Pistachio and Anchovy

When I was young I was picked on quite a bit. The usual set of circumstances, I was an easy target (smart, quiet, odd, insecure) and once the kids found my buttons they didn’t relent. For a long time I tried to ignore them. I spent a lot of time reading because I thought that with a book in front of my face I would blend into the background. And, for a while I did. From behind those first books I developed my love of the written word. Beginning with the marvels I found in the library and then later the stories I found in my own head. My need to escape elementary school torment helped foster my imagination, I suppose. I need to thank those kids for that.

So anyway, a few times the kids pretended that they wanted to be my friend. A kid would ask if I wanted to hang out on the playground either at recess or after school. The first couple of times I bought it. It was a pathetic display of desperation that, looking back now, makes me laugh. You can see that kid, right?...very awkward, over-filled book bag, disheveled clothes, greasy hair, hopeful smile. I would wait for my friend to show up and of course they wouldn’t and I would eventually trudge home. Sometimes they would gather somewhere along my route and give me a hard time shouting “Who were you waiting for back there?” and “Did you really think we’d be friends with you.” It was worse when they would wait until the next day bringing my humiliation to school to share with the rest of the class.

Why am I telling you this? Well…insight I suppose and also to offer some context that you may draw from for those times when I seem a bit vague (yes, really). I have had to overcome and still battle with some pretty substantial trust issues. Always present in the back of my mind is the voice telling me to watch out for anyone who gets too close because they probably have an ulterior motive that will leave me in a rut. It has taken me a long time and years of therapy to be able to ignore that voice and share even my more simple weaknesses with friends (without the guise of fiction). And, so I share this piece of myself, my past with you.

p.s. I am not sure what you will glean from my palate but my gut holds plenty.

(Not at present: soon and I'll let you know when.)

Sank Yuu BC!

Ergo, there's tons of created stones out there. The easiest way to tell is if you're looking at a ruby that is as clear as day and the deepest red you've ever seen.

And the price tag reads $299.00

amy you have to be really careful buying stones don't you! They put the "created" in tiny little writing.
At the basic jewellers here nearly all their coloured stone is created. But the price is a dead giveaway.

Although GW looked atired at comic con he looked happy and I saw what looked like genuine smiles on his face in most of the photos. His wife looked very healthy and happy in the photo I saw of her and I wish them all the best.

To be honest most of you sound like disapproving mothers intimating he should not be spending his hard earned money on some harlot. She is his wife, why would he not buy her gifts? He should be enjoying his money that he worked hard for over the past few years and many people do this by treating those they love rather than indulging in selfish purchases. Good for him!

Also, I really have not seen many photos of them together and they can hardly be accused of PRism.

Just my opinion really.

There are only two kinds of people who buy msi music. MCR fangirls and people who think they are punks.

The punks won't buy that kind of stuff. And MCR fangirls have to use their parents money. So I don't think they will be buying the stuff either.

Once a transaction has taken place, you have bought and paid for a CD, concert ticket etc, the money is no longer yours.

GW is not a public body and the money he has earned is not a tax and it would be too weird for people to be able to dictate what rock stars should spend their money on.

I really don't see what the problem is in him buying gifts for his wife.

there are companies who would benefit from the association however fleeting it may be. get them to wear your clothes for eg and anyone looking at a mag may just notice it, regardless of their feelings for the band.

Most people, by choice, would like to own a house and I would not expect others who cannot afford a house to criticise the homeowner for that purchase. A husband can buy his wife a ring.

Personally I am not matierial minded. I don't own a house, I don't have an engagement ring but I don't begrudge those that have those things.

I would feel differently if I found out that GW had left close family in abject poverty while he was spending money foolishly on himself, that is something I would never forgive.

Thank you, MJ. The only people who don't get that are the ones who don't want to.

I'm especially pissed at my hard-earned money going partially into the pockets of MSI at that show. That put me & probably some others in an awkward ethical position. Given MSI's track record of writing and performing songs about racial hatred, sexual degradation and child abuse, they should have been announced as the opening act before tickets went on sale. Actually, they never should have been the opening act at all, and I don't believe for one minute they would have been had Gerard not wanted his new wife with him on tour. Fair enough, so bring her, but leave her crappy band at home.

Far as I'm concerned, Gerard can write. Gerard can sing. But he's not the only one who gets paid when I buy TUA or a MCR CD. I have respect for Frank, Ray, Bob, Mikey, Gabriel, James, Nate and Dave as well.

I am against a lot of things. So far, none of the things I am against are things that Gerard himself has come out and said "Hey! I support that whole-heartedly and without question!". Therefore, I have no problem with him.

But I see my buying of MCR merch as going at the most 1/5 of the bands cut of the profits after expenses etc are taken out, and the other 4/5 I have no issue with.
From what I've seen and heard a great deal of the money Bert gets from the Used goes to drugs , alcohol and cars he totals, a lifestyle I don't approve of, but I like the music so the money goes where the money goes, I don't really let it concern me that much as I can't control it

I agree. I wish we could have gotten an explanation, I really do. Do I think we'll ever get one? Probably not. Would it offer a bit of solace for the fans who feel a little dejected? I can't answer for everyone, but it would feel so much better than not knowing anything.

I've been struggling with it since Aug. 22 last year. I've been hanging in there since then for the other members of the band, & in the hopes that once Gerard settled down a bit things would be better. Not only have they not been better, they just keep getting worse. I can't even listen to the albums any more without feeling miserable. This band meant a lot to me once, and it feels like something precious has been lost. But if I continue to support the indifference and the bad behavior then it feels like I'm dishonouring myself. It's been one hell of a dilemma. But like all losses, big or small, there comes a time when you've got to stop mourning & move on. So that's what I'm doing.

What Gerard spends his money on doesn't even really figure into it.

Yes Mustard, Gerard seems to be taking the fall for a lot of things. Contracts have a habit of being binding.

That is what happens when you are the front man and voice of the band. You are the one who is always put up there.

Also GW said that he felt that way. He is the one who opened up his mouth and said it. So he is been held accountable for it.

sdock10 said...

Gah, I just don't know. I don't think I've ever liked a band for their message. Maybe I should've. Maybe not.

It's just always been about the music for me.

Anonymous said...

How do you all feel about Frank saying (in the latest issue of AP) that sometimes he just wants to sing about setting girls on fire?

Bullets and Revenge were both about death, murder, etc. It's called storytelling.

Anonymous said...

have you ever heard leathermouth lyrics? they aren't pretty

Anonymous said...

the setting girls on fire comment would have been referring to murder was the case that they gave me

resurrected wreck said...

Hell, sometimes I want to sing about setting girls on fire!

can I just say it is such a shame Keith Moon died

I can find the quote, you'll just have to hang on a sec.

July 28, 2008 8:29 PM

I will need to see the context of the quote. But I haven't bought any of Leather mouths stuff either. I don't know enough about them yet.

And just so you know I also stopped supporting Linking Park for putting msi on the PR tour. I didn't just go after MCR

I agree 100%.

Anonymous said...

Maybe people in the business have made suggestions to move forward for whatever reasons.

Weird that I responded to what you said at the same time you said it! :)

Anyway, I understand, and I still maintain that had a member of the band said, "Guys? Remember that message thing we had a few years ago? Well, we've changed and we don't entirely support that now, so this is what we want to say...," I would not feel as bad, not that I "feel bad," just dejected and confused, you know?

Anonymous said...

I believe he also says in that interview that Leathermouth is an outlet for him to address and acknowledge every emotion he has never been proud to feel.

Anonymous said...

Hello Amyranth, Solly, Mustard, RW, Ergo and Anon!
How is everyone?

resurrected wreck said...

Hi, Star! :D

How's things?

What did you do to that guy in prison, Amyranth?

The title of that cd was
Honey, we're driving vampires through turnstiles on our way to the demolition derby for some valentine romance.

I think they had to shorten it. Couldn't fit on the jacket.

That's what I recall, too.

HELLO, STAR!

sdock10 said...

Hi Star!

How are ya?

Anonymous said...

It's just always been about the music for me.

Yes, but the music is often affected by a rockstar's behavior. Just ask any Guns N Roses fan.

Anonymous said...

I'm good, RW. How are you?

Martha Smith-Jones said...

Hello star.

I have no problem with lyrical content that isn't pretty. What I have a problem with is why are you saying those things.

Are you trying to show people that the world can be an ugly place or are you just trying to be shocking.
So more people will buy your CDs

Anonymous said...

From what I've seen and heard a great deal of the money Bert gets from the Used goes to drugs , alcohol and cars he totals, a lifestyle I don't approve of, but I like the music so the money goes where the money goes, I don't really let it concern me that much as I can't control it

July 28, 2008 8:05 PM

You don't know shit then. Shit.

Right, and when the music starts to suck for me, then I will move on, and I will probably be a little bummed about it, but I will find something brand new to take its place.

The other thing to consider is that Bert has openly admitted to drug and alcohol abuse, and I doubt that Mommy and Daddy are still paying him an allowance for that to come out of.

Anonymous said...

Bert admits to still smoking pot, but by all accounts, he doesn't do anything harder than that.

Different anon, by the way. But I do know a lot about The Used.

Anonymous said...

Mustard, maybe he should bring out his own finger skillz CD

ergoproxy said...

well anon just about every interview I have read from him seems to include references to him either being really drunk, really hung over, high, alluding to drug use in the past or present and he did total 2 cars while drunk, I'm not bothered finding the interviews I am just telling you the impression I've gotten from his interviews.
Whether it's true or not I don't know but that's how he makes it sound
Obviously you disagree and that's fair. I would hope it's mostly an act on his part.

MissTottenham said...

LOL Amy.

*takes tits back and slips them back in bras*

I wish those buggers would stay where I put them.

resurrected wreck said...

Drug taking aside, as far as I've seen Bert's never pretended to be something other than what he is.

Anonymous said...

He, who?

If by he you mean Raymond "Finger Skillz" Toro, then by all means!

ergoproxy said...

and by drugs I was referring to marijuana, it is still a drug as far as I know and illegal.
Just because one says drugs doesn't mean one is referring to hard drugs

Amyranth said...

MissT, mine never do.

Disobedient little buggers!

MissTottenham said...

LMAO Amy.

Oh damn, there goes that too.

ergoproxy said...

RW he never has, but my point was where money goes is up to the person with the money.

Amyranth said...

Christ Almighty!

*looks under the chair, the coffee table, and the couch again*

Damn MissT! I think that actually WENT!

-A

Anonymous said...

Bert has dealt with drug issues in the past, including meth addiction when he was very young. He's also had problems with pancreatitis because of drinking, which forced him to cut down on that.

According to people close to the band, he hasn't done hard drugs since 2005.

resurrected wreck said...

RW he never has, but my point was where money goes is up to the person with the money.

I agree. That was my point too.

MissTottenham said...

Aw crap.

Amy, could you just post it back to me if you find it.
