Pistachio and Anchovy

When I was young I was picked on quite a bit. The usual set of circumstances, I was an easy target (smart, quiet, odd, insecure) and once the kids found my buttons they didn’t relent. For a long time I tried to ignore them. I spent a lot of time reading because I thought that with a book in front of my face I would blend into the background. And, for a while I did. From behind those first books I developed my love of the written word. Beginning with the marvels I found in the library and then later the stories I found in my own head. My need to escape elementary school torment helped foster my imagination, I suppose. I need to thank those kids for that.

So anyway, a few times the kids pretended that they wanted to be my friend. A kid would ask if I wanted to hang out on the playground either at recess or after school. The first couple of times I bought it. It was a pathetic display of desperation that, looking back now, makes me laugh. You can see that kid, right?...very awkward, over-filled book bag, disheveled clothes, greasy hair, hopeful smile. I would wait for my friend to show up and of course they wouldn’t and I would eventually trudge home. Sometimes they would gather somewhere along my route and give me a hard time shouting “Who were you waiting for back there?” and “Did you really think we’d be friends with you.” It was worse when they would wait until the next day bringing my humiliation to school to share with the rest of the class.

Why am I telling you this? Well…insight I suppose and also to offer some context that you may draw from for those times when I seem a bit vague (yes, really). I have had to overcome and still battle with some pretty substantial trust issues. Always present in the back of my mind is the voice telling me to watch out for anyone who gets too close because they probably have an ulterior motive that will leave me in a rut. It has taken me a long time and years of therapy to be able to ignore that voice and share even my more simple weaknesses with friends (without the guise of fiction). And, so I share this piece of myself, my past with you.

p.s. I am not sure what you will glean from my palate but my gut holds plenty.

(Not at present: soon and I'll let you know when.)

I do actually look quite good in hats, TJ. I don't own a cloche though. Maybe I should get one!

J, did you just say you burned Jell-O??

resurrected wreck said...

Belated congrats, EP! ^_^

Your confectionary sounds delectable!

TJ I was checking out the cowboys for you!

Hi RW BC J

thanks J and BC

J I'd say the water had superheated, it can go well over boiling then when you add anything it suddenly goes to vapour

and goodnight all who've gone to bed and sweet dreams

Original Punk J said...

maybe the water was superheated?

YA THINK?!

;)

It was the weirdest thing...it just came straight over the sides of the pan like lava from Mt. St. Helens. Strawberry Jello will look like that.

Hey BC, L's doing some better today, still not eating but is on the liquids so she's coming along.

ergo said...

and thanks RW too
that haircut looks very cute

and TJ that was a sociology study, I think they are up to 42Up or something now

Original Punk J said...

Yes, RW, I certainly did. It's a first for me, at least!

See, L wanted some Jello, and I thought I'd make it tonight so she could have some in the AM. Alas, it is not to be. :(

That's cezy, J O_o

Better luck next time!

resurrected wreck said...

I've always wanted a cloche, TJ. Not sure why I don't have one yet.

Original Punk J said...

BC, I'm doing ok. The Mom Adventure went pretty well today, no big issues brought up, no picking at me about situations I can't fix. All in all a good day.

What'd you do today?

ergo said...

Oh I have to share part of my dream last night, which was so clear and went for ages.
For some reason my hubby and I had to walk miles and we got a storm warning and could see really bright lightning flashes so stopped in this town and this flock of sparkling golden little birds flew past and I knew they were flying ahead of the storm.
We too shelter in a house and I looked out the window...

and this is the best bit..

the storm was shaped like this huge grey dog (or maybe wolf) made up of swirling clouds and the lightning bolts were inside it's legs and it was walking through the town. It walked past the house and I watched it walk on through a park, it seemed to be doing very little damage though.
But it seriously looked awesome, I'd love to know someone who could CGI it for me.
Then later I was in a classroom though unsure whether I was the teacher or not (I had previously been copying bible verses in a church)and I walked to the class and had to turn MCR down as it was playing loudly and we all knew it was Gerard singing as he was one of the students, and I sat down at the table beside him with the group I was assigned to and all his notes were crumpled up and he was smoothing them out to get me to help him with the project.

It was heaps more detailed but that was gist of it
The storm dog was really amazing

Carrie said...

Did you guys know there was full on Viggo peen in Eastern Promises? I was all O_O

toujours said...

i used to do hats all the time too, resurrected wreck, but i never tried a cloche either. maybe they're just scarce these days?

Carrie said...

Ergo, that sounds like an awesome dream! And congrats on your ribbons!!

ergo said...

Hi carrie, I haven't seen it but I have seen stills, yep full on frontal peenage

toujours said...

oh that storm dog really does sound fantastic ergo! i could see the scene so clearly too, like something out of an anime.

wow. cool dream, the little birds too.

can i borrow your brain sometime? my dreams have all been bad lately.

resurrected wreck said...

I did know, Carrie! That's his second full peen movie, actually.

Hi, by the way :)

resurrected wreck said...

Actually, a miliner in town has cloches in her shop, TJ. Maybe I should pay them a visit in the fall.

ergo said...

thanks carrie!

I'm heading down in a couple of hours to collect the stuff after the show closes

resurrected wreck said...

Storm dog sounds cool, EP!

I love vivid dreams like that!

Carrie said...

Hey RW! I am still unbelievably surprised by peen in a movie, since it happens so seldom, well, unless you're into porn and stuff.

toujours said...

a cloche would be perfect for autumn, too, resurrected wreck. no brim for the wind to catch.

resurrected wreck said...

Viggo has never had a problem with nudity.

Shame there was no nekkid Aragorn...

Original Punk J said...

Hi Carrie, well that's certainly some news. Although I don't care for Viggo myself, I know those who do will be pleased!

Ergo, your storm dog sounds like something in a Stephen King book: an ordinary event that arrives in an unordinary fashion. It DID present such a clear image; that's one of the coolest dreams I've ever heard!

resurrected wreck said...

Good point, TJ :)

resurrected wreck said...

Although I don't care for Viggo myself

O_O

ergo said...

sure TJ!

I have the most complicated surreal dreams most nights.

the storm dog was sort of a mix of the clouds they make with paint in water and part mistier
It didn't look nasty either, it seemed quite a friendly dog face.

oh and at the bullriding the guy was announcing a bull who is rarely ridden full time, saying it'd come out of the chute and go into a tight left hand spin, which it did, and the guy rode it the 8 sec and when he jumped off the bull was dizzy.
A dizzy bull looks really really funny, he staggered a bit then stood there with his legs apart, like people do, until he could trot back into the pens. He's probably never done it that long before!

ergo said...

J good call, now you mention it, it was like a Steven King idea!

Viggo is pretty good, Aragon would be better though!

Thank goodness for that J. Whew. I did absolutely nothing today. I stayed home cooking a bit, and watched some of my DVD's.

Ergo! Did you see the finale, because, yeah, I'm not so loving on the Guy now. More want to deball him.

Anonymous said...

J, there'll be lots of bands(In which I'm too lazy to post the names) but I'm only there to see at least two: Five Finger Death Punch and Machine Head, although Wendy thinks I should check out Disturbed, but we'll see.

I can't stand to sit in my seat all day because my energy tends to be all over the place, so I have to get up and go sight seeing or get a drink or something, otherwise I'll be bored.

Cameras are allowed, so I'll be able to take pics.

Original Punk J said...

That'll be good, BC. We did the same thing at PR, wandered around during the first part of the shows, ate, etc, then got to our seats when the "bigger" bands came on. Do you know, we went to four shows, and didn't see Linkin Park once? Usually by that time we were so hot, tired, and ready to sleep we'd leave after MCR.

ergo said...

I did Carrie, he's not a nice fellow really...

but with that guyliner and black leather I can forgive him anything

Anonymous said...

J, that's probably what my initial plans are for the day of the show. Just walk around a bit, etc etc. I remember after when PR was over, when we left the pit, I was so damn thirsty I was willing to pay $6 for a large drink, and well, I was desperate enough to drink my friend's raspberry ice tea.

That's how bad the thirst was. For me, that was the worst thing about the pit, despite the bruises, getting kicked in the head, and a sore body that I had endured, nothing compared to the intense thirst.

resurrected wreck said...

I left after MCR at the PR show I went to too, J.

Original Punk J said...

That heat last summer was enough to make you sweat from places you'd never known you had, yet dry up your mouth like you were in the desert. It was vile. But it was worth it. :)

I'm in no particular hurry to be in a pit again, not after Columbus in May this year. Those guys that were shoving and hitting people were dangerous. If it hadn't been for Matty (is that how he spells it? IDK.), there would've been more folks hurt than there were. They had nine ejections that night.

Original Punk J said...

Which one were you at, RW?

ergo said...

it's a shame a lot of people just want to be assholes, or they drink and act like idiots.
I remember concerts were pretty much everyone wanting to see the show, now some just want to hurt people

Anonymous said...

It definitely did J. My opinion, I thought the pit at my PR sucked, even though I hurted.

I'll be willing to go to another one if I could :)

Anonymous said...

It's disheartening how things change Ergo

Original Punk J said...

There were what looked to be at least a dozen guys in their late teens to early twenties. They were there for Billy Talent, but apparently not for the music itself. Seems like all they wanted was to push people around, see them get hurt, and be the loudest bunch there. I actually hit the ground at one point, and the only thing that saved me from getting trampled was L. She grabbed for my arm and pulled me right back up. It was like a spring-action, I was down, then I was up.

There was a little kid at the barrier that was getting mushed. We were all afraid he was going to get hurt really seriously, if not outright killed.

toujours said...

i think i'm actually starting to get the hang of being in the ga at concerts, but the big ones are no fun.

but the best thing to do is simplyhang out at the venue all day and grab the barrier when you get inside.

then it's fuuuuuuuuun. :)

resurrected wreck said...

Which one were you at, RW?

Toronto. It's where I met Gerard and Frank.

ergo said...

I don't mind the pit but stay to the side, drunk fucks seem to like the front middle

Original Punk J said...

Not always a feasibility, TJ. Not everyone can stand outside all day and/or all night. Hell, there were lots of people who weren't able to even go to any shows on this last tour.

RW, did you enjoy PR? How was your experience meeting G and Frank?

resurrected wreck said...

I avoid the pit completely. I like to have a nice comfortable seat with a good view.

Anonymous said...

J, it was definitely a good thing that L was there to help you. At my PR, a girl behind me asked me if she could hold on to me because she was getting pushed around by a few kids.

toujours said...

i like the side too, not too far off but not in the center, either. and when a mosh pit opens up, i make sure to stay out of the way -- i know i'm not up to one of those.

resurrected wreck said...

I enjoyed PR, J. I prefer the smaller venues, and I had good seats. I only really watched two bands - MCR and Placebo.

F & G were perfectly sweet when I met them. Weird to think that the very next night Gerard turned into caveman on stage.

ergo said...

RW if I'm ever unsure I'd rather get a seat, that's what I did fro MCR here, I'm too short and chicken, but MUSE was all GA as was Silverchair, smaller crowds though so it was ok

ergo said...

I'd love to see Placebo I really like his voice, were they good?

toujours said...

very good point, j. not everyone can or even wants to hang out at the venue, but it sure is a great way to make friends, though. :)

Anonymous said...

I second that RW. I like smaller venues; they're more intimate, obviously.

resurrected wreck said...

Placebo were excellent, EP. The friend I went to PR with is a fan. I'd heard a couple of songs of theirs before, but they totally won me over at PR.

In addition to meeting Gerard and Frank, we also met singer Brian Molko from Placebo. He was perfectly charming.

One thing I noticed about Gerard, Frank and Brian & any other rock stars I saw wandering around the grounds is just how diminutive they are in real life. Must be their stage presence that makes them seem so big.

Original Punk J said...

Yes Ergo, they were extremely good at our shows. I ended up buying one of their greatest hits CDs. He's got a weirdly appealing voice, doesn't he? We also got into TBS through PR, although not too heavily. And I hear a lot of LP on my radio station, so I wasn't as psyched to see them. I like them, but most of their songs sound alike to me.

Anonymous said...

♥♥

resurrected wreck said...

My biggest PR regret after-the-fact is that I didn't watch the TBS set.

resurrected wreck said...

Oh, and I nearly came face-to-face with Jimmy Urine through a wire fence, though I didn't know who he was at the time.

Anonymous said...

I thought Placebo were boring at my show, the only band I thought was decent was Julien K, but I'm thinking it was only because Chester from LP was doing guest vocals with them.

Most annoying thing was that Ville Valo couldn't stop smoking. He kept lighting up every few minutes, with most of the smoke heading directly towards the pit area :/

resurrected wreck said...

My friend and I wandered the grounds quite a bit over the course of the day (which is how we spotted Frank walking his fat little doggie), and we noticed that the "baby bands" were the ones who were trying the hardest to look like rock stars. The established acts didn't really bother.

Original Punk J said...

I know, RW, aren't they? When we met MCR in Charlotte, Frank came out and passed out water bottles to the people in line. I remember thinking that he looked like a skateboarder kid in his long shorts with his hair long. See, I expected him to be a little taller and a little wider (no offense, Frank). Gerard was about the height I expected. The most shocking thing was: HE WAS WEARING LONG SHORTS AND A SLEEVELESS TSHIRT!

Everyone was amazed that he exposed his arms to the sunlight...

resurrected wreck said...

Everyone was amazed that he exposed his arms to the sunlight...

You mean he didn't ignite & turn to dust? ;)

I think G-Way would have totally fit in at the Anne Rice parties I used to go to.

Anyway, time for me to turn in.

people who do it because they love it are far more normal offstage

My Dad was in a performance of Caberet with June Bronhill ( a famous female opera singer) and the young producer said they would be doing warm up improvisation and such , real stereotypical "AC-TOR" stuff and she grabbed my dad and announced "And we shall be back when you've finished this nonsense"

Hi Precious,

Yeah, I burned Jello tonight. In my own defense, it was boiling too fast, and when I added the powder, it went WHOOSH all over the stove.

I shall have to practise my boiling skills, apparently.

That aside, I've been thinking about you today, wondering what you're up to out there. You haven't been around for such a long time, I'm beginning to worry if you're alright. I realize you're a busy man, lots to do, always on the run. I respect that.

Whatever's keeping you occupied, that's ok. I know you're still here, whether in "body" or in spirit. You're on the other end of that cable, behind the monitor, peeking in when we least expect. That's the kind of thing you do: you take care of those you love. You watch, you listen, you advise, you comfort.

It's all these things, and so many more, that make you the very special man you are. Don't argue with me, you ARE very special. Not perfect, not beyond reproach, but exceptionally good.

Your strength will carry you far as the years pass. That, along with your innate kindness and loyalty, will make the difference in all your relationships.

Take comfort in the fact that there will always be someone out there who cares for you, who loves you, come Hell or high water. True colors, baby, never forget.

Goodnight, darlin'. I love you.

My heart to yours, always.

It's years since you've been there, and now you've disappeared somewhere
To outta space, you've found some better place

And I miss you, like the deserts miss the rain
And I miss you, oh, like the deserts miss the rain

Could you be dead? You always were two steps ahead
And eveyrone, would walk behind where you would run
I look up at your house, I can almost hear you shout down to me, where I always used to be
(chorus):
And I miss you, like the deserts miss the rain
And I miss you, like the deserts miss the rain

Back on the train, I ask why did i come again?
Can I confess? I've been hanging around your address
Years have proved, to offer nothing since you've moved
Now you're gone, I can't move on
(chorus):
And I miss you, like the deserts miss the rain
And I miss you, yeah, like the deserts miss the rain, i miss you

I step off the train, I'm walking down your street again

mayo,

sometimes i just don't know what to make of things. maybe it's just that i jump to conclusions, or maybe i give my imagination more leeway than i ought. it's difficult to back down from certain ideas, because magic is real and dreams do come true. i say this as one who has experienced it.

i'm someone who believes. i'm not credulous, i'm not gullible, but those six impossible things before breakfast? believed and seen.

but it isn't always enough to live on. discouragement paces alongside me.

i've been trying to figure out how to combat it, and i think i have a plan. when my belief turns inside out, when my hope transforms into despair and begins chewing on me, i need to create.

i've already tried this out a couple of times, months ago, before i willingly became homeless, and it worked. it was amazing! i was able to turn my mood around by simply making something.

once i wrote, i worked on one of my stories. the other time, i drew. but any creation should suffice. textile arts, painting, singing, baking...it's the act of creation, i think. it's a positive when negation overwhelms you.

i was going to try it again today, but i ended up taking a nap instead. i had an awful dream. next time, i'll finish the drawing i'm nibbling away at.

but it's a good plan, don't you think? and maybe while creating, i'll shore up my belief, feed it until it's shiny and strong again.

mayo, how have the days been going for you? have you been enjoying them in easy pleasure, have they been bright beautiful days of laughter and friendship? or have they been clunky and rattling, hitching along in fits and starts?

i hope the former, even though i know all life is both sour and sweet. and if the latter, lean on your friends, all of them, even if some of them are just silly rambling words on a screen. trust in what you believe.

somehow, incredibly, i do, even through the doubt and discouragement. even if i end up alone, i think i'll probably still believe in a hopeful tomorrow.

(feel free to pat the idealistic little girl on the head *grin*)

good night mayo, and i hope tomorrow is a day in which all your best things surround you, and make your heart light.

sweet dreams, my friend.

Mayo what a weekend I had! Of course the wins at the show were great but I love going. It's just so great to see kids having so much fun, the rides and the lights, the music the food (though really I don't know how I ate that stuff as a kid!), seeing all the people you know around town and I must admit being on a ride that spins you around and flings you out , turns you upside down and whips you back up, well nothing quite like it is there? I used to go to the huge show in our capital when I was younger, more rides than you could ever ride on, showbags, exhibits, mini circus, animal cometitions ring events wood chopping pavillion exhibits. We'd spend a full day there, as a teen we'd get there before the gates opened and then run to side show alley, get on the rides while they were quiet, usually ensuring a longer ride, especially with some innocent flirting with the young operators. Ride as much as we could until we were all rode out, then grab lunch ad wander about all the rest, sit and watch dog judging, wander through the cattle and horses with their sashes and rosettes. Then into the showbag pavillion, that was when they were sample bags, full of chocolate and candy, not toys and stuff like today, and it was much cheaper (yes I do the old "back in my day..." terrible isn't it. But the whole thing still makes me smile. The time it rained and we were soaked on the Orbiter, then walked down the middle of the paths while everyone else huddled under marquees, trying out new rides, deciding which ones looked way too scary.
I know your post talks of unhappy memories but I really do hope you don't dwell o it all, those things can make us the sort of person we are, but I think people forget just how much the good memories can too, if you let them.
I hope you have a whole lot of really good memories, dust them off and bring them to the forefront of your mind, focus on them and the way they made you feel, and you'll definitely have a brighter outlook
Wishing you fun, faith, fantasy and fortune lotsa love EP xx

SS hope you're well, and also hoping you have many brilliant memories you can recall to make you smile and hoping that you will create so many more memories for you and all those you love
Sending you laughter, luck and love
lotsa love EP xx

“it's a shame a lot of people just want to be assholes, or they drink and act like idiots.
I remember concerts were pretty much everyone wanting to see the show, now some just want to hurt people”******

I agree, Ergo! I just don’t understand the intent to cause pain. That type of thing really does not happen, much, at shows around here (thankfully). Sure, there is the occasional ‘teeth getting knocked out’ but, it is accidental and it does not happen often. NOLA security is very, very good at crowd control! Two words can explain that: MARDI GRAS. An additional five words can further enhance that explanation: “Laissez le bon tempts rouler!” (Let the good times roll!) We are a bunch of mellow, laid back people afterall! ;)

I would like to add that when I go to a ROCK SHOW, I expect to see a ROCK SHOW - not a political rally. Afterall, if I wanted to attend a political rally, I would purchase a ticket for one of those. As Amy (and MCR) has/(have) so eloquently stated "Shut Up and Play"!

*Exceptions to the rule: Concerts such as "Live Aid", "Farm Aid", "Live Earth" and other benefit/awareness shows where you KNOW exactly what to expect!*

I would also like to add that I absolutely adore hearing Paul Stanley talk about his "Love Gun". Now, THAT, is what a rock show is supposed to be about (in my humble opinion). I pay, you entertain me and make me smile - for hours and hours afterwards!

“Most annoying thing was that Ville Valo couldn't stop smoking.”******

O_O and *gasps

Them’s fighting words, sweetcheeks! ;)I think we should all respect Mr. Valo’s ‘artistic vision’ and the way he chooses to express himself. Viva La Revolution!!!!!
(Pssst...I do still love ya!) And, sorry I got the summer tour wrong. There seem to be so many this year!

To ponder the fun (or not) today:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"The more fun you have, the greater your value to yourself and to your society. The more fun you share with others, the more fun you have."
"The Path that is best for you is the Path that keeps the best of you in play"
"...and the Truth will Make you Laugh."
"In the beginning it was fun. In the end, it was all for fun. And in between is where it tickles most."
"All for fun, and fun for all!"
"You can only have fun helping other people have fun if you're having fun doing it."
"Fun is better than winning."
"You ask: 'What is the Meaning of ME\WE?' I/we answer: 'When the will of the one is one with the will of the many."
"The more, come to think of it, the potentially merrier."
"It's more fun when you're not the only one having it."
"Happy are those who get to talk. Happier are those who get listened to."
"The purpose of fun is to have it."
"Fun is where it's at. That's why you have to be there."
"If it's not fun, tell me, why are you still playing?"
"Ask not what fun does for you, but what you do for fun!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I hope you all have a day filled with sharing the fun and the love!

Hugs and love,
~Namaste~

I love those 3 quotes.
I must say it's a rare day I am not laughing about something, sometime.
Not everyday is brilliant, but if something gets you chuckling it's always better.
For all the time we have to be serious and responsible, a smile or a laugh not only brightens your day, but that of those you share it with.

I have a quote , I cannot recall who to attribute it to but:

"God is just a comedian, playing to an audience to afraid to laugh"

so Blogbelieve - share the laughter

Hi guuuuys!

How are you all today? Right here, it is breezy and cool, which is a little depressing to me. I need at least another two weeks before I will accept "breezy and cool." Just yesterday it was 90 degrees and I was sharing a pool float with Beautiful Boy while 30 Seconds to Mars was playing."YOu say you wanted more, what are you waiting for, I'm not running from youuuuuuu!" IT'S HIGH SUMMER. Err, uhh...

I wanna share some pics from yesterday if no one minds, especially these awesome ones of a preying mantis that we all found. Yeah?

go for it, kapunua. :)

The names have been changed just because I know I get teased a lot here and I don't like my friends getting dragged into it.

So yesterday at the party, the party favors were Baoding Balls, I effing kid you not. The best part was that the insert on how to use them read: For relaxation, place two balls in hand and move them about.... That was funnier than it should have been to the adults, because every once in a while we would open the box, read the insert and go, "Khhkhhkhh!" I've had a pair of Baoding balls since I was in my twenties and I know how to use them in both hands, but no one else really did so I was showing some people how to do it. Sifu walked in just then, saw me with them and said, "I thought yours would be bigger. And brass." And I just lost it. Toward the end of the day, I was showing Sije Empress Teishi's Mom how to use them but the pair I had were really teeny. Beautiful Boy was carrying his around, which were bigger and I wanted to show her using his ones so I called him over, and then panicked: "Uhhh, wow. I have no idea how to ask you this."

Hilarity, of course, ensued. It ensued many, many times, actually.

We had a great time giggling it up about those damn Baoding balls. Beautiful Boy was carrying his around and totally forget that he had them in his hand, and he had his other hand in his pocket when Scarred Hardcase (from the other school, but the toughest of the tough in the entire academy,) asked him, "The hell, are you standing there holding your balls?" and he got all "OMG, NO, I just have my hand in my pocket!" before he remembered that he had the Baoding balls. The humor was in the fact that he really had forgotten that he was holding them.

He wanted me to go swimming and I wasn't sure I wanted to be showing off my ridiculously white legs and my seven year old one-piece bathing suit from Target, surrounded by beautiful, young girls in cool looking bikinis and I told him that the chlorine hurt my eyes since the surgery. "Wear goggles," he said. "Or drink enough beer that you can have beer goggles and then wear them in the pool." I did end up going in the pool, with my sunglasses on and then I put the goggles over them, which made him laugh pretty hard.

But there was more to it than Baoding balls. There was cake and swimming and long talks. In the pool, Empress Teishi's family had these really cool toys and one of them was a huge, gold round one. I climbed on it (with help from Beautiful Boy; it was slippery and hardly anyone could climb on!) then sat in the lotus position and called out, "Hey guys, who am I?!" Everyone was like, "BUDDHA LOL!"

Sehing Matt Damon was there, making me feel like even more a wolf among sheep. He came with his on-off girlfriend, and as usual, I wasn't sure even how to talk to him. The dude knows I had it bad for him a few years ago; he has to know. I am the most obvious ho-bag there is.

Randomly, when I was between Beautiful Boy and Sehing Matt Damon once, Empress Teishi's mom looked at me and quoted, "She's got a lot of pretty, pretty boys that she calls friends."

Boy, do I ever.

In the pool, I talked for a long time with Beautiful Boy about everything under the sun (mostly college, since he's going into the medical field and I am going back to school,) travel, and we compared scars. And out of the pool with Sharp-witted Brownbelt Boy about Kung Fu, people with issues, our own issues, and how they don't really go away when you "grow up" the way people seem to think they do. I like this kid. He seems so quiet and nerdy, sitting there in orange pants looking for all the world like a seventeen year old Langley of the lone Gunmen, but then when he gets going with his wit, he's fully hilarious and very observant.

Before he left, he bowed to everyone and I just gave him a hug. Scarred Hardcase teased him and said, "Ooh, a girl hugged you, go tell everyone on the internet!" And Sharp-wit said, "You know, it's actually really nice chatting with her. She's a good chatter. You should try it sometime." It was too funny.

At the end of the day, Scarred Hardcase found a mantis in the grass and picked it up. It was a juvenile one. We all held it and it was so sweet. Then he let it climb on his face.

PICTURES!

Sharp-wit and Sije Empress Teishi.

Beautiful Boy and Empress Teishi.

Sije Empress Teishi with the mantis.

Coolest pic of the day.

A really swell closeup of the mantis on my hand.

We thought it was really cool because we actually do the Mantis Style. Mantis style is one of my favorites, along with Crane and Tiger.

So it was pretty neat!

TJ, there's nothing stalkery about about you. ^_^ LJ thrives on comments; but you should never feel obliged to. Either way it's cool.

Yeah, I am so into mantids, too, I think they are beautiful, graceful, like little aliens. But they do bite and they have powerful mandibles. They are hard to provoke, but they are capable and I'm not sure I'd let one walk on my face either. He let it walk over his eye, too. O_o
