she really is, ergo. and i did, didn't i, elena? oops!

i actually met her through mcr -- we were on the same comms over on lj, and a bunch of us planned on meeting up at the seattle tbp show.

i was pretty nervous -- just the year before i was a married mouse, and i never would have considered going to something like that by myself, but there i was, and the first of the lj-ers in line too. i was the one who ended up rounding everyone up. cupcake-goth was the easy one to spot. :)

she and i and her friend bluejay ended up hanging out together after the show, and we all got to meet frank behind the venue. it was an amazing night!

and now she's got this book out, it's so cool, i'm so happy for her. :)

actually, what i remember most fondly from that meeting was that i got to talk to worm, and he gave me a quick "i'm-on-duty" smile. i don't know why that made me so happy that night, but it did! still makes me smile, in fact.

The only time we've met Worm was in Charlotte, when he verbally moved us along the meet-n-greet table. We HAVE gotten to meet Medhi a few times, though, and he's always been very nice to us.

Ask Elena how nice he is! :D

And of course Frank was great every time we saw him. Of course. :) They were all kind, well we didn't get to meet Mikey but the others were cool.

- They decided to watch Aliens instead, so my ears were spared. But I went upstairs and knitted for a bit anyway.

Chris#2, guitar for Anti-Flag

4/6 of ORESKABAND. I'm not sure which though. I think it was the lead singer, two trumpet players and the drummer.

The Dropkick Murphys with Scruffy Wallace, not Spicy McHaggis. (FYI, Scruffy is Canadian and a Calgarian!)

i always used to end up meeting comic book artists, and they are generally a friendly bunch of people. i remember i actually had to be the one to disengage from conversation with terry moore -- he was so nice and we were talking about art and drawing people, but there were so many people behind me in line waiting to meet him too! i still feel bad about that though. poor guy, i'm sure it still haunts him. lol

and another time i stood and talked with matthew clark for a good long while -- he was the artist for the wonder woman title at the time, and shared my views on the respect she deserved (and lacked). that was very cool!

i find that the artists are usually pretty happy to talk about their work, which i just love. i love knowing the why's and what's of their processes.

i wish you could talk to musicians like that, but there's usually no time. i did get to talk with chris from drive by about their music, that was great. :)

i always think of the fashion stuff as part of my transformation, too, even though it seems superficial. but i used to have a very strong sense of what my own personal style entailed, and over the years i've lost the knack of listening to that particular inner voice. reconnecting with that instinct is actually a core part of the whole transformation -- not so much to change what i wear, but to revitalize my reliance on what i know about who i am, in fashion, in relationships, in writing, in everything.

and the people i admire are always those who seem to have figured that out, and are living a life true to their authentic selves.

i will too. i lost it, it got buried along the way, but i'm recovering it.

Or can I still call you Bubbles? Honey, I hate to read that you're in such turmoil these days. It's hard enough being a teenager without all the added pressure you're facing. I know you know that drinking is never the best way to solve your problems; you know that, because you're a smart, responsible girl. But sometimes, it DOES help to let go and forget stuff for a while. *emphasis on SOMETIMES*

I don't know what it's like to lose a sibling; not yet, but I know it'll happen one day. I DO know what it's like to lose a parent. No matter who it is, or your relationship to them, it still hurts. Even after 21 years, I miss my daddy like I did when he first passed. But please believe me when I say it DOES get better. It takes time, lots of time, but eventually you'll find that thinking about him doesn't hurt quite as bad as it used to. The best memories will replace the worst ones. You'll think of him and smile, and maybe laugh about something he used to do. You'll show his picture to people who never met him and say, Hey, that's my brother, did I tell you about him? And then you will, and everything you say will be positive, and you'll talk about him for the longest time.

And you'll see him again, no doubt on that. He'll be waiting. You know he's still looking out for you, sending you his love and strength. You may not always know, but he's there. Used to, when I would visit the cemetery right after my dad passed, I would talk to him, and every time the wind blew, I felt like it was him "talking" to me. It's very comforting.

I didn't mean to write an epic saga to you, Bubbles, I just got carried away. I hope you'll want to come back and talk with us, when you feel you can. We love you and miss you. Take care.

Mayo

A couple of things happened today that have me feeling very confused and I guess really sad. The first happened in the grocery store. Mom was in the cereal aisle (yep you know why) and I had gone to pick up some Starbucks. When I walked up to her I noticed she was talking to a little girl who was sitting in her mom’s shopping cart. The girl was probably about three and very cute. And man, was that kid a talker. She was pointing to the candy across the way and telling my mom what kind she liked. When I got closer she started talking to me. Her first question was “What is your name?” So I told her. Well then she really started chatting. It was so cute. After a while her mom just smiled and said that she talked like that all the time and that she could talk anyone’s ear off. I do believe she could. As we started to walk away I told her goodbye but she wasn’t done talking. She kept calling to me even as I prepared to round the next aisle. I waved goodbye, moved on and still she kept calling out my name. I just laughed. I went on down a ways, got to the end of the aisle but realized I’d forgotten something so I turned around. It was then I heard two women talking. They were saying in very nasty tones that I should never have told that child my name because she kept calling it out. I have to admit I was shocked. I just didn’t see why that was a big deal. So I pretended to move away but I could still hear them. They were just horrified “that everyone” knew that woman’s name. Okay to me this is just really stupidly paranoid. I thought when the hell did the world change like this? Have we suddenly become so afraid that people feel it’s necessary to hide who they are? So what if that little girl knew my name? She told me hers. But then something else happened a little later on in the day. I got a call from one of my daughters. She asked me if I’d seen something on the news. It was a story about intruders who had broken into an apartment. The grandma was watching a baby and they broke in, slit her throat (she survived) and took the baby. Then they threw the baby in a dumpster. Thank God someone heard the baby crying and it is okay. What made this hit home a bit more than usual is the fact that the baby is the cousin to my daughter’s boyfriend. Needless to say she was shocked when her boyfriend called and told her. So I guess I feel sorta torn. Yeah, I know there is such evil in the world. I preach to my girls all the time to be careful. But at the same time I don’t want them to live in fear. Do you know what I mean? The world can be a very scary place but if you always look at it like that then what kind of life do you really have? I just don’t know.

Anyway, I hope your day was good. And yeah, I hope tomorrow is even better. Holy crap if I got my wish just think how great each day would be for you. Each one would be a bit better than the one before. Damn, you would have the perfect life. And you know what? I know no ones life is perfect but I do hope yours is damn good.

Mayo and SS always gave the porchies lots of attention. The others thought that with the porchies gone, they would get the attaention Mayo used to lavish on them by default. But they didn't. That must burn. The porchies are gone and the others aren't getting any more attention. In fact, they are probably getting less. At least Mayo used to come round more when the porchies were here.

i am trying to find a composition book with college ruled pages. can you believe how rare they are? but i just can't stand the wide rule, it's such a waste.

i've got a couple of research projects i'm working on, you see, and dammitall if those composition books wouldn't be the perfect things to keep all my gleanings together! i was just going to pick up some cheap spiral-bound notebooks, then i saw the composition books and now that's all that will do...if i can only find the damn things with the proper ruling!

sometimes the details get a bit distracting, and then i'm alice chasing after the white rabbit (strictly in a non-60's-drug-referencing sort-of-way, you understand).

but oh! how nice it will be to have a little cardboard-bound book to take notes in.

i'm still a complete sucker for school suppiles. *grin*

I polished up 4 silver plated goblets I bought, for $1 each

lady said they were likely from the 1950's. they are still damaged on some bits but I will use them to take to BBQ's and stuff, look very special lol

It was a glorious day for a ride. There was sunshine with a temp just hovering around 80. For hours we rode and I let my mind wander. There is nothing like the sun on your face and the wind blowing through your hair to set your mind free. Oh and when we would hit a stretch of road that was tree lined the temp would dip and it felt almost cold. It’s amazing how on a bike you can feel so much. And smell so much too. We passed by a man and his smoker. He was making ribs! The smell of fresh cut grass, brome in the field, wildflowers, it’s all great. Well except for road kill LOL And through it all I just let my mind wander to any happy place that it chose. Yep, I didn’t think about all the problems lurking, they were left behind. I needed to do that. You can only dwell so long before you get sucked into the despair. Besides allowing myself this time, free from worry, recharged my batteries, I think. Somehow it gave me some much-needed strength. Even Flighty’s call when we stopped in Oskaloosa for lunch didn’t make me cringe like it normally would. Oh my, that girl is full of drama. LOL. But she did sing her first gig with the band that recently hired her and it was great to hear how well that went. See I just put the good part of her call before the bad part. That is a good sign. I’m convinced the motorcycle ride helped.

Mayo I hope you take time to recharge your batteries. Just relax, let your mind wander to a happy place for a bit. Take care and remember you are always in my thoughts.

We just got back from the coast a couple of hours ago. It was our Dad's anniversary weekend. We had a nice time remembering and stuffing our faces and it's nice to be home but we are knackered. We got some nice rocks for his grave, we like to collect some on the beach.

Today a huge seagull swooped down and knicked my fish. I had to get another cos you gotta have fish with your chips at the coast.

great movie to see if you haven't is The Dish, about those guys, a bit of cinematic licence but close to reality,fact vs fiction to see where they adjusted reality, but things like they stayed pointing into 100km/hr winds (when they normally stop at 35 km/hr) to keep the signal.

You just made me think of something. There are religous overtones to this blog and the regulars here are very religious for the most part. The religion seems to carry over to worship of Mayo, SS and MCR (who they think are all the same anyway). The cry of "SHUN, TOTALLY SHUN, SHUN" made me think of Mary Magdelene.

It's like the people here go on a rampage against one person and would stone her if they really could. (The lost job, the invasion of privacy, the blog stalking).

Except they know that their "Jesus" (Mayo) doesn't approve of stoning her.

I actually know someone sort of liek her in real life. She does a shit ton of many different activities and she is very passionate about them all. She wants to share everything she does and she tries to "rally" her friends and get them into her "joie de vivre" too.

Sometimes it's fun and sometimes I do join her in her things that she does but it CAN be tiring. People can't keep up with her.

She doesn't do it on purpose but it's like she's a natural crack addict LOL. But she is one of my friends and that's what Kapu reminds me of. Some people don't like that though.
