When was the last time...

Recess.

Blaze a trail of peel-outs and back seat fucks
Into permanence, slammed beyond the thick
much too fast. Recall the whistle's urgent
cry to return from the field too soon and
pulling warm hands back, while whispering in the ears of those
confident to hold their tongues. Now it is late night
debates and those whispers are ignored.
Spinning out, into the ditch,
wheels in motion without regard for direction
full speed ahead arriving at a permanent reprieve
from the creaking knees
and loose bowels of reproach.
It comes without warning, incredible is its speed,
and it will tempt even the most
guileless to race. The truck arrives hooked to pull
the twisted spokes and reveals the fuel stain
seeped into the cracks and crevices.
Smothering the gravitational pull of the earth’s core
and even then you will float, pulled by a chain.

p.s. you felt like that?

ergo, can't wait to see what you think of -- it will be so nice to have something in my mailbox that isn't junk or bills!

ok I have a frog joke
(which is due to my bro being a professional trombonist)

One night the ambulance is called to a terrible accident, A singing dancing frog and a trombonist on his way to a paying gig were run down by a truck, which one did they pick up first?

The frog, the other doesn't exist.

Possum, I missed a Murphy's concert last year, not too happy about that. This year however, anyone who comes to town is fair game.

What's your favorite murphy's song?

AMYRANTH -

Thank you for posting that Anti-Flag video. I felt a little bit like I did the first time I watched "I'm Not Okay," which was my introduction to MCR.

It was awesome, but I don't want to get too invested. What if they turn-coat like Gerard did and start doing the opposite? I'm about to hop aboard and look for more by them, but I'm wary now, you know? I hate believing in something and then feeling depressed and stupid when I find out my belief was naive.

What else is this band about? What's their story?

(That was the first question I asked after I'd read Gerard's quote that began "Hey girls..." I said, "What's their story?" and that led me to I'm Not Okay which, yeah.)

Is it stupid that I get so excited over music that means something?

Anonymous said...

No.

Goodnight :)

Love, hate, miss, want. And all of Mayo's answers, particularly the first one to the first question, made me go O_O IIRC.

Splash, you are much too young to think that there's not enough time to follow your bliss. We all are, Mayo too. I don't care how old you are. (And you're one of the youngest, Splash, so STFU. ;D )

We can play love, hate, miss, want again if you guys would like.

Amyranth, I did some googling. That band, they're not going to sell out, are they?

Feminism Is For Everybody With A Beating Heart And A Functioning Brain

I nearly voided my bowels with joy when I read that, but you know, Gerard used to talk that talk, too. He never talked it quite so hard, but still.

Anyway, I googled, I read, I liked. Like, a lot.

Thank you, Amyranth. ^_^

I gotta go to bed. Damn, I don't know why I decided to start a project of such magnitude so late in the frigging game. >_< I'm frustrated now.

Goodnight, FrogBelieve! ^_^

Kapu, well, you can check out the webpage, but I really reccomend picking up a CD.

They have a reason for writing every song, and they give you essays on the song, and links to different websites that backup the meaning behind the song.

Check out Emigre, 1 Trillion Dollar$, The Press Corpse, and if you can find it, Spaz's House Destruction Party.

It really has no political significance, but it's a truly awesome song.

Mayo:

Hey, man. I was doing a lot of thinking tonight. That doesn't happen as often as it should, but when it does, it's hardcore.

I found this quote, and then I remembered back to when we played "Love, Hate, Miss, Want." You answered Time.

Well, I found this quote, and it made me start thinking. Mostly how we don't have enough. There are so many things I'd like to do, but I feel so rushed some days. And I never get around to doing them.

There's this one thing I've kinda been wanting to become a part of. It has to do with music education and keeping it available to children in school. The only thing is is I'm not really sure how I should start or really where I should start. And mostly, I don't feel like I have enough time.

And then there's all this other crap that people expect of me and that I expect of myself and then there's no time life for just me. It's a delicate balance. I think I'm tipping the scale.

So, I guess tonight, I hope you find the time to do the things you want to do and be with the people you want to be with. And time to find yourself.

Goodnight, Mayo. Pleasant dreams.

SS:

So glad to know it's about the frogs now, too ;)

I feel like I've run out of things to say to you. "Thank you" can only hold it's value for so long. I feel like it's always on the tip of my tongue.

But, I'll say it once more tonight. You can imagine it in your head.

And I know it's an old topic and you don't have to answer. Maybe it'll make you think nonetheless. Kapunua posed the question awhile back about the things we Love, Hate, Miss, and Want.

What are those things to you? Think about it.

You've been good to us. I hope we have been able to return some of that.

Goodnight, buddy. Feel froggy tomorrow ;)

goodnight Mustard!!

TJ musician jokes are classic, but a lot of people don't get them- lol

I gave this one to him when my nephew was born.

How can you tell a trombonists kid in a playground?

he's the one who can't swing and complains about the slide!

and a few more for good measure:

How many trombone players does it take to change a light bulb?

Only one, but he'll spend half an hour trying to figure out what position he needs to be in.

How many trombonists does it take to change a lightbulb?

5: 1 to change it, and 4 to make ludicrous sexual comments.

How many trombones does it take to screw in a light bulb?

One, but he will do it too loudly.

However in his defense:

Why are trombones the best lovers?

Trumpets do it with three fingers, baritones do it with four, and trombones do it in seven positions!

But for one's I've known..

A trombone player walks past a bar.

Could have fooled me!

SS if you're about hope you enjoyed them too!

For those of you that are curious, couldn't see the video, or were too busy not recognizing the lyrics.

"This Is The End (For You My Friend)"

Seems every station on the TV
is selling something no one can be
If every page was torn from the magazine
would cash still drive the media machine?
The products, damage and pursuit are endless
identity can leave you selfless

We will not witness this anymore
This is the end for you my friend
I can't forgive, I won't forget
on and on, we sing our songs and
on and on, the wars wage on and
on and on, we sing our songs for more
for more

Your eyes are open but you can't see
your mouth is moving but you don't speak
a blitzkrieg of images to break your will
I hope you choke on every pill

We will not witness this anymore
This is the end for you my friend
I can't forgive, I won't forget
on and on, we sing our songs and
on and on, the wars wage on and
on and on, we sing our songs for more

The Mayo Gothic continues

The Direful Secret of Castle Mayo
by
Elena and Toujours

chapter 13

- fimble's expression matched the determined tone in her voice, and none standing there in the hall had any disagreement with her.-

So once again the women found themselves deep below the Castle Mayo. As they walked the darkened stone floors of the cellar many continued to speak of the events that had befallen them this day.

“This whole castle is magic” Paperheart said sounding quite happy with the notion. “Like a make-believe place. Only it’s real.”

“Could we not look for this elusive appearing – disappearing passage later?’ S&V sounded quite annoyed.

“We shall hold the party when we have finished here.” Sdock said. She knew the party was high on her sister’s list of priorities.

“Yes, we must find Bikey first.” MissT said.

“I thought we were looking for the passage way.” Amy said looking over at MissT, “Not Bikey. You know full well that he comes and goes as he pleases. He probably just decided to leave when the attack was over and he knew we were safe.”

“Like the Ghost.” CTV said smiling, “Ghost leaves once our safety is assured.”

Arabella wasn’t sure that was true. She had the distinct feeling the Ghost wandered the castle often. She moved to the spot she knew had been the opening to the passage way. Her fingers ran over the cold stones. “I do not understand this. It was here.”

“Magic” Paperheart smiled.

“But why does the magic of the passage way only work for Arabella?” Sister Midnight questioned.

Many of the women all muttered this same question.

Arabella turned to her sisters, “Truly I do not know. Perhaps Redrum knows.”

“But Redrum seems to have left the castle also.” Martha reminded her.

“What I do know.” Kapunua said, “Is that the torches are burning low and the darkness is growing. We should go back upstairs now. There is nothing to be gained by standing here staring at a solid stone wall.”

“Agreed.” Toujours said. She gently reached out to touch Arabella’s sleeve. “Perhaps you could describe Lord Mayo’s room to me and I could create a drawing.”

“But I could not see much of the room.” Arabella reminded her. “Only that what was visible through the crack in the doors.”

“Oh but it still would be of great interest.” FASC grinned, “I for one would love to see Lord Mayo’s private chambers.”

“Oh and the bedside table.” Jenn whispered. “With the forbidden drawer.”

Amy snorted in a very un-ladylike manner, “He probably just keeps undergarments in there.”

OPJ opened her mouth to make a comment about Lord Mayo’s undergarments. OPL’s hand shot out and covered her mouth. “Hush, not a word.”

The women all giggled.

“Let us go back upstairs. We are all back in the castle and have heard Lord Mayo’s words for the night. Now is the time to make merry.” Magic Pie said happily.
The women all moved to the stairs. This time Arabella did not linger behind.

Once they had returned from the cellar each of the Lovelies scurried about the castle gathering up items for the party. The storm had passed and it was decided to have the gathering outside on the large stone entryway of the castle. Soon music and laughter filled the night air. All noted Paperheart’s skill on the guitar. Torches were lit to ward off the darkness.

“I do wish Lord Mayo would join us.” Lucy said before taking a bite of the apple she held in her hand.

“That would be ever so wonderful.” Bella nodded. “But alas I do not believe Lord Mayo has ever stepped foot beyond the castle walls.”

“Oh but he has.” Pixie’s voice was full of joy, “It was my birthday and Lord Mayo stepped outside briefly to extend his best wishes.” She smiled at the memory.

“I was unaware.” Bella said frowning. “You saw him? He was truly here?”

“He stood in the shadows.” Pixie explained. “We heard his voice but then he was gone.”

“Lord Mayo the Magician.” Gnothi Seauton said with a laugh, “Now you see him, now you don’t.”

“But we always hear him.” Sdock said smiling, “His voice is like a warm blanket sheltering us from the cold.”

S&V rolled her eyes, “No more wine for you this night.” She shook her head, “Warm blanket.” She muttered.

Sdock shot her sister an icy glare and uttered a string of profanities.

“Ladies, ladies.” Mustard said deciding it was time to stand between them. “This is to be a happy occasion. No more bickering.”

“Look” Fimble voice caught everyone’s attention. “This big, fat fellow just hopped upon my foot.” She held up the large green frog for all to see.

“Keep the beast away from me.” Mustard said with a shudder. “I do not like frogs.”

“Oh, how could you not like them?” Anima said smiling as she reached out to touch the frog still in Fimble’s hand. “I think they are quite cute. They make me happy.”

A loud burst of giggling caused all to turn to look for the source.

“Oh my goodness.” Gentle Vengeance said in awe, "Look.” She held out her arm and pointed to a nearby clump of trees. There stood the Ghost.

“The Ghost is giggling.” PJ whispered.

The sound brought smiles to the faces of the Lovelies. Soon the sound of their own laughter joined with that of the Ghost.

TJ May Gibbs drawings are exquisite, they all had outfits like native flowers especially the gum tree flowers and the baddies were the big bad banksia men (another flower after it had finished it dies off and goes brown but stays like a cone shape), you should google them and see the illustrations I'm sure you'd love them. She wrote it in 1946 and heaps of aussie kids grew up with them.

i was thinking the style looked like it was from the 30's or 40's. there were some great illustrators at that time.

I think the detail and time they took is missing in a lot of kids books today, they are all bold and bright, really beautiful books are hard to find.

I found the Collected Stories of May Gibbs at a second hand bookstore.

Mayo

Another rough day for me. Crap, I bet you’re getting tired of me and my dark rain cloud.

You know I’m trying to put things in perspective. Yeah, lots of shit is going wrong right now in my life. One of my businesses is suffering, wrecked cars, teenage daughters (need I say more?) But I try to remind myself to look at the big picture. My children are happy (as happy as teens can be) and healthy. This is what’s important in life. The rest is just unimportant crap. The phone call from my mother this morning made me realize this.

She called to tell me my cousin was killed in a car accident last night. To be honest I’ve not seen him for years. Still, I feel the loss. Especially for his parents. I can’t begin to comprehend the deep pain the loss of a child brings. I cry tonight for them.

Yeah, so some shit in my life is going wrong. That’s okay I can handle it. The important things in my life are good. It will all be okay.

Mayo, keep in mind what’s really important in your life.

Elena

p.s. Thanks for being a part of my life. You and my blog family help me each day.

SS

Thank you for the frog story. It means so much on so many levels. Have to admit I not only stop in the middle of the road to move turtles I do the same for frogs. Only thing is the little buggers always hop off when I try to move them. True story…I actually picked one up a few years ago and was taking him out of the road when he suddenly jumped out of my hands and landed on the hood of my car. Okay so I’m just gonna scoop him off when he jumps again. This time he lands on the roof of my car. Can you guess where he went next? Yeah, right through my sunroof. Nothing like chasing a frog through your car.

Take care.

mayo,

i've been re-reading your post (as i do), and though it really does remind me of my high school days (keggin' and cruisin'!), i have to say that i'm not sure i like this one.

i like the words, of course ("pulling warm hands back" gives me all sorts of ideas), but what i'm seeing in them is uncomfortable. it's a bit too james dean. still, it's an electric piece of writing.

i've been wondering about you lately, and wondering about this place. i think i lose my sense of perspective here, and fall into blogbelieve thinking much too easily.

over the last few days i've been perusing the back posts, and it's given me a welcome overview of our storyline here. suddenly, i find myself wondering what's really going on with you, wondering how on earth we're helping you, if we are in fact helping you at all.

i know this place is transformative, i see the effects of it in all of us, but to what purpose, mayo? are we truly helping you along towards your better self? i feel like i'm being helped, by you, and by all my friends here. for me, ss's story about the geese describes this place very well. does it for you? are you in the v with us?

mayo, i'm not writing this out of worry, i'm not wringing my hands. i'm not reading "recess" and letting my imagination do the math. i'm just remembering how you wrote then, and comparing that to how you write now. i've read the posts again where you tell us how much this place means to you. and i'm just wondering:

mayo, how are you doing? how are you now?

oh yes, i'm a greedy little puppy, aren't i? presumptious, too.

so just give me a pat on the head, and i'll go lay back down.
*grin*

so, all that said, at last. and tonight i was drawing, which is still a bright new pleasure again. and so for me, bed and sleep and dreams.

and hoping that your bed and sleep and dreams were restful and restorative and nourishing.

good night, mayo.

Good afternoon FASC.
I remember that interview with Manson. I paid a visit to the Kerrang website as it was topical with one of their articles and posted some thing called Ass vs Class. Manson fans weren't that happy with me.

Amy,
I've only recently discovered DKMs. Some of their songs remind me a lot of The Pogues. (F)Lannigan's Ball and Worker's Song are good'uns. They have a heck of a back catalogue to work through.
I don't know if you saw an older comment of mine where I saw Anti-Flag on the strength of your recommendation. They were great live and went down well here.
I can't believe they're going to be the support act for Gallows in the UK. I caught Gallows in October, and while they were good, their support act is going to show them up a bit.

Kass,
Get better soon! It isn't the same around here this time of day without your witticisms.

Last night, was a very great night. You know, having lots of people, (but not all sadly) rounded up around the table, just chit-chatting about everything. It felt great. Today, I head back to school, second semester starts, then I head off to work. What a hectic day it will be! I hope that you all enjoy your Tuesdays! =] Mayonaise and SS, you guys included! I must head off to school!

Love always;

Canadian Geese

Food Habits
When on land, Branta canadensis eat a variety of grasses including Bermuda grass, salt grass and wild barley. Geese are able to grab a hold of each blade and pull it out with their bills by jerking their heads. They also eat wheat, beans, rice, and corn. In the water, the birds stick their head and upper part of their body into the water leaving their tail and back end extending in the air. They stretch their neck out, under the water, and slide their bills across the bottom silt. They also eat a number of aquatic plants such as eel grass, sea lettuce and sago. ("Canada Geese (*Branta canadensis*)", 1998; Owen, 1980; Van Wormer, 1968)

Primary Diet:
herbivore (folivore ).

Plant Foods:
leaves; roots and tubers; seeds, grains, and nuts; algae.

What kind of "Tator" are you?

Some people are very bossy and like to tell others what to do, but don't want to soil their own hands.
They are called "Dick Tators"

Some people never seem motivated to participate, but are just content to watch while others do the work.
They are called "Speck Tators".

Some people never do anything to help, but are gifted at finding fault with the way others do the work.
They are called "Comment Tators".

Some people are always looking to cause problems by asking others to agree with them. It is too hot or too cold, too sour or too sweet.
They are called "Agie Tators".

There are those who say they will help, but somehow just never get around to actually doing the promised help.
They are called "Hezzie Tators".

Some people can put up a front and pretend to be someone they are not.
They are called "Emma Tators".

Then there are those who love and do what they say they will. They are always prepared to stop whatever they are doing and lend a helping hand. They bring real sunshine into the lives of others.
They are called "Sweet Tators".

i know some people think the lyrics are a bit dull and simple. i guess they are simple but i don't know it just kind of hit home for me.

Lyrics:
"[unknown intro]
Are you thinking of him?
The world is ugly,

And you wanted me to go.
I just wanted you to know

That the world is ugly,
But you're beautiful to me.
Are you thinking of me?
Are you thinking of him?

You can say I told you so
If you wanted me to go.

I just wanted you to know
That the world is ugly,
But you're beautiful to me.

Are you thinking of me?
Are you thinking of him?

You can say I told you so
If you wanted me to go.

I just wanted you to know.

The world is ugly,
But you're beautiful to me.
Are you thinking of me?
Can we both be ugly?
And (___?)
We could fight it to the end.
I just wanna hold your hand.
And you're probably just too good.
I just wanted you to know."

those last 4 lines!!

He's always giving messages onstage to Lyn-Z. Think about it. Jimmy Urine is a huge coke head. Lyn-Z and Jimmy Urine are very VERY close. She is one too. I remember a story where they were doing a show, and one of the people who owned the club said they were all coked out, the whole entire band. They fucked in the bathroom or something like that. Now, that's the kind of people Gerard admires and is hooking up with. Of course he is doing everything she's doing.

Martha Smith-Jones said...

Hello PH

farawaysoclose said...

hi PH!!

martha in answer.

i think its inevitable that when a band produces an album that appeals to a greater spectrum then people are gonna think they've sold out!!
i don't agree actually.
i love the first two albums with a passion. i also love the black parade.
its not selling out to want to get your message heard.

well i don't think so anyway.

Martha Smith-Jones said...

FASC I don't think it's selling out either. I just notice that a lot of the younger fans think they did. So is it because they are young that they think that?

Anonymous said...

That's a loaded question.

When I think of the term "sell-out," I think of it as basically selling out your beliefs about music, the belief you have in yourself and in your band, the music you create (Is The Man going to like this? vs. Is this what I like?), giving rights to use your music for things you don't believe in just to make a quick buck. All of that stuff combined, plus more defines the term "sell-out" to me.

In the case of TBP, these kids are thinking, "Oh, MCR sold out because they're all over radio stations and they aren't scene anymore! *crys a river*"

No, they just got world-wide recognition. That's not "selling out." They toured their asses off for this album. They worked this album to death, literally. In my opinion, had they gone and gotten endorsements for alcohol, cigarettes, shitty-ass stuff, just to make some quick cash, they would have sold themselves out with the record. Had they made TBP exclusively for the big-wigs at Warner/Reprise and were trying to make something that would suit them, I think it's the same case.

But, they didn't. So, I don't see why they say that.

The message, on the other hand? It has "I SOLD OUT" all over it.

JocelynHolly said...

Hey Martha and FASC!

Martha, as one of the "younger" fans, I don't really think that they've sold out. They wrote songs that they wanted to write, they made the record sound the way they wanted it to. I love all three albums equally. Some people I know, would beg to differ. A part of the reason a lot of my friends don't like them because they think that MCR "is fake".

It's just kind of a personal opinion thing. It depends on who you talk to I guess.

Anonymous said...

Hey PH!

JocelynHolly said...

Hey Mustard!!!
:D

Martha Smith-Jones said...

Thank you MIB and PH.

I agree with what everyone so far has said. I just wanted to know if it was just me who didn't see it as selling out.

Anonymous said...

morning everyone!!

TJ I love using those types of pen , mine isn't the same brand though, and I used them a lot doing bilogical illustrations for a Botany subject - which I loved!

I miss MissT and Bikey too.

Hi MJ
I don't think they sold out at all, why must they stick to a genre or style if they want to try something different. I think the fans feeling was they'd attracted less valuable fans by being commercial, but that I don't think was their intention, It's a fabulous album but different to their other two.
I think it's brave of a band to try something like that, it equally could have flopped (not that album particularly but a different style)

Hey Ergo!

I think it's brave of a band to try something like that, it equally could have flopped (not that album particularly but a different style)

I agree with this 100%. We had not had a real throw-back to classic rock in a long time. I think kids were stuck in this rut of "emo," hardcore, pop, crazyness and it was time for something new.

It took a lot of guts to put something out there that was "mature," not to say that other records of 2006 were not, but by that I mean the sound.

I think it was a great move, and it could have easily been the biggest flop ever. I think kids and adults, alike, were yearning for something fresh and sophisticated.

MJ it's insideous! but so funny

and I think when you are in a "scene" and see yourself as living it as your life you don't see yourself as "scene" but see those trying to copy it but not as well become the "scene" people.(the ones accused of just doing it to be cool or whatever)
categorising people is stupid as it's too varied, like I can like MCR and other so called "emo" bands but I can hate some of them too,and also like pop funk or glam rock and I dress as I feel, expecting people to act or dress or appreciate only certain things is very narrow minded. (fans or bands)

But really anything is but it's not necessarily bad

Anonymous said...

ok that last sentence somehow popped out of where it should have been.

I mean anything can be a scene and if you're happy with like minded people and you aren't hurting yorself or anyone else it's fine, but you can't narrow it too much or you miss out on a lot

Hello All

I've not been around for a while but I have been reading your comments about frogs and I feel compelled to share this little story.

When I was a kid our water supply came from a well about half a mile from our house and the water came to the house via a series of pipes about an inch in diameter.

I was the plumber of the family and I was the one sent to investigate when the taps went dry.

One day, when aged 10 or so, off I went to find out why the water had stopped. There was no other way than breaking connections in the pipes to find out the fault could be. I found the length of pipe that must have been blocked. There was no other way that I knew of to rectify the problem but to suck one end of the pipe to see what would eventually come out-usually this was just an air lock.

Afer what seemed like ages I was relieved to feel the water coming through when, to my shock, I felt something in my mouth and to this day I am so happy I spat instead of..well...

Out came a small but perfectly formed frog, thankfully still alive.

Thank God for reservoirs!

Martha Smith-Jones said...

And window frames, these little brown ones get...well.. skooshed.
And they live under the rim in the toilet!! Hahaha
Little sticky feet on yur backside...or they struggle to stay up there as you flush

I love if you hold a frog and look in it's eyes and move it, it will keep your gaze as you move it's body, Just a bit of "things I do for amusement"

so anyway how are you eliza?

ps who was kermit's little frog friend?
and anyone remember a muppet special where the big person inside shaggy monster had kermit and lost him and said
"froggy frog, hop hop bye bye"

Hi, does anyone remember me?

I used to hang out here in the good old days.

Hi Mayo, long time no see.

Hi SS sweetie, I heard about you putting Dominic back on your page and that really touched me. You are a truely wonderful person.

As are all the amazing people who requested that ss put the name Dominic up. You guys are wonderful.

I want to thank all the people who also put dominic on their blogs. I have been told that some of you did. Ashamedly, I haven't been round to everyone's blogs yet as I came here first. I just wanted to thank all you fantastic people. Do you realise how amazing you all are.

I am moved to tears to know that while I haven't been around, you all still thought about me and our Dom.

I have missed you all so much you wouldn't believe, I hope the computer will co-operate now, fingers crossed.

We have been thinking about Dom a lot this week. His sister is pregnant and is having a little girl, she was thinking of giving her the middle name Dominique. She decided against this though cos if she didn't like her first name she would use her middle name and people would shorten it to Dom. This would make us all sad cos it is what we call Dominic. Every time someone spoke her name it would make us miss him and besides, she deserves to be a person in her own right and not a shadow of her dead uncle.

Instead, she has been wanting to know about girls name's in our family. We have been going through really old doccuments right back to my mum's great gran's death certificate. So we have been thinking about our family history and thus Dom.

I miss him like crazy, he had a huge smile which made him look like Greg Rudescki the tennis player.

It has made me feel so warm and loved and so appreciative of you all to know that you all took something from the fact that ss put Dominic on his blog. It makes me so proud to know that it touched you all too.

Dom would be blushing all over his face right now, then he'd make a joke but he'd be pleased as punch to be in the thoughts of so many amazing women.

Believe me, he was deserving of this attention. he was truely an angel on earth. I guess he was only loaned to us and now he has gone home.
