Third Door on the Right

"I don’t know how to pray," she said.
"For this, for you, the end."
She lay at a loss,
Her eyes polluted, steely slits.
Rice paper skin loosely holding in
Vast, venerable veins.
Their purpose fooled
Into considering one more day.
"It is Thursday,
And I have a permanent."
Then her eyes fix themselves
Upon mine, she knows.
"Keep me in mind,
Dear." I won’t forget.
And that is just like her
To hold off death intent
To have her say. Again
She knows, and then does not,
It is time. Fraught
With just enough heart
Remaining, she pulls her way
Loose from her body, barely
What it was when she was put to bed.
It is cold and blue and black and red.
For the last time,
"I don’t know how to pray,"
She said. It is alright…
I will for this, for you, the end.

Trolls.

VV trolls, go away. Just go away. Stop coming here and trying to stir shit up.

What the hell does VV's have to do with anything? You're obsessed 1:09.

Maybe they are pissed because Gerard didn't run for president and the people over at VV's wouldn't vote for him?

Who's been on holiday lately? I'm thinking of going to st. thomas next month.

Did someone mention a pole? May, June, July, August. Makes no difference to me as long as it's long, wide and sturdy.

Anonymous said...

I like a good hard solid pole. That hollow shit just don't hold up as good.

Anonymous said...

As long as it is summer. In the winter things will get stuck on a frozen pole. Ouch!

My tongue is patient and warm enough to warm any pole. You just need to breath on it a little first. No ouch involved. Only mmmm. ;)

You know Bin Laden will be turned into a martyr for Muslim extremists. You know he will.

This isnt the end of the war on terrorism. It's the beginning of the climax and it's not going to be a good one.

Welshie said...

Bin Laden's dead? Bloody hell.
I agree with everything you said 1:38.

I know very little about American politics but as a Brit I will say that I hated George Bush. Never trusted him. I thought he was hungry for war. Couldn't stand the man. Maybe I'm being unfair on the guy cos my opinion of him is based purely on the British press.

I felt the world was going to be a much safer place once Barrack Obama was elected as president. Not sure anymore cos I think there'll be hell to pay for Bin Laden's death. I think this is just the beginning of more acts of terrorism. It's bloody scary to be honest.

Like I said that's my personal opinion. I don't claim to speak for any other Brit on this blog.

Welshie said...

Oh and Good Morning to everyone:)

The images of Americans celebrating the death of BinLaden by cheering in the streets will only add fuel to the fire.

I'm glad the man's dead but it would have much better to capture him and keep him alive, locked in a tiny cage for the rest of his miserable life.

You can't martyr a living person.

So you're looking for some action
I got got everything you need
Better keep your motor running
'cause I was built for speed
This ain't no slumber party
Got no time for catching z's
If they say that that ain't healthy
Well then living's a disease

We're never going to die baby
Come on let me drive you crazy
We'll make every night another New Year's Eve

Till I'm six feet under
I won't need a bed
Gonna live while I'm alive

And lay my bones to rest
Gonna live while I'm alive

I was born to live
You know I wasn't born to die
But if they party down in heaven
I'll be sure to be on time

Until I'm six feet under

DUBAI - (Reuters) - In the early hours of Monday, Sohaib Athar reported on his Twitter account that a loud bang had rattled his windows in the Pakistani town of Abbottabad, saying he hoped "its not the start of something nasty."

A few hours later Athar posted another tweet: "Uh oh, now I'm the guy who liveblogged the Osama raid without knowing it."

In the age of Twitter, perhaps it's no surprise that the first signs of the U.S. operation that killed al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden were noticed by an IT consultant awake late at night.

Athar, a resident of Abbottabad where bin Laden was holed up, first noticed a helicopter and thought it unusual enough to post this on his Twitter account.

"Helicopter hovering above Abbottabad at 1AM (is a rare event)," wrote Athar. Moments later, he added: "A huge window shaking bang here... I hope its not the start of something nasty."

After liveblogging and speculating for several hours over what happened, it dawned on Athar and those following him that they were witnessing the end of a worldwide manhunt for the man held responsible for orchestrating the September 11, 2001 attacks.

I don't think Bin Laden will become a martyr like some of you are thinking. He was one mad that controlled one group. There are a lot of different people in the middle east who are mad for all sorts of reason.

If there is another act I don't think it will be because of Bin Laden. It could happen because of Gitmo or that man who burned the Quran.

The next terrorist might not come from the middle east. I hear there is a new group of people calling themselves the IRA.

One thing is for sure, the people whose job it is to gather intelligence about planned attacks will be working hard. This time when they say they are hearing whispers about a planned attack it won't fall on deaf ears.

Anonymous said...

Before some one brings it up. I know that the IRA was around before. This "new" group is a splinter group from the original.

Hi Ergo, we're all good thanks! Still under Civil Defence warning for the next few hours. Death toll has gone up and quite a few people are critically injured. It was nowhere near as large as what as the States has been experiencing, but it went through quite a few city suburbs. This is completely insane weather for around here! =(

Good Morning

Possum I am so glad to see you are okay. It was really weird this morning when I went to Twitter and saw the storm chaser that I follow had tweeted about a tornado in New Zealand. Really wasn't expecting that.

Today is actually the anniversary of the Great Plains Tornado outbreak from 1999 which killed 40 people and left 675 injured. I remember that one too well. Sadly what has recently happened down South is much worse.

Here's to hoping the weather calms down.

Welshie said...

Hello elena, you still there? Mr E's not been well? He's gonna be okay? Thank god for that.

Why aren't you here as much Elena? I'm sorry but I don't understand the point you're trying to make.

Are you not here as much because of DTBA, because Mayo doesn't interact with you and the other bloggers anymore or because you miss people you once said were your friends?

And if you aren't here as much anymore isn't that your choice, your decision.

Nostalgia is a nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there.

Tips hat to the CIA too.

The CIA finally gets its day after tracking bin Laden for 10 years. Well done CIA. The intelligence was right this time. Well done!

The world forgives you for that weapons of mass destruction error in Iraq now. Even Saddam himself believed your intelligence on that one. He thought he had them.

Clean slate and kudos to the CIA.

elena said...

2:18 I believe I tried to explain but I guess you missed it. I have not been here much because my husband has had health issues. That was of course my first priority. There are other things I won't share for obvious reasons.

Of course it's my choice to be here or not. Everyone has the same choice. However at times the choices you make are not necessarily the ones you like they are the ones you know are right.

But to be clear no one here has been the cause of my absence. Not DTB anon, and certainly not Mayo.

I am here when I feel I have the time. That won't change.

Oh and as for nostalgia...I agree nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there. And I don't. Each day to me is a new beginning. I may wake up in the same bed, drive to the same store, talk to the same friends but that's just my life. To think doing the same thing everyday is because I'm nostalgic for the past is kinda silly. This place is simply a part of my life, has been since I first posted. Like everything else it has changed along the way. Life, at least mine, is made up of many different parts. Some days one part is more important than another. It needs more of my attention.

So now I'm not even sure why I bothered to explain. I guess because I am trying not to look at your comment in a negative light.

Oh well, whatever.

Have a nice day anon.

It's sometimes easier to open up to someone you don't really know as you know they ahve no preconceived ideas about the situation and can just listen to how you feel, rather than add their own bits and bobs

My thoughts and prayers to out to the people of Memphis, Tenn and all the communities along the Mississippi River in danger of flooding. :(

Anonymous said...

The river is forecast to crest at 53.5 feet on May 18 at Vicksburg, Miss., a key gauge. That is the highest river stage recorded at Vicksburg since the catastrophic flooding of 1927 when the river reached 56.6 feet and would have kept on rising if levees hadn't given way, causing massive flooding and killing hundreds. After that calamity, the nation undertook an aggressive $13 billion plan to build levees and floodways that would avert such a scale of flooding again.

:(

Anonymous said...

it's 5 feet high and rising

ergoproxy said...

wow that's scary, I hope it doesn't break the levees again and they have a good evacuation plan in place in case it does.

Anonymous said...

They've already blown up parts of the levees in Missouri, Ergo. They're trying to save towns by blowing up parts of the levee and flooding farm land.

ergoproxy said...

Yeah I saw that on the news better to flood farmland than put people and towns in danger. Farmland recovers much more quickly though crops etc are lost it's the lesser of the possible damages.
Hope anyone who is affected by it gets better insurance help than some here, with them arguing over the actual definition of flooding to justify not paying people.

Anonymous said...

Insurance companies are the same all over. They'll try to get out of paying victims any way they can.

I hope the gov't is subsidizing those farmers for their losses. Not just this years crops but for years to come.

Anonymous said...

I'm sure those farm families are heartbroken about losing their homes, barns, equipment and seeing their work destroyed. :(

Can you imagine getting a knock on your door one day and gov't officials coming in and telling you that they're purposely going to flood your home and property to save more populated areas. That has to be a whole different kind of nightmare.

ergoproxy said...

Our farmers got compensation from the govt. everyone who suffered flood damage did.
They have been fantastic through all the natural disasters we've suffered in the last few years, as have businesses giving free goods, tradesmen giving their time etc.
It's just insurance companies that suck however they are now creating a set simple definition of flood so there will be no more phaffing about.

It would be horrible to be told that, but they should get compensation, but I don't know how it works over there

Hi ya'll!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

JAZZ fest 2011 has simply been the BEST JAZZ EVVA!!!! Bar none and I am so seriouz!

So much wonderful "local" talent!!!! So many fabulous international flavors!!!!

The purrr fect gumbo it has been! Delightfully DELICIOUS!!!! I <3 ed every moment of it, so far.

And YES, my heart DOES totally and completely belong to BTE (Better Than Ezra), this year. It does. That is the plain and simple truth of the whole matter!

It's just so wonderful and "GOOD" (so damn good) seeing people you knew back in the day and seeing them in the HERE AND THE NOW and ... yeah, well... it's "so damn good"!!!!!

Of course, all of our LA festivals are always good for things such as that. Jazz Fest, Voodoo Fest, French Quarter Fest, etc... it's always so good to walk up to a stage and see someone you knew/know and LOVE doing what they LOVE to do... after ALL these years.

THAT always brings a HUGE SMILE to my face! It's like "Yeah BABY!!!! There you are!!!! Still up there on that main stage after 20 plus years. HELL YEAH and I LOVE YOU for all you are and all you have given and contributed to music!!!!"

I really have no words to express my love, gratitude, appreciation and respect for all the local 'Lousiana" bands and musicians who have played Jazz Fest year after year after year...

All the Soul Rebels, John Boutte's, Irma Thomas', Better than Ezra's, Cowboy Mouths, Fat's (until Katrina), Bonerama's, Trombone Shorty's, Allan Tousaints, The Chaniers and the Boudreaux's , etc... THANK YOU ALL!!!

Thank you for never, ever forgetting where you came from and for always being willing to give back!

Heart and Soul and just a lil bit o'funk (and a whole lotta ROCK) ... That, right there, is what it is all about!

I just feel so damn grateful to "come from" where I "come from" and to know the people whom I know (some you dont' even know YOU KNOW until you walk up to a stage at Jazz Fest and look and say "Heeey!!!!! What the hell you doing up there on that stage"! You better git off 'fore you git in troubles! OHHHH, Never mind! LOL!!!) and the culture that i Love.

Miss T: I LOVE YOU, lady and my thoughts and prayers are with you and your cousin!

Hugs and Love,

PS: The $9 canned Champagne at Jazz fest simply is NOT worth the price! Get loaded BEFORE and at the "after parties". Just a little bit of advice for you "non locals". The beer prices are reasonable, if you like beer (which I don't). LOL!!!!

Hi Ergo! Good to see you. It's been such a long time.

You ever heard BONERAMA? They are darlings of ROLLING STONE! Not that I can blame the Rolling Stone for being infatuated with them. They are WONDERFUL!!!!! I mean, who knew Black Sabbath could be played on the horns!!!!! But, Bonerama does just that and they do it splendidly!!!!!

Dang!!!! Those Bonerama men sure can "blow" can't they?!!! The best part of Jazz Fest is you never know who will "guest" appear with whom!!! Allan Toussaint with Irma Thomas, Irma with Galactic, Bonerama members with Cowboy Mouth and Better Than Ezra, John Boutte and other Legends singing wherever they want to sing, S
t. Aug marching 100 members (the future of Jazz and Blues and rock and hip hop) appearing here and there...

It's f*cking fantastic!!!!!! I <3 The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festitval!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL!!! He's all like "been there, done that, NEVER want to see it again"!

Oh, he knows NOT what he's missing these years!

I'm going to get him to go back ONE of these years. I am determined! He'll run into all sorts of old friends and he'll LOVE IT! I know he will and so will my sister!

Miss T I'm so sorry to read about your cousin's illness. I believe it's the fear and all the other overwhelming thoughts going through his head at this time that's doing the talking.

I suggest that you try to let him see that he needs to take it one step at a time, and that the future is not predetermined.

All the best for your cousin and your family.

Good Morning and Happy Mother's Day

Today I will be planting our vegetable garden. Okay while that might not sound like a lot of fun honestly I am excited about the prospect. Digging in the freshly turned earth, placing the small plants in each hole, covering their roots...Then knowing I will be able to watch them grow.

These actions bring me a calming peace.

I hope everyone here finds that calming peace today no matter what you do.

Happy Mother's Day to all who celebrate it today.

Ergo I loved the way you paid tribute to all the women who take on a mother's role. That really touched me you know. Sometimes I tend to forget the huge sacrifice my aunts made in bringing me and my sisters up. They didn't have to, they could've shoved us into a childrens home instead. God knows where the hell I'd be now if it wasn't for their kindness. Seriously sometimes I lie awake at night wondering what my life would be like if say I'd gone to a home in far away England! Would I've forgotten my language and speak only English, or even worse would I be supporting the English Rugby team?!!

Wendy how come you get to see all these great bands? I never get to see bugger all. Having said that I'm going to Wakestock in the Summer. Can't wait to see Biffy Clyro:)

I've just finished work in the restaurant. It was the boss's birthday so we all stayed behind and had champagne! Damn bubbles went up my nose and made my eyes water. Not used to it see.

*big hugs to Miss T*

Hi Wendy, my brother is a jazz muso he'd probably love to go to an american jazz festival. He plays festivals here and generally plays with any visiting performers in his city.

hi welshie, I think being a mother can be so much more than having to have given birth to someone. It may be for a lifetime, or for a period of need, like your relatives. Family situations can leave children without a mother figure for many reasons and any woman who can selflessly step into that role is wonderful.
And thank goodness you aren't and England supporter!!

Hello and "whatsup" Mayo, Elena, Welshie, Ergo, MissT, time keepers, everyone!

I'll tell you what's UP here. The RIVVA (That would be the great old Mississippi River) is up. Way, way, way UP! Already over flood stage and still rising.

:(

I, actually, went take a look see yesterday and it's scary. (I do live less than 1/4 mile from the rive/levee). I've never seen the river that high in my life. Never. Almost to the top of the levee and a good 19 feet higher than River Road.

It's not good when your flood stage is approximately 22 feet and the river is expected to crest at over 30 feet.

We did open 28 locks of the Bonnet Carre Spillway today (to relieve pressure on the levee system). Hopefully, more of those locks and the Morganza Spillway will be opened soon.

My heart goes out to all the people of Memphis (and other areas affected by river flooding). At least we have the spillway system to work with {and hope it works). They had nothing to help them.

MissT: *more hugs*

Welshie: I feel blessed to have been born in NOLA and to still live in the New Orleans area (despite the water troubles). I'm sure you feel the same about Wales!!!! I mean, all those gorgeous hills and mountains!!!!

Elena: Thank you and I hope you have a good day too!!!

Ergo: Your brother and my brother in law should get together and blow some tunes one day! LOL! Though, I don't know how much 'blowing' my BIL could do these days. He does only have one lung (of course, he did play for a good 15 years with only that one lung)!

to be continued...

Anon616/Wendy still signed into youtube said...

... continued

Here are those 'promised' more "LIVE from JAZZ FEST" videos. I'm sorry; but, I think Rolling Stone did a horrible job with that live stream! I was very disappointed with that.

Oh well! I suppose they couldn't show everyone and everything. I was a nice "taste" of Jazz Fest for anyone who wanted a sampling!

Better Than Ezra's opening song (with special guests on the brass):

~~King of New Orleans~~

What's up, Tom?!!!!

*metal salute*

~~most of DESPERATELY WANTING complete with COWBELL extravaganza!!!!~~

~~GOOD~~

~~Absolutely Still~~

Green Day/U2 cover:
~~The Saints Are Coming~~

~~ cause tramps like us; baby we were BORN TO RUN!!!!~~

That was BTE's closing song. Their set was way too short if anyone were to ask me!

And, as (also) promised:

~~WAR PIGS ~ Bonerama!!!!!~~

Hell yeah!!!

Okay, I think I forgot one or two; but, that is enough for now. More than enough, I'm sure!

Going get my Arcade Fire videos started now! I don't think I managed to get a full AF song though. My batteries were running on the battery equivalent of exhaust fumes by then. OOOPS!

Have a great day/night, everyone!!! Stay safe out there!

Hugs and Love,

you know, kid, I know how you feel
about this fight that's comin' up.
Because I was young once, too.
I tell you somethin'.
Why, if you wasn't here,
I probably wouldn't be alive today.
The fact that you're here and doing
as well as you're doing gives me...
What do you call it?
A motivisation to stay alive.
Cos I think that people die sometimes
when they don't wanna live no more.

And nature is smarter than people think.
Little by little we lose our friends
we lose everything and we keep
losing and losing, till we say:
"What the hell am I living around
here for? I got no reason to go on".
But with you, kid...
Boy, I got a reason to go on.
And I'm gonna stay alive.
And I will watch you make good.
- And I'll never leave you.
- I'll never leave you until that happens.
Cos when I leave you,
you'll not only know how to fight,
you'll be able to take care of yourself
outside the ring, too. Is that OK?
- It's OK.
- OK.
- I got a gift for you.
- Ah, Mickey.
- Wait a minute now.
- Really, I don't need nothin'.
Look at that. See that? This here's the
favourite thing that I have on this earth.
And Rocky Marciano give me that.
You know what it was? His cuff link.
And now I'm giving it to you.
And it's gonna be like...
Like an angel on your shoulder to you.
And if you ever get hurt and
you feel that you're goin' down,
this little angel
is gonna whisper in your ear.
He's gonna say
"Get up, you son of a bitch!"
"Cos Mickey loves you".
Thanks, Mick. I love you, too.
You was the angel.
- There it is.
- What happened to his other cuff link?
I don't know. He only give me one.
He gave it to some bum.

Stunning. Simply Stunning!!!!!

:D

I hope you're all having a wonderful day/night/week/month etc...

Me? I'm very worried about my friends T&T in Vicksburg, MS. It's horrible what has happened there in less than 24 hours. I've been trying to get in touch with them all day and ... so far, nothing...

:(

Most of Louisiana is still dry ('God Willing and the "river don't rise' anymore BEFORE the Morganza Spillway is opened); but, It will and there's not much anyone can do about it.

Well, Spike Lee could probably get another documentary out of this. Bless his heart!

I, seriously, want to know where they brought all those DEATH ROW inmates they evacuated from Angola Prison (The Farm). And, that "tent city" they have set up for the other prisoners had better be well secured). We ain't talking about 'good and nice' people up in there, folks! No matter how much sympathy people felt thanks to Sean Penn's performance in "Dead Man Walking". Only the most violent of the violent and/or repeat offenders get sent to "The Farm".

And, if you're ever in Louzianna, feel free to visit "The Farm"!

Hopefully, it will still be there (most of above water) next month.

Anon616 said...

The Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola is one of the largest and most notorious maximum security prisons in the country. Nicknamed "the Farm," it is a working agricultural complex that utilizes cheap prisoner labor (wages range between 4 cents and 20 cents per hour) for traditional agriculture production and light industry. The penitentiary occupies 18,000 acres of the prime farm land that was once a 19th century plantation--the Angola Plantation--named after the area in Africa that supplied most of the plantation's slave labor. The site is home to some 5,000 inmates, over 80% of whom are serving life sentences and are expected to die on the penitentiary grounds and be buried in the prisoner's graveyard. Angola Penitentiary is also home to 1,800 employees who live in town, descried as the "safest in America," located in the middle of the penitentiary. The prison is considered one of the most accessible prisons in the country. It has its own radio station, newspaper, and acclaimed magazine --The Angolite--produced by prisoners. The penitentiary runs regular tours that include The Angola Prison museum with such exhibits as "Old Sparky," an electric chair last used in Angola in 1991. Angola also holds annual events for the public such as the Angola Prison Rodeo in the fall and the Arts and Crafts Festival in the spring.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Some of those "arts and crafts" are SERIOUSLY beautiful. I'm just being honest here.
Sometimes, are those negative emotions and horrible thoughts can produce things of great beauty.
What I can't get past is how the victims and most of their families may never be able ...
well, yeah.
Shades of gray. So many shades of gray.
Okay, well, I won't end my day's commenting on that thought. NOPE, I will not!
Hmmm...
I think it's time for some MEATLOAF (with a side of Cher)!!!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dead Ringer for Love

Every night I grab some money and I go down to the bar
I got my buddies and a beer, I got a dream, I need a car
You got me begging on my knees, c'mon and throw the dog a bone

A man he doesn't live by rock 'n roll and brew alone
Baby baby,

Rock 'n roll and brew, rock 'n roll and brew
They don't mean a thing when I compare 'em next to you
Rock 'n roll and brew, rock 'n roll and brew
I know that you and I oh we got better things to do

I don't know who you are or what you do, or where you go when you're not around
I don't know anything about you baby, but you're everything I'm dreaming of
I don't know who you are, but you're a real dead ringer for love
A real dead ringer for love

(Cher:) Ever since I can remember you been hanging 'round this joint
You been trying to look away but now you finally got the point

I don't have to know your name and I won't tell you what to do
But a girl - she doesn't live by only rock 'n roll and brew

Baby baby, baby baby - chorus

(Meatloaf) You got the kind of legs that do more than walk

(Cherl:) I don't have to listen to your whimpering talk
(Meatloaf:) Listen you got the kind of eyes that do more than see

(Cher:) You got a lotta nerve to come on to me
(Meat:) You got the kind of lips that do more than drink

(Cher:) You got the kind of mind that does less than think
But since I'm feeling kinda lonely and my defenses are low
Why don't you give it a shot and get it ready to go
I'm looking for anonymous and fleeting satisfaction
And I want to tell my daddy I'll be missing in action

Ever since I can remember I've been hanging 'round this joint
My daddy never noticed, now he'll finally get the point

(Meat:) You got me beggin' on my knees, c'mon and throw the dog a bone
A man he doesn't live by rock 'n roll and brew alone
Baby baby - chorus
Dead ringer for love
Dead ringer for love - dead ringer

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There! That's much better!
Goodnight and sweet dreams to one and all!!!! Stay safe (and, hopefully, DRY)!
And as I have run out of hands, my left foot limply proffers the suggestion that none of the above guesstimates are correct and that you're simply talking to someone you know.
So. Have you been well? Just checking, you know.
I'm at the store today. Hell I'm at the store everyday now. Can't afford to pay employees when business is so bad. But hey, maybe today there will be a lot of good customers. Gotta hold on to hope.
Well anyway, hope you have a great day Mayo. Take care.
elena said...
Hey Welshie
So what color are you painting the walls?
Welshie said...
White Elena. It's a typical Welsh cottage, stone walls, wooden beams and slate floors. I like to keep things simple. It really is tiny, no room to swing a cat as they say, not that I'd want to swing said cat mind you, be a bit cruel really wouldn't it. Poor cat:(
