For the protagonist and the cup of coffee we share...

A favorite...oh how I do love fire.

I Pity the Wind
Gerald Stern

I am taking off my glasses
so I can stare at the little candles
and the glass of water
in pure darkness.

I am letting a broom stand
for my speech on justice
and an old thin handkerchief
for the veil of melodrama I have worn for thirty years.

I am dragging in Euripides
for his strange prayer
and my own true Hosea
for his poem on love and loyalty.

After a minute I fall down dead
from too much thought
and turn to the freezing wall
for an hour of quiet sadness.

I start my practice later,
twenty minutes for breathing,
twenty minutes for song,
twenty minutes for liberation and ritual.

My poem is about the airshaft
and Zoroaster
and the soul caught in its last struggle
with the two-headed cow, father of everything.

My elation has something to do with light,
my misery with darkness,
my secrecy and fear and distance
with neither.

I end up with a pillow
and a painted floor, as I always do,
my head on the flowers, a little pocket for air,
my right arm drifting and dangling.

I end up just humming,
true to myself at last,
preparing myself for the bridge
and the hand that will lead me over, the hand I adore.

I pity this hero,
so in love with fire,
so warlike,
so bent on teaching.

p.s. I couldn't resist you and your agile fingers as they swept over my heart filling it with glory. To follow the mass, my own words prey.

Nice choice, Mayo.

resurrected wreck said...

Curious. Seems you and I are the only ones up right now.

I knew it! I love you, you crazy mother-fucker! So that's what you were doing!

P.S. Do I still have you wondering about me?

Protagonist

1. The main character in a drama or other literary work.
2. In ancient Greek drama, the first actor to engage in dialogue with the chorus, in later dramas playing the main character and some minor characters as well.
3.
a. A leading or principal figure.
b. The leader of a cause; a champion.
4. Usage Problem A proponent; an advocate

I am back RW, had to slip off for awhile, i come back and this is what i find.
Boy! He really wants us to think about this one.

I did say give us something to chat about, but damn!

I know, PJ! I just got up & this is what I find. Oi! It's too soon from sleep for my brain to start working! And I have to leave the house soon to do errands/visit with friends. I'll have to chew on this one later.

Mayo, we need that paycheck for anonymouse fast!!!
Please pay him first.

Good morning our dear Mayo.

Odd time for you to be posting, isn't it? But that matters not. Glad to know you're still sticking it out with us. Thanks for the visit, by the way.

You've caught my eye with this:
My elation has something to do with light,
my misery with darkness,
my secrecy and fear and distance
with neither.

Are you confused? You have no idea what you feel, do you? Keep searching. You'll find it. I don't know who I am half the time either.

I end up just humming,
true to myself at last,
preparing myself for the bridge
and the hand that will lead me over, the hand I adore.

Are you being honest, or is this how you really feel? Are you being true to yourself? If so, I'm now confused more than ever by your choice of beautiful poetry. That's okay though. I'll have you figured out one day...
"The hand that will lead me over"- draws a pleasant picture. Who's hand will that be Mayo? Ours? Yours? Can you save yourself?

I pity this hero,
so in love with fire,
so warlike,
so bent on teaching.

I pity that hero, too. You like doing this don't you? You like being in the middle of it all, causing all of this destruction. I'm not sure why, though. Does it make you happy? Do you really enjoy the mess it makes?
"So bent on teaching"- Teaching what? How to defend? How to make us fight?

I'm learning to be patient with you Mayo. It's taking me awhile, but I'm learning. Maybe that was your lesson plan after all.

Anonymous said...

OH SHIT!!! i said Anonymouse, I need one too for my spelling.

Anonymous said...

Mustard, I think we all have to learn to be a little patient with Mayo, considering what he does ^_^

Anonymous said...

Where are my manners? Oh yeah, that is right, I have none. Lol
Good morning/afternoon to you dear Mayonaise. How are you on this fine day? A little odd to be posting a new blog at this time of day, no?

elena said...

I'm freaked right now. I was reading "Everything Is Burning" just the other day. Damn was I channeling Mayo?

Gerald Stern's poetry is so unique

Back to fire..

Anonymous said...

You speak the truth Mustard,

I will be back soon, i have no time right now figure out what it all means.

He really knows how to fuck with our minds.
Till later.
Hugs Mayo, RW, and you too Mustard.

Anonymous said...

Okay, Mayo, here's my take, even though I'm only half way done with my gigantic Dunkin Donuts coffee. I'm quoting you:

p.s. I couldn't resist you and your agile fingers as they swept over my heart filling it with glory

This made me warm and fuzzy inside. Optimistic. I hope that you and the protagonist enjoyed your coffee, and will enjoy your day!

Magic Pie said...

Beautiful. I am a sucker for anything that reminds me of Greek myth, as I did minor in Classics in university.

I needed this right now. I feel so lost and drawn into myself. It's as though you feel as I feel at this moment in time.

It makes me feel strangely at peace.

I do not know you but I love you.

...remember remember the 5th of november...let's try to make this 5th of November (tomorrow)the day we change things for the better and let go of the horrors.

Anonymous said...

The lively banter and sharp wit I encounter here is remuneration enough.

Anonymous said...

Good to know, Mayo. Thanks.

Anonymous said...

Good morning/afternoon everyone. How are you?
Mayonaise, I am not much in the mood to interpret your poem. I could not sleep last night, I think I may be getting sick, just ugh.

Anonymous said...

I am not Mayo.

Anonymous said...

Magic Pie:

V For Vendetta?

Mayo:
Having you post, no matter what it may entail, makes me happy. Just to know you are still there and still reading, though you may hate what's being said, I still feel like some of this shit gets through your thick-ass skull. I mean it. Thank you.

Anonymous said...

Good to know, anonymous. I know you are not him

Anonymous said...

I just seen V for Vendetta. Has anyone seen it? It's pretty good ^_^

elena said...

Thank you, Mayo. Although I don't really add much it's not for want of trying. Some of the people on this blog are brillant. I so enjoy their thoughts.

Anonymous said...

My apologies, "I am not Mayo."

See what happens when cryptic shit gets posted? Mayo's always at fault ;)

Magic Pie said...

haha Mustard...yes I was channeling a little V. If I could be anyone, I think I'd be him.

Magic Pie said...

BC, V for Vendetta is my favourite movie.

Anonymous said...

Ah, the sagacious BC. How are you this evening?

Anonymous said...

It is a rather good movie isn't it magie pie? ^_^
Ah, anonymous, I am doing well, thank you. How about yourself?

Anonymous said...

I thought that was a really good movie. I have a love/hate relationship with our government. That's why I dig 1984.

I don't think I'd want V's power. That'd be a super-frightening position to be in, to be able to control. He did have quite a heart though. I'll have to go back and watch it a second time. Kind of hard to follow and gather it all the first time through.

Anonymous said...

No apology necessary Mustard. It's all good.

Anonymous said...

I'm not stupid by any means Anon, but dictionary.com is getting a workout by me today :)

elena said...

Sorry "Not Mayo" but I still stand by what I said. The people on this blog are so full of deep emotions that their thoughts are a pleasure to read.

Magic Pie said...

Mustard, you must see it again. I think I've seen it over 20 times now.

I love V. He is totally sexy, frightening, loving, charasmatic, intense, tortured, hurtful, caring...he is everything that is humanity.

Anonymous said...

I'm doing good BC, thanks for asking. My neck is a little stiff but I can't complain as I have no-one to blame but myself. I'm not getting any younger you know!

Anonymous said...

"He is everything that is humanity."

I really like that MP. That's a very good description of humanity. Very good.

Fimble Star said...

hello mayo. nice to read you again. hope the weather where you are is as nice as were i am. lovely jubbly

hello my lovely e-family. how are we all today. did i tell you the weather is lovely here lol

Anonymous said...

I agree mustard. The position in power he was in is quite frightening, especially going after the supposed all knowing, all powerful government. I would not want to be in that sort of position as well. Some reason, it reminds me of reading Animal Farm back in high school O_0

Anonymous said...

anon if your not mayo. are you a MR Way by any chance?

Anonymous said...

Your welcome anonymous. Sorry to hear about your stiff neck. You must take it easy, no? ^_^
So what brings you here?

Anonymous said...

BC? Since you've read Animal Farm, have you had the opportunity to read 1984? It's also by George Orwell. My all-time favorite book. V For Vendetta pulled lots of ideas from that one I think. That's why I liked it so much.

Magic Pie said...

Thank you, Mustard. V makes me all poetic. ;)

Anonymous said...

Elena said...
Sorry "Not Mayo" but I still stand by what I said. The people on this blog are so full of deep emotions that their thoughts are a pleasure to read.

And that, my friend, is why I decided to stick around. To my amazement, I am actually beginning to distinguish each of you, your personalities, quirks and eccentricities that are so endearing. Mayo should consider himself very lucky to have such warm, intelligent, passionate guests at his blog.

Anonymous said...

Hey, Elena, you contribute here! You are sweet and kind, and I'm always happy when I see your name! You contribute by just being you!

Anonymous said...

I have not gotten the chance to read 1984 yet, Mustard, but I do come across it when I visit the bookstore. It must be a great book if the movie took ideas from it

Anonymous said...

I don't mean to knit-pick you Mysterious Anon who Is not Mayo, but Anonswers:

I don't believe this is Mr. Way. I don't think, with his level of book-smarts he'd say, "I'm doing good BC."

The correct way to say that would be, "I'm doing well BC."

Just saying. Maybe Gerard isn't that smart, who knows?

Anonymous said...

Anonymous, from reading your comment, I am going to assume that you have been here for a while now, correct?
And thank you for the compliment. It is much appreciated :)

Anonymous said...

I like you Anon. You talk sense. You should consider naming yourself as well, so as to discern your thoughts and attitudes from the rest of the bunch. You know, make it like a family affair.

Anonymous said...

I second that mustard

Anonymous said...

Very astute Mustard. I am nowhere near as eloquent or articulate as Mr Way.

elena said...

Star - Thank you. To be honest it's always a little hard for me to make comments. Fear of ridicule has always held me back. Some things from your past no matter how hard you try to overcome them won't let go. The more I'm here the easier it is becoming for me to speak.

Anonymous said...

Would you guys like to select a name for me?

Anonymous said...

Aw, Anon. Don't beat yourself up ;)

That just happens to be a pet peeve of mine (I'm working on it!). It just sticks out when someone says it, so you aren't the only one I've called out :)

Yes, quite eloquent, the Mr. Way.

Anonymous said...

What name would you like us to select anon?

Anonymous said...

It gets easier the longer I'm here, Elena.

Hmmm, anon, I was thinking Stiffy because your neck is stiff, but that doesn't sound right, and hopefully your neck will feel better.

What's your favorite food?

Anonymous said...

Because I'm feeling a touch witty:

Anon. You should name yourself "I am not Mayo."

That'd make 'em all go crazy trying to figure out your identity.

I'm just kidding. I wouldn't do that. It brings out the worst in us.

Anonymous said...

Your comment made me laugh so loud that I just got some very odd looks! Nothing new, I suppose.

resurrected wreck said...

Would you guys like to select a name for me?

Such a shame Kapunua isn't here right now to tackle that one.

Anonymous said...

Anon, what about Tabasco? Or Wasabe? You see where I'm going with the condiment theme, right?!

Anonymous said...

Oh, I know RW.

She'd say: My Ass or something equally as hilarious.

I've figured out that the my ass thing only works at certain points in the conversation.

Fimble Star said...

didnt we need a sweet relish to start the condiment war mib, you could have that name anon

lol only kiddin

Andrea said...

Good morning All. Hello Mayo.

Anon, you wouldn't be a certain masked anon from another blog, would you?

Anonymous said...

Tabasco? Lol
Maybe we should name anon that XD

Anonymous said...

Oh Star, you are RIGHT!

Anon, my I dub thee Pickle Relish?

Unless you are our Latin Lover, then you are Sweet & Spicy Sauce ;)

Anonymous said...

Good morning andrea, how are you?

Anonymous said...

I like pickle relish ^_^

Anonymous said...

Eh, fuck.

I meant to say *may I dub thee.

I can blame all of my misspellings today on the time change.

Anonymous said...

Unless we want to get into the Spices or Seasoning realm, then I'd say Oregano, or Tarragon

Andrea said...

I'm alright. I didn't sleep well and now I'm feeling a bit bleary eyed. All will be better when my morning cup of tea is ready.

How are you BC? How is everyone else?

Anonymous said...

Do you think if I asked Mayo nicely, he would rub my neck?

So Mayo, how about it?

Andrea said...

Mmm... sweet & spicy.

*licks lips*

elena said...

Anon- Why is it nothing new to get strange looks?

Anonymous said...

What are you hinting at "Sweet & Spicy"?

You've thrown up a red flag. Was this your intent?

Andrea said...

BC, remember when I said I wasn't going to do this? *shakes head* I should learn to stick with my decisions.

Anonymous said...

Oh my, Sweet & Spicy!

Anonymous said...

Hello there sweet and spicy ^_^
Andrea, I feel the same. A little bit bleary, because of daylight savings time change. I curse whoever invented it in the first place.

Anonymous said...

Lol that's right andrea. What caused you to visit this blog again? :D

Anonymous said...

No red flag intended. Please feel free to choose another...I am comfortable to revert back to anon if you are.

Magic Pie said...

sweet and spicy, if Mayo's rubbing your neck then he must also rub my back.

Elena - I'm just an idiot. I always get strange looks!

resurrected wreck said...

did anyone else see that mayo has change his profile.

I noticed that. Looks like a reference to Sdock10 to me.

Anonymous said...

Nope S&S. You may keep it, but realize you must be careful with that name :)

I'd rather have you labeled, than accidentally jump on your ass.

It's all shits and giggles here.

Andrea said...

I don't know, BC, I'm a glutton for punishment. If I get in under the first 100 or so, it's not too bad. When it gets over the first couple hundred, I just can't deal anymore. I guess today I had better timing than usual - usually the chaos has already started before I arrive.

Anonymous said...

Hey RW, what's the countdown on your trip?

Now I see MIB, I was confused before.

Anonymous said...

sweet & spicy,

Was this you?

"Anonymous said...

P.S. Do I still have you wondering about me?"

Anonymous said...

Mayo changed that last night you guys, while we were still in the other blog. We all thought it was in reference to her as well. You can go see everyone's thoughts on it. It's towards the end of the last post.

resurrected wreck said...

Hey RW, what's the countdown on your trip?

Four more days, Star. Starting to get excited now :D

Magic Pie said...

Oh Mayo, one day I hope that you reference a magical pie of some sorts in your profile :P

Anonymous said...

Anonymous, he changed his profile last night. Andrea, the temptation of these blogs can be a bit too much indeed ^_^

Anonymous said...

Oooh, ooh, RW! Will you have access to a computer while you're there? I will miss you if you don't!

elena said...

Sweet & Spicy - I can relate to that. Until a year ago I looked like every other mom in my small town. Not anymore and I've got to say I'm liking it. Better late than never, I guess.

Anonymous said...

Magic Pie. Your name always reminds me of The Beatles.

Magic Pie said...

Mustard, my name actually comes from the Oasis song, Magic Pie.

resurrected wreck said...

Four more days... Which reminds me: Hey Mayo & SS, if on the evening of Nov. 15th you happen to be in the vicinity of the O2 Arena in London & you catch a glimpse of a short purple-haired chick in full Black Parade gear, give her a nod or somehting, will you? It took her several nights of skull-crunching to break in her hat ;)

Anonymous said...

I agree Andrea, it is cozy and intimate here this evening. I feel welcome and comfortable in your company.

resurrected wreck said...

Oooh, ooh, RW! Will you have access to a computer while you're there? I will miss you if you don't!

If I do, I expect it will be limited. I don't know if my friend has Internet at home. And if she does, I don't think it would be polite to sned the amount of time on it that I do here.

So... I may be 9 days wihtout it. I'll miss you guys :( And I'll be Soooo behind once I'm back and try to catch up :/

Anonymous said...

...and while I am thinking about it, do not address sweet & spicy as ss you can see where that would get confusing.

Anonymous said...

S&S:

Are you now an Anonymous again?

Anonymous said...

^ That was me. I will have to bid you farewell soon I'm afraid.

Anonymous said...

RW will show you her head wounds all done in the name of fashion and MCR!

Anonymous said...

No need to rush off, you know.

That's why I stated that you must be careful with choosing that name.

Come back soon. It's been a pleasure.

Andrea said...

I'm glad you feel welcome, anonymous. Many times I don't feel welcome myself. Not because of the people - you're all lovely and wonderful people. But the number of the comments and tangents of the discussions... I just get overwhelmed. When I can't keep up, it seems useless to join in. Know what I mean?

Anyway, today things are pretty nice here. It's been a while since I really enjoyed visiting this blog like I do today.

Anon, do we need to pick a new name for you?

Magic Pie said...

On a random note...way too many onions are been cut up at my house and my eyes are burning.

Not that anyone cares but I'm in a complaining mood :P

Anonymous said...

RW, I'll keep a running diary and email it to you!

Anonymous said...

You are welcome to come back anytime soon anonymous.

Andrea said...

I just read something about an onion in a comment on BC's blog. Do you have Mikey Way in your kitchen?

^_^

Anonymous said...

Sweet and spicy. Hmm, tasty. I like it.

Gotta take it easy on the neck, hon. Mayo does look like he's got good hands, maybe he can help you out.

J.

Fimble Star said...

why are you cutting onions mp oh and do you like oasis. i love oasis one of my favourite bands. i can always tell if a song is an oasis song just by listening to the start and how they play their guitars. love them

Magic Pie said...

hahaha Andrea, how did you know? I kidnapped Mikey last night and I'm forcing him to make me French onion soup.

Anonymous said...

Whaahahahah!!!

That was my comment Andrea. But...Magic Pie? Do you have Mikey Way at your house?

Anonymous said...

Ouch, magic pie. I have allergies and chopping onions kills me! I need googles!

Anonymous said...

I am aware some people have a penchant for 'borrowing' the names of others. So for the record, I will never use the name sweet & spicy again.

Magic Pie said...

Fimble Star, my mother is cutting the onions.

Yes I love Oasis. Didn't we discuss that in the Kickball team blog?

elena said...

Please stop by again Sweet & Spicy. It's been nice hearing a new voice.

Magic Pie said...

Googles? lol

resurrected wreck said...

RW, I'll keep a running diary and email it to you!

Thank you, Star :)

Do you have my email addy?

Andrea said...

Mmm... french onion soup sounds pretty good today. It's a little chilly outside.

Will Mikey Way melt some provolone on that soup?

Fimble Star said...

i think we did but they are just to cool for school. lol

Magic Pie said...

Yes Mustard. Mikey is making me French Onion soup while wearing leather chaps. No wait a minute....

Anonymous said...

S&S:

You may use that name as no one can tell you who to be, but you must be careful how you present yourself, as that name has been associated with someone else by its letters. I can think of another condiment if you like?

Anonymous said...

RAHAHAHA! Magic Pie!
I meant GOGGLES!
that was funny.

No, RW, is it on your profile?

Anonymous said...

Thanks, RW, bye!

Andrea said...

Lol, magic pie!

I might be interested in an Oasis DVD. I'm not as huge a fan as some, but I've always liked their music and been interested in their story.

I have a friend in a band who is an Oasis fanatic and he tries way too hard to sound like Liam Gallagher when he sings. *rolls eyes*

Anonymous said...

They came from a store called Northbound Leather. I told Mikey that if he didn't wear them, I'd hurt his pet rock.

First laugh of the day! If Mikey had a pet rock, I bet he named it Lester.

Magic Pie said...

hahaha I used to try to do the Liam snarl. just doesn't work. lol

MIB, i don't think so. I was thinking of the confusion btween S & S and SS, but I didn't want to say anything. It's all good, I think. He/She seems pretty easygoing.

Mr. Fuzzykins?

What the hell?!

Mikey, the real one, will for sure murder you in your sleep for naming his non-existent pet rock Mr. Fuzzykins...and for having him wear leather chaps.

Ok, now I'm just taking it too far.

I love you SS!

Anonymous said...

Anon, the reason he chose that name is because I gave it to him as an option if he was our "Latin Lover." His next post after that, he chose "Sweet & Spicy." I told him to be careful with it, that it might cause some confusion. He didn't choose that all on his own :)

Your comment made me laugh so loud that I just got some very odd looks! Nothing new, I suppose.

Can you imagine if they were both sitting with laptops in the same room reading this! That would be so freakin hilarious! Especially as he was asking mayo for a massage! Kinky!

Fans should not be afraid of their bands, bands should be afraid of their fans.

We figure out all the crazy shit.

anon, your new name should be Fox Muldur.

Okay, here's the deal.

Back a while ago, MissT and I were trying to think up a condiment name for SS. We were trying to match the letters Sweet and Sour. MissT didn't like Sour, so we changed it to Sweet and Spicy.

The Anon came in and asked for a name. Star thought about sticking with the condiment theme. I posted that he should be called Pickle Relish UNLESS he was our "Latin Lover," then he could be Sweet and Spicy Sauce.

The next post he made, he made it as sweet & spicy.

I told him that he threw up a red flag, was it intended? He said that it wasn't, that if his name was a problem, he'd go back to being Anonymous. I said there was no need, just to be careful.

But, as you can see, that was in all likelyhood the reason he chose Sweet & Spicy out of the choices we all gave him. That was obviously "The Ghost"

I love it!

... unless you're female. Would you prefer Dana Scully?

I love X-Files too. ^_^

Then believe...Just believe

Magic Pie said...

Mulder and Scully = Gerard and Frank, no?

Anonymous said...

Sorry I was late with that.

But, the visual of both Gerard and Frank sitting in the same room watching this shit go down makes me laugh.

Anonymous said...

Anon, what are we to believe?

Andrea said...

I prefer to think of Gerard and Frank as the mystery we are all trying to solve. I guess that would make us all Muldur and Scully.

I am female, but I used to have such a crush on Mulder!

lol definitely. Imagine if Mikey was reading this and he saw my comments about him in leather chaps with a pet rock?!
