tic-tac-toe

Nothing provokes me like someone trying to tell me what I can or can’t do. And I am not talking about “Eat your vegetables”, “Take out the trash”, "Don't run a red light", "Don't steal shit", or "Don't stick a knife in someone" (well maybe the red light thing, once). That stuff is important and I get that. What I mean is when someone is attempting to assert control over me, primarily for their own gains or because they consider my actions irrelevant, then I am full-on instigated.

In fact, I can be a bit immature when confronted with authority. A holdover from adolescence, I presume. For the most part, because I am an adult I am able to identify when the limitations being placed on me are legitimate and necessary. And I bite my tongue.

But, nothing pleases me more than to shove it in the face of whatever or whoever attempts to assert unnecessary control over me. Tell me I’m too old to do something, to act a certain way, then you can bet I’ll be first in line. Tell me what I say is irrelevant and I’ll carry on until I find an ear. Attempt to limit my behavior because you don’t consider me worthy and I’ll increase my efforts until you are red faced.

What amazes me is that they (those attempting control) do not understand that their assertions invariably expose their hot buttons. See, now I know what pisses you off and I can be an asshole, so there you go. But, like I said, I can be a bit immature.

Also, I find it unnecessary for someone to belittle a person because their opinion does not run parallel to their own. Typically, name calling will get you nowhere. We are each entitled to our own beliefs, and our opinions will undoubtedly run counter to other's. And if I don't agree, I'll let you know. I'll give you my point of view and perhaps some facts that I may have squirreled away for the occasion to back it up.

Usually this works and we can agree to disagree. But, if you are maliciously handing me my head over and over about whatever burns your ass, then I will most likely ignore you.

That works in two ways. First, I don't hear you any longer. I can continue my life knowing that I made an attempt to express my opinion. And hopefully you now realize you are not going to change mine. Second, I don't hear you any longer.

Then later, under my breath, I'll call you an idiot. And let's face it, if after all that you still think you can change my opinion...well now, we don't need to go there. Just for the record, I won't try to change yours, either. Your opinion, that is.

With all that being said, (and feel free to ignore any of it) please keep in mind that I am a bit of a smart ass. And I have been known to dish out a good natured hard-time. If you poke me, I'll poke you back...sometimes I poke first.

I think I read somewhere something along the lines of...we need to be able to best deal with those things that impact us emotionally, and we need to handle them ourselves. As individuals the decisions we make are what we can control. The rest is up to the rest.

p.s. ask yourself.

Pete, the personal rancor reflected in that remark I don't intend to dignify with a comment. But I would like to address your general attitude of hopeless negativism. Consider the lilies of the goddamn field or... hell! Take a look at Delmar here as your paradigm of hope.

And the universe will continue on.

Pluto will be reclassified as a planet and all will be as it should.

Anonymous said...

You know, if I ruled things, I would reclassify Pluto as a planet actually. I thought it was pretty mean to take away its planetary status.

And after all, Pluto is MY planet. (And yours too, Smokles.)

It's funny because Square tends to make beautiful male characters, and female characters that are cute or pretty, but rarely (unless they are supposed to be either cold, or goddesses,) as beautiful as the men.

Very strange.

FF anon, check it out.

The ending of Crisis Core which is the backstory of FFVII, done in 2007-8.

(Okay, it kills me a little when Aeris somehow realizes that her boyfriend is dying. And you know that this game leaves off where the original FFVII picks up [Cloud out of his mind, believing that he is Zack, riding the top of the train into Midgar,] so you realize that she's going to be joining him in a few months.)

But now check this out! This is how that same scene was rendered in the original game in 1997!

SO NEAT.

Many praise the president's $15 billion effort to prevent, treat the disease

updated 11:25 a.m. PT, Sun., Jan. 11, 2009
CAPE TOWN, South Africa - In her AIDS-scarred South African township, Sweetness Mzolisa leads a chorus of praise for George W. Bush that echoes to the deserts of Namibia, the hills of Rwanda and the villages of Ethiopia.

Like countless Africans, Mzolisa looks forward to Barack Obama becoming America's first black president Jan 20. But — like countless Africans — Mzolisa says she will always be grateful to Bush for his war on AIDS, which has helped to treat more than 2 million Africans, support 10 million more, and revitalize the global fight against the disease.
"It has done a lot for the people of South Africa, for the whole of the African continent," says Mzolisa, a feisty mother of seven. "It has changed so many people's lives, saved so many people's lives."

Besides PEPFAR, Bush has launched a five-year, $1.2 billion initiative to cut malaria deaths in 15 African nations by half.

Dybul also says it is unfair to accuse the U.S. of overemphasizing abstinence because PEPFAR is a major supplier of condoms to the targeted African countries. For instance, PEPFAR figures show 60 million condoms going to Zambia, 40 million to Rwanda, 145 million to Ethiopia in the past five years.
Some critics, like rockers-turned-advocates Bono and Bob Geldof, have become admirers.

Now you see, this is the original opening to the original Final Fantasy VII, 1997. This is what all of us old-schoolers saw the first time we fired it up, and back then the animation and gameplay were stellar, for its time!

But, forget about the animation and the gameplay for a while. When the bunch of us fired this up for the first time, it was just some cool and different (and difficult) game and no one knew--not even Square Enix, which was called "Square-Soft" back then--knew that it was going to be such a huge game. Square didn't realize they had a masterpiece because they hadn't set out to make one.

Anyway, it begins with a 3D model of stars, because they had only just learned to animate in 3D, and 8-way directional movement was still kind of newish at the time. Then it goes to these green sparks and you see this lady staring through them. You hear these three notes that are the beginning of the Final Fantasy VII theme. It pans out and you see Aeris (these days, "Aerith,") and she's looking at a malfunctioning outlet that is shooting off green sparks. They are green because the power source in the game is Mako, energy that ShinRa is sucking up from the planet, destroying it. It pans out further and you see her walk out into this alley of a slum city; soon you see the entire city of Midgar, with a plate on top of it where the rich people live, surrounded by seven Mako reactors, and oh my gosh, the music! To me, the beginning is the best part or the game.

Aerith was in Sector five. It pans back in to Sector one where you see a train coming in. And as it comes to a stop, the main character, Cloud, jumps off the top of it, and then from then on, the gameplay is in your hands.

It was a very unassuming beginning.

The first three notes, and the exact same scene with the green sparks, are repeated in the last scene of the game, after Aerith has been killed and Midgar has been destroyed by Sephiroth's meteor that he summoned. It would have destroyed the entire planet if the Lifestream hadn't come out from the center of the planet to stop the destruction. Then you see Aerith again, but this time the green sparks are the Lifestream, which is where souls go when they die and you realize that she's the one who summoned the Lifestream to save the planet, which she could only have done if she was dead.

Sweet.

Well as I said, Crisis Core is the prequel to Final Fantasy VII: beautifully rendered and with tons of flashbacks that beautifully render scenes that we'd already played through over ten years ago. And as the ending to Crisis Core is the beginning of Final Fantasy VII, they re-animated and re-rendered the entire opening sequence, also. (I added the little e3 demo of the train-jumping scene, which is not shown in CC. Just because I could.)

To tell you the truth, I think I'll always love the original the best. And honestly, the music gets me going more than the visuals anyway. It's so majestic and when you look at it in retrospect and you realize that this triumvirate of Amano, Nomura and Uematsu didn't actually know what they'd gotten their hands on with this, or how much it would grow, why then that entire opening sequence it kind of gives you the shivers.

This means nothing to anyone but me, of course. I'm just about the biggest geek I know of when it comes to stuff I love, stuff that gets me all emotional.

And I'm sorry if I'm babbling but it is already WAY past my bed time and I have to get up early and so I really should just go to bed. Sorry I followed my inner dork!

Not really though. ;D

Oh! And that's the music I try to have playing when I go past that ugly gas turbine refinery thing on the LIE. ;D

You may laugh.

Hello! My name is Briana, or Bre for short. Whatever you chose is fine with me. I'm seventeen soon to be eighteen on April 9th, yata!! My aunt fully admits that she does make mistakes; she is not perfect and neither am I. However, if that makes he psycho, then so be it... but i guess that makes you one too!! hahaha!

Oh, and hello B.C., Mya, Amy, and The Original Punks! I have heard so many good things about you... not that i can say the same for some others, but alas, that is how the cookie crumbles.

Know what it is yet??? HAHAHAHA!! that's right i'm a yaoi fan! nyaa!
That means... erm, well if you don't know, then you probably don't want to know. Sorry if that offends anyone, i won't flaunt it or anything, it's just ma name bro! So DEAL!

Guess that makes me psycho, huh? lol *nyaa!

One of my favorite quotes by a brilliant children's author who has, throughout the years, taught children many valuable life lessons:

*A person's a person, no matter how small* Dr. Seuss

Also i adamantly believe in God, and i don't care what anyone's got to say about that. If you don't, fine. DON'T BOTER ME WITH YOUR COMPLAINTS. Okay *smiley*

My ending thoughts:
*In my world, everyone's a pony and they all eat rainbows and poop butterflies*
So welcome to MY WOLRD!

Nope, no one- eyed people or anything. Boo :/

Alright, alright. I get your point. It may be rude, but it's true what i said, and it's true i have an attitude. I'm seventeen, what do you expect, British ettiquete? (No offense to any British people, i love them, truely.) However, i only whip it out when i need it.

Anonymous said...

You mess with my niece, you bet I'm gonna start an attitude.

She is 17. She is smart, kind, compassionate and amazingly talented.

You call her rude? What about the women twice her age who have done much, much worse? Do you ever call them out?

Amyranth said...

12:37, you mean like his mother?

Sorry, but if you're going to call Wendy on something like that, maybe, like the anon said, you could be defensive without being offensive.

Now, let's have a really good conversation, about... hmmm...

....

Valentine's Day. Worst Valentine's Gift ever!

I'll 'fess up. My ex wasn't exactly... well. He's my ex for a reason. Our first Valentine's Day rolled around and he invited me over and gave me a single red rose. I was so happy I almost cried because, being young at the time, I thought this meant he was in love with me.

Until she showed me the new PS1 game he'd bought himself, to the tune of $60. He said, "I lucked out! I got my game I've been saving for and I was able to get you a flower too!!"

Oyy...

Anonymous said...

I'm here to do that! They feel like some big powerful person for trying to make a 17 year old (wonderful person) feel bad? Let them. It says a lot about them.

And Amy. yea, it seems that way about the internet, doesn't it. I didn't really start getting on the internet constantly until i was like, 15 i guess. But, i guess that is still kinds young, for all the stuff that's floating around out there.

Amyranth said...

12:42, you've seen some of the things that have happened here. Not to me, but to others. I find it hard to keep that from getting under my skin.

Honestly, I don't really worry when someone says anything about me. I haven't for a very long time. You're not gonna get far in this world if you do either, in my opinion.

Anonymous said...

Yeah, right!

Who did my niece insult? She told you all how she felt. Her views of the world. Her beliefs. She thanked the people she heard me mention for being my friends.

It's okay for a 36 year old woman to say whatever the hell she wants. To offend as many people as she wants; but, a teenager can't dare say a thing about their beliefs? They can't defend their "family".

Yeah. I should have known.

Anonymous said...

12:42,

That just goes to show you that you really don't know anyone here, and just because you misread some of the comments as being rude, that doesn't mean that they're like that in person.

Wendy is a sweet and caring person.

My niece will never, should never be required to apologize for being who she is. For being a young lady who will stand up for her family, her friends and her beliefs. For being a young lady who is proud of her heritage and her country. For being smart, talented and BEAUTIFUL!

Yes, MEN aren't the only ones who can be attractive and smart.

She will speak her mind, when, where and how she pleases. Much like me and you.

Anonymous said...

I loves you too sugarplum. Goodnight and sweet dreams to you and Bri

Anonymous said...

So, 12:53, would you say I'd gotten under your skin?

Not at all. I'm not advocating not calling up on someone's shitty behavior. No one is a saint. Sometimes you have to reflect and try to work out what it is about that person that is triggering so much anger towards them.

And apart from that, sometimes you have to work out how best to approach them, or if it's really worth it after you have said your peace. Especially if they are dismissive of you.

Amyranth said...

*laughs*

BC and Aku, at the time, I was bloody furious, but we were both kids. Understandable now that I'm older, and the main reason why I don't do V-Day. I just don't think it's right to make Mister live up to my expectations of romance once a year.

He has to do it all year long, which is much nicer, don't y'all agree? ;)

Anonymous said...

Listen to her, Amy! She would do it!!! She DOES take after me!

Amyranth said...

And apart from that, sometimes you have to work out how best to approach them, or if it's really worth it after you have said your peace. Especially if they are dismissive of you.

If they are dismissive of me, but continue to take potshots, or issue veiled comments, or otherwise attempt to instigate something, then I will continue to speak up.

Like my father says, "Don't poke the bear."

okay, fine. if YOU insist on seeing it as an insult, fine. go ahead. That doesn't mean you have to keep imposing your INTERPRETATION of my statement ( which, since it is my statement, i know how it was meant, as stated earlier, that it was a simple statement and not meant as an insult) on everyone else in the blog.
leave it be. if you find it so insulting, then i guess that's just how you see it.
but as i've said before, it was not meant to be an insult. There is no simpler way to explain this.

12.53 if you have stood up for them why are you now calling them crazy bitches. Her comment about not being able to say nice things about everyone could have been about anons. Like the ones who have been calling people names. You went and took it to mean someone else and brought up all the shit all over again.

It makes it look like you wanted to start shit where three might have not been any. Because of that I find it hard to believe that you have stuck up for them. If you had you wouldn't have so easily turned on them and called them crazy bitches.

looking at that comment I would say that the person was trying to be funny and didn't mean it in the way you are taking it. I saw it as her making a joke about the people she likes being called bitches. Not calling everyone a bitch.

Hold your head up, call out the behavior, not the person. Ultimately if someone effects you that much, they are invisibly controlling you, even though you don't realize it.
