Cereal monogamy

On the front porch
Laughing and crying all at once
She has no idea the vodka belongs on the shelf
Orange juice beside the milk

It is the same front porch
That whispered baseball calls
To my bedroom window
As I peered down enticed

In time, now stumbling forward
Often infused by the same mixture
I recall her laughter was not quite right
And mine often sounds the same

From the front porch I forgive
As any good lesson I read
And now in her face reflected
The moment that I returned

p.s. in the never-ending battle to match wits.

carrie the cane is ok but the mill smells when it's crushed and one of the wastes we get, called dunder reeks

Say what?

toujours said...

hi carrie. :)

she's good! we went and picked her up today and took her home, helped her get everything settled (i had to feed the kittens....*heavy put-upon sigh* lol).

she's supposed to take it easy for a wek or so, so i'll be doing fetch and carry for her in the afternoons (more kitten duties...when will it ever end? *grin*)

TJ, I spent the better part of my day trying to ascertain the genders. Girls are going to my sis in laws farm, boys to an animal shelter. This is all assuming I can catch them. I would love to keep them as outside cats, but I can't in all conscience not have them neutered, and that is just not in the budget right now.

Anonymous said...

12:33 are you the self appointed keeper of the blog?

Original Punk J said...

Getting colder here, too, TJ, but only for a couple days this week...then HOT AGAIN! I feel so sorry for you having to take care of those wiggly kits.

Amy, you have "Adolescent Cat Watch"? I have "Senior Feline Patrol". Except they're not slowing down, they're speeding up. O_o

Carrie said...

Annie leaves for camp tomorrow, it's supposed to be cold and rainy. I hope everyone brings cards or board games.

Anonymous said...

No I just know things are better the way they are now and I call it like I see it. I'm not the only one so don't point the finger at me.

toujours said...

but amyranth, better adolescent cats than adolescents, right?

carrie, my sister's kittens are all from a stray they took in when they discovered she was pregnant. they've found homes for three, and those are homes that will neuter them. it's too hard on the cats and the cat populations otherwise. *sigh*

Anonymous said...

Goodnight dickweed, sugarplum.

Thanks J.

Amyranth said...

J, mine are too smart for their own good. Worse than teenagers. If they had opposable thumbs, and I had car keys, I'd be a damn sight crankier in the morning.

"What happened to you? You look like hell!"

"I had to bail the cats out of Animal Services, at 2 am this morning."

Carrie said...

Anon, honestly? Why did it sound like me? I get confused, and accused a lot of things I don't do. As far as I know, my biggest sin is this--comma, comma, comma. But really, if someone wanted to sound like me? They could just put a lot of question marks and commas in and call it a day. I really just want to be able to talk to people I identify with, that's all. No agenda, nothing.

Anonymous said...

You're only calling it from your point of view. Some agree, some don't.

You appear to have a personal vendetta against them. For what reason I have no idea.

ergoproxy said...

We had a stray when I was a teen, she had 2 older kittens and was preggers, they were so cute, she used to bring them up inside (she had them under our house in a storeroom)and have a play then take them one by one back down, they all found homes and she and the 2 older stayed with us for the rest of their lives

Anonymous said...

Hey TJ

amyranth, if they had opposable thumbs and car keys, we would be the ones eating out of the tuna can on the floor.

still want one though. :/

And that shit is pricey! I'm just hoping that I'm wrong and they are all girls and they can all go to the farm and everyone will be happy.

Amyranth said...

Teej, you know, I agree. Yes, you can find dogs that are happy in smaller settings, even large breed, but more often than not, it's because they're past the puppy stage. In a lot of cases, it's because they have hip dysplasia, or another problem that makes it hard for the get-up-n-go.

Harley had bad hips, and a bad heart from birth. By the time he was 4, he limped. When he was 6, we were told that his heart could go anytime. We made sure he took it easy. A quick walk around the block and he'd come home exhausted. He wouldn't have done well on a farm, in my opinion, so to be in the city, with a medium backyard, a sunny patio, and nice grass... well, he lucked out.

But he's the exception, not the rule. Very hard to get people to understand that.

J what's wrong?

Anonymous said...

toujours said...

i'm glad he had such a lovely hme, amyranth. :)

the other thing with dogs is that because of breeding, there are personality traits specific to a breed. people who are looking for a dog should take that into consideration...a dog that by its breeding needs to be in a close-knit pack environment is going to be miserable alone in a house with a person who is gone at work all day.

it's a bit more potluck with cats. you have to let them pick you out, rather than the opposite. ;)

You talk like Marlene Dietrich
And you dance like Zizi Jeanmaire
Your clothes are all made by Balmain
And there's diamonds and pearls in your hair

You live in a fancy appartement
Of the Boulevard of St. Michel
Where you keep your Rolling Stones records
And a friend of Sacha Distel

But where do you go to my lovely
When you're alone in your bed
Tell me the thoughts that surround you
I want to look inside your head

I've seen all your qualifications
You got from the Sorbonne
And the painting you stole from Picasso
Your loveliness goes on and on, yes it does

When you go on your summer vacation
You go to Juan-les-Pines
With your carefully designed topless swimsuit
You get an even suntan, on your back and on your legs

When the snow falls you're found in St. Moritz
With the others of the jet-set
And you sip your Napoleon Brandy
But you never get your lips wet

But where do you go to my lovely
When you're alone in your bed
Tell me the thoughts that surround you
I want to look inside your head, yes I do

Your name is heard in high places
You know the Aga Khan
He sent you a racehorse for chistmas
And you keep it just for fun, for a laugh haha

They say that when you get married
It'll be to a millionaire
But they don't realize where you came from
And I wonder if they really care, they give a damn

But where do you go to my lovely
When you're alone in your bed
Tell me the thoughts that surround you
I want to look inside your head

I remember the back streets of Naples
Two children begging in rags
Both touched with a burning ambition
To shake off their lowly brown tags, yes they try

So look into my face Marie-Claire
And remember just who you are
Then go and forget me forever
'Cause I know you still bear
the scar, deep inside, yes you do

I know where you go to my lovely
When you're alone in your bed
I know the thoughts that surround you
'Cause I can look inside your head

toujours said...

mayo,

i'm glad to see fimble's words up there, and i'm glad to know that you also lurk out on the porch.

i used to refer to everyone here as my "blogsibs", and it's funny, but in a way that's even truer now, considering the way my little sister and i fought with each other growing up. *grin*

it doesn't change the essential fact that somehow we were all brought here and bound here. i still see that magic in this place, even though sometimes i have to look closely and with my heart's eye. but it's there.

fimble's story and your posting of it also brought to mind something i read today in that fantasy series i'm (still!) working my way through, the one that takes place in an alternate early medieval europe.

one of the main characters is having a discussion with a cleric about the nature of evil:

"It is true that some evils fall upon us without warning or cause. Yet so many of the evils that plague us we bring about by our own actions. Why should we blame God? Surely God weep to see their children act against what is natural and right. So the blessed Daisan would say. So Count Lavastine said. We aren't made guilty by those things that lie outside our power, but we aren't justified by them either. Evil is the work of the Enemy. It is easier to do what is right."

"Think you so, my lord? It seems to me that humankind have in them a creeping, sniggering impulse to do what is wrong."

"Yet none say it is right. Those who do wrong make excuses and tell stories to excuse themselves or even blame their folly on God, but their hearts are not free of guilt. That guilt drives a man to do worse things, out of pain and fear. It is a hard road to walk and more difficult still to turn back once you've begun the journey."

(kate elliot, in the ruins)

we always know when we've strayed away from our center, and when we act from that grounded place, what we do shines, even if only we feel its glow.

thank you for doing the right thing. thank you for staying grounded. you really are the heart and center of blogbelieve, mayo.

sweet dreams to you, my friend.

All adown the pale blue mantle of the mountains far away
Stream the tresses of the twilight flying in the wake of day.
Night comes; soon alone shall fancy follow sadly in her flight
Where the fiery dust of evening, shaken from the feet of light,
Thrusts its monstrous barriers between the pure, the good, the true,
That our weeping eyes may strain for, but shall never after view.
Only yester eve I watched with heart at rest the nebulæ
Looming far within the shadowy shining of the Milky Way;
Finding in the stillness joy and hope for all the sons of men;
Now what silent anguish fills a night more beautiful than then:
For earth’s age of pain has come, and all her sister planets weep,
Thinking of her fires of morning passing into dreamless sleep.
In this cycle of great sorrow for the moments that we last
We too shall be linked by weeping to the greatness of her past:
But the coming race shall know not, and the fount of tears shall dry,
And the arid heart of man be arid as the desert sky.
So within my mind the darkness dawned, and round me everywhere
Hope departed with the twilight, leaving only dumb despair.

The Dawn of Darkness

SPLAT!!!!

Well, I never heard it before, but it sounds uncommon nonsense.

Trying to comprehend, trying to offer assistance is unwarranted and unwanted. Sadly I hear the voice and now fall silent.

anon, I choose, and I shall continue to choose until I decide otherwise
Unless mayo deploys some futuristic mind controlling internet tractor beam..

*wonders about that humming the computer makes*

Ergo, that was my point. You all have free will.

However so many anons have this premise that Mayo = GW, hence obsessive, deluded, old fangirl bloggers they are always vieing for attention.

i don't know what alicia said. whatever she said
it is probably true.
bye alicia

How could you know what she said is true if you haven't even read it?

'll make a prediction right now. In the morning you will see Kapunua, Sdock10, Smoke, and Mustard back on here. It was never about the anons, it was all about making Mayo do something to show that he approved of them.

I honestly thought you were smarter than that, Mayo. I thought maybe you were beginning to see through the lies and manipulations. I was wrong.

If these were your posts Alicia. I don't agree with you. And I do not favor anyone here.

I see certain things too, but I choose to concentrate on the more positive aspects.

Everybody wants validation. Some will outwardly seek it and others are quiet yet still crave acknowledgment.

Maybe you were trying to say he needs to employ some boundaries.

Everyone deserves to be treated with respect.

ergoproxy said...

anon I don't think they were alicia, from past examples she only ever posts the one comment

I think everyone wants validation, like you said, some more outwardly than others.
Concentrating on the positives is a good thing to do, but it never makes negatives go away, and again some people react more outwardly than others.
It's a fine balancing act, and if everyone was treated with and treated others with respect it would sure be a lot easier
and I just mean in the world in general, not here specifically

Agreed Ergo. It is a fine balancing act, everyone is an individual, and with so many on a blog there are bound to be difficulties in communication styles.

Alicia or Alice? In wonderland that is.

ergoproxy said...

that is for sure anon, communication is always at the heart of things.

I don't think alicia is in wonderland, though it seems like it would be a lovely place to visit :)

IT'S WAR! Another religious one, at that!

A Catholic Priest says

A Presbyterian Minister, from across the street, replies

The Catholic Priest responds with

The Presbyterian Minister than says

The Priest still insists he is correct and suggests a meeting

The Minister thinks the Priest is trying to convert his congregation and denounces magic

The Priest seems to like magic and has a sense of humor

The Minister shows a bit of attitude and does not rock

The Priest refuses to surrender and rocks on

And, we all live to fight another day!

*no rocks, dogs, priests or ministers were hurt in the making of this morning's ponderings*

*hopes no one was offended*
*apologies if anyone was*

Picture's courtesy of a family friend, Mr. Sammy!

Have a great day, everyone!!!!
