It mattered most when I least expected it...

I heard you whisper last week
your lips were pressed against my ear.
And even though the words have passed
the message is still clear.

It really meant something.
The calm one, the one with the reason…his tongue is raw with truth, and my ears bleed faith. My deft eyes claim certainty. It was well hidden between the curtain and the guillotine.

My devoted hands work tirelessly to articulate a minstrel's vow. The commission of such an act gives me a unique sense of purpose, and helps stave off the return of my old internal debate.

I am afraid to stop, my mind fraught with hindsight. Unsure if it will hold, I test the bindings.

Secure.

p.s. some speak in tides, others ride the waves in silence.

Hi GS :)

I'm quite well today. Just got in from my work Christmas party. I never stay very late at those things, but it was nice to have some social time with the ladies & gents at the opera. We have the next five days off, which I'm very much looking forward to.

How are you today?

hey there resurrected wreck. you know, i have to say i think i envy you working where you do. backstage has always seemed compelling to me.

As a costumer, I rarely go backstage. That's the work of the dresser. I have been a dresser only five times (twice for school productions while I was at university, and three times for ballet performances). I found quick-changes to be really exciting, all the running around backstage & well-choreographed costume switches. Otherwise, it can be quite boring :/

Costumers do our work at the wardrobe, which isn't even in the same building as the performances (at least not the place I work for).

The Wizard of Oz is just finishing up its run. It has been, so I've been hearing, a bit hit. Here's a pic of one of the costumes I worked on:

Wicked Witch of the West

We're still working on the costumes for Tosca. A lot are done, but we've still got a fair bit to do. Tosca doesn't open til sometime in January though, so we've still got time.

I bought the circus girl shirt, very cute

That's the one I meant :) I like it too.

i understand from exsperience how you can throw a sheet over this with your obligations, and sense of importance, and purpose, and all the things that come with it.
but i can also say from exsperience how great it feels to have such a weight lifted of your shoulders, and a sence of assurence, and knowlage about everything around you.

enjoy your holiday first, surround yourself with family and traditions. i hope all goes well, let me know.

i hope i helped, or you read this at least.

resurrected wreck said...

How long, on average, do they take to complete?

That depends entirely on how compilcated/intricate the particular costume is & how well (or not so well) the fittings for it go. I'm terrible at keeping track on how long it takes me to finish things. I really should keep note of it, if only for my own information.

resurrected wreck said...

RW - you don't know what you're missing, it's a really good story.

I've got the first one, but haven't gotten around to reading it yet. I mostly got it out of curiousity, I'm not actually a comic book fan. Never have been, even when I was a kid.

toujours said...

P.S - Can anyone tell me WHY we're eating Octopus for solstice?

it actually an ancient tradition, amyranth. because they come from the depths of the sea, they can be said to represent our dreams, and the fact they have so many grasping tentacles represents our hopes to be able to garb and hold onto all our dreams. so the greeks, i think it was, used to eat them at solstice as a way of infusing their midwinter feats with the hope to be able to grasp all they wished for in the new year.

LOL! I will not "give it a rest" because I do happen to know why we "have christmas in the first place." It's because the Christians wanted something to coincide with the Winter Solstice, like every other religion known to man, ever. If there really was a Jesus, there's no way he could have been born in December. Coincidence much?

Yes, that too. Suddenly there was no interaction at all. Not even eye contact. I wouldn't want to share the stage with a man that tossed me around like a rag doll with millions of viewers watching either. Can you blame him?

Absolutely not. I guess I'll never forget seeing that. God, that whole thing was such a train wreck. And Frank deserves so much better.

Capture This Void said...

After the song had ended and everyone saw what just happened, he said something like "Waaaaay too far tonight. Way too far" and that was it. Please correct me if I'm wrong? I've watched the thing only once, live. I refuse to watch it again. This is all from memory.

No, I remember that. One of the things that got me so upset was how he would not. Let. It. Go. Throwing the bottle at him, kicking crap over like a two year old having a tantrum, and his little bitchfit after that with "WAY TOO FAR." Dude was like a pitbull, it was sickening.

Anon, why don't you GTFO, huh?

Anonymous said...

Your right, he did try to hug him.

In a resent interview he said.... I would do nothing to disrespect my wife on stage.

I think, i don't know, but maybe, that was what he was thinking when Frank tried to hug him, before he married her, cause right before he claimed to be in love, he was kissing all over
Frank.

Just a thought.

resurrected wreck said...

Gerard said it into the microphone.

I'm going to assume, then, that it was in reaction to something that went on backstage between him and Frank that night, rather than Frank actually trying to hug him. Because, really, that hug was so tame compared to most of the other antics those two got up totogether on stage during that tour.

resurrected wreck said...

Maybe the missus doesn't like the onstage lovin'. Because while it was going on during most of PR I don't think it would have ever occurred to Frank that he was "disrespecting" Jamia. Don't think it ever would have occurred to Jamia either.

I agree! Gerard changed, when he got with Lynz, she should have just gone with the flow.

I know if i where her, i would have loved to see my man and Frank, hell i might even go on stage and join them.

Frank and Jamia are lucky to have found each other. They seem to be really in love, not the Gerard/Lynz type of love.

Frank doesn't go around telling others how much "in love" he is. I guess he just knows he is. Doesn't have to prove it to anyone else.

Just throwing in to say that Jamia seems really cool. I only met her once and she seems sweet. She clearly makes Frank happy, and that boy deserves all the happiness in the world, so that's just awesome in my little book of What Is Awesome.

Also, she has really beautiful skin.

Anonymous said...

What video?

I'm interested in what Eliza has to say. When she was with Gerard I had absolutely no interest other than that I thought she was "flaunty" where he was private, but whatever. He seemed to still be true to the music.

Then Gerard made Gerard's love life the primary focus of his career and it's impossible to ignore. From his uncouth and ridiculously public dumping of her, the flaunting of his new "relationship" (LOL) and the current slagging of all of his exes (calling them "lousy," saying that Kat wasn't there for him, implying that he cheated on Kat when he used to be adamant that he at least had too much respect for her than that,) he's become like this pitiless monster when it comes to women.

I'm interested in what she has to say. Clearly Gerard wants us to be interested in his love life, so I'll give her a listen, too.

For what's it's worth, I saw Gerard as the wounded party right after the broken engagement.

Saw a video clip from the Paris performance, and the man sounded like he'd been crying/screaming/wailing before he went onstage. And during interviews right after that, when Eliza was brought up, he would tear up and sound choked when he talked.

Supposedly she was "doing more than just cutting other bands' hair".

Could be, OPs. If that's the case, though, Gerard needs to move on. He's married now and supposedly "happy", why the continued need to rant?

What sort of things do you say to yourself, PJ??

Original Punks, No you are dead on, something happend, maybe he is the wounded one and pissed, and she is trying to pass it off as he dumped her.

There is so much i wish i knew about what happened, but it may come down to he said/she said, an it may get ugly.

Anonymous said...

I get the impression Gerard has never truly experienced love with a female. By that I mean the type of love where you would put that person over your own needs.

Original Punk J said...

Ah RW, there's the key phrase: "if he's happy". Does he really LOOK or SOUND happy? Sure, he talks about the wife, but only to say he loves fucking her. Never heard him say "I love her" or "I miss her when we're apart", anything truly caring. And no, he doesn't have to say anything about his feelings, but you'd think a newlywed would be a bit more sentimental.

And he wouldn't still be talking about his former fiancee.

Seems to me he took up with Lynz awfully quickly after the, uh, "public displays of affection" with Frank.

Y'know?

PJ, I'm agreeing with most everything you said.

J

Supposedly she was "doing more than just cutting other bands' hair".

I read that somewhere and it sounded like some anonymous fangirl. There was one anonymous letter that rang true. One.

Wounded party? Maybe. But I never saw any evidence of him getting choked up or being hurt. He shrugged the whole thing off. "Meh, left the bitch, it happens." Meantime, he has taken every opportunity possible to not only drag his new wife into the spotlight as ungraciously as possible, but to take a huge dump on both of his exes at the same time.

He's been bitch-mouthing the both of them for months. He can do this, because he's in the spotlight and he knows that the fangirls will eat it up. "Poor Gerard! She must have ripped his poor little heart out!" He knows that neither of his exes has the public voice that he has. They can only feel totally helpless to him right now.

If a guy did that to me, you can bet I'd say my piece, too. And it would so not be nice.

resurrected wreck said...

Anon, if you mean that he has possibly never experienced a love where his needs were put before the other person's bythat other person, then I think you may be right about that.

I agree with this, too. In the interviews with him that I can bear to read, he's all "Me and the wife."

The wife? Seriously, she's reduced to an article and a noun? "The little lady." "The Old ball and chain."

He's not talking about one specific woman. He's talking about marriage in general and how it completes him.

resurrected wreck said...

Anon,

I think you're right. It looks like he zeroes in on weak-willed women but stronger-willed men. He acts like he feels more comfortable with men in general, but I don't think he's a true homosexual. I feel he's "person-sexual" in that he falls for a personality, and not a gender.

Possibly if he met a woman with a stronger character and a personality that meshed with his, he could be very happy.

J

Anonymous said...

Okay guys, here is my funny story. At least one person asked to hear it, now you're getting it. ^_^

Okay, so I have this co-worker, right? We'll call her Crotchety, because that's what she is. And she's well known for totally not getting any part of the holiday gift spirit. We do "secret santa" every year, twenty dollar limit, and every year everyone dreads pulling her name. I she doesn't like her gift--and she will invariably loathe it--she will let everyone know, quite publicly, that she got "cheated yet again" and how miserable she is, while everyone else is happy with their gifts. Then we'll hear about it for months after, about how unfair it is that she never gets a good present, while everyone else always seems so happy. I tried to explain to her once that many times, the people don't actually love their gifts. But you still should just enjoy that someone thought of you, that you were part of the party, that you got something. She doesn't get it. Like, last year she pulled my name. She got me a tube of hand lotion from the pharmacy, four pieces of chocolate, and a fake ceramic owl with glasses on. I think it's that old cartoon owl, you know the one? But she thought about me, so it was cool. She thought, you know, "She likes chocolate, she always uses hand lotion, and she likes birds." Cool deal. One year, someone got her a nice little baking set with brownie mix in it. She actually brought it back to work and left it in the back with a note that said, "I can't use this, MY MOTHER HAS HIGH CHOLESTEROL."

So anyway, this year Crotchety pulled the name of one of the night-workers, the mom of one of the girls who works at the desk. She has decided not to go to the party tomorrow ("Why should I stand around and talk to people while I'm waiting for my gift and for my food, when I could be home and have dinner at five and get my gift a few days later?" Exact words.) So she brought her gift for the night-shifter and left it on the counter in the kitchen.

So of course I had to know what it was. "Open it now!" I told her. "I have to see what fantastic thing Crotchety got you!" So she did.

Two Christmas themed pot-holders, and a little plaque that reads, "May angels watch over you always." But here's the best part. The angel plaque was still in its original box. The box had a gift tag on it, made out to Crotchety, that she tried to cover over with white out. She didn't even bother putting it in a different box. She didn't even bother putting a different tag over the other tag! She just put white out over it and wrapped it up.

Oh my god. Seriously? Funniest thing ever.

resurrected wreck said...

Oh good lord, K! I'm so glad that's not someone I work with!

It is, however, amusing to hear about her happening to someone else ;)

Did anyone notice, in that last interview, how embarrassed he was when he was ask, if he liked romance or something like that, i just thought it was kind of strange thing to get embarrassed about.

Anonymous said...

OP,

Some people are just born with more vulnerable personalities. They are very sensitive and generally follow the people they associate with.

Others have born with a positive strong personality, they just know themselves better despite life experiences. Gerard seems to fall in the first category, and Frank in the second.

Although I have no idea about the character of LynZ, I assume she has a lot of emotional growing up to do. I would have hauled up Gerard on some of the things he said, a long time ago. If he has so much respect for her, he would listen. And if she is emotionally mature, she doesn't need Gerard to profess how amaaazing life is married.

Original Punk J said...

Supposedly she was "doing more than just cutting other bands' hair".

This was from an interview that Gerard did with, I believe, a Finnish newspaper. I don't have the link, but L read it, and those were the words Gerard himself used.

L brought up a point she's been stressing for a while. If G didn't care for Eliza, why would he go to the bother of trash-talking her? Or anyone else for that matter? If you really, honestly care for someone that hurt you deeply, you want them to hurt like they hurt you. If you didn't care at all, you'd drop it and move on. Remember what he said a long time ago, that he was obsessed with revenge, that he wanted to get back at people who'd hurt him?

So, there ya go. Just throwing that up there. :)

I missed that interview. I can't bear to watch any of his interviews these days.

What I find odd how he said he doesn't get crushes on people. WTF? Everyone has had a crush, secret or public, whether they're embarassed looking back on it or not. I mean, didn't he used to "stalk" Christina Ricci? And what about his former closeness with Bert. Both sound like crushes to me.

Anonymous said...

Wow, okay, I can't imagine an interview like that happening and the internet not exploding with wank. And as far as Gerard has gone, and as much of an ass as he's been, I'm calling BS on that one. Newspapers and magazines surely do make up a lot of crap. Of note: The "Frank is bisexual" quote from over the summer. yeah, did NOT buy that one, either.

That interview sounds made up. It seems as if some people, especially the press, have an agenda.

Anonymous said...

OP

L is correct. When you don't care about someone, you are apathetic, you do not care what they do. He is still emotionally connected, even though it may not be in a romantic sense.

Okay, so getting back to that co-worker, oh man, you guys have no idea. She's like this year-round and mostly we just put up with her. Actually, weirdly, I have kind of a soft spot for her. I feel sorry for her. No one else will ever talk to her, so on Tuesdays it's just her and I in the dining room when we take our breaks, and all we have in common is gardening, so we talk about gardening for the entire time. She has absolutely no social grace. She talks over everyone, doesn't listen to a word you say, and gives WAY too much information on her elderly mother's bowel movements.

But I remind myself that she has nothign else in her life outside of this job. Just her elderly mom who she has to play nurse for, and whom she can't wait to die, and her dog. That's it.

I guess that's why she's crotchety, but still. I mean, that's really disgraceful, isn't it?

It's almost hopeful to think that the personality crisis he's going through now was caused by this. Because that would put the possibility out there that, as he's now in a supposedly stable & content relationship with someone else, he'll level out & get back on track.

But I'm just not feeling it.

Yes, I would tend to agree with you on that as well. G's core personality seems to be a good one, he projects a loving, caring side most of the time. But, and I think this stems from low self-esteem and insecurity that began in his youth, he seems to feel the need to be someone else. Someone that he thinks other people approve of and love and respect. If he simply showed his true personality, I think he'd find that others would approve of, love, and respect him even more. He seems like a regular guy with a lot of emotional and psychological problems.

Frank, I think, may have some of those same insecurities, but not to the same degree as Gerard does. I remember hearing a comment Frank said about not being comfortable "in your own skin, so you try to cover it up" or something to that effect, when referring to his tattoes.

Maybe he's never been given the chance to try his own skin on, you know what I mean?
