You couldn't shut me up if you tried.

As any good poem will do, I was moved to another place. Taken back to a day long ago when I was twelve, no maybe eleven, and had spent a good portion of the afternoon alone foraging around in the yard. Aside from some awkward social issues, I was content (even the social issues contented me because it gave me the excuse to be alone). So that particular day, standing in my yard, breathing in the warm fresh air of spring, I recall being rained upon by helicopters. I collected them all in a box, or perhaps it was a bucket, and climbed my favorite tree as high as I could and re-released them to the ground. It was my intention to allow them a second flight, to once again be aloft.

It is amazing how similar we are, humans. Inhale (I’m), exhale (here). At the very core we exist, our attempts to make our lives enjoyable or in some instances passable should be worthy. Take it in, the amazing, the simple, the meaningful and give it away, just the same.

As I have said (and as some have speculated) I am privileged to have a few places to spout off (last count...Three, “oh lucky me.”). Of course, some of my words were never intended to be read by anyone other than the one I wrote them for and in some cases no one at all. These places have never intersected, until now. I have been reminded to rip myself open. So, I have gathered up these words for a second flight.

Her fingers weave through my hair
And her breath is a reminder (that I breathe)
In and out, slow and almost silent

I'm

h e r e

I'm

h e r e

I'm

h e r e

Her evening promise
brings me rest.
When I wake, whenever that may be
I can tell her anything
and she believes
And I understand
the weight of trust.
She begs me for more,
more anything, more everything
and I oblige, within reason
I can give endlessly
and she will return the favor.
She is at once present
and future entwined
For years in the making
and each moment a step
closer to letting go.

p.s. but once I am dead, Dis.

The written word, in any form, is a powerful gift. But, it can also destroy.

Since when is there a correlation between being fat and being loved? (which she is not)

So she is not fat AND she is not loved.

and I have a clothesline full (4 loads) of clothes that are now all wet :(

but apart from that life is hunky dory! :)

Hi Ergo.

Please don't speak of rain; we have had more than our fair share.

What's happened to your oven?

Ergo, the day will get better.

I woke up to a rainy day, and ended up with a Dyson.

ergoproxy said...

GS day after mothers day it went kaput! So for 2 weeks I have not had an oven , the hotplates still work though thank goodness, so I have to either bake/roast on the BBQ or use the slow cooker etc. It's not too bad except I really like baking things in wet weather. I made bread yesterday but used the breadmaker and it's no where near as nice as kneading and proving myself. I feel like making biscuits, oh well I have a couple more weeks before our new one gets put in so I'll have to cope :)

missT I'm technically not exactly wet at this precise moment ;) but yeah everything is good, it's cool and I'm pottering about the house. We are killing our steer this afternoon so that'll be fun in the rain!

ergoproxy said...

Amyranth said...

RW, according to the latest on the news he killed the roommate first, then the mom, and the two girls.

They found him dead beside the baby's crib.

And I think he used a knife, which explains why the cops were so stunned, aside from the "Holy shit, there's a whole family dead"

-A

Geez, A. Did he change his mind about killing the baby & kill himself instead?

Poor kid, though at least they wouldn't be old enough to have memories, but what an awful thing to have to be told when you're older, a real tragedy that doesn't just happen for no reason, must be something like a mental issue, or drugs.

Hey Mustard, hey Miss T, doing well.

Speaking of "mental illness", we've just seen a story on Headline News about a teacher/student brawl in a classroom in GA (Stone Mountain). The girl was in detention, and apparently she and the teacher had been "sniping" at each other all day. This was caught on a cell phone by another student.

Thanks again to the media for showing the South in a terrible light. This kind of thing doesn't always happen here, just to let the rest of the world know.

Hi J - RW, GS (together again! hey girls!)

Did we come apart? :\

Anonymous said...

Misstottenham, it is very hard for people to feel empathy for others when they have no concept of what true clinical depression appears as.

Everyone has the potential to suffer depression, but this is not an illness. Although I have never suffered the clinical form, I have had experience with someone who has. From what I saw, they could never escape the feelings of desolation. It's almost like they were locked in a vice. And their strange behavior in some way was their way of trying to escape it.

I hope one day in the future they will understand more about our brains, and how such a complex mechanism can falter. At the moment they do not know enough. And humans are never predictable.

ergoproxy said...

I think it is really irresponsible of the media to show film of things like that J I think we don't need to see things all the time,I just saw a plane crashed in honduras and a guy took pics they were showing, like the cockpit window and I mean the pilot died!!! and CNN was saying if you have pictures film etc of this upload it to us. I think it is tasteless for a start.

J

ergoproxy said...

plus I was going to add that it gets into that "15 mins" of fame mentality which in some people is not a good thing

MissTottenham said...

Nicely put anon. This area definitely needs more attention but it seems that sometimes people are more willing to push these problems under the carpet.

Mental illness is not a glamorous illness that celebs will campain about to get funding for.

It is even worse for the elderly and dementia sufferers. There are new drugs coming on the market for alzhiemers but the governement won't let people have them on the NHS. They say because they haven't been proven but they have. The real reason is beacuse they think people who suffer these illness are old and don't matter cos they'll be dead soon.

Original Punk J said...

One of the worst things, Ergo: the fight was only about a minute long, but they keep rerunning the tape. Makes it look like it was at least 5 minutes total. They've shown the tape about 80 billion times in the last 15 minutes.

Guess what? Nothing changed! Still the same footage!

We get it by now!

That bit about the plane crash is hideous. What about thinking of the pilot's family? Would they want to keep seeing that over and over? Gee thanks CNN, lovely compassion there.

Oh man, don't even get me started about Alzheimer's patients and drugs to help them. Not enough is done soon enough to help these poor people. Usually by the time they're diagnosed, it's too late to help.

J

gnothi seauton said...

A couple of weeks ago in Toronto a young woman was waiting at a bus shelter & some guy just came up to her and stabbed her in the stomach for no apparant reason. Luckily for her, there were other people at the bus stop to help her & she survived it.

It turned out the guy had done something like this before, but wasn't jailed for it as it was decided that he was mentally incapable to stand trial. So he was just let back out on the street, when he should at least have been given treatment. I'm happy to report that I don't get the flashes of light or other weird visuals. My boss starts to see separately out of both her eyes, then gets tunnel vision, just before a migraine hits her.

I don't want to be rude, but could we possibly turn this to something positive?....I still have some of my pay check left.

What games (as a kid) did you really like...I know some will have to reach further than others.

I LOVED hopscotch...I ruled.

It's Me, my sister and I made up a game called Bombs Away. It involved us running down the length of our long hallway into the living room, yelling "bombs away!" and flinging ourselves onto our dad, who was lying on the floor. It was the best game ever! And probably the reason why dad has had back problems for 35 years :S

resurrected wreck said...

I'm much better thank you, Mel :) Looking forward to the weekend!

What tat design are you wanting?

Anonymous said...

It's Me

No resurrect wreck, I am sure it was not the bombs away. Sounds like a lot of fun...I can not remember I game I played with my dad, but I do remember being the fastest on the block.

Eh, I chose rose buds, some black and some red, next to a sleeve I started. Then I thought an Angel in black and grey with three doves for my family members that have passed. One is on one arm, the other for another arm...if you get my drift..
I am so confused! Help.

Amyranth said...

Hallo Mel!

My cousin and I used to pretend we could see a family of skeletons, conveniently named "The Skeleton Family". We used to argue over who could hold the baby, and yes, the morbidity of it all was lost on us.

Also, the classic, The Floor is Made Of Lava!!

resurrected wreck said...

I also liked Murder In The Dark, which became Murder In The Forest when my friends and I became too loud & rowdy and were forbidden to continue playing it inside the house.

The inexhaustable creativity of children's ability to entertain themselves never fails to awe me!

amyranth -- I do not remember a whole lot of games that where in the family. I do not regret that...more baggage to carry. I sometimes wish I could go back to those days and change things.

Lava floor...sounds great!...climbing on the furniture and all. We used to do the "don't step on a crack or you will break your mother's back"...pretty tricky on some sidewalks.

Sometimes that is a good to be a kid again. Should never lose that ability.

Anonymous said...

Nope, never lose the ability to think like a child and play games. Too much fun.
A, I love Monty Python and they just had a marathon of them on BBC channel! I missed alot of it. Wonder why I am so messed up.That stuff scared me when I was a kid. They were twisted, but I love it.
I know, I am a sick puppy.

resurrected wreck said...

Did you guys have slumber parties?

Amyranth said...

The Floor is Made of Lava is an awesome game.

Adults can play too, but given the size difference between children and adults, you need a furniture store, as opposed to a living room.

No, I can not say that I had a slumber party. I had a friend stay the night.

My daughter had some good ones tho....kept the whole neighborhood up!

Amyranth said...

It's Me, my mother babysat my cousins until they were all old enough to go to school, so my younger cousin and I got to be brats together, as we were both only children.

She was the spoiled one though.

Do you think slumber parties are a female thing, or do boys have them too?

resurrected wreck said...

I don't think I ever hosted a slumber party, but I attended a good few.

Anonymous said...

Yep. Slumber parties. Friends told me they still remember my slumber parties. I forgot about them.10 girls sneaking out to toilet paper trees and screaming thru the streets at 2 am no less.

Anonymous said...

It's Me

Sorry amyranth do not know what it would be like to be the only children...I had sisters...

Amyranth said...

I've had some pretty wicked slumber parties, one where the heat shut off over night, and we were all snuggled up in the tiny living room we had and never noticed.

Also, we used to make prank phonecalls to guys we knew pretending to be the Spice Girls.

However, we had more slumber parties in the winter than in the summer. Summer was more "Walk around the city until you're dead tired and near someone's house".

That was when we were all older though, like 16-17.

resurrected wreck said...

Mel, I vividly remember a slumber party I attended when I was about 10 years old. The friend who hosted it lived in a secluded area by a lake. There was a shed close to the dock that we were all convinced was haunted. We all snuck out of the house at midnight & dared each other to step inside it. None of us did.

resurrected wreck -- I really think the slumber party is a girl thing...a shame I know.

Amyranth said...

I was equal for hosting and going.

Probably hosted one a year from junior high onward.

I wonder what boys do for fun as a group.

Perhaps it's best not knowing.

Anonymous said...

RW, that sounds cool. I like investigiating abandon houses and such.

Hi, It's Me...
Girls have more sleepover than boys do.They do have them though. They would make sure they told the girls so we could taunt them at their house and hang out on the porch for a while. Flirting was fun. At least thats what I recall.

Amyranth said...

*giggles*

Boys don't have slumber parties, they have video game nights.

I know my ex frequently had guys stay overnight when I wasn't around and no matter how I write this I know where your minds are going, and YES, I did worry that there was something he wasn't telling me :P

Wasn't there always "the haunted place" when you were growing up.

But the freedom you felt..."out sleeping" your parents and being able to do what you wanted to do....such a feeling.

Of course my mom seemed to quickly learn what we had done.

Hi mel!

I went to some slumber parties/night games things. we used to play murder in the dark, and lantern stalk adn a game where you made an obstacle course in teh room (pillows etc) andsomeone was picked to do it blindfolded while people yelled instructions, only thing was once they were blindfolded you took everything away, looked really funny
and just spinning under a broom then trying to jump over it is still a favourite

resurrected wreck said...

A, I'll bet they watched girl movies & cried ;)

You know, I have a wedding to do and the night before, we're having a slumber party at the hotel. Guess what we'll be laying! Thanks Ergo!

amy though you can only do it once it's hilarious!
another was when you told someone blindfolded they were going to jump off a table after you lifted them up but only put them like on a low stool

and a really cool thing to do, you need a partner is lie on your belly with arms out above your head and the person grabs your hands and holds you off the ground a bit with your eyes closed then slowly lowers you and your face touches first and as they lower your arms it feels like they are going down into the floor - it's really weird you must try it!

I found this description, anon:

Make enough slips of paper for 1 each.

On one write "murderer", on another write "detective", and on all of the rest write "suspect".
Give out the slips. You can not reveal to anyone what you are.

Someone counts to three and turns off the lights. (Be sure to play this in a room where no one will bump into any sharp things) and the game begins.

The murderer finds people and taps them on the shoulder. If you are tapped on the shoulder and are a suspect, simply fall to the ground, making a few dying noises. If you are tapped and you are the detective, you say "detective is dead". When the detective is killed, the lights go on. All dead suspects must pretend to be dead, and even the murderer himself can play dead.

The detective then surveys the "bodies" and accuses who they think is the murderer. If they guess wrong, the murderer has won, but if they guess right, the detective has won.

To make it easier for young detectives, people can call out "Murderer, murderer" when they are killed.

I played it slightly differently. There were no "suspects" or "detectives", only a murdered and victims. Only the murderer knew who she was.
