliation to school to share with the rest of the class.

Why am I telling you this? Well…insight I suppose and also to offer some context that you may draw from for those times when I seem a bit vague (yes, really). I have had to overcome and still battle with some pretty substantial trust issues. Always present in the back of my mind is the voice telling me to watch out for anyone who gets too close because they probably have an ulterior motive that will leave me in a rut. It has taken me a long time and years of therapy to be able to ignore that voice and share even my more simple weaknesses with friends (without the guise of fiction). And, so I share this piece of myself, my past with you.

p.s. I am not sure what you will glean from my palate but my gut holds plenty.

(Not at present: soon and I'll let you know when.)

OP J. Ahaha, fellow school skipper. I did skip school alot to tell you the truth but did not skip 4th grade my parents would not let me.
Oh, I did read something about IQ's earlier today. You J are in a class way above many and you can join Mensa. (the elite group for smart people)
I cannot. I think I miss the requirements by 3 points or something like that.

Shakespeare was off the charts they said paraphrasing here. 168 or higher is in the Shakespeare category. I had to chuckle at that one.

Anonymous said...

True andrea. I dont put much credence into them. You can always learn and grow on your own and i am sure as you get older you score would change. I've read not by much but it can.
Who knows? Who is to say for sure?
I know the test was invented in 1905 that'll tell you something right there. :0

Anonymous said...

Yep, I'm okay B, thanks

Original Punk J said...

And, there's always black, Amy, if you find nothing else.

BI, when I was tested again in--what? 10th grade?--my IQ was then 151. It was higher than my boyfriend's, and he was not amused.

Imagine.

But, they talked to me about advanced classes and all that other crap. I didn't want to do that. I was smart enough to know there was more work in the advanced classes, and since I hated schoolwork, why would I want to do more? :P

And Mensa? Mmm, don't think so. I always imagine the members being hoity-toity and snobbish, in the fakest kind of way. And I'm not like that.

So I'll just hang out with everyone else. I'm happy.

Anonymous said...

Looks around )_) (_(

I showered today. I really did. I swear

Andrea said...

I kinda always wanted to join Mensa, but I'm not willing to pay an annual fee to do it.

ergoproxy said...

andrea they test one aspect of intelligence, and they are better these days than in the past
though there are many types of ability that IQ tests miss.
But they are a tool, though not an end point

Andrea said...

Very true, Ergo.

Anonymous said...

I am glad your not the snobbish kind J. Good to know. :)
I didnt like school either. I did like college. They didnt treat you like a little kid.

My iq was 126. I think. I was told you can only have even numbers from an iq test, is that true?
I bet your b/f was not amused. Too bad on him. ;P

My husband always says I am smarter than he is. I dont know about that. I tend to "read" more than he does that could be it.

ergoproxy said...

I was suggested Mensa but didn't really see the point, it's not really relevant to anything I do in real life

Andrea said...

BI, there are different IQ tests that are scored differently. The test that I took doesn't have any restriction as far as odd or even numbered scores, but I can't speak for the test you took. They're all a little different from one another. By the same token, a 126 on one particular test may not be the same as a 126 on another test. Some of them have different scales of measurement.

Anonymous said...

Aw thats nice of you OPJ to hang out with the lower classes and stupid people since you are so smart!!! Thanks for thinking about the rest of us!! But if your IQ is so high why do you always act like an immature ass on the blog and why is your writing so bad?? And how come you never had a real job and you spend your time on a blog trying to get into Frank Iero's pants instead of going out with all your smarts and doing something?? Oh I forgot it's because you're not a snob.

You are so fake.

Amyranth said...

Augh! Blasted Electro-box!

Again, I will remind you of your friends, spelling and punctuation.

In fact, why don't you use the spellcheck function on your personal computer?

ergoproxy said...

Mensa has to be at least in the 98th percentile (top 2% of scores)

I don't see anything spelled wrong..... But then again I'm not the one claiming to be soooo smart.

July 29, 2008 1:17 AM

Why pay someone for permission to be smart? (joke)

BI, reading a lot DOES improve your vocabulary, your stores of knowledge, and your attitude towards so many things (I think). I love to read. I'd much rather read than watch TV.

Anonymous said...

1:25 sounds like a certain rockstar

Anonymous said...

You have to have a 131 and above to join Mensa.
At least you can ergo and andrea and J if you wanted to.
I wouldnt pay to join them even if I could.

you are right that there are many other things that factor into a person's intelligence. It is just that a tool

Anonymous said...

Anon at 1:25, OPJ is not nice. My personal opinion is that she's a paranoid shit head.

Anonymous said...

1:28 it does doesn't it, but I wasn't talking about him.

Andrea said...

Right, percentile can be applied to any IQ test, regardless of the way it's scored. So if you get 125 on one test, and 130 on another, you *should* (in theory) still be in the same percentile, within a reasonable margin of error.

Anonymous said...

Anon at 1:25, OPJ is not nice. My personal opinion is that she's a paranoid shit head.

But remember she's a tortured soul!! It isn't easy being so smart and being smarter than everyone else. Especially when you don't sound smart. That must be frustrating so you can't blame her for being so tortured!

Anonymous said...

ergo, the funny thing is I found a chart that gives suggestions of what people with certain iq's occupation would be. ie: a teacher with iq of 124-132 and so on.
Very interesting. As I read through the article I started thinking of you and Amy. If i can find it I'll "try" to post it

Anonymous said...

Her smarts are probably what got her her 'special connection' to SS that they wrote about on mcrumourcontrol. He probably doesn't talk to anyone who isn't as smart as her.

andrea that is interesting. Thank you for the info. I dontknow what the heck i took it was a loong time ago. It was 4th grade. You always take many different tests in 4th grade.

Andrea said...

Lord knows I can never figure it out for myself.

I think one of the top occupations suggested by my IQ test was Librarian. I found it ironic, since the IQ test was being administered as part of an evaluation for a reading disability.

Go figure.

BI, I think, at least in Canada, that they do standardized testing for all kids around that age/year. Everyone gets the results mailed to their parents as far as I know.

The SPecial Connection is the dildo she talked about putting up his ass.

Anonymous said...

1:36. Please. The less said about that stuff that they wrote about SS, the better. It was embarrassing enough that they wrote it and brought it here. You don't have to keep bringing it back up. It was humiliating. It still is so can you drop it?

Anonymous said...

I agree that their SS porn shouldn't keep being brought up. It embarrasses me for him and for them. I hate when anons bring it up. Let the OPS keep making asses of themselves. They don't need you to keep reminding them about the SS porn, everyone knows about it.

Anonymous said...

Whatever. It didn't embarass them so I don't see why anyone else would feel like that but whatever. Sorry.

Anonymous said...

1:39 I feel I need to correct you. Wasn't it about a certain band member?

No one knows the identity of SS. That would be a bit presumptuous.

Anonymous said...

YOu might want to consider SS's feelings, should he ever come around again. Maybe it's not fun for him to keep having that brought up over and over.

This chart is not the exact one I read earlier today but it is close

89-100 would be employable as store clerks
111-120 have the ability to become policemen and teachers
121-125 should have the ability to excel as professors and managers
125 and higher demonstrate skills necessary for eminent professors, executives, editors

Amy,I didnt know they tested everyone in Canada. Interesting.

andrea, I just read something that said there are 5-6 parts and you can score differently on each one.

Original Punk J said...

1.24 and 1.25,

Well, let's start at the beginning. I don't judge people by their IQs. We were talking about it last night, and that's all there is to it. In my opinion, all the people here are very intelligent and well-spoken.

"Immature ass", am I? What you call immature, I call having a sense of humor and retaining childlike qualities. Sorry you think my writing's bad, but if you don't like it, don't read it. And if you feel you can do better, then by all means, feel free.

I worked for 15 years as a speech pathologist; I have a Master's degree. I worked in different jobs until 2004, when my health got so bad I had to apply for disability. I've been on disability for diabetes since 2006. THAT'S why I don't work now. But I most certainly did work, and wish that I still could.

Honestly, you anons are the ones who talk about me trying to get into Frank's pants. Yes, I do find him very attractive. He's my type. But I also think he's a wonderful musician, a kind soul, and a passionate activist. He's a good person. I like him. I don't usually talk about him at all b/c the minute I do, people like you crawl out of the woodwork and screech at me. There are other people here who talk about other men far more than I do about Frank. Start reading.

Obviously you have nothing better to do than lurk and wait for someone you don't like to come along. Then you can indulge in your hobby of harrassing other people.

You should take up something more rewarding, like reading to the elderly or working in a soup kitchen.

Anonymous said...

ergoproxy said...

I always think people should work with their abilities, high IQ may be of benefit in some fields but more practical skills which aren't tested for are much more beneficial in other fields. And learning styles can differ immensely as well as the way people recall
And all abilities need a certain degree of common sense and people skills. Many incredibly intelligent people be hopeless as they can't relate to others.
Finding the way to make someone shine is the important part regardless of where or how

Goodnight Andrea, sweet dreams.

Yes, BI, that's true. I scored very highly on a couple parts of my test, and not so well on a couple others.

mayo,

so that's truly that. what was ostensibly keeping me here is done. i'm free to return to my life, whatever that might be.

and i'm so ready to go. i have cabin fever. i need winter to be over.

but it's not quite the changing of the seasons yet. i'm yearning for the fresh green air of spring, but there's a little bit of winter left for me to endure.

in her book the summer of the danes, ellis peters wrote "every spring is the only spring -- a perpetual astonishment." i am eager to step out into the new world that awaits me and see what wonders are there, i can feel the energy bubbling up under my skin, i am willing to do every thing for the first time again. all my hopes and dreams are there, in that sweet vibrant season just ahead.

the waiting isn't easy, but it's necessary. i'll need all my strength.

i just have to hibernate a little while longer. i'll sleep, and dream of bright green leaves.

good night, mayo. i have my charms and talismans to get me through. (playing one on repeat right now, in fact. *grin*) i hope you have some, too. we all need a little extra help, sometimes.

sweet dreams, my friend.

Mayo, the photos of your ex, burn them.

Free yourself.

elena said...

Fire can't free you from the past.

Anonymous said...

Maybe fire can't free you from the past, but burning those pictures of the ex can give you a little satisfaction as you watch them melt off the photo paper. It's even more fun to poke out their eyes in the photos first and then burn them.

elena said...

Anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering.

Just let go and move on. There is nothing to be gained in letting hatred for the past eat you alive.

Fire will destory the photo but not the emotions.

Trust me, I know.

Anonymous said...

I think burning them is better than hanging on to them and having them constantly remind you of that person and relive the anger every time you see them. For myself, when I burned every stupid photo of him I symbolically released the anger and the hold that he still had on me, and when the last one burned, I really did feel much better. But everyone is different and deals with these situations in their own way.

All this talk of picture burning has now gotten this song stuck in my head: Picture to Burn - Taylor Swift ^_^

Morning Mayo!

Morning FASC (in caravan), Elena & Anon(s)!

If I can stick my beak in I would say don't burn them Mayo. It's much more empowering to keep a photo and choose not to look at it - demonstrate to yourself that a piece of paper has no hold over you! Then again, I'm writing as a girl who can never buy multipacks of chocolate bars, etc... because I have ZERO self-control.

FASC, is the weather as s*** as it is here?

I agree elena.

Good *insert time of day here* Mayo, SS, Kass, FASC (in caravan), Elena, BC, Possum, Miranth; various non rabid anons, watchers and lurkers; pyromaniacs and fire fighters in the world o’blogbelieve.

How are you today? Hardy and jaunty, I hope!

*sneaks up behind Kass and wraps her in anaconda like grip, again*

FASC: Thank you for having that glass of red wine for me, love!!! It was aged and chilled to perfection. Would you mind having something a bit stronger for me today? How about a nice Long Island Iced Tea, a Bloody Mary or Grey Goose and Pineapple - I repeat P-I-N-E-A-P-P-L-E! Or, if those are too complicated, GlenLivet on the rocks will be most satisfactory! ;)
Continue having fun and staying safe!

Ergo: Has that darn falcon landed yet? Or, was it an eagle? It’s been so long since I sent him on his merry way, I forgot which it was. *smoooooooooch*

Anon with Ville/Manna video: Thank you. I do love the song! T’was very nice of you to think of me. That is quite a stirring song, isn’t it? Well, it stirs something deep inside me! I needed to smoke three cigarettes (at once) after listening. Perhaps anon was trying to kill me? Hmmm....
;P

*gasps for air*

BC: I sent you a long e-mail yesterday. Did you receive it, sweet cheeks? I miss you too!!!! *humongous hug and kiss*

To read and ponder (or not) today:

The Echo of Life

A man and his son were walking in the forest.
Suddenly, he trips and feeling a sharp pain he
screams, "Ahhhhhh!" Surprised, he hears a voice
coming from the mountain, "Ahhhhh!" Filled with
curiosity, he screams, "Who are you?" but the only
answer he receives is, "Who are you?" This makes
him angry, so he screams, "You are a coward!" and
the voice answers, "You are a coward!"

He looks at his father, asking, "Dad, what is going on?"

"Son," the man replies, "pay attention!" Then he screams,
"I admire you!" The voice answers, "I admire you!"

The father shouts, "You are wonderful!" and the voice
answers, "You are wonderful!"

The boy is surprised, but still can't understand what
is going on.

The the father explains, "People call this an 'echo' but truly
it is 'life!' Life always gives you back what you give out.
Life is a mirror of your actions. If you want more love, give
more love. If you want more kindness, give more kindness. If
you want understanding and respect, give understanding and
respect. If you want people to be patient and respectful to
you, give patience and respect. This rule of nature applies
to every aspect of our lives."

Life always give you back what you give out. Your life is not
a coincidence, but a mirror of your own doings.

BlogBelieve,

Have a nice Tuesday! Be careful out there, it's a crazy, crazy world. Oh wait, no. That's in here. We should be fine then.

Carry on. Carry on.

Katherine,

Awesome to read you back 'round these parts again. You have been missed.

TJ,

Would you believe that I sat straight up in my bed last night or sometime early this morning and went to myself, "Oh My GOD! TJ was supposed to find out from the doctor and you didn't bother to ask before you went to bed!" I guess it's because you weren't here before I left, but I forgot. But my mind has a way of reminding me at the craziest times....anyways, my point in my pointless long story is this...Glad you heard from me, glad it's still not cancer, but now I'm wondering what it is. Hmmmm.....leave it to inhabitants of BlogBelieve to stump the medical world.

FASC,

You are fucking missed! Hope you are having a fabulous time!

*waves to Mr. Bloke*

Fimmy,

Hope you enjoyed your movie last night. Chick Flick! Did you cry? Hope the eye is feeling better.

LEATHERMOUTH!!!!! REGGIE!!!!!

PPU,

I'm ♥ing you from here, there, and everywhere today. Can you feel it?

Mwah Mwah!

Mayo,

Have a terrific Tuesday! If things get to feeling too abnormally normal today, just hang around this place for a bit. You're bound to catch the absurd, the completely crazy, the beautiful, the amazing, the magical, and the just plain fucking weird if you hang around here long enough.

Some days and some nights, I just shake my head in disbelief while wiping tears of laughter from eyes.

Love to YOU Always,
S

p.s. Are we really going back to that again?

(Yes, I sprinkled my waffle with Extra Snarky cinnamon and Don't Give a Fuck syrup. You should really try it. It's delish.)

Smoke said...

Seriously people. Laugh out freakin' loud.

And did someone say LEATHERMOUTH??????!??!??!???

Oh my freaking gaaaawwwddd.

hey all

thanks PP and everyone who liked my Dad's work, I'm pretty proud of him, it was a cool part of my childhood being part if the world of galleries and theatre and I must see about getting him on teh net

Mayo hope you've had a good start to the week, and that it's warmer there than here. Apparently we are heading for record low temps for this time of year. One area down south had snow yesterday and they are predicting frost so I just went out to cover my plants, you do what you can but nature will be nature. I suppose all you can do sometimes is anticipate, try and see if what you're doing will reap benefits or prevent damage into the future, like people and relationships really, you can judge so far and then you have to let your conscience be your guide, So hoping your conscience always guides you in the right direction, wishing you strength, insight, foresight and wisdom much love EP xx

(lol that got a bit deep considering I began with the weather)

SS hoping your week is shaping up well and will be a good one, full of rewarding experiences and opportunities, sending you charisma, confidence and chances lotsa love EP x

goodnight blogbelieve see you in my morning

Okay, later!

Okay, it was more a clever takeoff than laughs, but it was pretty good, right?

Have a great day everyone!

Goodnight. =)

"beautiful Mrs Mayo"

How do you know she's "beautiful"? She might be ones of those girls with a personality.

Anonymous said...

beautiful doesn't just mean beautiful in looks. I think the anon was sayin' she is beautiful in Mayo's eyes.

Anonymous said...

Scorpio-

Feed your mind whenever you can today -- and don't give it any junk thinking! Gossip, trends, celebrity news and other types of shallow input won't do much to improve your mood or give you many good things to talk about. Turn the channel to the news station and education yourself on what's going on in the real world. Skip reality television and instead pick up a good book. You don't have to swear off silly stuff forever, but you do have to remind yourself how smart you are.

Ummm, no I don't. WTF is that all about? My being a genius is common knowledge.

Pffft.

As if.

Anonymous said...

Ward...you were a little hard on the Beaver last night!

Anonymous said...

Did J actually lie again last night and say that anons posted their Frank / SS porn here? Another lie, since it was J that posted it here as a present for his birthday right before Halloween. I also wish the anons would stop Reposting it, but if J is saying that she never posted it here she's lying again.

Anonymous said...

Masturbation is a sin...let ye who has a free hand cast the first stone.

Anonymous said...

OPJ, Lying? NO! (Sarcasm)

Emerald said...

You know, I had no idea we were BACK in school. Those bullies, well, we have them right here.

First things first. The anons right NOW who are bashing my best friend, please sign in so I may speak to you under your internet name, not as a faceless coward. Then we will discuss a few things.

L.

Anonymous said...

There is nothing to discuss. If she says she didn't post it here she's lying again. And you are both anonymous many times.

Emerald said...

Still waiting.

Emerald said...

And yes, there is PLENTY to discuss.

Emerald said...

Now, are you going to remain a bullying coward, or are you going to tell me who you are?

Anonymous said...

Bullies? Sure. After you guys posted an insult to the entire blog accidentally signed in, then yanked it, posted it elsewhere NOT signed in and then proceeded to blame your mistake on a bunch of people who happened to be around at the time and then said that anyone who saw the post was lying. Then blamed people for hacking blogger to send out fake emails. And for months and months keep picking on the same people. And YOU'RE getting bullied. Right.

Anonymous said...

there is PLENTY to discuss, like the secret you know about Mayo.

Emerald said...

Again, are you going to remain a bullying coward, or are you going to tell me who you are?

Tell, you what. I will make coffee while you think about it.

Anonymous said...

Forget them 10:24. They'll do or say anything to make it look like they didn't do the things they did to divide and hurt the blog. If there's nothing to discuss then forget it.

Anonymous said...

I'm sure that Mayo regrets telling any "two people" his secret knowing that the two people were going ot tell the OPS who were going to blurt it out here in order to divide people.

Anonymous said...

About her Frank / SS porn OPJ said, "

Well, we know that's not true. Never brought it here. That was YOU guys who did that."

This is another lie. They posted it here right before Halloween for Frank's birthday. How they can lie so blatantly is beyond me. Even if they delete it, everyone's rections to it are still there.

Anonymous said...

every couple of months the OP's fuck up and have a fallen out with people on the blog.

also OPJ, stop begging for Mayo's attention. it's pathetic.

Anonymous said...

Why should any anon sign in when they're going to pick people to blame anyway? Let them think what they want.

Anonymous said...

Frank loves Jamia not OPJ. get over it.

Anonymous said...

11:05, that is not fair to the person and group of people they DO blame.
