Crossing-over

I am certain that when I die I will become dirt. It would be nice to consider that upon my death golden open arms will greet me, enfolding me into them like a lost child finally returned home, but that’s not how I think. Never has been. It is completely incomprehensible for me to consider that once my life is over I will hang out watching the goings on down at earth while white silk draped, halo wearing, beings circle my head before diving down to intervene in someone or another’s life.

But, I can see the appeal.

And I am relatively certain I won’t burn in eternal damnation, either. Although that option is better suited to my personality and preferential if in fact my theory fails.

What motivates me is here and now...in what I intend as a reciprocal exchange.

This reminds me to ask myself “why am I even here?” I suppose one purpose is to procreate, to replenish human stock while in turn passing on my unique, somewhat maladaptive, genetic map to ensure the future of our type. But, at our current population rate, I do not see human extinction as a concern (that is not to say we won’t run out of natural resources thereby resulting in human extinction through overpopulation). So, as many population experts suggest, I will only replace myself. Although, it was never something I gave much thought.

So, why then? I have no other and a million ideas.

And, I do have considerations beyond the here and now; I get a kick out of the prospect that my progeny might proffer our future world. That, and who will take care of me when I can no longer find my ass?

I hope that I am doing a good job, that all my experience, everything that I have to give, and all that I create proves worthy beyond my own value. I want there to be some “take-away” meaning from how I live. And when I die the only “place” I want to spend eternity is ardently recalled in the generous conversation of my family and friends.

p.s. prosperous just like him.

ergoproxy said...

oh they sound nice

I have already planted out an azalea and a gardenia
plus a purple daisy up by the house
the ones we are putting down the front are natives called grevillea

Winpara GEn
pink flamingo
splendour
and pink pearl

they are really good bird attracting flowers, have heaps of nectar and can tolerate dry conditions. They are small but grow out into bushes up to 8 foot tall, but you can prune them lower

Martha Smith-Jones said...

I want those flowers

Martha Smith-Jones said...

I want bees and butterflies

Anonymous said...

Those darling little birds must really enjoy sucking those flowers.

Martha Smith-Jones said...

Anonymous said...

Don't celebrate halloween were you live 2:11? No masks. No costumes. You're missing out.

ergoproxy said...

look up butterfly attracting flowers for your area, I can 't help, though if you could get grevilleas over there they'd grow well where you are, there are heaps of colours now, the original ones were pretty much a yellow /orange, they do grow wild and love the coast, they are very salt tolerant as well as dry. So are banksia and they attract stuff too.
I like grevillea flowers they are very abstract.

Anonymous said...

mmmmmm
imagine all the delicious nectar waiting in the walls of those beautiful flowers. for bees and butterflies.

Mayo

Did you see the sunrise this morning? Did you watch the sunset? Have you looked at the moon tonight or glanced up at the stars? Ask me the same questions and I would answer “no”. I always tell myself I will get up early to see the sunrise but I never do. At nightfall I always seem to be too busy to watch the sunset. Right now here I sit instead of standing in the wet grass gazing up. Don’t be like me. My life is passing in a blur and I’ve missed so many of the simple pleasures trying to make it something it will never be. Trying to make it something that I know in my heart I wouldn’t really want. Why do I continue to strive for things out of my reach? Why can’t I slow down? Why do I ask why so damn often? (Feel free to jump in here if you have an answer)

Okay then since I have no answers and too damn many questions tonight I’ll just say goodnight and be on my way. Take care.

elena, when igot my hair done last week, my stylist and i were talking ghosts (there are a shit-ton here in town apparently!) and i was telling him about your ghosts (john and the girls, mostly), how you bought ghost-hunting equipment and visit cemeteries to use it...he was totally impressed. :)

gots to go, see you guys tonight!

and oh my god, will everyone at maxwell's think i'm a poser??????

um. sometimes i get a little carried away with the details.

mayo,

today was an absolute do-nothing day. i slept later than i have in a long time (and i wasn't even sick!), and though i have a few things i want to get done this weekend, i didn't do a one.

and it felt so nice.

i don't know, maybe because i'm doing more at the shop now that i'm always there by myself, maybe because i've been running around getting ready for my little trip, but today didn't bother me like it usually would. today i didn't feel like a waste, today i just let the world get on with its business without me, and i sat back and watched it.

i guess we all need a lazy day every once in awhile, don't we?

hope you get them when you need them, mayo, and hope too that you have a wonderful day tomorrow.

i am not going to miss seeing these guys.

i'll send you customer vibes if you send me cheap safe hotel vibes, elena!

Don't worry I'm sure it will all work out and you are gonna have a great time.

Please send me some positive vibes for GOOD customers. So far the ones that have been here do not fit that description at all. Can't count the number of times I've rolled my eyes so far. Seriously why wouldn't they have to pay tax? Why is $8.00 for the brand new Patterson HB too much? Okay I kinda lost it on that one. She asked why she had to pay that much and I said nicely "You don't. You can go to Barns and Nobel and pay $27.99 if you like"

You bought the book. I'm still rolling my eyes.

Oh well enjoy your lunch TJ

Hiya Wendy, how's the world treating you?

MissTottenham said...

So, still no news from the police. I should try to be calm cos it has only been two weeks and we do have a postal strike on. But it does make you nervous every time the postman arrives.

Now, the latest is that bad neighbour has been quiet for over a week. That's a good thing. The bad thing is that whatever he's up to has disturbed his rats and I saw one in our kitchen last night. I saw his big brown bum vanish behind the cooker as I switched the light on. There were droppings under the table this morning. We haven't seen any before so we know they've only just got in.

I rang the environmental health today and they are coming tomorrow. They'd better get the things. Mum is freaking out big time. Now I can understand why people slap shrieking women. I'm resorting to the "I'm not talking to you when you are in this state woman" method.

MissT: I hate to ask; but, has anyone actually SEEN this neighbor recently? If not, perhaps you should call the authorities to go check what has disturbed those rats (or why they're roaming)! Is there a "bad smell" coming from his place?

O_O

I really hope you hear some good news soon, MissT!!!! It probably is that postal strike holding things up!

I must be off for now. You have a good night and tell your mom those rats are just squirrels with skinny tails! Picture them fluffy tails and they'll be cute. Those fluffy tails make all the difference! Well, if you don't think about the diseases parasites that live on rats can carry...

Did I tell you about my amazing powers of smell. It only works with pizza though. I can sniff out a pizza delivery driver a mile away LOL.

Well heck, MissT!!! I can do that too!!! It's my extra sensitive canis lupus sense of smell! We must be related!

:)

*snogs her newly found relative/pack member*

It was so good "catching" you, MissT!!!!! I'll "see" you soon, I hope!

Unfortunatley Wendy, just after I typed that hie music started.

He's been up to something though to keep him quiet and dislodge the rats. Whenever we've had a rat in the past, it's always cos he's been moving stuff. God knows how many he's got in his house. makes me shudder to think.

It was great chatting, you take care Wendy and I'll catch you soon.

And with that I shall say nighty night too. I gotta be up early for the environmental health peeps.

Bye!!!!!! xxxxxx

morning all!!

hi wendy

hi missT

good to see I'm not alone, Top Gear is a great show but damn, could he be any more adorable!!
Plus he gets hot cars!!
*sigh*

hope the rat problem gets sorted, how awful, we get them in the shed but fortunately never in the house, mice sometimes though. Perhaps I could send over carpet python, he keeps our rats in check.
Hope you hear from the police soon, the postal strike can't be helping. Still got fingers crossed for you

elena, sending you good customer vibes, and I don't blame your eye rolling at all!!

hey TJ, hope your plans stop shifting, sending you you safe cheap hotel vibes as well

7:18 default anon, will have to have a look later

I'm off to see UP today

elena said...

Hey guys thanks for the "good customer" vibes. It has worked. I've had lots of customers spending money today. However the last guy who was just paid didn't have enough so he had to go out to his car. He returned with a bag of change. Now I don't mind change at all, it was 3.35 cents, but the fact that the coins were stuck together was a bit weird. He said they were sticky because he spilled soda on them. (hope that was true)

Anyway I used germ-x on the coins to unsticky them. Did you know it turns coins pink?

ergoproxy said...

hahaha
elena the things you discover! And I do hope I was soda O_O
did it clean all the tarnish off the coins?

There are no words to describe how i feel right now.

I m trying to do 15 things at once and it is getting to me. People are asking me to do things that just can't be done.

elena said...

MJ just explain to them how you feel. Tell them you're sorry but you can't do what they want. It might not work but at least you are being honest with them.

Man, I have a SERIOUS craving for good Italian food.

Light thinks it travels faster than anything but it is wrong. No matter how fast light travels, it finds the darkness has always got there first, and is waiting for it.

ergoproxy said...

Hi amy!

MJ how about the word "frazzled"?
and what elena said
you can only do so much

Martha Smith-Jones said...

Hello amy how are you.

EP that won't work. I already told them it can't be done. They said try.

Martha Smith-Jones said...

Sorry I got EP and Elena mixed up.

Anon i think the dark is just so big that it seems like it gets there first. Really it is just this big fat thing that sits there.

If you can get past the dead animal flapping about on the back of Gerard's head, this is actually a pretty good video from Japan

Do those guys really hate Gerard so much that they would let him continue to go on stage with hair looking like that? I thought they guy had a least a couple of real friends left.

I'd like to see the hairbrush that could make it through that rat's nest, and if by his hair, you really mean his fake hair, then, yeah, okay.

Kids, do you see why it's really important to at least have one true friend in your life?

Martha Smith-Jones said...

Friends don't let friends out in public looking fucked up.

Friends don't let friends go out in public looking fucked up by themselves. Try to keep that one friend that looks way more fucked up than you do.

elena said...

That is some weird shit MJ. LOL the Meat Baby.

Anon I just remembered something. They used to make a electric detangler. I just had to have one when I was young for Christmas. The damn thing really didn't work and crap if you got it stuck in your hair it was hell to get out. But maybe that would work on his hair. As for fake hair...I don't think so. I think that's his own clump of matted hair.

BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Martha Smith-Jones said...

8.34 that explains a lot.

Elena that was odd the meat baby. I think i will have nightmares now. the lego cello was cool

I think that's his own clump of matted hair.

Then that makes him a nasty, lazy, greasy bastard with some seriously "fucked up hair".

And to think, he used to bang a hairdresser.

elena said...

Yeah the lego cello was cool. But the lap pillow was disturbing.

Martha Smith-Jones said...

NO, the baby all the way. Or the reusable pokemon pad

Martha Smith-Jones said...

brb

elena said...

Wow just cause the dude didn't brush his hair he's all those things? Sorry I just don't think his hair is all that important. And anyway, just don't walk behind him and it's all good.

Gotta go for a bit. Catch you all later.

Wish you were here said...

Miss T, I hope the rat thing gets sorted for you. I've never suffered with those but we did get a few mice from a neighbour once, and if they can chew a hole in the floor I should think a rat can, so fingers crossed for no damage for you.

Anon, does it matter about Gerard's hair, really? Whatever you think of his singing/performance, I'm sure it's not affected by his hair, so it's really not that important. If he hated it that much, he'd surely get rid of it, therefore, by default, he either likes it or doesn't care either way. Would you get rid of something you liked just because other people didn't? I think it looks awful, personally, but it doesn't stop them being a band so it's not an issue.

Kids, do you see why it's really important to at least have one true friend in your life?
Yes, anon, because true friends will like you even if your hair looks...like that.

Hi Ergo, Wendy, Miss T, TJ, L, Elena, J, MJ, Mya, Amy, BC...anons, everyone...Lewis? You still gone? Mayo, SS, hope everyone's having a great day/night

We are young and we don't care

Your dreams and your fucked up hair

Not sure how that fits but whatever-it's just hair.

Anonymous said...

I don't know, anon. Is it?

Anonymous said...

the way you know you have found the right one is the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with the person.

Having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words, but pouring them all right out, just as they are, chaff and grain together; certain that a faithful hand will take and sift them, keep what is worth keeping, and then with the breath of kindness blow the rest away. - a quote by Dinah Craik

Martha Smith-Jones said...

Hello Wish how are you.

As for the hair thing. When he said fucked up hair I was thinking a god awful hair cut. Not I don't brush or wash my hair. Maybe somebody who has unruly hair.

It comes across as lazy because he can't even take the time to just brush or comb the mats. I know that it isn't that time consuming to do that. It my hurt a little hey you were the one who didn't brush your hair.

Nasty because if you used a shampoo and conditioner his hair wouldn't do that so it would appear he can't take the time to wash it either.

Yeah it is his hair but people do treat you better when you take the time to take care of your appearance even a little bit.

And people who don't bath stink and all the rest of us have to deal with that.
