Today on my way home from class, I stopped off at the petrol station for some petrol. I paid on my card which wasn’t a lot, and then as I was getting into my car, I saw an old man walking past the building. He had a red and green stripy jumper which was frayed at the ends. He was also wearing some jeans that were dirty and had holes all over.
I sat there and became intrigued by him because I didn’t know what he was doing, so as I sat there and watched him, he continued doing what he set out to do.
He walked past the trash cans and first picked out a cup with some drink still in it (one of the cups that you get from burger king that has coke in it). He then walked over to the next trash can and pulled out the end of a half eaten sandwich. In my shock horror, he ate it and then went to sit on the wall to drink the drink he had found.
I felt sad, I wanted to give him my last $4 that I had but I was told when I was younger that you should never give people money, you should give them something they need or can use because that way, if they had an addiction, they would not be able to use the money for their addiction. So I went into the shop and bought a chicken sandwich from their deli counter and then walked out of the building.
The guy was still sat at the wall drinking his drink so I walked up to him and asked him if he would like this sandwich. He thanked me and said that he was hungry.
I should of felt good after that, doing something for someone else but all I could think of is where his next meal will come from or where in fact he will sleep tonight.

Don't let anyone tell you how to live your life. Hold your head up high and be proud of who you are. If you've had a shitty day and you feel like people just don't want you to be happy, and when you find yourself struggling to make it through the day, just keep on believing and keep the faith. Also, from personal experience, don't push people away. When they say they want to help and that they are there for you, let them in. Believe me, I know how fucking scary that thought is, but don't shut others out.

Sometimes, when you look back on stuff in your life, you know, the crap that makes you shake your head and say, "Holy shit, what the Hell was I thinking?" it's part of what makes you - you.
I'm not perfect by any stretch of the imagination. I have made small mistakes and really big, fucking scary mistakes. Would I change those mistakes and blunders?
No. Wanna know why?
Because they make me - me. They help make up the person that I am, what I've learned the hard way. Hopefully I've learned from my mistakes and have become a better person for it. And, hopefully I don't repeat those same mistakes. Although, sometimes I repeat variations of certain ones, but I'm working on that. :)

Electric Blue
…today I saw a ulysses butterfly it was in our yard and settled to feed on our hibiscus. They really are fantastically beautiful things, the electric blue is amazing, however as they sit with their wings closed they are rather nondescript and dull. Sometimes people are like that, from the outside they seem unappealing but within there hides an amazing beauty for those lucky enough to see it. I hope you appreciate beauty in all things, and look for it perhaps where others miss it.

LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL.
I read your post again and suddenly without warning memories of construction paper filled my head. I remembered all the lop-sided flowers my girls made when they were young. Bright blue, yellow and pink flowers that were cut out with blunt end scissors would fill the windows to decorate for Easter. An occasional bunny was attempted but those usually ended up looking like creatures from a horror movie. Flowers were so much easier. I can close my eyes and hear the paper being cut into petals. I can smell the Elmer’s glue squirted on in huge blobs to attach each misshapen petal to form the flowers. We had a huge arts and crafts box full of wonderful items just waiting for their imaginations to turn into something wonderful. In my mind I see my daughters, as they once were, small, blond little girls sitting on the floor surrounded by scraps of paper and other art supplies. They would create their masterpieces then proudly show each other. Oh and Lord the messes that would ensue if the glitter made an appearance. Now, the box is forgotten. I’m not really sure where it even is anymore. The few flowers so lovingly created that survived are faded and dusty and high on a shelf they sit. Time marches on, so many things get left behind.
Today was the first Easter I spent alone. I don’t think it really upset me until I remembered the construction paper flowers. Of course I understand that my daughters are growing up and have lives of their own. But understanding doesn’t make it any easier to accept. I miss my little girls in their frilly Easter dresses. ok it started at my home sort of, and I was on the porch and started to fall through the floorboards (which I have done as it needs replaccing) but it ended up feeling like a hammok lowering me down then I had to go somewhere so I had a bike which I thought was a motor bike but then it was like a pushbike sometimes and I was weaving in and out of traffic and it was getting dark and as I got to this big roundabout near a hospital I needed to turn the light on but I couldn't find it, then it was a girls pink trike which had no light so I got off and left it in a grassy area and walked to go over to make a call home, I didn't have my phone but my cousins and I couldn't work it and as I went to cross the road this young guy and his girlfriend weer there, he had a black and white striped hoodie adn was thin and he started hassling me, bumping me adn trying to grab my hand which he then did and pressed his nails into me so I pulled it up to my mouth and bit his little finger, which when he pulled away came off the bone and I spat it out. He was really upset but distracted enough I got over to teh hospital which was a school now and had these huge solid metal gates everywhere in the hallways that they were closing as it went into lockdown and got dark and I had to get out and ended up in a waiting room trying to make a call, worrried they'd come to get me re the finger thing, but there were taxis out the front so I got one home and the backseat was full of my daughters pens and stuff so I collected them and was trying to figure out how to get back to get the bike when i woke up!

NOTES ON THE BEST MUSE SONGS SO FAR!
TIME IS RUNNING OUT
Okay, the whole thing. It just grooves so damn hard. This is so random, but it’s really hot how he says the word “friction.” I love the eerie, distorted keyboard that kicks in around :24. Right, and I love the way he drops the Ts off of “won’t” and “let,” he does that in some other songs too and I love that for some weird reason. He ends in a glottal stop instead; that’s something a lot of Western Long Islanders actually have in common with some of the British dialects. Except it doesn’t sound as cool when the WLIers do it. ;D
In the chorus, all of them actually, that start with “bury it, I won’t let you bury it,” the drums just own. On “Our time is running out,” all the chorusus, the drums are just going “BANG BANG BANG BANG” with the cymbals. That’s something I either love or find madly annoying. Here it jsut works. This dude is an incredible drummer, everything he does works.
What I really notice about Muse, and notice especially in this song, is the really heavy crunchy guitar chords, and really delicate, quickly picked solos. (I seem to remember that that technique was called “drilling” but I could be wrong?)

STOCKHOLM SYNDROME
Right, well I’m obsessed with this song, let’s start there. The beginning sounds a little like early thrash metal, mixed in with a little NIN.
At :22 when the lyrics kick in, the drums are doing that thing I love again, like almost a melody as much as a rhythm. This is a pattern I hear in quite a few of their songs and I LOVE it. It sounds so exhausting; I get tired just by listening.
:30- :36 on the word “grow” from the line “let your hatred grow,” it’s the background voice that I like. The harmony there is a little Bealtesesque, as many of their harmonies are. (This also goes for “let your anger rise,” and “let hope burn in your eyes,” same harmony.)
The way the guitar kicks in so massivly at 1:20 is orgasmic.
And of course, my favorite parts: “abandon you” and “forget you” the layered vocals combined with the crazy keyboard melody in the background. Favorite part in the entire thing.
Starting at 3:29 all I’m thinking is, “These guys played video games, seriously.” It sounds like right out of a game soundtrack. Then at 3:53 when the rhythm switches up and kicks you right in the face before the last chorus, it just rocks my face off.
This entire song rocks my face clean off, seriously. I listen to it, and I have no face for the duration of the song.
HYSTERIA
Right, this kicks the ass of the Def Leppard song by the same name that I loved as a child. ^_^ From the beginning, again, video game sounds. ^_^ The guitar hook on this sounds vaguely early 90’s ish without sounding dated.
Here’s where I have to say something about Muse’s melodies, this is going to sound weird. Sometimes Ill hear a melody that’s exactly the way I would have written something if I could at all write music in any way. It’s perfect, just the way I want a melody to go, and yet it’s not predictable because it surprised me that anyone else would have found this as perfect as I did. So hard to explain.
I think why I love this song so much is really because of how he sings, “I want it now, I want it now,” it sounds entirely too sincere and that’s completely ridiculously hot. Anyone else might have sounded like Veruca Salt (the character, not the band,) but he gets away with it. I also really like the effects on this, the vocal effects.
2:44 guitar melody is another example of the melody that exists in my head manifesting in someone else’s music, someone with talent.
BLACKOUT
Is it me, or does the beginning of this sound like Ave Maria? To me it does.
Here’s that really fast picking again, only here it feels more like a mandolin. The first time Splash had me listen to this song I said it sounded like an Italian mourning song. I still can’t shake that vibe.
1:25, the way the guitar and the humming voices come into the game gives me chicken skin.
Here’s an example of me liking the live version of a song better, and that’s mostly ‘cause of the guitar solo. It’s pretty, it pulls you in, but on the live one I saw thanks to Splash, he does something with the guitar that makes it sound like an alarm, a siren of something. Made my hairs stand up the first time I heard that.
3:11, his voice comes back in with such emotion it’s kinda heartbreaking. At 3:27 he hardly finishes the word “don’t” and almost hums it instead. That’s one of those little charms that I so love in singing.
Around 3:35 the strings come in and then the rest of it builds up and then just mellows out for the Ave Maria kind of ending again.
THOUGHTS OF A DYING ATHIEST
This is a favorite because, again, of the melody. (The lyrics really speak to me, too.)
I wish I could explain better about the hangup on melodies that I have. They sound familiar to me, as if I’d written them. Not heard them somewhere, but written them myself.
And I”m mostly giving the nod to this song because of the awesome John Lennon-esque thing he does on each last “yeah” in each chorus.

SUPERMASSIVE BLACK HOLE
Well, YEAH!
So, the first time I heard him singing in the falsetto voice I was like, “Aww man, I wonder if this is gonna work for me?” Well guess what? HELL YEAH.
The song is very repetitive so there’s not a lot to say that I won’t say each time, but it should be repetitive because this song is for grooving and getting down with your bad self.
1:21, dropping the T on “thought” again and I love that crap.
The lyrics are just about as hot as they could get for physics geek wanna be like yours truly. This is how I view romance, straight up.
Aside from the beat, I guess mostly it’s the “Ooooohhhhhhaaaaaaaahhhhh you set my soul alight” that gets me. ^_^
SOLDIER’S POEM
About as sad and pessimistic as it gets, right? But I haven’t heard melodies and harmonies like this since the Fireflies.
:49, the background vocals, the rising scale and 1:02 falling again.
And 1:10 “I would still lay down my life for you” is a beautiful melody.
There’s something tongue in cheek to this song, too, but it isn’t snarky or insincere either.

Thank you for introducing me to this song, S(S)S. The beginning of it sounds like early, early Pink Floyd. Like “Julia Dream” kind of early Pink Floyd. And I love most any song that has marching drums in it.
The lyrics are simple without being stupid and pure without being facile. Isn’t that lovely?
What’s the instrument that starts around 1:15? It follows the melody, which is very intriguing.
2:20 I like the way it starts to build up. This whole song seems to build up to the guitar solo, right? The bass at around 3:30 pretty much owns; I love a heavy, melodic bassline.
Right around 4:20 he starts to sound a little like David Bowie, right? To me, a little bit. ^_^

CITY OF DELUSION
This song is another eargasm, the way it builds up, and I also think that this is his best vocal work out of everything I’ve heard. I love when singers let their voices soar. It sounds like so much fun.
Around :41 the bass comes in with a really Eastern melody that appeals to me in every way. Then at 1:05 it gets really eastern. 1:28 onwards and everytime he does “I will avenge,” the way his voice just opens up and what the music does behind him (especially the strings,) is, again, something straight out of my head that I could never articulate. That’s every time they do that. I love when the best part of the song happens again and again, and this band is great for that. They just keep giving it!
And of course the lyrics say so much that needs to be said. Lyrically they remind me a little of 30 Seconds To Mars self titled. Back when 30STM sang about ideas, revolution, conspiracy and things other than that useless thing you humans call “emotion.” ;D
4:00, the way the guitar brings it back into the chorus, and 4:16, the last “I will avenge” sounds so meaningful you can’t deny it.
