Burning the Manual

I have righted myself before you.
Pulled the knife out of my wound,
And shoved it back in yours.
Like you knew I would.
Like you knew I could.
Before I ever had a name
You knew it was there,
Everything for you
And you know it, and I
Know it still, the same.

Good Morning, Everyone!

Only in for a moment, in the middle of cleaning and rearranging furniture in the living room. I'm feeling better today, thank you to all that asked, still gunked up, but no fever, and the fluid in my ears is draining. I'm on Zyrtec full time now, so we'll see if that helps.

It is a hot and muggy day here, but beautiful blue skies. I'm going to go out walking later this evening when it cools down.

Can't leave you without:

Cyndi Lauper's "You Don't Know", L.'s Music Recommendation For The Day

The thought behind this song is so true for many, how they conform to be who people want them to be, not who they really are, because they desperately need to feel like they belong, to fit in. You can do that for a while, and ignore the real you inside, screaming to get out, but eventually, it will all crash down.

Bottom line, be yourself. As a dear friend always reminds me, "Those who matter don't mind, and those who mind don't matter."

Hello to Mayo, S.S., Lacey, Wendy, Ergo, Elena, Miss T., B.C., TJ, Wish, Lewis, KOL Anon, Martha, Jade, Anima, Paperheart, Mya, m., nice anons, lurkers, superheroes, lost web surfers, John Boy and anyone else I missed.

Have a good day, and see you later.

Love,
L.

Had to share this. Came across it a couple of days ago in "Songs Of The Doomed" and used it as a post.

"Nobody can handle electricity gone amok. It is too powerful... Ben Franklin was never able to lock a door again after that day lightning came down his kite string and fused that key to his thumb. They called it a great discovery and they called him a great scientist, but, in fact, he bawled like a baby for the rest of his life every time he smelled rain in the air."

Good Tipper, sounds like you got more than a crisp dollar bill for Mr. Orkin Man! Is he the only Orkin Man in history to have shag carpet in that van?

Ok, back to it. I moved the couch, tables and scooted the tv, but the old tv and entertainment center will have to be moved by someone stronger than I, cause I'm already gonna be in for a world of hurt tonight.

Mayo, S.S., either one of you, or both, want to move some furniture around? I would ask the O.M. too, but I think he's booked for the time being. Or something.

Chicks are always cute. I haven't seen one up close for a while now, but last time I held one (briefly) was lovely.

Aw, that would be nice :) Do you name them? Random question, lol.

ergoproxy said...

not until I know which are hens and which are roosters, hens get named, sort of, but they look so alike it's only if they stand out for some reason that you can tell
Of the last lot only 3 have names, GG, Meg and One Eye the Wonderhen, lol (I have 10 hens, one rooster)
(roosters are for eating, so I don't name them)

Wish you were here said...

0_0 One Eye The Wonderhen only has one eye, I assume? That strikes me as creepy in some way, lol. A hen looking at you with one beady eye.
I guess it's sensible not to name roosters then. It would be weird the think you had Boris, or whoever, in the oven.

I'm burning the candle at both ends again, so I'm going to bed before they meet in the middle. Night Ergo, Mayo, SS, anons, anyone else. Enjoy the what's left of your day :)

how was your day?

toujours said...

hi ergo!

it's a really cute pic. :)

my day was both good and really excruciatingly dull. lol

saturday's always a bit slow, you see, but i had a couple of customers who i was able to help, not just sell them stuff. one was an elderly lady looking to preserve the quilt her grandmother made (it was gorgeous, thin and soft and worn and faded, like a dream of a quilt, simple but a true treasure). i was able to help her out quite a lot, thanks to some research i had done years ago on storing vintage clothing and quilts with archival techniques.

then i had a call from a woman in new york who wasn't a quilter but needed to find some -- my google fu was string today, and the phone call ended with her having a whole slew of links to check out.

that's the gratifying part of this job. the selling gets old, but it's fun to really help people. :)

how did your day go?

toujours said...

correction: my google fu was actually strong today -- it's like i slipped into some arcane quantum physics jargon there. lol

mayo,

i'm just sitting here, headphones in, listening to muse. supposedly, i was thinking about what i wanted to say to you tonight, but then i realized that my mind was still on the discussion i had had earlier.

i showed my mom that new chris anthony picture, the one linked here. the reactions to it have been so wide-ranging, i was curious what she would think of it.

she was resistant to it at first glance, but then stayed to take a real look at it as i explained what i saw in it. i think her initial reaction was negative not because of the photo itself, but because the moment it re-enacted was one that she felt she owned, it was a moment that had become sacred to her through its impact.

i don't have that feeling about the kennedy assassination; it's something historical to me and though i can appreciate it as a pivotal moment in american history i don't have an emotional attachment to it. to me, the photo of gerard and lyndsey way takes that event and iconizes it, with clear morning light and sculptural shadows and that compelling expression on lyndsey's face. it's a tableau of a violent, chaotic moment. a pièta, almost.

i like the photo; i keep going back to the sites where it has been reposted to see it again. the more i see chris anthony's work, the more i like it. i admire his ability to take photos that are spare in scene and yet have so much story crowding in around the edges.

but i think my mom could only like the picture once she had recast it as an homage to the solemnity of the real event. she had to fit it into her inner mythology. she had to create a story for it that enabled it to make sense to her.

that, more than anything i encountered in any of my art classes, brought home to me how much of a mirror art is. what we see in a painting or a statue is shaped by what we are able to see.

and maybe that's what truly defines great art (or maybe even just good art), that it has the ability to reflect not only what we are ready to see, but also to open up areas within us so that we can see in new ways, so that we walk away with more than that with which we approached.

and i'm not going to say if that photo by chris anthony is great art, or good art, or whatever. it's too personal a call, and this is all just my own feeble musings on the topic, you know?

but i keep going back to look at that photo, for the light, for the colors, for that infinite undefinable expression in her eyes. it is, in my opinion, a strong and beautiful image, and it was interesting to try and convince my mom of that, and to watch her examine the picture in a new light.

and now muse is done and my mp3 player is silent, and i am ready to sleep the sleep of someone who doesn't have to go to work in the morning. maybe i'll make something beautiful this weekend.

and then again, knowing how lazy i am, maybe i won't.

*grin*

good night, mayo. hoping your day tomorrow is one of clear light and beautiful moments.

Tonight I watched a movie that for whatever reason seemed to have chosen me. See there is a huge stack of movies and we choose the movie of the night by blindly grabbing one. Well tonight it was a flick titled “Murder Party.” The basic storyline is this.. a man finds an invitation to a Halloween party, or as it’s called A Murder Party. His life is uneventful, his cat is obstinate, and it’s a sad and lonely existence. But what he believes is a chance to become social turns into him walking into the hands of a rogue collective intent on murdering him for the sake of their art. The movie, while billed as horror, is so much more. It is very thought provoking. I think there is a chance you might truly enjoy it. But then again, I could be very wrong.

Hope your day was good, as I always do. Take care.

seeing as it was brought up I wanted to clarify,
my feelings about the pic are nothing to do with the event,
to me it is only something I have seen on tv,
a capturing of a tragic moment in history

I, personally, find myself unable to prevent thoughts of how I would feel, if confronted with that loss, and the devastation it would cause me.
For the same reason I find watching programs in which children are lost or hurt very difficult to endure.
I cannot prevent myself imagining a similar thing happening to me, and that is something I do not wish to do.
I also don't like living people depicted as dead, so I would not choose to pose that way, it unfortunately would bring to me thoughts of tempting fate.

So while I can appreciate the skills of the photographer, which I can see are quite brilliant, it's not for me.

Wish you were here said...

Now that I'm properly awake, the chick pictures are really cute! I always imagine them as yellow, lol. The lamb is a sweet addition. I agree with your last point about the photo Ergo.

-----------------
But also, I can see that a lot of people are having an adverse reaction to it, and it would seem that a lot of it is to do with 'who they are'. At the end of the day, whether artisically done or not, it's just another two people trying to cash in on that awful event for the purpose of sales. Nothing more, nothing less, and honestly, I think the argument over whether or not it is art, just gives it more hype.

I think if people want a real photograph to be outraged or disgusted or moved by, there are a lot to choose from which captured horiffic real life and not a mock up of them for something as inconsequential as a comic. Like Kevin Carter's depiction of a small Sudanese girl being preyed on by a vulture as she tried to make her way to the refuge of a nearby camp. That won him a Pulitzer prize.

lewishasfallensloppydead said...

Wow.

I am certainly not old enough to have 'experienced' the Kennedy assasination. But for some reason, as I am aware that Kennedy and Jackie were real living people; I have to say I find anyone who makes 'art' of that horrid moment (or any other like it), fucking disgusting.

I find it hard to believe that anyone (*capable of human emotion) would find such a great DISRESPECT (to a man who DID actually try to do good things for our country, who did NOT give up because others thought his efforts were futile or unpopular) in any way attractive. That man got his brains blown out. With his wife sitting beside him.

Has anyone ever imagined losing a loved one like that? 'Experienced' it? Put yourself in THAT moment. They are sitting beside you. Alive. Breathing. Laughing. Whispering something for you, that puts a smile on your face. Then, suddenly they are dead. Just, gone. And you've got your loved one's fucking brains on your clothes. Your face. Maybe even in your mouth. Would you like some childish rock star ass to 're-create' it?

I do love art. I cannot deny it has power over me. It draws me. I need it. I cannot ignore it. And YES, the photo of GW and his wife IS art. And I do have an attraction to disturbing works. But making art out of someone else's death, I have no respect for any person who could do such a thing. Or any person who could admire such a piece. And I especially have no respect for any person who could USE a tragedy for GAIN. -No matter how you 'label' it.

I used to believe you didn't need to be in someone else's shoes to know what hurts them. But apparently for much of the current world, we do now. I will not be buying THAT trade. And I am rethinking some things now. I can't believe he would do such a thing.

Anyway, it's very much done. Everyone has their own opinion and a right to share it. That was mine. I won't touch this subject again.

Actually came to tell OPL, Twitter's character limit is evil. I cannot abide it. If I could catch a little Funshine bear (or Lionheart? He's a friend of theirs yea?) for you, they'd be boxed up and screamin in the post for you dear! I am gonna mail you tonight or tomorrow night, come hell or high water. I fucking promise. I hope your ear is doing better loves. If they made that pink bubble gum candy liquid ear-med for adults, you're life would be peaches babe. ;p Hope you feel better, you will hear from me.

Wish, sorry the meeting wasn't so helpful for you. Maybe they will get better? Or maybe they will just be a reminder of what not to be? What to avoid? Hang in there. Fingers crossed for you dear. -And Wish, absolutely valid point on the photograph (at 5:35). Thank you for that. There IS a difference. I cannot stomach cheap attempts. I'm not hanging, drop and run. But hope we do get to chat sometime Wish. Hope you are doing better?

Also Elena, will call you soon. And Ergo, have not forgot you loves. Will mail you as soon as the plans are more sure.

Love to ya ladies, thinkin of ya, hoping you are all well. <33

Wish you were here said...

Lewis, nice to hear from you, as brief as it may be, I'm sure we'll see each other around at some point :). Thank you. Are people being admiring of it? As you say, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I actually find it laughable that anyone would 'admire' them for their attempt at...I don't even know what. Except for publicity and financial gain I cannot see what they're doing it for. I can believe he did that though, Lewis, for whatever reason, obviously nobody had the good sense to say it wasn't the bast way to go. I mean, it's not even relevant to the comic, it's just an author picture...that's how he wants to be seen as an author? Good luck to him.

I'm going again tomorrow, hopefully it will be more productive and I'll get over the Twelve Steps/religon thing and just make it my own. Can but try, as they say, thank you. Hope you are well :)

Morning all.

Hi Lewis. Hi Wish. Nice to read you around these parts, Wish.

Oh dear, this is going to be very trite after Wish recalling that powerful photo

but

just dropping by to mention to sci fi/ splatter action/ appreciator of the unusual, viewers

see District 9!

It's a superb, low budget/high production quality, sci fi film: being part documentary, part conspiracy, involving alien/human segregation, splatter, dark humour, excellent acting, super action sequences, nice creature work by Weta Workshop (LOTR), and unusually thought provoking.

People just remained seated at the end - stunned.

Being honest here, the last two movies I've been to were kids flicks so that probably explained why my face was frozen in the O_O position for three hours afterwards.

See, see, see it. =)

Happy Sunday all.

Anon they may not be the first or last, but that doesn't make it right, just sad.

elena said...

Anon at 10:56

Of course they weren’t the first nor will they be the last. But just because something tasteless is done 100 times does it somehow become less offensive the 101st time? Just because something is done before doesn’t mean that gives it validation or changes its nature.

Anonymous said...

So are you saying you don't approve of Gerard's picture, Elena? Do you find it offensive? Would you tell him that to his face? I am just curious.

Anonymous said...

Mayo/Gerard, Elena doesn't approve of your "art"!

Anonymous said...

I don't believe it! Has hell frozen over? Elena has just criticized Gerard. The thing that I find most disturbing is that you will still continue to kiss Mayo's ass even though you know he is Gerard and you are pissed with him. Kapu did the same thing. She detests Gerard but will happily call Mayo her friend, despite knowing who he really is. How do the people here compartmentalize the two personas?

Anonymous said...

*waits for elena to come back in backtrack and say "that's not what I meant"*

Wish you were here said...

Anon, a lot of us have said we don't like it. although you didn't ask me personally, I would say it to his face, and lindsey's, too.

Anonymous said...

Anon it is no different with Fank/SS. Frank has shown over and over what an ass he can be, but SS drips of honey and kindness.

Anonymous said...

We don't really care what you think. It's elena that has kissed his ass for the last 2 years.

Anonymous said...

Wish, whose face? Mayo's or Gerard's?

Anonymous said...

Too true. Too fucking true.

Hearts break, arteries clog, minds race, and all heroes will eventually fail (or just grow tired of the ungrateful people they help).

*blows kiss to SS*

Anonymous said...

Mayo is going to be so sad and disappointed that Elena doesn't approve and probably a little hurt too. After toujours, Elena is Mayo's, I mean Gerard's, biggest fangirl.

Wish you were here said...

'We'? Well anon, there was no neeed to be snappy, I was merely stating a fact. If you don't care, that's no skin off my nose.

Anonymous said...

Wish,

Can I ask you something? How did you know where to find SS's blog? I'm just curious.

Wish you were here said...

11:49. Well, I have already stated my opinion of it here, so if you want to say that's to Mayo as it is his blog, then I already have.

If faced with Gerard irl and the subject came up I would say it then too. But no, I wouldn't just randomly come out with it unless it was brought up I suppose, I would probably real in unwarranted.

Wish you were here said...

elena said...

Oh anons you are amusing. Perhaps you do miss a lot. Many times I've criticized Gerard Way for things he's said or done but no one seems to remember that. Oh well, whatever.

I'm off for the day. Take care everyone.

Anonymous said...

*yawns*

Typical response from Elena.

Wish you were here said...

11:58, nobody can be expected to say or do the right thing, or be nice all of the time :)

Frank is sometimes nice and sometimes a smartass bastard. So, will the real Frank Iero please stand up? Just saying. SS doesn't even count because Frank would never admit to being SS. Ah, well, who cares anyway?

Anonymous said...

Don't you mean Frank Lero?

Wish you were here said...

Lol, anon, people can be many things at once. Are you not sometimes nice and sometimes a smartass? I know I can be. Different moods at different times doesn't necessarily mean someone isn't being real...I think I'd find it less real if Frank was always amazingly nice and chipper, y'know?

Anonymous said...

I have witnessed smart ass SS, angry SS, sarcastic SS, funny SS, kind SS, thoughtful SS, mischievous SS and lovable SS. I am actually suprised at just how many facets of his personality he has shared here. He may not be perfect, but I wouldn't change a thing about him.

I'd like to think he already knows that.

What did Canada ever do to you?

Anonymous said...

Just because something is done before doesn’t mean that gives it validation or changes its nature.

Nobody said anything like that. Nothing about validation. They pointed out that the Kennedy assassination had been used before.

Some will see the photo as offensive.
Some will see it as disgusting, opportunistic trash.
Others will see it as OMGaMaZING THE BEST PICTURE IN DA WORLD!!! just because it's a photo of GW and LynZ.

Others will come across the photo on the webz and not know who the subjects are. They will look at it from a purely artistic pov.

Some of those will like.
Some will not.

The eye of the beholder.

I think it is a great photograph.

You forgot sneaky SS anon! Sneaky SS is my fave.

Perfect people?

That's frightening.

Wish you were here said...

12:33 that exactly what makes something art or not; people's opinion.

Lol, 12:29, were you talking to me?

Anonymous said...

12:29 what do you mean about Canada? Who are you talking to?

Anonymous said...

Precisely WYWH.

Trash or treasure.

Old junk or classic.

Dated or antique.

Vulgarity or art.

Ugly or beautiful.

It's all in the eye of the beholder. :)

Wish you were here said...

Yup, 12:48 :)

Wish you were here said...

12:29, 12:44, I Wondered if it was because of my 'chipper' comment. Chipper, as in enthusiastically upbeat and happy. Not meaning anything to do with Canada. Though I'm sure I've heard the word associated with Canada in some way, that's not what I meant at all, just to clear that up.

12:48 said...

Sushi or raw fish.

Escargot or snails.

Blackened or burnt.

All a matter of tastes and opinions. :)

12:48 said...

Have a nice day WYWH.
Have a nice day blog. :)

Anonymous said...

What does chipper have to do with canada? I don't get it.

Wish you were here said...

You to, 12:48, see you :)

12:59, not sure but I think I've heard it somewhere...

Wish you were here said...

*too
Damn typos.

Burnt.......or Cajun?

Wish you were here said...

Sorry, 12:58 not 59. I need my eyes tested again, clearly.

Wish you were here said...

Lmao 1:03, sneaky reference. Like it.

Wish you were here said...

I guess it depends...if you're in the habit of actually cooking Cajun, then it's Cajun, right? If however, you're prone to burning food and calling Cajun to cover it up, then... I guess it's still burnt :P.

You hear that, Mayo? You're not Gerard Way!

Tick, tick, BOOM!

Original Punk L said...

Hey, everyone, how are you?

Furniture is moved, just need to tidy up and put a few more things away. J.'s niece came by this morning and picked up the 27" tv BY HERSELF (and this is a small women!) and put it in the entertainment center.

To put in my quarter about the JFK photo; well, it's difficult. I don't care for censorship, so I stand by the right to put things out there, but that photo is not for me. So I choose not to look at it again, or buy the book it will be in. That's my right, same as their right to put it out there.

One man's art is another man's "what the fuck is that?" Would it have been different if they had protrayed Bonnie and Clyde, or victims from another era? I have seen art (including reinactment photos and video) that depicted The Trail of Tears that seemed to place you in that moment, and rather than being offended (I'm part Cherokee) I was deeply moved. They brought out the emotions in a very powerful way.

This photo doesn't do that for me. It comes across as dress up, and the subject is touchy at best. If there had been an explanation attached as to why it was done, maybe it would have been better.

Do they owe an explanation to the public? Again, it rides a fine line. It's up to the individual how they feel.

I thought the event in the storyline of the UA Dallas series was well done. I liked the plot twists, and thought it was better than the original series. The writing was better.

Having said that, I will be back on later, and hope everyone is having a good day.

Love ya,
L.

Original Punk L said...

I told you a long time ago, Mayo is Harold Beansnapper from Iowa. Where have you been?

Mayo told us a long time ago that he wasn't Gerard. That's not an issue with us. So sorry, makes no difference. Shame they were bothering Gerard and everyone he knew about it, though.

O.M.G.

It seems it's national internet harassment week and nobody told me. I'm fuckin pissed.

What the hell is wrong with people?

Original Punk L said...

Not sure, anon. It seems to be open season.

Original Punk L said...

Rabbit Season!

Duck Season!

Mayo Season!

Gerard Season!

4 tweets is hardly harassment but you guys are the experts so if you say it is then I guess it is.

LMAO!

Anonymous said...

Mayo isn't Harold B. The DNA test debunked that theory.

Mayo is Spartacus' long lost half bother's nephew's great, great, great, great, great, great, great grandson.

Original Punk L said...

Yeah, we've been pretty much been harrassed to the point of being experts on how it feels. You're right.

Got a point?

A point? I think you know the point, OPL. In fact, I am quite positive you know the point. Now why don't you ponder on that point for a while.

*blows kisses*

Original Punk L said...

Nope, still got no idea, anon. Suppose you fill me in?

Original Punk L said...

But what is the point to one may not be the point to all, it may be the point some are looking for and some are changing, evermore, changing...

Ima guessin they do. Put on the armor. Call in the calvary. Grab the fire extinguishers. Have the fire marshall and big red engines on standby.

We need volunteers to guard the graveyard and the barn.

Original Punk L said...

Going for now, but I'll be back later. Got to finish unpacking boxes. Elena, talk to you later too. Hope you had a good day shopping with the daughter!

Ergo, the baby chick pics are adorable.

Amy, hope you are having a great time on your trip, and be safe coming back.

Mayo, S.S., Mya, Martha, TJ, B.C., Wish, Lewis, Jade, Paperheart, Anima, m., Wendy, PJ, Orkin Man, Good Tipper, various nice anons, lurkers, Harold and anyone else I missed, have a good evening!

Love ya!

What? Damn that Harold B. He promised to marry me too. Come to thinka it
he promised to marry my sister, my momma and I think he promised to marry that little gardener man that hangs round the backyard.

Dirty bastard! Where is he? Let's get 'im.

Original Punk L said...

Just an aside, anon, before I go. If the intention of what that Twit(ter) was trying to do was to get this blog shut down, they just assured the continuation of it.

See, if they shut it down, that verifies it IS Gerard, or someone in their camp who would be able to delete the account.

If they go to Blogger to have it shut down, that opens up another whole can of worms because Mayo has never pretended to be Gerard, or SAID he was Gerard. Therefore, there is no reason for anyone from MCR to have this place shut down.

It ain't Gerard, so Mayo would probably have a shit fit over someone deleting his blog for no reason.

Original Punk L said...

You too, 8:52?! Man, Harold gets around! Don't worry, I'll look around on Orbitz to get us plane tickets to Iowa.

Oh, he is gonna PAY!

Another not well thought out and poorly executed plan.

Tick, tock, BOOM!

Good OP L. Book the redeye. Less travelers and witnesses at night. I'll get the disguises and the tater sack.
We'll pick up the shovels in Iowa. Hard packin those things ya know.
Bye now.

How have you been?

Anonymous said...

How's that sofa?

Anonymous said...

Maybe it is time. Only Mayo can make that decision.

One thing I do know is that he won't allow his hand to be forced. One way or the other.

Whatever decision he makes,
Whatever his reasons are for that decision, he has my support and my gratitude.

Chin up Mayo. :)
Chin up bloggers. :)

It'll be allright.
