Best Friend

The brick and mortar embellishment
conceals despair.
I buried it in the backyard,
along with that old rag of a dog,
that I loved and held to my heart.
Passed on and by too fast for
my eyes and hands to grab tight.
And I wonder now, if I had held
just a bit tighter, would I have
a handful of fur rather than dirt
and hurt?

p.s. been body snatching...Mayo is Keyser Söze.

You know, I thought of the funniest thing when that anon was saying i was Mayo, but then I forgot to write it! I was going to say, "It's like Anon is Gabriel Byrne, this blog is the audience, and Mayo is Kevin Spacey and we're ten minutes away from the best ending ever of the best movie ever!"

But it's not nearly as funny now.

And if you know what I'm talking about, SHHHHH! Because we do not discuss that movie!

Here, okay? I started it. I said it. And I thought I was being coy while also NOT trying to give away the ending. It was just a joke.

I don't care who Mayo is or who you think he is. That movie is gorgeous and should never be spoiled over something as trivial as who is writing poetry to you. Grrr.

I think this whole thing has been blown out of proportion. We were talking the other day, and Kapunua said she was somebody mysterious (sorry, Jules, I don't remember who.) Sdock10 said she was Amelia Earhardt, and I asked to be Elizabeth Bathory. Mayo Mayo just picked Keyser Soze for his chameleon-like qualities.

Either way, Mayo is never going to reveal his identity to us. I knew that when I called him out -- I just felt like doing it, anyway. I was more concerned with his intentions. The blog is still here, we're still allowed to play here, and that's good enough for me.

Can we interpret orange as a metaphor for being unable, worthless, and irresponsible.

An orange card warns the person to beware: beware of one’s own feelings, of relationships, of life. Orange cards are so painful that individuals will do almost anything to escape the hurt. A major power of drugs and alcohol is that they turn orange to blue, but the effect is illusionary. They only camouflage the pain.

(Me thinking out loud)

Hi MJ :) How's things?

Just wanted to jump into the Anne Rice conversation (maybe a dangerous thing as I have no idea how it started or really where it's progressing). I used to be a big fan. I still count Cry to Heaven as one of the best historical fiction novels I have ever read. However, I haven't touched an Anne Rice novel since The Vampire Armand in '98, and wished I had stopped at Memnoch the dEvil a few years earlier.

Carrie said...

I really used to love Anne Rice, like, up until The Body Thief, but even then, starting to grate on my nerves. I guess the only one I totally totally enjoyed was the first one--I read that in 1980 when I was just 13, so at the time I thought it was like the greatest book ever written. :)

Amyranth said...

Didn't she have some sort of "wedding" where she "married" Lestat? Oh my god. She's so sad and pathetic, yet she's so arrogant that I have no pity for her at all.

Oh, Cry to Heaven!! I forgot about that, it was really good! I did read her son's novels too. They were a bit derivative, but I did enjoy them. It doesn't take much to entertain me sometimes.

Amy, I also tried getting into her other novels but I couldn't. Sometimes I would figure they'd be meaningless and quite boring if I did, so the Blackwood farm novel was the only one I that read.

Apparently, Anne Rice writes exclusively about Jesus now. Her website looks like it could be the Vatican's.

A far cry from how she used to feel. She was raised Catholic, but lost her faith when her five year old daughter died.

I used to love Anne Rice but who books just started going down hill. I always love Louis but she dumped him for Lestat and than had tom Curse play him.

I good RW I'm glad you are back.

Yeah, I like Anne Rice. But I like reading dreck too.

Anonymous said...

I know, RW! She had a re-conversion experience, and went back to her roots. That is supposedly why she moved out of New Orleans too.

Anonymous said...

Then there was this other thing where some building in New Orleans was getting torn down or something, and she showed up to protest it because that was where she had often pictured Lestat while writing him.

She has also banned fanfiction about her characters because she feels they are "too real."

Which is ridiculous, if my books ever got published, I would love fanfiction on them, how cool would that be?! (Which is not to say I feel the same way about real person fanfiction, because I hate that. Characters do not = real people. Unless, of course, you are Anne Rice.)

My trip was most excellent!! It's always a bit depressing returning home after a great vacation somewhere exciting, but I admit I'll be happy to crash in my own
bed.

Sorry to hear about your flu. Hopefully it'll be gone soon. I had a migraine on Friday, had to miss a Haunted London walking tour as a result. Luckily the migraine didn't come a day earlier, the day of the MCR show, or it would have seriously affected my enjoyment of it, I'm sure.

I'm just noticing how many spiders moved into my place & have set up house while I've been gone. Some evicting will be in order tomorrow, methinks.

FW was all over her when this all went down. It was a HUGE wankfest. ^_^ It was beautiful.

Oh, I recall the "Anne Rice channels Christ The Lord!" wank. It was stunning, simply stunning.

I always said that if I was trapped with zombies I would want to be trapped with Ann colture That way I could throw her to the zombies and save myself.

Wow, she's a Christian now...

I guess, her style of writing, is now a thing of the past.

Hey RW, just wanted to welcome you back, I missed you!

I know, RW! She had a re-conversion experience, and went back to her roots. That is supposedly why she moved out of New Orleans too.

I heard she left New Orleans after her husband died in order to be closer to her son, who loves in San Francisco.

Aww, don't kill them though, RW! Spiders are awesome, beautiful and beneficial! Me, I let them live in my house. They keep the other bugs at bay.

^Er... *lives* in San Francisco...

Ann Coulter is one of the few human beings I have ever actually screamed at on the tv. I think she may be the modern embodiment of "ye shall not suffer a witch to live.." I'm thinking I wouldn't even piss on her if she were on fire, and it makes me disappointed in myself to say that.

Anonymous said...

Yes, Anon, she was a lapsed Roman Catholic and now, back in the fold, she refuses to acknowledge Lestat and the whole gang.
I thought she was wacky after she said Lestat "left" her after the last book she wrote about him. She said he was just gone.

It sounds like you had a great time RW, but of course, anyone who went to see MCR would have a great experience. And thanks.
As for spiders, I live right by an area where alot of animals roam about. I get spiders crawling in my house unfortunately, although I don't see them that much, but I did have alot of ladybugs crawling outside my front door.

I have to admit I am not a spider fan. Though these ones are fairly small and innocuous.

Spiders are awesome, my kids are always freaked out when I pick up the nastay, hairay ones and gently put them in a bug infested bush outside.

HM Star,

I can think of a couple things. At least one of them is fun-sized. :D

K,

Well, see what happens when that nasty depression goes untreated? You start MARRYING PEOPLE THAT AREN'T REAL. ;D

Emily,

Best vampire movie?

The Lost Boys. Yeah.

J

Carrie said...

Yeah, mj, I kinda thought that was the point too. She used the vampire novels to get over her daughter, but with her husband, there wasn't much left but the crazy.

Martha Smith-Jones said...

I'm sorry Carrie I didn't say Hi to Hello How are you Carrie. Don't feel bad about how you feel about Ann colture. She is a low life.

Anonymous said...

Kapunua, my dad always said the same thing about spiders, so I just let them go.
I like them.

Carrie said...

Best Vampire movie?---ok, still partial to...wait for it... Love at First Bite. Only because I went to it with my Mom, and it was one the first times I felt like she was actually "hanging out" with me and digging me as a person.

Martha Smith-Jones said...

I loved the Lost Boys. Such a good movie.

Also, they're adorable, fuzzy, and mostly harmless. I love the little dudes.

And Love At First Bite was hilarious to me as a child. I still remember that movie.

Lost Boys is definitely my second favorite vampire movie. The original Dracula is still my favorite though.

And on that note, I am off to bed! Goodnight, all!

Emily, I love Underworld :)

Carrie said...

Hey MJ! You always remind me to rearrange the Dr. Who discs on my Netflix queue. I think we're currently waiting for the Christmas special one after Rose's departure, which should hopefully explain how he hooks up with you. :)

I've felt scared for the dude since like August. O_O And I still am. What brought on this comment though?

G'night Kapunua :)

How come martha? Sweet dreams K.
Alas, Lost Boys is a great movie as well. A movie can still be scary even when a little comedy is added. Bram Stoker's Dracula is pretty good.

I've been scared for him for a while now.

Goodnight Kapunua!

Mistress J,

I totally agree!

Remember the PR blood incident this summer? What happened there? I never remember getting the whole story.

Love at First Bite... I remember that movie.

Does anyone here remember (now its a corny film but I still love it) The Midnight Hour...

It was a vampire, werewolf, zombie movie all wrapped into one...

A Rose for Emily...

All the talk of crazy Anne Rice and untreated mental health issue. What he has done is since Aug is scare but nothing Britney hasn't done. God only knows what will be next.

I have a fear that one day we will hear that Gerard has becoming a born-again Christian or something.

Btw, did GS tell you all that we found a restaurant in London called Chez Gerard & took photos of each other posing beside the sign?

Actually, there was "Gerard" stuff all over London. Weird. That boy is everywhere.

Carrie said...

I don't know, actually, after PR was over, he seems to have settled down a bit. But this is from a person who hasn't EVER seen them live. I was really happy to see the Sharpies go away. I don't know, it's really hard for me to judge someone else's state of mind. I mean, for the most part, he's still doing his job, right? And in the last couple of concerts, it sounds like he's sung really well. That's when I was freaking out--when his singing sounded like total shit.
