They said you said what I said to you

Your subtlety lacks finesse. Either it is, or it isn’t.

And, we know it is.

But it is incomplete, isn’t it. What is it that was left out or held back?

Well, let me remind you.

Fear at all hours of the day and night. And, I couldn’t breathe without suggesting abandon, so I suffocated from repression. Then, managing the never ending time spent attempting to quell your irrational needs killed me. It was never enough, the time, the attention, the truth, so I finally caved. Yet, the debate continued. And, you couldn’t stop me or make me change my mind, and that infuriated you. But, instead of pushing so hard you would have been better off just killing time.

But, I relent and you suffer delusion and sometimes it was the other way around.

It was like this; there, assembled from misery, denial and frustration, we produced an alternate reality. Can we just admit that it was unnatural? Not quite forced, but awfully close. If so, then we’ll leave it at that.

In the end, it was finished. I’m surprised we held out as long as we did.

And yes, “it was grand, and we have the pictures to prove it.”

Now it’s just shit and we are both shoveling.

Good Morning!

I have no idea why I'm up so fucking early! I must be sick...

SDock, I always wanted an alarm clock that would scream, "Get the fuck up, you lazy bitch!", but I haven't been able to find one...

Also, may I suggest a few things that may help you get through your workdays? They may sound trivial, but I always found that them helpful me.

One is to walk during your breaks. Walking is great exercise and can help your mood greatly!

The other is: Every hour, on the hour, just remind yourself, "They just paid me $ for that shit." That one helps the most, I think!

Also, it's a year since Calaf became Calaf on here. I don't know why that date sticks out in my mind but it does. ^_^

Well, I have lots to do today, one of which is getting the dogs to the vet for their shots and stuff. Fun. >_<

But I'll be popping in and out of here once I'm done shopping and whatever else it was I had to do today.

This has nothing to do with John McCain. He won't get to be president no matter what the supreme court decides. The most likely to be named president would be Biden. He would then have to appoint a new vice president.

Here's the made up story about the imaginary lawsuits.

At this point, Supreme Court Justice David Souter’s Clerk informed Philip J. Berg, the lawyer who brought the case against Obama, that his petition for an injunction to stay the November 4th election was denied, but the Clerk also required the defendants to respond to the Writ of Certiorari (which requires the concurrence of four Justices) by December 1. At that time, Mr. Obama must present to the Court an authentic birth certificate, after which Mr. Berg will respond.

If Obama fails to do that, it is sure to inspire the skepticism of the Justices, who are unaccustomed to being defied. They will have to decide what to do about a president-elect who refuses to prove his natural-born citizenship.

“I can see a unanimous Court (en banc) decertifying the election if Obama refuses to produce his birth certificate,” says Raymond S. Kraft, an attorney and writer. “They cannot do otherwise without abandoning all credibility as guardians of the Constitution. Even the most liberal justices, however loathe they may to do this, still consider themselves guardians of the Constitution. The Court is very jealous of its power - even over presidents, even over presidents-elect.”

Also remember that on December 13, the Electoral College meets to casts its votes. If it has been determined that Mr. Obama is an illegal alien and therefore ineligible to become President of the United States, the Electors will be duty-bound to honor the Constitution.

Just when you thought it was safe to turn on the TV......

It took some weeks to settle the ultimately irrelevant and immaterial question of whether Arizona Sen. John McCain, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, was eligible to become president. Irrelevant and immaterial because, should McCain win the election, can you imagine the courts invalidating his triumph by declaring him constitutionally ineligible to hold the office to which he had just been elected? Been down that road, as I recall.

Nevertheless, senators from both parties (Patrick Leahy and Tom Coburn) and constitutional scholars of the left and right (Lawrence Tribe and Theodore Olsen) examined the law and the facts and announced that McCain, who was born to American parents in a U.S. naval hospital in the U.S.-administered Panama Canal Zone, met the Second Amendment's requirement that a president must be a "natural-born citizen."

The Constitution doesn't define "natural-born citizen;" as generations of jurists have pointed out, much of that document's brilliance lies in its ambiguity. But a little research showed that the question had actually been asked and answered way back in 1790, when the very first Congress passed a statute declaring that "the children of citizens of the United States, that may be borne beyond sea, or out of the limits of the United States, shall be considered as natural-born citizens of the United States." The Senate unanimously passed a resolution recognizing that "John Sidney McCain III is a natural-born citizen." On to more important things.

Or so we thought.

Now making the Internet rounds is a posting questioning whether McCain's presumptive Democratic opponent, Illinois Sen. Barack Obama is a natural-born citizen and therefore constitutionally qualified to be president. I suppose it was only a matter of time.

Anyway, this particular post, whose authorship is unclear, suggests that Obama is "not legally a U.S. natural-born citizen under to the law on the books at the time of his birth...". According to the poster, if only one parent was a U.S. citizen at the time of birth, the citizen-parent "must have resided in the United States for at least ten years, at least five of which had to be after the age of 16." Obama's father, of course, was not an American citizen, having been born in Kenya. That leaves his mother, who was a natural-born citizen, but who was only 18 when Obama was born, on August 4, 1961. In the poster's opinion, Obama fails the constitutional test because his citizen-mother had not resided in the U.S. for five years after the age of 16--not old enough, at the time of Obama's birth, "to qualify her son for automatic U.S. citizenship."

Now pay strict attention, because I'm only going to explain this once: Is Barack Obama a natural-born citizen of the United States and therefore eligible to become president? The answer is yes, according to Ron Gotcher, a noted California immigration lawyer and The Swamp's resident expert on presidential eligibility.

"The poster's confusion," Gotcher writes, "is over the concepts of jus sanguinis and jus soli." Under jus sanguinis, a person's citizenship is transmitted "by the blood" - by inheritance from his or her parents or grandparents. In the United States, we recognize citizenship through parentage in a number of cases.

But it is not necessary to look to the statutes that deal with citizenship through jus sanguinis, since Senator Obama's citizenship derives from jus soli - citizenship through place of birth.

According to Gotcher, "The Fourteenth Amendment commands that "[a]ll persons born or naturalized in the United States , and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the state wherein they reside."

"This was clarified by the Civil Rights Act of April 9, 1866, which provided that 'All persons born in the United States and not subject to any foreign power are declared to be citizens of the United States.'"

"Senator Obama was born in the State of Hawaii two years after it became a state on Aug.21, 1959 As such, he acquired United States citizenship automatically at birth. While it is not necessary to go into all of the other legal errors contained in the posting (and there are many), the simple fact is that, with rare exceptions (children of diplomats), everyone born in the United States is a citizen of the United States at birth."

But what about the age of Obama's mother? Remember jus soli--citizenship through place of birth? (c'mon--there IS going to be a quiz). In that case--which happens to be Obama's case--the age of the parents has nothing to do with anything. Under jus soli even the children of illegal aliens are U.S. citizens at birth--just ask the pregnant women from Mexico near the end of their third trimester who try to sneak across the border in hopes their child will be born in a San Diego hospital and leave with a U.S. birth certificate clutched in his or her tiny hand.

Except for the children of diplomats, every child born in the U.S. is a natural-born U.S. citizen, period. The parents could be citizens themselves, could be from France, could be Coneheads. Nothing else matters. Only if the child is born OUTSIDE the United States to one citizen-parent does the issue of the parents' age, citizenship, or whatever, come into play.

"All that matters is that the child is born here, " Gotcher says. "This is the reason that you are hearing so much fuss in Congress about changing the law that grants 'birthright citizenship.'" But even such a law, however unlikely to pass, would not be retroactive. If Barack Obama wins the presidential election he can begin choosing the furniture for the Oval Office without watching for immigration agents over his shoulder

I don't think anything will happen. Because if Obama couldn't run for president the Republican party would have already used that fact and he wouldn't have run in the first place.


That is an internet rumor that some people have taken a hold of and run with. They tried to do the same thing with McCain.

I agree with thte validity, if wit was easy to find out it would have been used long before, and is it easy to file lawsuits over there? It just seems to be from hearing about people suing over really silly things we hear about

but in a similar vein to the suggested TODD from an outside perspective, Obabma has promised a lot, and has a huge expectation upon him, I wonder how long it would take people to turn if it wasn't seen to happen as quickly as they wish after he takes his place as president.
People can be awfully impatient and fickle these days

oh an have to say it hardly seems 30 years since JonesTown it was a horrific thing, and imagining what it was like is deeply disturbing
I cannot see why people would ever do that, but that is the nature of fanaticism I suppose

It's also the anniversary of the HMAS SYdney sinking off aust in the 2nd World War losing all hands, it's actual wreck was only discovered last year and explored this year. Worst wartime loss for our country.

perhaps that is because we are not directly involved anon, I think people become very invested in it, when it is your own country. I don't blame them, it's a very delicate political time, and there are so many problems and he seems to be the possible solution. I just hope he IS able to make the positive changes he promised and that the pressure doesn't become overwhelming.
I could see it being a huge upheaval if anything of that kind occurred prior to or during his term

Oh, so anyway I just got back from the vet's and Sano has an anal gland infection, YAY! He absolutely sprayed the poor vet when she was poking around up there trying to see what was going on. I felt so bad. He didn't mean to do it; she just had her face right there. NOT fun, I can tell you from experience.

Well, they both are caught up on their shots and I have to watch Haku now because last year he had a really bad reaction to his shots. This could, of course, because I was taking him to The Bad Place (the hospital where I used to work) and they used really cheap vaccs and gave them to him all at once. And then laughed about him having an allergic reaction.

Yeah, I don't miss that place at all.

Re: the vet, oh man, that was ugly. I felt so bad; it got in her hair and all. That stuff can shoot far.

As for voting, the only really good reason for me to vote for someone is if he or she is going to accomplish things that I think are going to bring about the most good--and in some cases, the least harm. It doesn't change my opinion of they are black, white, purple or some combination thereof. I don't care where they came from, and, to some extent (outside of how it might have changed them as a person in the present,) I don't care about what they did in the past, either.

My only concerns in any of the elections since I've been old enough to vote was who I thought was going to do the best job at preserving human rights, equal rights for all, taking care of the planet, and basically ensuring life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness and health and health care and equality. I like a candidate who is going to be good with foreign policy. My idea 'f "good" with foreign policy differs from others' ones, because I like a more intellectual and calm approach over unilateral jingoism and / or aggression.

And I also fully own that I don't get the whole "flag waving / patriotism" thing. I know that's an unpopular way to feel and always has been and probably always will be, the world over. But I don't feel any different, or special, or proud, because I was born in this place instead of a different place. But, that's just me.

Wow! What a crazy week. A new president-elect in Mr. Obama, fire storms in Los Angeles, the absurd $30-million EMI lawsuit alive and well, Kanye-gate, and not one but TWO MTV Awards!

Kanye, I still love you.

And thank you, but no apology necessary, although I'm sure it's appreciated by the fans who voted.

I also happen to think its pretty fucking crazy 30 Seconds to Mars actually beat out METALLICA for an MTV award. We never in million years thought that could or would happen. But this award was voted for by the fans themselves and who are we to argue with them (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ImiSdAeuEMs).

The second award we won that night was for an environmentally themed video that took the band halfway around the world, ending up 200 miles north of the ARCTIC CIRCLE where we shot on ICEBERGS AND GLACIERS, something which had never been done before in a vid and I highly recommend is never attempted again (unless you like frostbite, bottomless back breaking crevasses, and cool dips in deadly icy seawater...). For us, going to the Arctic was reward enough. Getting an award for it is absolutely INSANE (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O2DeqMLBNAU&feature=related). Sadly, I guess it's Global Warming's year.

We have said before that we doubt we would ever win any award at all were it not for the amazing fans we have around the world that are often allowed to participate and vote for us. It was nice to be proven wrong and to be given the award for A Beautiful Lie (http://abeautifullie.org/video_abl.aspx), which was not fan-voted.

That video changed our lives and also allowed us the excuse to launch www.abeautifullie.org. If you haven't been yet, come visit us sometime.

Overall, awards are great fun but they really say more about our fans than the band itself. It's a chance to celebrate and to thank everyone who has supported us so passionately and all those who have worked so hard on our behalf.

I love that Kanye speaks his mind. It's refreshing to see that freedom and bravery in a day where one can be condemned so quickly for what is said. And I think it says a lot about him that he apologized and did it with such humor and charm.

You're a total gentleman Mr. West. I'll call you later...

P.S. After the awards that night we went out to celebrate and I ended up spending some time with Kanye, who I've always found really interesting and smart. He told me how much he enjoyed the video for ABL and the one with the "karate" (FY). I thought you guys would appreciate that as much as I did. :)

He was so upset, you could tell, but he was still as nice as could be to me that night. I'll always have a soft spot for him.

Sewing is lots of fun, too. I have my granddad's old sewing kit and I use it to this day.

Mya, here is some info on wintering caladiums.

I'm reading this fascinating thing my chiropractor told me about this morning, the Winsor autopsies. In 1921 this doctor did a ton of autopsies and he specifically looked at the nerves coming from the spinal column. Out of 221 autopsies, in 212 of them he found that whatever disease had killed the person, the nerve segment leading to that organ was twisted or shredded.

That's why I tell everyone to go to the damn chiropractor no matter what! It's not just about your back, but your whole body.

Solly, that's true. You get "addicted" to good health. Once your out of whack, you know it right away and you can feel the little changes that start going on. But I think it's better to be aware of those things so that you can take measures to fix them. :)
