Voracious

There was never more time
than when I was 23,
bold, brash and free.
I called out to any, to all…
you will never make me fall
as I pushed back

up from the pavement.

It is faster now, time.
Being no longer 23,
with a near carbon-copy me
I chase after and hold
for a moment, to keep
her from falling.
She will, I know.
Just as she tumbles head over heels in the grass, a summersault.
She will tumble a life.
Over and over, the days
I can salve and bandage her knee,
treat the sting of a bee,
turn her ear to my voice
singing on or off key.
She will stop crying,
only momentarily

before she will be
pushing off of 23.

Hello MissT!

That trip soudns wonderful, Australia has a lot of historical sites, both colonial and aboriginal but I'd love to be able to see the really ancient sites the British Isles and Europe have,the castles, the Vikings and the ancient Roman & Greek ruins. I watch Time Team sometimes, though that one guy with the accent like a farmer is soooo irritating sometimes! But the things they find, when they don't say after half and hour "well unfortunately we could only did one trench and we have found nothing" are amazing. Saw one with a buried Roman ship in a field the other day.

We are set for Christmas, I think, tree and decorations are all up, haven't decided my Christmas day menu yet, too many yummy choices but it ill likely involve prawns, got a great marinade to use on the BBQ.

Hope you're preps are going well and you have a good weekend too

Sharktopus is BRILLIANT!!!! Nothing like a genetic experiment you think is under control that escapes it's megalomaniac creator and kills almost everybody in the movie and it even has it's own song, by the Cheetah Whores

There’s a creep show creature with a double feature....
A freakish beast wants flesh to feast....
A twisted fish eats surfers as a side dish....
When you see the frenzied feeding you will be the next bleeding....
Sharktopus won’t be kept at bay....
And you can never ever ever get away....
So swim on over don’t ya scream and shout....
He’ll getcha baby without a doubt....
Come on....
There’s a red sky this morning so sailors take warning....
Ride the wave of terror if you dare....
Fear runs deep when theres souls to reap....
When the tentacles do tangle you will be in a strangle....
Sharktopus won’t be kept at bay....
And you can never ever ever get away....
(2 times) So swim on over don’t ya scream and shout....
He’ll getcha baby without a doubt....
Come on....
There’s an evil down beneath with razor sharp teeth....
In the water lightly tread or you will be dead....
Fear runs deep when theres souls to reap....
There is a calamity comin’ and from the beach you will be running ....
Sharktopus won’t be kept at bay....
And you can never ever ever get away....
(3 times) So swim on over don’t ya scream and shout....
He’ll getcha baby without a doubt....
Come on Come on Come on....

That is beautiful. I don't think I've ever heard a Just Breathe song that I didn't think was beautiful. That word breathe says so much. Those two words together say so much more. Don't give up, stay here, don't quit, hang on , you can make it, we can make it, i believe in you. Just Breathe. Two words that say so much.

This one happens to be my favorite.

First thing I remember was lying in the sand
When a plague of seven horsemen
Came across the desert land
They had one good eye between them
They were burning up the sky
When I asked why they had come for me
The ugly one replied
He told me

Ah, you better recognize
Aw, you better recognize, son

Next thing I recall well
I was hanging from a cliff
When an angel came to rescue
Me and held me in her grip
She said, "Everyone who's ever loved you
Gets hurt in the end."
Then she smiled and said, "Forgive me."
As she let go of my hand
She told me

(You been living out of pocket, out of your socket)
Ah, you better recognize.
(You been leaning like a Pisa, a moaning Lisa)
Ah, you better recognize, son
(Hip hip for all the busted, we are entrusted)
Ah, you better recognize.
(You come a pleading, but it's too late
We can't hear you're on the list now!)
And let your dim light shine.

*NOTE: 8:02's (beautiful) link lead to Taylor Swift and Taylor Swift is a big fan of Better Than Ezra (and covers their songs, often) so... yeah, ya'll see how I got to singing some BTE this morning, right?!

:P

For other, other anons: I think Trent Reznor is God?! Really??? Since when?

I mean, I can understand being accused of thinking Gene Simmons is the God (of Thunder ~ and Rock N Roll) or maybe bowing down to His Infernal Majesty (HIM); but, since when do I think Trent Reznor is God. (Though, I must admit, musically speaking he is an absolute genius!!!!!) But, GOD? No. Especially considering how he seems determined to "Destroy All Angels". What kind of God would EVER want to Destroy All Angels? (Okay, I know. A vengeful, vindictive one. Once again proving Trent Reznor is no God. For he is not vindictive. Vengeful... maybe. Vindictive... no. Or vice versa!)

;P

One thing is for sure: He is one talented man!!!!

Having said that, I can't wait to see "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo"!!!! The trailers look (and sound) so dang good!

And, HELLO to Mayo, Elena, MissT, Ergo, those decking their halls with boughs of holly (or other things) and those not... HELLO and HAPPY HOLIDAYS to everyone!!!!

Hugs and Love,

Here you are now
Fresh from your war
Back from the edge of time
And all that you were,
Stripped to the bone
I thought youd want to know

That when you feel the world is crashing
All around your feet
Come running headlong into my arms
Breathless
I'll never judge you
I can only love you
Come now running headlong
Into my arms
Breathless

Lay down your guns
Too weak to run
Nothing can harm you here
Your precious heart
Broken and scarred
Somehow you made it through
I only ask that you won't go again

When you feel the world is crashing
All around your feet
Come running headlong into my arms
Breathless
I'll never judge you
I can only love you
Come now running headlong
Into my arms
Breathless

So glad to see you smiling
So good to hear your laugh
I think that you've found you even
Missed yourself
I'm only asking this because I think that
Truth be told
Oh, you'll never go again
Again

When you feel the world is crashing
All around your feet
Come running headlong into my arms
Breathless
I'll never judge you
I can only love you
Come now running headlong
Into my arms
Breathless
Breathless

There's a lot of speculation that Bruce Wayne could die in TDKR. At the very least, most fans think Bane will break his spine and put him in a wheelchair. Some have suggested that maybe policeman John Blake will take over as Batman. Who knows? With this being both Nolan's and Bale's last Batman film, you have to figure Nolan has something big in mind.

... and animated, fictional or fantasy characters. You can't really turn a puppet into a real boy or a real boy or a prince into the beast of your dreams.

Walt Disney and the Grimm bros could do that. We mere mortals cannot. Why would we want to do that when reality can be so much better than fantasy if we only take the time recognize, accept and touch it?

What is Success?

To laugh often and much;

To win the respect of intelligent people
and the affection of children;

To earn the appreciation of honest critics
and endure the betrayal of false friends;

To appreciate beauty;
To find the best in others;

To leave the world a bit better, whether by
a healthy child, a garden patch
or a redeemed social condition;

To know even one life has breathed
easier because you have lived;

This is to have succeeded.

But, we also dragged in a number of fish so they are on the BBQ right now.

Another Christmas Eve has come and gone in the land of blog believe. Another Christmas Day has dawned ; and soon a whole new year will be born...

It's hard to believe that this is our 4th Christmas together. So many things have happened in those four years. To all of us. Good things, bad things and every thing in between. Some of us have fallen in love and out love and in love again. Some have graduated from high school and those teenage years and grown into adulthood. Some have gotten married (Hi Cupcake!!!). And, here we (well, some of us) are. Still gathered around Mayo's Christmas tree for some strange reason.

I don't think it's because we long for any ghosts of Christmas' past. I think it's because we appreciate the present. The presents of this Christmas... of now.

2011 was a fantastic year for me. I hope it was equally fantastic for all of you and I hope 2012 is even better!

That is my Christmas wish, this Christmas morning, for all of my friends here!

Merry Christmas, Mayo!!!!! Merry Christmas, everyone!!!!!

Hello, Wendy. =)

4:47am 23 Dec,
Thanks for your concern. Ergo was spot on. I'm up north. =)
My stepsister, who lives down there, has now had an absolute gutsful and is ready to shift away from Christchurch. So far at least 5% of the rest of the population has already done so, so she isn't the first and unfortunately won't be the last.
It was such a lovely city, too.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend. =)

Possum glad to see you stop in. I know NZ is a big place but to be honest I always think of you when I hear anything about the country. So sad about Christchurch. I have seen photos and it is a beautiful place. Let's all hope there will be no more destruction.

Wendy good to see you here this morning too. Sounds like you're having a wonderful Christmas.

Our Christmas Eve dinner was a huge success. Mr E's lasagna was yummy as was the stuffed mushrooms, garlic bread sticks,and pastries he filled with custard and fresh blueberries. But the best part was the sisters didn't argue with each other, not once. Wow, could this be a turning point? I mean the girls always find something to ague about when they are in the same room but last night it didn't happen. There was just lots of laughter as they reminisced about grow up and Christmases past. When most had left Sunshine and her fella even stayed after Mr E went to work and watched a movie with me. I was a pretty happy gal last night. Now off to mom's for dinner.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Hiya PP, hope you had a lovely Christmas Day, glad to hear you're ok and your step-sis is as well, I don't blame her being fed up, it wasn't a great place to build a city but it's so sad that so many buildings are now being demolished and people are leaving. But there is a point when you just can't live with the worry. The town of Grantham that was swept away basically in the floods is being moved to higher ground, the govt. is buying people's land and giving them new sites, but some people are staying and rebuilding. It really was a freak event, but the memory is too much and some are moving away totally. I imagine a lot of Christchurch residents are feeling the same, the stress of expecting it again isn't something you'd want to live with every day.

Merry Christmas Elena! Your dinner sounds delicious and happy, hope lunch today is the same. We had a BBQ of proscuitto wrapped chicken, greek lamb cutlets and lemon/lime prawns on skewers with a big salad and fruit punch with or without champagne. It was a hot day but quite comfortable and we ate out on our new veranda.Dinner was an antipasto platter we just picked from as we sat around the table in the cool of the night.
Boxing Day now and we're cleaning up and DH is finishing painting the ceiling.

Merry Christmas Wendy,Carrie, Welshie and everyone else.

Hey Ergo

Your dinner sounds like it was quite yummy too. Dinner at mom' s was great. It was sorta a repeat of last night with the same people with one addition, Glock's daughter Bug. She is so cute and so much fun. I'd almost forgotten how great 2 year olds can be. She and I spent lots of time playing. LOL

Now I'm home relaxing on the sofa in my new sock monkey PJ's watching A Christmas Story while drinking a hot buttered rum. Life is good.

Hope everyone here had a great day too.

To the point of whose embarrassment, 2:56? Sounds like it might be yours. If your friend is still talking to this man, and he's not objecting, then it's obvious they're alright with it.

If you "turn a blind eye" to their activities, it doesn't mean you condone it. It means you're minding your own business, it means you're letting her live her life as she wishes, it means you're not trying to impose your beliefs on her. Simply because she's acting in a way you don't approve of doesn't mean you have the right to tell her she's wrong.

If you still feel you must interfere in her life, then talk with her in private, either over the phone or on an email.

Look at it this way: does this affect YOU in any way? If so, talk to her. If not, leave it.

Hell f*ckin' yeah!!!!!!!!!! WHO DAT?!!!!!! DAT Drew Brees, new record holder for passing yards in one season (breaking the 27 year old NFL record) set by Dan Marino), DAT WHO!!!!!

Dat IS the 2011 NFC SOUTH CHAMPIONS, The New Orleans SAINTS!!!!!!! DAT is Sean Payton, G. Williams, J. Vilma, Lance Moore, J. Graham, D. Sprouls, T. Morstead, J. Casey, Ellis and Dunbar and the spirits McAllister and of Gleason who was there on the sideline tonight! Dat is the spirit of the Who Dat nation!

And, what a perfect ambassador of the Who Dat nation Drew Brees is. So humble. So grateful. Never, ever forgetting to thank those who helped him break that record. Always thanking them and giving credit to THEM more than he takes credit for himself.

That humility. That willingness to share the credit and to accept full blame is what makes Drew Brees an exceptional man/human being.

His waking up an hour earlier than everyone else and working and practicing on days off and holidays is what makes him and exceptional sportsman.

The world needs more men like Drew Brees... and J. Vilma. Men who aren't afraid to work hard and bleed for what they believe in. Men (or women) with talent, skill, patience, smarts, humility, soul, good character and heart. We truly do.

I LOVE MY BOYS THE NEW ORLEANS SAINTS!!!!!!! I just do and I'm so proud of them tonight. So damn proud of ALL of them!!!!

WHO DAT?!!!!!!!! On March the Saints!

;)

Hugs and Love,
~Namaste~
6/Wendy

PS: Drew Brees' most said words in HIS press conference (for now being the NFL record holder in passing yards):

~~We, We, We, Us, Us, Us~~

Narely an "I" ever uttered!

Amazing man. Simply Amazing!

The whole world loves Drew Brees. If you don't then there is sumthin seriously wrong wit you. Way deep down inside. ;)

I could never trust a person who didn't like Drew Brees. That would be as impossible as liking somebody who kicks puppies or pours gasoline on kittens.

Really? The WHOLE world? Well, I guess there's something "seriously wrong" with me.

Being just a little overly dramatic there, aren't you, Wendy? Abusing animals as compared to not liking a football player. Yeah, not so much.

Just sign the fuck in, why don't you?

Happy (almost) New Year, Mayo!!!!! Happy (almost) New Year, Elena and Possum and MissT and my Sweetcheeks and Martha and Mya everyone else... even those who think I'm a (and I quote) "drunken loon"!

LOL and THANK YOU!!!!! That puts me in the company of some of my favorite poets, writers, artists and people (in general) on the planet! (Like my lawn maintenance men, electrician, OB GYN, and trash men. BEAUTIFUL men. ALL of them. And I'll say it, time and time again!) !

I could not have asked for a better gift this Christmas (although, I may have received gifts of equal or much greater value)!

;)

I, truly, do pity anyone who sees Drew Brees (or any man or woman who has worked so hard for others} as just "some quarterback" or just some "football player".

Really, it IS like seeing Mother Theresa as "just some nun" or Huey P. Long as "just some governor" or the Louisiana purchase as "just another real estate acquisition".

That's what makes Drew Brees so damn special. He doesn't see any "justs". He only sees the "special" in everyone and everything. In every opportunity and in every situation.

YOU think he's "just a guarterback"? Pffft... watch ESPN sometimes, talk to Team Gleason, talk to the kids he has mentored, talk to the Brees Dream Foundation or to anyone in NOLA who has ever had the pleasure of standing within 6 feet from that man.

You want to hate me and call me whatever names you want, you go ahead. But, I strongly suggest you do a little research before you attempt to put down any other people whom I happen to respect, admire and YES, LOVE.

Because, honey; you and yours are only making yourselves look like some bitter, uninformed loons. "Drunken" or not.

Personally, I would prefer dealing with a "drunken loon". At least they have a semi acceptable excuse... sorry as it may be (to some)! I hate to say it; but, DAMN Winston Churchill was right!!!!! LOL and poor Bessie!

;)

Oh, new poem for the NEW YEAR coming up!!!! Hang on, Mayo...

;)

Anon616 said...

Ohhhh.... before I post my brand, spanking new (for the New Year) poem...

Here's lots of other folks who CARE very much about and are very, very THANKFUL to Drew Brees for all he has given to the city of NOLA and the State of Louisiana! For his hard work, his faith, his dedication and his cash in the rebuilding and rebirth of a city/state/region.

~~Drew Brees' record breaking pass and the moments that followed!!!!!~~

:D

:)

:D

*happy dances went on all over the Superdome, NOLA, LA and the Gulf Coast*

Why, I bet even Billie Joe Armstrong and the members of U2 were doing happy dances... somewhere in the world!

Yet another magical, unforgettable night in the "dome". THANK YOU, DREW BREES and the 2011 New Orleans SAINTS!!!!!

Anon616 said...

Just listen to those sports announcers? Could their respect and admiration show any more? I think not. Why, because they all have met Drew Brees. They know him not as just "some quarterback" or some "football player", they know him as a man... as a person. And, in all honesty, it really don't get much better than that. Quarterback, pro football player, man, person, human being. He truly is MVP at all. Most valuable person.

Don't get that. Too bad! Do some research and try to learn from Drew Brees' most excellent example. Put others ahead of yourself, sometime. Put the "team" and the "community" first and see them do the same for you. And share and celebrate WITH them.

You know, sometimes I think my grandma and Drew Brees' grandma must have known each other and been great friends. As I said long, long ago (here), my "maw~maw" taught me at a very young age that "I" and "Me" should always be the least most popular words in my vocabulary. "Us", "We" and "You" should be the most popular.

She should have known. She was an educator for over 30 years. Taught me to read and write before I could barely take more than 6 steps... outside, on my own, down the porch stairs!

Okay, here's that poem! My friends and loved ones here do know (and some even can appreciate) how I sometimes go on and on and on...

;P

The glimpses of the past

The completion of the circle
etched in clouds of blue;

the beginning of continued

*shakes head*

As clueless and oblivious as ever. Still immature enough and more than self centered enough to believe the real Santa brings gifts to them. To believe it's all about what they get for themselves.

You have much to learn, 11:08. So much to learn. I pray you're still a teenager. I would hate think any voting age adult thinks as you do. In purely selfish terms.

I didn't get coal in my stocking. I did recieve thank you letters from my local Veterans's hospital, Adopt a Senior Citizen, Animal Shelters and Thrift shops for the IOU's that I gave to them. Promises of two weeks of volunteer work with each organization for which they know they will collect.

I start my first my first week with the VA on January 3rd. I visit my first adopted senior on Jan. 9th.

I'm betting the gifts of their smiles and their company will out weigh and out value everything you got in your stocking and under your tree for the next 10 years. Unless you learn that is better to give your time, from the heart than it is to receive loot by next year.

I actually had a pre visit with one of my Vets. He told me all about when he was boy and how ridiculous it was to pay hard earned money for paper towels or disposable plates, forks and napkins.

His words what the hell is wrong is with young people when they can't take 2 seconds to wash a damn plate, fork, or towel. How damn lazy and wasteful can they be?

That truly was the greatest generation.

Personally, I think it's shameful that people who toss around a pigskin for a living make upwards of ten million dollars a year to do so.

I don't believe in hero worship, be it of sports figures, rock stars, or actors. These people are just human beings like the rest of us, and quite frankly, if they did not give something back to their communities, given the obscene salaries they command, they'd be less than human.

I had the pleasure of attending the University of Tennessee when Peyton Manning was there. I had a couple of classes with him, and as a TA, often worked with him at the writing center. He was a genuinely nice person, an excellent student, and a great football player. He went on to play in the NFL, win a Super Bowl, and donate lots of time and money to charity. Is he a helluva guy? You betcha. Do I think that anyone who "doesn't love him" has something "seriously wrong with them"? No, because that's ridiculous.

He's a football player with tons of disposable income and spare time. The fact that he feels the responsibility to give some of his good fortune back to his community does not make him some kind of superhero. It just means he's not a jackass.

Personally, I think the world would be a better place if people had a little more perspective when it comes to sports. Football is only a game. If the people at Penn State had not seen their team as such an untouchable institution, the abuse of many young boys could have been stopped so much sooner. Instead, it was swept under the rug for years.

Don't get me wrong. I think it's great to have things in your life that you love, and people that you admire. I just think it's too bad that so many people have to turn that admiration into such outrageous (and sometimes harmful) hero-worship.

It is rather bizarre that Samoa will completely skip a day this year, so if you're born on Dec 30 and are in Samoa, you don't get an actual birthday, and everyone will be a day less old than their age would dictate.
The decision was taken by the Samoan government to line up with their major trading partners, Australia & New Zealand.
They are moving from the right side of the international date line to the left, so instead of being the last country in the world to change date (after the USA etc) they'll be the first (before NZ and us) and to do it they have to lose a day to line up with us instead, i.e. right now, we are Friday the 30th, they are Thursday the 29th, but tomorrow we'll both be Saturday the 31st, so there is no Friday the 30th.

And in associated news...

The Rebecca Black tour of Samoa has been cancelled as she's now really confused.

3:19, thanks for your concern. My sister's ok, she's far from good, but she is a little bit better. She's gone 20 weeks now and still sick as a dog every few hours! She had a very bad time a few weeks ago and was advised to have a termination for her own health. She refused. It's a constant worry, but we do what we can to help her out.

I felt incredibly sad and miserable yesterday morning when I left that comment. See, my beautiful 82 yr old Auntie Doris died a few days before Christmas. I adored her and her quirky little ways. It was her funeral yesterday. Strange how most funerals are sad affairs and yet her funeral was full of laughter as we remembered her. She'd like that:)

I can't believe it's New Year's Eve already. Last couple of weeks has been a bit of a blur between hospital visits and funeral arrangements and all that. Me and all my cousins (there's a helluva lot of us) are getting together tonight for a bit of a sing song in Auntie Doris' memory. At the stroke of midnight we'll all stand outside and bow and greet the new year just as she did every year. It'll be good.

Wishing everyone here a Happy New Year.

Happy New Year, Mayo!!!! Happy New Year, everyone!!!!

I hope you all had a wonderful, fun (and safe) New Year's Eve, Eve; New Year's Eve and (further record breaking) New Year's Day!!!!!

*grabs Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie and any other ponies around and HAPPY DANCES*

Saints = 45 (again) WINNING the last game of the regular season to finish with an 8 game winning streak (and breaking more NFL records on the way to that last win) and a 13 and 3 season record!!! YAY!!!! Onto the playoffs (Saints vs. Detroit Lions ~ *in the DOME) next week!
Panthers = 17

*the Saints haven't loss ONE home game this season. Let's hope they don't make next week (start of the playoffs) the 1st! Nah!

~~I BELIEVE (Go, Saints, all the Way) by Ms. Angela Bell and Harrison Ave.~~

Geaux Saints!!!!! (And, LSU too!!!!!)

In other news, it got pretty JUICY at Harrah's New Year's Eve ~ Eve Better Than Ezra show! Ummm, hmmmm... look at all those drunken, loose, looney women dancing on stage! SHAMEFUL! Lol!

~~BET "Juicy" the cabaret LIVE at Harrah's~~

Ohhhh... and they played "Wicked Game"!!!! I didn't record that one (although, in hindsight, I should have even though it was more Chris Isaak style ~ with Ezra flair ~ than HIM style.) It was beautiful!!!!

And, it's always great to see/hear John Gros (of Papa Grows Funk) with BTE, or any one else!!!

Here they are:

~~ screwing around with "Whiter Shade of Pale" and playing (and playing during) "Desperately Wanting"~~

In conclusion, HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone!!!!! I hope 2012 is off to a fantastic (or at least an okay start) for each and every one of you!

:)

Stay safe out there!!!!

He was a genuinely nice person, an excellent student, and a great football player. He went on to play in the NFL, win a Super Bowl, and donate lots of time and money to charity.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ohhhh... but, you forgot to mention somethings about Peyton Manning anon. He was born and raised in NEW ORLEANS and his dad, Archie Manning, was the best and most loved of all SAINTS quarterbacks... until Drew Brees came along that is! And, Peyton Manning and Drew Brees are great friends and supporters of one another and each others charities.
You see, it's not about "hero worship". It's about pride in one's community and all who came from, adopted and give back to that community.
It's about giving credit where it is due and appreciating talent and skill. Be it talent and skill with words, a paint brush, a camera, a hockey stick OR talent and skill with a ball.
It's about supporting and showing gratitude to those "talented, skilled and YES... perhaps well paid" people with extra big hearts. Because, you might be surprised how many "well paid" people are just plain greedy and selfish with their time and their money. Drew Brees is NOT one of those people. Nor is Sean Payton (coach of the NOLA Saints).
I, personally, have 6 "heros" in life. My dad, my brother, my mom , my sister, people who go that extra mile for charity (again, people like Drew Brees and Sean Payton... and BTE and KISS) and anyone who has had the courage to face and fight their demons. Whether they've won the battle, ultimately lost their battle, or are still fighting. They are my, personal, heros. Regardless of annual income.
:)
Honestly, I don't understand some people's fascination with other people's job titles, occupations, salary or "contract values". Who cares?! It's not what you get.
IT'S WHAT YOU GIVE!
And, PS: It's ALWAYS "Good" to remember:
~~YOU GET WHAT YOU GIVE~~
^LIVE from the EZRA FOUNDATION'S benefit/auction/concert at Harrah's back in September! Coach Sean Payton was there that night too!!!!
