Today on my way home from class, I stopped off at the petrol station for some petrol. I paid on my card which wasn’t a lot, and then as I was getting into my car, I saw an old man walking past the building. He had a red and green stripy jumper which was frayed at the ends. He was also wearing some jeans that were dirty and had holes all over.
I sat there and became intrigued by him because I didn’t know what he was doing, so as I sat there and watched him, he continued doing what he set out to do.
He walked past the trash cans and first picked out a cup with some drink still in it (one of the cups that you get from burger king that has coke in it). He then walked over to the next trash can and pulled out the end of a half eaten sandwich. In my shock horror, he ate it and then went to sit on the wall to drink the drink he had found.
I felt sad, I wanted to give him my last $4 that I had but I was told when I was younger that you should never give people money, you should give them something they need or can use because that way, if they had an addiction, they would not be able to use the money for their addiction. So I went into the shop and bought a chicken sandwich from their deli counter and then walked out of the building.
The guy was still sat at the wall drinking his drink so I walked up to him and asked him if he would like this sandwich. He thanked me and said that he was hungry.
I should of felt good after that, doing something for someone else but all I could think of is where his next meal will come from or where in fact he will sleep tonight.

Don't let anyone tell you how to live your life. Hold your head up high and be proud of who you are. If you've had a shitty day and you feel like people just don't want you to be happy, and when you find yourself struggling to make it through the day, just keep on believing and keep the faith. Also, from personal experience, don't push people away. When they say they want to help and that they are there for you, let them in. Believe me, I know how fucking scary that thought is, but don't shut others out.

Sometimes, when you look back on stuff in your life, you know, the crap that makes you shake your head and say, "Holy shit, what the Hell was I thinking?" it's part of what makes you - you.
I'm not perfect by any stretch of the imagination. I have made small mistakes and really big, fucking scary mistakes. Would I change those mistakes and blunders?
No. Wanna know why?
Because they make me - me. They help make up the person that I am, what I've learned the hard way. Hopefully I've learned from my mistakes and have become a better person for it. And, hopefully I don't repeat those same mistakes. Although, sometimes I repeat variations of certain ones, but I'm working on that. :)

Electric Blue
…today I saw a ulysses butterfly it was in our yard and settled to feed on our hibiscus. They really are fantastically beautiful things, the electric blue is amazing, however as they sit with their wings closed they are rather nondescript and dull. Sometimes people are like that, from the outside they seem unappealing but within there hides an amazing beauty for those lucky enough to see it. I hope you appreciate beauty in all things, and look for it perhaps where others miss it.

LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL.
I read your post again and suddenly without warning memories of construction paper filled my head. I remembered all the lop-sided flowers my girls made when they were young. Bright blue, yellow and pink flowers that were cut out with blunt end scissors would fill the windows to decorate for Easter. An occasional bunny was attempted but those usually ended up looking like creatures from a horror movie. Flowers were so much easier. I can close my eyes and hear the paper being cut into petals. I can smell the Elmer’s glue squirted on in huge blobs to attach each misshapen petal to form the flowers. We had a huge arts and crafts box full of wonderful items just waiting for their imaginations to turn into something wonderful. In my mind I see my daughters, as they once were, small, blond little girls sitting on the floor surrounded by scraps of paper and other art supplies. They would create their masterpieces then proudly show each other. Oh and Lord the messes that would ensue if the glitter made an appearance. Now, the box is forgotten. I’m not really sure where it even is anymore. The few flowers so lovingly created that survived are faded and dusty and high on a shelf they sit. Time marches on, so many things get left behind.
Today was the first Easter I spent alone. I don’t think it really upset me until I remembered the construction paper flowers. also, the whole day started nice, because i had to open the library (not my usual task) and one of the patrons was this sweet old gentleman who smiled and said "beautiful" when he came in. well, it was a very pretty morning, so i agreed that the day was beautiful, and he stopped and smiled at me again, and said "you ladies never realize how much impact a beautiful woman has on an old fellow like me. you really brighten the day."

Hey guys
More bad news from me. I closed the store early and was just leaving when my youngest daughter called crying. She was coming home from work and was in a wreck. I kept saying are you ok and all she kept saying was my bug is crushed. She drives a 1970 VW Bug. Two trucks hit her from behind. It is so icy that they lost control and hit her. The first time the truck hit her was at an angle and she hit her head on the driver’s side window. She's got quite a bump. Anyway I drove as quickly as I could to get to her. The police were very sweet to her and kept telling her it wasn't her fault. She's just heartbroken about her car. Damn stupid weather. The worst part of the story is that right after the accident she freaked and started to get out of her car not realizing she was on a four lane road. A car passing the accident started honking at her when she opened her door and the driver flipped her off. God, people can be so evil. Anyway we're home now. Of course the other two daughters are still out there. It’s gonna be a long night.

Just stopping by again to tell Kapunua that my heart goes out to her and her dog Trisky. I know how it feels to get that news, it hurts so much and it feels like you are losing a family member (I'm sorry if I offend someone who has lost a family memeber by saying this but it does). I loved Sasha with my whole heart and I know you loved your dog just as much, Kapunua. Enjoy every moment you have with them because that is what you will cherish most. You will never forget your pet because he/she will always be in your heart, believe me.

Oh Elena. I'm so sorry about your daughter. It must have been a horrific experience being involved in an accident, and I cant imagine how she is feeling right now. My heart goes out to her, and anyone else that was hurt.
Winter time is the worst, I hate being on the roads in this weather. I really wish her the best, and that she gets a new car that she loves!

A girl rolled her car outside our place and though she was ok (and it could have been so much worse) all she kept saying was that she'd wrecked her car!
I cannot believe how bloody heartless people are though!I could never do that to a person in that situation, or almost any situation (except for truck drivers that sit up your arse when you are doing the speed limit - which on most roads here is 100km/hr - 60 m/hr,I think)
I never realised how bad icy roads can be.

after i graduated from high school i ound out one of my friends from the yearbook had a crush on me, and i hadn't had a clue. it's a weird thing to find out. flattering, but it gives an odd feeling.
jade, he was sweet -- all dressed up in a suit jacket, and super polite with everyone who helped him. definitely one of our nicer patrons!
elena, i'm glad you're daughter wasn't hurt in that car accident. vw bugs don't usually fair well with trucks, in my experience. my dad squished one when he was a trucker. i'm sending out postive vibes for your other two to get home safe & sound.

Elena, my god, that sucks! It's like you had a bad feeling about it last night; almost as if you felt it coming. I'm just so glad that your daughter is okay.
Get someone to check her out anyway, especially a chiropractor. Whiplash can come on even a few days after getting rear-ended. And that can ache or a while.
It really does suck about her car. Your poor daughter and her poor car. :( I know how I'd feel if my beloved car got wrecked, too. That blows.
Thanks to all of you. I think the saddest thing was she and I watched the tow truck take her crushed bug away and she was crying.

Elena, wow, you and your family are having some shitty luck with the ice. Has your daughter been checked out by a dr? Blows to the head can result in some nasty things. Check her pupils and see, number one, if they're the same size, and number two, if they dilate and constrict in reaction to light (use a flashlight for that, and do them one at a time). If those two things are ok, she's probably ok too. If she feels nauseous or dizzy, take her to the ER. Ok?

TJ, it's not too bad b/c my mom is 82 and doesn't get out too much. She's deterred from visiting us due to the stairs (we live on the ground floor and she'd have to go down two short flights of stairs). She had a stroke 6 years ago, and walks with a cane outside, plus she has severe arthritis. Truly, she does the same amount of psychological damage over the phone that she could do in person!
Avenger--every time I say your new name, I think of the superhero team The Avengers. Y'know, Iron Man, Captain America, etc. :)
