For the protagonist and the cup of coffee we share...

A favorite...oh how I do love fire.

I Pity the Wind
Gerald Stern

I am taking off my glasses
so I can stare at the little candles
and the glass of water
in pure darkness.

I am letting a broom stand
for my speech on justice
and an old thin handkerchief
for the veil of melodrama I have worn for thirty years.

I am dragging in Euripides
for his strange prayer
and my own true Hosea
for his poem on love and loyalty.

After a minute I fall down dead
from too much thought
and turn to the freezing wall
for an hour of quiet sadness.

I start my practice later,
twenty minutes for breathing,
twenty minutes for song,
twenty minutes for liberation and ritual.

My poem is about the airshaft
and Zoroaster
and the soul caught in its last struggle
with the two-headed cow, father of everything.

My elation has something to do with light,
my misery with darkness,
my secrecy and fear and distance
with neither.

I end up with a pillow
and a painted floor, as I always do,
my head on the flowers, a little pocket for air,
my right arm drifting and dangling.

I end up just humming,
true to myself at last,
preparing myself for the bridge
and the hand that will lead me over, the hand I adore.

I pity this hero,
so in love with fire,
so warlike,
so bent on teaching.

p.s. I couldn't resist you and your agile fingers as they swept over my heart filling it with glory. To follow the mass, my own words prey.

Good night RW.

I don't think it's too recent, but I don't want to mention the exact date because like I said, I don't want this pal of mine to be out in the line of fire. Apparently she was kind of a big name at this event.

Either way, I believe that story abotu Jimmy Urine buying coke next to Gerard's mom over the summer. :/ The guy is trouble in the worst way. I hate him.

G-Way, godamnit, take care of your stupid self, will you? I just want to bounce my fist off your numb skull sometimes. >_> Take care of your stupid self and then go back to being your smart, humble, sincere, honest and good-hearted self. He's gotta be around there somewhere, right?

Yeah, well Gerard's mom should have kicked his ass if she needed to do it to prevent him from marrying her...What the hell was he thinking?!!!!

i can totally understand why you don't want to say the date -- that's cool. thanks for the info.

i'd hope things have changed, but...

This place makes me feel, quite honestly, like I matter. I've never been a part of anything like this before and the bonds that we've developed will be unbreakable.

I enjoy waking up everyday and coming on here to see what's being discussed, to see how everyone's doing. I enjoy offering my support and help to those of you who need it. I am very appreciative of all of you that have done the same for me.

Being here has made me feel safe. It's made me feel a little more comfortable with who I am. With every new post, I'm discovering more and more things about myself and about you all as well. You all, knowingly or not, have made this bearable.

We all have our own problems to deal with, and I understand that, but sometimes all it takes is that one smile to make everything feel like it's going to be okay. That's what I've learned by being here, and that's why I desperately try to show you all I am thinking about you. If I miss people, it's only because of this crappy dial-up (You feeling me Sdock?).

All of you, every single last one of you, hold a tiny place in my heart and mind. I think about you guys everyday and hope in my mind you're all doing well. I don't think words will ever be able to express the gratitude I have for you and your words.

Mayo:
It will be okay. Everything that's wrong will be sorted out in time. You allowing this to continue means the world to me. I don't take it for granted, because I know you could up and decide to pull the rug out from under us. But I know you better than that Mayo. You wouldn't do that, would you? If you're contemplating it, don't. I bid you a goodnight and I hope the new day brings you delight.

With all that said, I'm hitting the sack. Thanks for such a great day you guys. I hate that the sun has to set on it. But, good things can't last forever.

Love to you all.

I've been peeking into a couple of MCR forums I belong to but haven't visited much lately, and the kids there are starting to idolize MSI based on their association with MCR. I think that makes me sick to my stomach even more than the whole Sharpie writing thing.

Okay, am heading to bed for real now, just had to put my two cents-worth in about this.

Well that's my other huge issue. Gerard knows that these fansheep are going to like whatever band he tells them to; he's counting on it. And with knowing what MSI's message is, it just makes my blood boil.

The whole thing is such a dismal mess.

You know what I keep thinking about? How the whole deal went down to have MSI open for MCR. I originally thought both bands were on Reprise, but I now know they are not. Obviously it's the Gerard Lyn Z connection, but I cannot imagine that the whole band was in favor of this.

Anonymous said...

Take care of your stupid self and then go back to being your smart, humble, sincere, honest and good-hearted self. He's gotta be around there somewhere, right?

He most definitely is. There are very few things on this planet that I know by sense alone (mostly good cookies and when it's time to clean the litterbox), but this is... just one of those things.

Well, that sounded frigging ridiculous. How is everyone tonight? How's Mayo-yo doing? Nice of you to join into our little poetry slam. I noticed this poem had quite a few elements of our conversation last night.

One thing I am so relieved about is that me and my friend didn't see MSI at PR, otherwise we would have been flipping the bird during their performance.

the funny thing about prorev is that i did see msi there, and totally enjoyed their show. it was the highlight of the second stage bands for me (apologies to the bled, who were awesome).

mind, this was the first prorev concert -- none of the drama had gone down yet, msi was just another band on the line-up. i thought they had lots of energy, were fun and sarcastic, got my picture taken with steve righ? -- the whole shebang.

came home, checked out their cd from my library, and you know what? didn't like it. it was too rough, it was too angry, it wasn't fun like the live show.

so, upshot -- not a fan of the band, but i can see how someone could be. and i'm glad i was able to see them before all the lovebird stuff could raise the question of my opinion being tainted.

but these younger kids -- who maybe don't have the self-awareness of that possibility?

Funny, I was thinking the same thing last night. And though I've certainly never been an Eliza fan, I actually find myself feeling a bit sorry for her lately, especially with all the Sharpie messages & PDA going on. I can't help but think that's a deliberate slap in the face to her from Gerard. I don't know what happened between them that caused their break-up, but no one deserves this kind of public humiliation.

I also can't help thinking how awkward this must be for Alicia & Mikey, being Eliza's friends.

That's NOTHING compared to Miss Lyn-Z, her band, their lyrics, their drug use, and...well I can't say mediocrity as they are so far BELOW that term....

All I can say about the Gerard/LynZ thing is: if it wasn't her, it would have been somebody else. The man is just incapable of coping on his own.

Hi Kapunua, and thanks for the info.

I think the majority of us KNEW that MSI were a train wreck even before the marriage. Since the first time I saw her & her shitty-ass band, I've kept my own counsel as to what I think of her - I'm not into overtly slamming people I don't know. However, that being said, one of the things I actually *like* about myself is my ability to judge character. (And Kapunua, you'll know exactly what I mean, because your senses are highly tuned-in, as well.) I'm usually right on the money, too.

She is what she is. But it's ot good to automatically assume that she'll get him right back into 'the shit'. I've been seeing life as it occurs backstage for a lot of years, and just because all vices are available doesn't necessarily mean that our dear Mayo will partake on a regular basis.

Yes, I know -- I've been pretty mouthy to the guy. and I'll most likely continue to be mouthy where G-Way is concerned. But don't forget that he's done all this before, and he KNOWS what can happen. If you've never been a heavy drinker, or into the whole drug thing, you're much more willing to get into whatever's being offered to you. I'm not saying that he doesn't partake of the 'party favors' occasionally, and I'm not saying that he isn't. But I do know all too well what life on tour is like, and it's a lot more boring than so-called 'insiders' would have you believe.

If she has any kind of hold on him, I doubt it's through substances. It's more likely through sex -- I don't know a whole lot about the girls he's been with before, but I'm pretty sure that Lyn-Z is his first "bad girl". So personally, I'm more worried that she'll cut off his dick in the middle of the night than I am about the booze & dope factor. As long as she's got him by the gonads, I don't see a whole lotta change on the horizon.

There you have it, my $0.02.
I have change, if you want your money back!

Off to take a shower, my one accomplishment for the day. ^_~
Back in a bit!

It's probably just gas. Hot people get gas all the time.
On top of that, he's probably as nervous as all hell talking to you because he knows he likes you. And even if he knows you like him it doesn't mean that he's going to stop trying to wow you. Kapu, you are just so crazy. I totally don't get the self esteem issues. You are so intelligent, and you are pretty too, and I really mean that. Oh, and on a totally different note, I remember you saying you went to Lutheran school. Were you a believer at the time? I mean, the school my youngest goes to is somewhat liberal in that they don't wear the uniforms and such, but I still dread the day she decides in her little brainwashed robotic voice to tell her older sister that she's going to hell for being gay.

Anonymous said...

Hey Mayo, what do you think of Robert Browning's "My Last Duchess," sweetheart?

She thanked men,--good! but thanked
Somehow--I know not how--as if she ranked
My gift of a nine-hundred-years-old name
With anybody's gift. Who'd stoop to blame
This sort of trifling? Even had you skill
In speech--(which I have not)--to make your will
Quite clear to such an one, and say, "Just this
Or that in you disgusts me; here you miss,
Or there exceed the mark"--and if she let
Herself be lessoned so, nor plainly set
Her wits to yours, forsooth, and made excuse,
--E'en then would be some stooping; and I choose
Never to stoop. Oh sir, she smiled, no doubt,
Whene'er I passed her; but who passed without
Much the same smile? This grew; I gave commands;
Then all smiles stopped together. There she stands
As if alive....

How about a little Oscar Wilde, bb?

...

Like wire-pulled automatons,
Slim silhouetted skeletons
Went sidling through the slow quadrille,

Then took each other by the hand,
And danced a stately saraband;
Their laughter echoed thin and shrill.

Sometimes a clockwork puppet pressed
A phantom lover to her breast,
Sometimes they seemed to try to sing.

Sometimes a horrible marionette
Came out, and smoked its cigarette
Upon the steps like a live thing.

Then, turning to my love, I said,
'The dead are dancing with the dead,
The dust is whirling with the dust.'

But she--she heard the violin,
And left my side, and entered in:
Love passed into the house of lust.

Then suddenly the tune went false,
The dancers wearied of the waltz,
The shadows ceased to wheel and whirl.

And down the long and silent street,
The dawn, with silver-sandalled feet,
Crept like a frightened girl.

Once again, brutal honesty, I went to catholic school all my life, and we never, EVER discussed homosexuality as being a sin against God. This is probably why I think Fundies are a sin against humanity. I can't believe that there are organized religions out there that seem to be fine with preaching nothing but utter hate, even though they claim to be all about love.

And time future contained in time past.
If all time is eternally present
All time is unredeemable.
What might have been is an abstraction
Remaining a perpetual possibility
Only in a world of speculation."

My daughter actually went through the Lutheran catechism classes, and that's what turned her off. I guess at that point she already knew she was gay, so the whole homosexual lecture was a big 'ole slap in the face. And also, I am somewhat Wiccan but non-practicing for the most part because I don't want to upset the apple cart. So that whole part of the class was a big turn off too. In the end, she decided to not be confirmed, which was a big hairy deal amongst the family, but I totally respected her for it.

I said, "Go, and be happy
but remember (you know
well) whom you leave shackled by love

"If you forget me, think
of our gifts to Aphrodite
and all the loveliness that we shared

"all the violet tiaras,
braided rosebuds, dill and
crocus twined around your young neck

"myrrh poured on your head
and on soft mats girls with
all that they most wished for beside them

"while no voices chanted
choruses without ours,
no woodlot bloomed in spring without song..."

Here's one more for you, Mayo. And it's important, so listen up.

Should lanterns shine, the holy face,
Caught in an octagon of unaccustomed light,
Would wither up, an any boy of love
Look twice before he fell from grace.
The features in their private dark
Are formed of flesh, but let the false day come
And from her lips the faded pigments fall,
The mummy cloths expose an ancient breast.

I have been told to reason by the heart,
But heart, like head, leads helplessly;
I have been told to reason by the pulse,
And, when it quickens, alter the actions' pace
Till field and roof lie level and the same
So fast I move defying time,
the quiet gentleman
Whose beard wags in Egyptian wind.

I have heard many years of telling,
And many years should see some change.

The ball I threw while playing in the park
Has not yet reached the ground.

Before I go to sleep, I wanted to post this pretty poem by Robert Frost. I hope you guys may like it.

Bond and Free
by Robert Frost

Love has earth to which she clings
With hills and circling arms about—
Wall within wall to shut fear out.
But Thought has need of no such things,
For Thought has a pair of dauntless wings.

On snow and sand and turf, I see
Where Love has left a printed trace
With straining in the world’s embrace.
And such is Love and glad to be.
But Thought has shaken his ankles free.

Thought cleaves the interstellar gloom
And sits in Sirius’ disc all night,
Till day makes him retrace his flight,
With smell of burning on every plume,
Back past the sun to an earthly room.

His gains in heaven are what they are.
Yet some say Love by being thrall
And simply staying possesses all
In several beauty that Thought fares far
To find fused in another star.

Take care and good night/afternoon Ergo. Anyone else who is still lurking, I bid you good night. Good night Mayonaise.

XOXO,
BC

And I had such a lovely poem for you all. It does seem to be poetry day again - thanks to Mayo.

Here is my contribution. T'is one of my favorites:
The Invitation

It doesn't interest me what you do for a living. I want to know what you ache for, and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart's longing.

It doesn't interest me how old you are. I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool for love, for your dream, for the adventure of being alive.

It doesn't interest me what planets are squaring your moon. I want to know if you have touched the center of your own sorrow, if you have been opened by life's betrayals or have become shriveled and closed from fear of further pain!I want to know if you can sit with pain, mine or your own, without moving to hide it or fade it, or fix it.

I want to know if you can be with joy, mine or your own, if you can dance with wildness and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes without cautioning us to be careful, to be realistic, to remember the limitations of being human.

It doesn't interest me if the story you are telling me is true. I want to know if you can disappoint another to be true to yourself; if you can bear the accusation of betrayal and not betray your own soul; if you can be faithlessand therefore trustworthy.

I want to know if you can see beauty even when it's not pretty, every day,and if you can source your own life from its presence.
The Invitation by Oriah Mountain Dreamer, book cover

I want to know if you can live with failure, yours and mine, and still stand on the edge of the lake and shout to the silver of the full moon, “Yes!”

It doesn't interest me to know where you live or how much money you have. I want to know if you can get up, after the night of grief and despair, weary and bruised to the bone, and do what needs to be done to feed the children.

It doesn't interest me who you know or how you came to be here. I want to know if you will stand in the center of the fire with me and not shrink back.

It doesn't interest me where or what or with whom you have studied. I want to know what sustains you, from the inside, when all else falls away.

I want to know if you can be alone with yourself and if you truly like the company you keep in the empty moments.

by
Oriah Mountain Dreamer

Makes ya think, don't it?

Have a terrific day everyone. Hugs for all!!!

HOLY FUCK!
I'm gone for less than a day, new post, and over a thousand comments?

Mayo, this poem seems a little revealing about your identity. Was that your intention? Now, I haven't read any comments, so I don't know what went on. I really enjoyed your poem though, what a wonderful choice! I love fire as well, which is probably why I always get stupid burns. If you get to close and cozy with fire, you'll end up getting hurt.
