For giving myself time.

We are all in some way the same. Any of us can be traced on parchment and placed over another and the outline will match, at some point. Keep turning the page until it fits just right. Call it coincidence, if you will.

I can hold you up against me and often the lines match up perfect.

The following is an excerpt from an old handwritten journal.

Yesterday I saw my reflection and waited for an answer. I stood there like an idiot, swaying and staring. It took a while, but what I found was strength and self-respect. The bags packed themselves and walked right out the door. My hand held tightly to all that really mattered, my own heart. All of my abandon had left the poor thing in a sad state, atrophied. But if I am patient and use it a little more each day it will regain its once youthful bounce. It will be fit for giving...forgiving. Forgiving.

(I needed the white noise as well.)

p.s. it is yours and no one can take it away.

I'm not sure Miss T. I have doubts. Those tests are partly taken to be sure that a student is able to handle their difficult course load, and also to place which classes they might excel at.

I got accepted much too easy, when everyone who knows about the school has been telling me how difficult it is to get accepted there and I doubt I even qualify to handle the classes when I couldn't even do that in high school.

I don't know. And it's not just that. There's other things that are bothering me.

Today is just one of those days when my doubtsa are rearing it's ugly head.

Don't stress BC, you'll do fine.

Colleges and Universities like to have a certain amount of mature students in their lessons so I'm sure you'll be welcomed with open arms.

Stock photos?

Anonymous said...

Nah Rw. It was just one of those blah days that made me feel tired, but last night, I couldn't sleep, so that's the main reason I'm feeling sleepy.

I'm not a heavy sleeper, so sometimes I struggle just to get enough hours.

toujours said...

hello. it's raining. :)

resurrected wreck said...

Sometimes I'm the same, BC. Though last night I actually had a good night's sleep.

resurrected wreck said...

Hi, TJ :)

Amyranth said...

RW, yeah. Sometimes stock photos help when it comes to sketching a body in a position that you find hard to envision.

Hey, how hard is organza to sew anyway?

toujours said...

hello, resurrected wreck. how's it going?

toujours said...

amyranth, you can also take a photo of yourself in a mirror for poses -- not the really hinky ones, but simple stuff. or make mister pose for you!

resurrected wreck said...

Organza? Can be tricky, though it's a damn sight earier than chiffon!

resurrected wreck said...

Not bad, TJ :) How are you?

Raining, you say? Is that good or bad?

Amyranth said...

Teej, I tried that once! I wanted to do a painting, and I needed him to sit in the bathtub. That's all. Just sit with his clothes on. He refused. That bugger.

RW, I'm trying to sew puffed organza sleeves to a cotton-spandex body for a costume for Hallowe'en, any tips?

The puffed sleeve part was easy :P

-A

resurrected wreck said...

Spandex can be tricky, A. Is the body of the costume already sewn? Do you just have to insert the sleeves?

Hey everyone

How's things around here tonight?

Amyranth said...

resurrected wreck said...

Spandex can be tricky, A. Is the body of the costume already sewn? Do you just have to insert the sleeves?

Yes, and yes. When I sewed it, I did stretch it a little bit as it went under the foot, but if worse comes to worse, I can rip out the stitching.

Amyranth said...

Hallo Elena! How were your books?

raining is always very good, resurrected wreck. always. :)

and i'm doing better, too.

amyranth, what's the use of having a guy around the house if he won't pose for drawings??? *tsk*

you have my sympathies.

you could also use photos of classical greek statues -- it's amazing how many poses you can find.

resurrected wreck said...

Hi, Elena :)

toujours said...

i'm okay, silence. :)

hey, i wanted to share a couple of things with you guys. i recently found this comm over on lj called "wtf_history" -- it's cool, every entry is just something weird that happened. there were a couple today that just need to be shared. :)

here's the first:

On the eve of the 1908 Olympic Marathon (held in London for the first time) all of the favored runners attended a party and drank til dawn (some until the race itself began). The start of the race was little weak 5 runners puked before going 1 mile. The race continued to thin leaving only the favorites by mile 10.

The favorite was Native Canadian, Thomas Longbost (Cogwagee) collapsed being too drunk on Champagne to continue at the 19 mile mark.

The only person to finish the race was Italian Dorando Pietri, who had to stop 5 times and ran the final lap staggering backwards. His trick was to keep drinking brandy throughout the race. In the end he was carried over the finish line. The only person to finish under his own power was American Johnny Hayes.

Amyranth said...

Night RW!

toujours said...

here's the second -- it's long but so very worth it. this one will blow your mind!

At the 1994 annual awards dinner given by the American Association for Forensic Science, AAFS President Don Harper Mills astounded his audience in San Diego with the legal complications of a strange death. Here is the story:

"On 23 March 1994, the medical examiner viewed the body of Ronald Opus and concluded that he died from a shotgun wound of the head. The decedent had jumped from the top of a ten-story building intending to commit suicide (he left a note indicating his dispondency). As he fell past the ninth floor, his life was interrupted by a shotgun blast through a window, which killed him instantly. Neither the shooter not the decedent was aware that a safety net had been erected at the eighth floor level to protect some window washers and that Opus would not have been able to complete his suicide anyway because of this.

"Ordinarily," Dr Mills continued, "a person who sets out to commit suicide ultimately succeeds, even though the mechanism might not be what he intended. That Opus was shot on the way to certain death nine stories below probably would not have changed his mode of death from suicide to homicide. But the fact that his suicidal intent would not have been successful caused the medical examiner to feel that he had homicide on his hands. "The room on the ninth floor whence the shotgun blast emanated was occupied by an elderly man and his wife. They were arguing and he was threatening her with the shotgun. He was so upset that, when he pulled the trigger, he completely missed the wife and the pellets went through the window striking Opus.

"When one intends to kill subject A but kills subject B in the attempt, one is guilty of the murder of subject B. When confronted with this charge, the old man and his wife were both adamant that neither knew that the shotgun was loaded. The old man said it was his long-standing habit to threaten his wife with the unloaded shotgun. He had no intention to murder her - therefore, the killing of Opus appeared to be an accident. That is, the gun had been accidently loaded.

"The continuing investigation turned up a witness who saw the old couple's son loading the shotgun approximately six weeks prior to the fatal incident. It transpired that the old lady cut off her son's financial support and the son, knowing the propensity of his father to use the shotgun threateningly, loaded the gun with the expectation that his father would shoot his mother. The case now, becomes one of murder on the part of the son for the death of Ronald Opus."

There was an exquisite twist. "Further investigation revealed that the son, Ronald Opus, had become increasingly despondent over the failure of his attempt to engineer his mother's murder. This led him to jump off the ten-story building on March 23, only to be killed by a shotgun blast through a ninth story window.

"The medical examiner closed the case as a suicide."

Mayo,

I'm no poet.

But, I can acknowledge that, so it's okay.

I ran across this on my quest to learn new things about everything all at once, and, I dunno, you struck me the type to get something out of it.

I live and breathe and explain everything because of another's words, and I can live with that. The way I look at is if they are able to say what's inside of me better than I ever could, I'll stick it in quotes, easy peasy. :)

Because nothing is quite as easy as using words like somebody else. We, all of us, do exactly this nearly all of the time—and whenever we do it, we are not poets.

Guilty as charged.

Later, dude!

SS,

'Bout to post a Blink song if you aren't careful, and it's pretty repetitive in nature, so forewarning. ;)

I hope you're well, just like I hope all of the time. Kind of running out of ways to say it! Anyhoot, have a good one!

Outside the sky is light with stars;
There’s a hollow roaring from the sea.
And, alas! for the little almond flowers,
The wind is shaking the almond tree.

How little I thought, a year ago,
In the horrible cottage upon the Lee
That he and I should be sitting so
And sipping a cup of camomile tea.

Light as feathers the witches fly,
The horn of the moon is plain to see;
By a firefly under a jonquil flower
A goblin toasts a bumble-bee.

We might be fifty, we might be five,
So snug, so compact, so wise are we!
Under the kitchen-table leg
My knee is pressing against his knee.

Our shutters are shut, the fire is low,
The tap is dripping peacefully;
The saucepan shadows on the wall
Are black and round and plain to see.

Mayo

So about this hatred towards paper plates – what’s your take on Chinet? Okay, ignore the question I’m just being silly. I do want to say though that hatred towards paper plates leads me to believe you don’t wash many dishes. I’ve put in my time at the sink, have dishpan hands and so I can appreciate a good paper plate.

Yeah, so anyway. I haven’t said goodnight to you for the past few nights. There were several reasons. One – I was in a pissy mood and when that happens I don’t like to take it out on anyone. I just think it’s best if I say to myself. Second – I’ve been sick. When that happens I get really pissy. So see, I was totally not talking to you and I was doing it for you. Hey, I still don’t feel all the great but I don’t think I’m pissy today. Hell, I worked all day and didn’t mutter one evil word under my breath to anyone. Even the woman who wanted to know why I wouldn’t take her books in trade. Seriously, they had no covers. Her remark? “Well the whole story is there.” Oh, Boy. Yeah, I’m sure I’m gonna put a book on my shelf without a cover. Okay, I rolled my eyes but I held my tongue.

So since I’m still not feeling up to par. (another stupid saying) I’m gonna turn in early. This means I will more than likely get up at 4 am but maybe not. It’s good sleeping weather, as my grandma would have said. Nice and cool. Weird weather for Kansas in August but I’m not complaining.

Take care. Hope your mood has improved. (That was a nice way of saying; hey hope you’re not still pissy).

Night Mayo

double posted that comment and don't for the life of me know how. :/

anyway, advice anon, perhaps you are the instrument of fate. feeling so strongly about it could mean that this is your role, to pass the message along. it's a fine line, i agree, but since it's already on a public blog, it isn't like you are invading someone's privacy.

Few things eclipse
the coming of night.

A cessation of noise
is the first
and finest unfolding;
the noise of the sun,
the incessant howling
of that radiation storm,
an interference
and an insult to my senses
which are finely tuned
and made for night.

As the sun recedes,
so does the noise recede;
and then, behind the veil
that thins and thins again,
I can perceive
the first strands
of the song –
the first strands
are the ocean pulses,
stars and beings,
all around, above,
below and deep beneath me,
singing as they are,
the song of life itself,
the song of time
and unbound freedom, flight
immeasurable and immense,
star children as we are,
and trapped here
in the realms of day
that cuts the chord
and the connection
to the beauty of it all,
to the beauty in my soul.

But now, the night is coming.

Hushed whispers,
radiance recedes
and now, I come to life;
I can emerge,
unfold my wings
of regal hues,
of blue and black
and as the last rays of the dying sun,
blood red, now fall and falter
and the endless beauty,
splendour now arises all around,
so do I rise, so do I wake,
so do I fly.

toujours said...

good night kapunua. :)

Come, my love, and take the wings of night
To catch the sprinkled stars along thy flight.
The high road,
The blood road,
From the world's beginning.
Come ride the wind with me
Until the stars are dimming.

Come run with me along the edge of heaven's fire
From the dawning of the night until its funeral pyre.
The high road,
The blood road,
From the world's beginning.
The wild way, the wind's way
With the gray wolves grinning.

Come fly with me, my love, and never tire
When the juice of life meets heaven's ire.
The red road,
The blood road,
From the world's beginning.
Come taste of life! Come fear no death
Until the stars are dimming!

Wrinkled parchment, yellowed lace,
Time-worn pearls, buttons, hooks,
Satin skirts whispering with worn hems,
Age within the ageless face
Shown only in the artless grace,
The knowing smile, composed, serene,
Of one whose nights are filled with life
And days spent deep in sleep's embrace.

Youthful in each curve and dip
From cheek and eye to swaying hip,
Beside the fire she sits and knits,
Warm wool between her fingertips.
She remembers blood and rain,
Pleasure, joy, sorrow, pain,
Wild nights running with the wolves,
Or flying with me over the plain.

The youthful body, childlike grace;
The dancing lightness of her steps;
Belie the years we both have lived.
Though now she dresses not in lace,
Satin, silk, or antique pearls,
Still it is thus I see her now
Whenever I dream of her by day
While wrapped, content, in her embrace.

Elena: Lover, fairy-light,
Yet stronger than the steel of swords;
Mind to mind and soul to soul,
Heart to heart together bound.
Bound together, yet as free
As eagles dancing on the wind;
And thus I hope it well may be
For us, for all eternity.

*calms beating heart*

thanks anon

I was teaching the use of the capital, full stop, question and exclaimation marks today.
you'd think by yr 8 it would be known
but this is why I tutor

we may tackle the comma next week!

Amyranth said...

Ergo, it's just been Teej flitting around for the last bit, I think she keeps locking herself in the Study, or The Vault, or maybe even The Library.

But she's somewhere. I just came out of the kitchen with cookies and tea.

ergoproxy said...

Amy quit that!

("note my usage of the exclamation point and capitals to show I am yelling. Can anyone tell me why I might have yelled that?")

ergoproxy said...

"note my incorrect use of usage. I need a coffee"

*sits on couch*

*wiggles toes in stripy socks*

ergoproxy said...

thnak you TJ, and I'll have a cookie if I may Amy?

my student is here and he has a 10 minute afternoon tea break before we begin

Amyranth said...

I've been having a 20 minute tea break. Yum.

Hallo Amy! How's the mosquito bite?

I'm good TJ, listening to some music, thank you for asking. How are you? :)

toujours said...

i'm listening to music, too, bc. :)

Amyranth said...

BC, I have four of them. And they all itch at different intervals and different intensities.

So I'm trying really hard to ignore them all.

*rakes the back of her leg with her nails*

But it isn't working.

ergoproxy said...

I was blasting MUSE at high volume in the car :)
best way to drive, though on long trips I have a real soft spot for ZZ Top

BC when do you start college? It's soon isn't it?

ergoproxy said...

Amy, not that you probably have any, but vegemite is good at stopping the itch.

Amyranth said...

*nibbles another cookie*

Yeah, I definitely don't have any. Even Calamine Lotion would be good.

Hmmm..

*goes to raid her bathroom*

Anonymous said...

Amy, I was going to suggest iodine but a safer remedy is a cotton wool ball, soaked in balsamic vinegar and pressed firmly for at least a minute.

It helps to relieve the itch.

ergoproxy said...

ooh and then have some balsamic beside you and some strawberries kick back and relax!

Amy anything that is like a paste that dries, maybe toothpaste?

Anonymous said...

That's cool TJ. What kind of music are you listening to?

Poor Amy. Try not to scratch it too much, otherwise it'll get huge.

Ergo, yep. The first official day of college starts Sept 2nd. We have a major holiday on the 1st, so classes will be closed that day. I have my first day of orientation on Monday already.

Amyranth said...

Oooh, wait! I have an aloe plant upstairs. Duh. Should have thought of that.

toujours said...

a paste of baking soda works, too.

bc, i'm listening to tbp. how about you, what have you got playing? :)

ergoproxy said...

are you excited?
It's so good you are taking steps to get some qualifications.
I saw you said you thought they accepted you too easily, but it's probably as they have a mature age intake, so it would be different to someone going in from school

Anonymous said...

...or even a hot pepper sauce dabbed lightly on it.

Amyranth said...

*thumps back downstairs*

:/

I can't harvest an innocent plant.

*ignores her mosquito bites*

Anonymous said...

That's cool TJ :)

I'm mostly listening to some random crap, depending on my mood. Some of it are songs from the European dance genre, like Real Mccoy or from the 80's genre, like Bryan Adams or Billy Idol.

Anonymous said...

baking soda with a little water and dab it on. it dries up and eventually stops the itching

toujours said...

2:13, really? like tabasco?

interesting. *files that tidbit away*

toujours said...

oh man, billy idol. that's good stuff, bc.

Anonymous said...

yes, but ever so lightly toujours, you may have sensitive skin :)

toujours said...

2:18, i always have tabasco sauce around, so i'll definitely try that next time the bugs find me tasty.

and i'll be careful, i promise. :)

Anonymous said...

Ergo, you may be right, wise one :) I'm excited, scared, nervous, indifferent all at once. Sometimes it's been hard to contain myself. I'm mostly nervous due to new surroundings and meeting new people.

The most annoying part has been the apartment search, I'll admit. Some places have the amenities I like, others don't. And it's been suggested that I take the train home after school every day, but then there is the job, so I don't think that's a good idea.

I would be way too tired and less alert if I did that.

toujours said...

i hope you can find the apartment you like, bc, and hopefully it will be close to the school. that way, you won't have to miss out on campus life. :)

Anonymous said...

TJ, I just love billy idol ^_^

toujours said...

yep, he's growly good, bc. *hee*

Anonymous said...

Thanks TJ. I hope so too. There's the studying and the working, but I don't want to miss out on the city life. There's so many opportunities.

Amyranth said...

Along the shore the cloud waves break,
The twin suns sink beneath the lake,
The shadows lengthen

In Carcosa.

Strange is the night where black stars rise,
And strange moons circle through the skies
But stranger still is

Lost Carcosa.

Songs that the Hyades shall sing,
Where flap the tatters of the King,
Must die unheard in

Dim Carcosa.

Song of my soul, my voice is dead;
Die thou, unsung, as tears unshed
Shall dry and die in

Lost Carcosa.

Hahaha, I'm first again >:)

Amyranth said...

And with that, I think I'll go to bed. Urgh, I gotta stop reading The King in Yellow.

BC, the only advice I have for you is to really think about what YOU want. I'm confident that you will make the right choices, but remember, regardless of the choice you make, you're only ever half-wrong. And besides, you have a lot of do-overs yet!

Good luck.

Goodnight Lovelies, Mayo and SS!

what's that amyranth? it seems familiar.

bc, i just know you're going to love going to college!

Amyranth said...

Oh!

*pops a bottle of sparkling cider for BC*

Amyranth said...

Teej, it's the King In Yellow. Robert W. Chambers. A great book, but the whole play is never written out.

It's said if the play is performed in it's entirety, the audience will go insane.

toujours said...

Thanks Amy, TJ *hugs*

Goodnight Amy, sweet dreams. I think that's my cue to leave. I'm gonna go listen to some music, then head to bed.

Goodnight TJ, I wish you the best week ever, if possible. Goodnight Ergo, sweet dreams. Enjoy titoring ^_^

Night everyone!

Sugarplum: Have a super wonderful time at the Queensryche show. I'm still planning on going to see Nightwish, but only if it doesn't land on a school night. I might, just might go see Metallica in January. Not sure yet though. Sweet dreams to you *smothers with super sloppy kisses*

P.S. I didn't see him at the shop tonight. Oh well. There's always college ^_~

I'll be okay.

Miranth: I miss you. I hope you're okay ♥
