I don't remember exactly how I stumbled across this place. I don't even remember my first trip here. I do, however, remember my first anonymous post and how nervous I was.
I'm not afraid to say that these months have been the most rewarding months I've ever lived. I had nothing before I came here. I had no voice. I had no opinion. I safe-guarded myself and walked around half here, half not.
I had two friends. Two. Now I have none. One I told everything to while I was dealing with some really weird things that were happening in my head. I couldn't even tell her over the phone because I didn't want her to think I was crazy. I didn't want to have to verbalize my feelings. I told her through song lyrics and metaphorical language, things that I understood, but that she would never comprehend. "I hope you're okay, but let me tell you this..."
It was always left at that. I never actually came out and told her what I was feeling, because mostly I didn't want it to get back to my parents and family and my other friend. They would never have understood. They would never have understood how I dealt with it, because after all, it was just meaningless notation. It was just some sleezy rock boys who drank shit down and snorted shit up. They would never get it. They would never get me or what I was going through.
The other friend I lost to a boy. I now know where I sit with her, and it's now just a decade of my life wasted. I never told her anything, not because I couldn't, but because I knew she would say, "I didn't think anything was wrong." And I would smile and walk away because my effort would be futile.
So, that brought me here. "Mayonaise" brought me over fifty friends who understand, who make me think, who force me to be myself, who listen to me, who care. This place brought me an outlet to reach out to people in hopes that I can help them and repay some things that I have gained elsewhere. "Mayonaise" has helped to bridge lots of gaps in my head and in my heart. Things that are said here helps to make sense of a lot of questions I have and that none of the people in my life could answer or understand. This place has made me fight. Not others, but myself.
This place is a double-edged sword. When it goes, part of me goes with it. I've given bits and pieces of my heart and soul to everyone here, to Mayo, to SS, to Anons, both good and bad.
But, I couldn't do that to the people in my life.
I don't know how I ended up here. I'm not going to question the powers that be. I know that for one reason or another, I was meant to find this place, and I wouldn't trade it for the world.
Mayo, no matter who you are, your gracious hospitality will never be forgotten. I hope that what it is that you've learned remains with you forever. But, mostly I hope that you see just how much you've changed others.
