Your obituary won't mention you have a huge house and a plasma t.v.

My Grandma used to say "You only get so many words when you're born and once you've used them up...that's it."

She said the same thing about steps too.

"Once they're gone you don't get anymore."

Words and steps, I think she meant that they are the measure of a life.

She was a cool lady.

p.s. and in those last few moments they won't occur to you either.

Thank you BI

That was a beautiful ramble. I could see myself in a lot of what you said.

Hey K or Weaver Girl.

Hello to all, good day to you
I'm bored, with nothing else to do
but rhyming; well, what else is new?

Forgive me my shortness
if I seem noncommittal
can anyone here take a stab a the riddle?

I am always up for stabbing things.

In the east and the south where the tall grasses sway
I sleep and I stretch and I run and I prey
the largest and strongest of all felidae

When I open my eyes, it's best that you flee
for my gleaming white teeth are the last things you'll see...
Ask yourself: did he who made the lamb make me?

Depending on its subject and form, a poem can stimulate our imaginations, make us laugh, invite us to join in with "repeated" words and refrains, touch deep feelings, and remind us of similar people, places, events, and experiences.
Repetition of a sound, syllable, word, phrase, line, stanza, or metrical pattern is a basic unifying device in all poetry. Repetition creates patterns.If you repeat the same word or line over and over again, the reader will assume that it has significance.

I had a feeling it was you,
for your grammar gives you away.
It's good to read you, my friend.
Will you continue to play?

Anonymous said...

Well played, Elena! Brava!

In the night my prey I win,
I stalk to feed my kits and kin
but in the day, I sleep within

In darkness yet my eyes will shine
in eastern lands I'm quite divine
Are my tails one, or are they nine?

Who do you think I am?

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said...

Tiger tiger, burning bright!

Anonymous said...

perhaps you didn't guess the rhyme
but you're still here: I checked the time.

Anonymous said...

Bravo or brava, 2:50! Tiger indeed, actually, but lion and cat also work. The next one is harder, I think?

Anonymous said...

Tiger, tiger!
Burning brightly, in the forest of the night.

Set to music, it's amazing.

Hey, Jules, Elena, Anons. :)

Apologies for the extended absence.

Anonymous said...

Oh, wait! I won't put the next one till someone gets 2:47.

Anonymous said...

Hi Splash, and welcome back! *hugs like mad* Guess, guess! ^_^

Anonymous said...

No one would guess 2:47. I would know. Carry on...

Anonymous said...

Please stay a while, don't go so fast! I've truly saved the best for last! The busy days, the ticking clocks... I'll give it up! The answer's "fox."

Anonymous said...

No worries, Splash. You're here and it's all good. yes, 3:01, foxfire, the kistune-bi! It doesn't matter how you got it.

Okay, for the next one, think along the same uhh, vulpine lines. ;)

In slender arms alive I clutch my prey
in summer months, a love for me to hold
one that I know I surely must betray
and in the sun my story will be told

Yet still they dare, for nature makes them bold
for me they dance, eternal sunshine sway
my shining eyes their deadly limbs behold
In slender arms arms alive I clutch my prey

Though through my will I lead them all astray
and through my will eternally they fold
the culmination of the grand display
in summer months, a love for me to hold

I barely asked and never have cajoled
in fact my jaws my deadliness convey
I know my love, I know his taste of old,
one that I know I surely must betray

And though my hands appear to often pray
my jaws are hungry, eyes are sharp and cold
my hunger fed, my children on the way
and in the sun my story will be told

The days are shorter, nights are growing cold
my precious clutch among the leaves' decay
and nymphs in spring, my life a thousandfold
the tale is carried to another day
in slender arms

Elena, I'm so psyched you got the X Files DVDs. Season 2 is when Krycek comes in. It's a really good season. ^_^

Who, snap! Splash got it right away! You win the prize. :) Was it any good? Did you like it?

Anonymous said...

a praying mantis?

Anonymous said...

Well done, 3:11 also!

Anonymous said...

I envy people that can do this. It blows me away that so many have the ability to take one seemingly insignificant object, event, what have you, and tell a story. I can't wrap my head around it.

Props. :)

but when that beast tries to take flight it is then you will have wished those wings were clipped
as you will find yourself in one sorry plight

who am i?

Anonymous said...

Thank you, Splash. :D Your opinion is dear to me. The thing is, I can make up riddles, but I am not good at solving them. That's cheating, I guess. I always know the answer to my own ones. ;D

Anonymous said...

I want to say turkey vultures, 3:15, though the "laughing" makes me think of hyenas. Err, but they don't fly.

Anonymous said...

Nope, nope, scratch that, I'm sorry. "Prey" involves predation and vultures are scavengers, not predators. I fail! Sorry! TOld you I was no good at this.

Anonymous said...

2:47 I guessed somewhere else.

Anonymous said...

Man, 3:15, I have no idea.

Anonymous said...

3:15..... Mayo?

Anonymous said...

You are good at riddles K
if you can write them you can solve them

Anonymous said...

I also wish to say that the whole "looking glass milk" / dimensional / chemical research thing is superfly. I didn't realize there was such a thing till I googled "looking glass milk" with "flaws" and, wow, neat.

I thought about writing one about mustard, but the only thing I could think of that mustard did was make you pucker, and there's only one word that rhymes with 'pucker,' so, you know. It's whatever.

But, it would have been really funny. It would have made you laugh uncontrollably for sure. ;)

farawaysoclose said...

Elvis Costello is on now.

Hi FASC!

Oh damn! I've renamed the band. Not sure they would be to happy about that.

Muwahaha.

Anonymous said...

Hi FASC!

So, what-say, are you "mayonnaise" as I guessed? ^_^

Anonymous said...

Splash! Why, you could rhyme it to sucker, too you know!

Anonymous said...

Well, there was 'sucker.' Forgot about that.

Fucker and sucker and pucker.

I'll run that by Sdock for our band name.

The second you got with ease.

On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of colitas, rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim
I had to stop for the night
There she stood in the doorway;
I heard the mission bell
And I was thinking to myself,
’this could be heaven or this could be hell’
Then she lit up a candle and she showed me the way
There were voices down the corridor,
I thought I heard them say...

Welcome to the hotel california
Such a lovely place
Such a lovely face
Plenty of room at the hotel california
Any time of year, you can find it here

Her mind is tiffany-twisted, she got the mercedes bends
She got a lot of pretty, pretty boys, that she calls friends
How they dance in the courtyard, sweet summer sweat.
Some dance to remember, some dance to forget

So I called up the captain,
’please bring me my wine’
He said, ’we haven’t had that spirit here since nineteen sixty nine’
And still those voices are calling from far away,
Wake you up in the middle of the night
Just to hear them say...

Welcome to the hotel california
Such a lovely place
Such a lovely face
They livin’ it up at the hotel california
What a nice surprise, bring your alibis

Mirrors on the ceiling,
The pink champagne on ice
And she said ’we are all just prisoners here, of our own device’
And in the master’s chambers,
They gathered for the feast
The stab it with their steely knives,
But they just can’t kill the beast

Last thing I remember, I was
Running for the door
I had to find the passage back
To the place I was before
’relax,’ said the night man,
We are programmed to receive.
You can checkout any time you like,
But you can never leave!

Fimble Star said...

My daughter's doctor is going to try a different medicine for her. Hopefully things will improve.

And yeah, my grandma was a very unique woman indeed.

Mr Hall's party was 17 strong; they did not got to the Bluebell Railway ...ahh, so they can't have gone to London Zoo either because they had 20 in their party so that must mean...

Oh, hello :)

* puts book away*

Hi Ergo, Miss T, I'm fine thanks. You both okay?

Hi Anon.

Hi Elena.

Thanks for that :) I know I'm not brilliant for catching every comment but I try.

It's good to see that they are trying something new. Does she have a set period she has to trial it for?

Fine thanks Ergo. Not much to report.

Just doing my logic puzzle :)

I'm feeling all fluttery for you. I hope it goes well.

They want her to try the new medicine for at least a month. Not sure what the plan is if it doesn't work.

Hey Ergo!

Uriel by Ralph Waldo Emerson

IT fell in the ancient periods
Which the brooding soul surveys,
Or ever the wild Time coin'd itself
Into calendar months and days.

This was the lapse of Uriel,
Which in Paradise befell.
Once, among the Pleiads walking,
Sayd overheard the young gods talking;
And the treason, too long pent,
To his ears was evident.
The young deities discuss'd
Laws of form, and metre just,
Orb, quintessence, and sunbeams,
What subsisteth, and what seems.
One, with low tones that decide,
And doubt and reverend use defied,
With a look that solved the sphere,
And stirr'd the devils everywhere,
Gave his sentiment divine
Against the being of a line.
'Line in nature is not found;
Unit and universe are round;
In vain produced, all rays return;
Evil will bless, and ice will burn.'
As Uriel spoke with piercing eye,
A shudder ran around the sky;
The stern old war-gods shook their heads;
The seraphs frown'd from myrtle-beds;
Seem'd to the holy festival
The rash word boded ill to all;
The balance-beam of Fate was bent;
The bounds of good and ill were rent;
Strong Hades could not keep his own,
But all slid to confusion.

A sad self-knowledge withering fell
On the beauty of Uriel;
In heaven once eminent, the god
Withdrew that hour into his cloud;
Whether doom'd to long gyration
In the sea of generation,
Or by knowledge grown too bright
To hit the nerve of feebler sight.
Straightway a forgetting wind
Stole over the celestial kind,
And their lips the secret kept,
If in ashes the fire-seed slept.
But, now and then, truth-speaking things
Shamed the angels' veiling wings;
And, shrilling from the solar course,
Or from fruit of chemic force,
Procession of a soul in matter,
Or the speeding change of water,
Or out of the good of evil born,
Came Uriel's voice of cherub scorn,
And a blush tinged the upper sky,
And the gods shook, they knew not why.

Popping in and out! GS, great to see you!

You are good at many other things, no need to fret.

Bwuahaha. Slap me if my delayed lightbulb shouldn't have even gone off, and if I should get medicine for my Not-Really-Homophonitis-But-Should-Be.

Maybe it's a habit I should keep after all.
